😎You don't need to removed the mounting ring from the motor!! It's very difficult to get it back on again. Although the mount you removed looks like one piece, it is in fact two.The outer flange detaches when you use a small screwdriver to lift the little tangs that hold it on. There are little rectangular slots around the flange which allow you to get the screwdriver in with no difficulty. For anyone who's struggling with getting the glass back on and is disinclined to break it: on reassembly with new glass (and a replacement mounting flange) I couldn't get the glass to click onto the mounting clips, even with lubrication, so I removed the flange and attached it to the glass unit. With a bit of washing up liquid for lubrication and a bit of pressure and gentle rocking the glass and flange attached to the motor ring with no difficulty, first attempt.
Thank you for these instructions. Just did this on my D2 and it helped tremendously, especially about spraying something back there to unfreeze the connections.
