    Marcos guitar and the way he's using feedback throughout parts is brilliant!!

    I remember reading that Adam Ant met with a tribal leader, I don't recall specifics, but he was given their blessing to wear the white face stripe. 😊

    The Kings album is my favourite album of the 80s. And I love a lot of 80s music being 56 now.

    King's still sounds great after all these years...much respect to Adam.

    Oh yes I was an Ant fan (still am) such a great time when Ant music was all the rage :) I remember going to a fancy dress party back as a youngish teenager in my punk jacket and ripped jeans with the iconic white stripe over the nose and I felt so cool haha!

    Possibly the hardest music ever loved by little girls

    Adam and the Ants and Kim Wilde were my first two true musical infatuation. I still love that album and do still listen to it now and then. It feels like it have really stood the test of time, unlike a lot of the more popular music from that time. It still sounds good.

      Thanks alfaDude. I absolutely adored Kim Wilde from about the age of 10. 'Kids in America' is still a banging tune.
      Cheers, Jon.

    Hi Jon, love the way you've put this song into context and the band too. Nice to know there are other Ant fans out there! (Yes, I have the vinyl too). For drumming, you can't beat Dog Eat Dog.

    Absolutely love Adam And The Ants and have done since I was a kid! I have a big memorabilia collection and there is never a point where Adam is not on my playlist. What I like about Adam is that he is not one for standing still! He is not just going to give you the same album everytime. He is a great experimenter but in doing so he still retains that underlying Ant sound that we know and love! A very underrated band in my opinion and much stronger than some of the acts riding the New Wave scene. I love the arrangement of the songs with some Link Wray/Duane Eddy guitar links thrown in! A stand out band that I wish had done more albums. Long live The Ants 🤘

      Hey Jack. Thanks for the comment. Stick around, as we have just done another Adam & the Ants reaction that should drop in a couple of weeks. Slowly but surely, I'm going to turn Andy into an Antfan!
      Cheers, Jon.

    Kings of the Wild Frontier is still an amazing album. There is an Old Grey Whistle Test session of them playing Killer in the Home and Ant Invasion somewhere on TH-cam which was amazing.
    I saw them on the Prince Charming Revue tour, and they were astonishing - but there were so many teenage girls there I suspected I might be in the wrong place. With hindsight, as a twelve year old, it was probably the wrong time.

      Ha! Nice one Mark. I know the OGWT clips you're talking about very well. Yes, they are amazing.

    Please do Björk! 😁 If you want a certain album, I'd say either Vespertine or Homogenic :)

    Miss Thing is on my top ten songs of all time (I've never heard a really good recording of it, though) - Anger Inc., Room At The Top and Vive Le Rock are high up but not top ten, maybe top fifty; No Zap, Apollo 9, Mohair Locker Room Pinup Boys, Christian D'or, Beat My Guest, Goody Two Shoes are top 100. Everything else, with few exceptions, is in the top 500.

    I never really got Adam and Ants dating back to The Dirk Wears White Socks album. Of course by the time that Prince Charming came out I was pointing out to everyone that I alway thought they weren’t up to much, in that way that smart arses do.

    • @theaudiophiles7889
      @theaudiophiles7889  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Skolex. Fair enough, but the good news is you've come to the right place if you ever change your mind! Or even if you don't.
      Cheers, Jon.

    IMHO Kings is the Dark Side of The Moon for the 80s. UK has a better track listing but the US is also amazing with the 2 extra tracks

    Just realized his shtick combines colonialist fashion with tribal warrior sensibilities. Trying to have it both ways lol makes sense

    Can’t say I was an Ant fan at the time of his popularity (perhaps I was to old, they appealed more to teenagers), but I did like some of his later solo stuff ( the album Wonderful is pretty decent). I think he got better as a result of not being weighed down by all the baggage of being a big pop star.

  • @mattjohn4731
    @mattjohn4731 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just realized this song sounds a bit gothic. When you mentioned the guitar, it struck me as gothic. Along with those grunts they do, as a group. Bauhaus and Samhain did that stuff and it's spooky.

    Yup, I bought the album when it came out (but haven't played it for years).
    Fun fact: in 1983, Adam Ant sued for infringement of the copyright in his makeup. The Master of the Rolls must have had a sense of humour, because he awarded the case to the most reactionary judge in the Chancery Division. The judgment must be the funniest I ever read: His Lordship was not amused by a man who painted himself like a "Hottentot", and said so at considerable length. (AA lost the case, on sound legal grounds.)
    Adamant is a popular material for making fantasy weapons and armour, and also another name for diamond.
    Jon overlooked one of the biggest 70s glam bands: Slade (who he might not want to play on this channel). The fun fact is that they were managed by Chas Chandler, who had played bass in the original incarnation of The Animals and later brought Jimi Hendrix to UK - a handy musical career.

    • @theaudiophiles7889
      @theaudiophiles7889  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a fan of Slade, not a hater either. Probably need a decent track recommended...
      Cheers, Jon.

      @@theaudiophiles7889 They were of their time (though I've always wanted one of Noddy Hiolder's mirror hats); non-demanding stuff; I'll leave recs up to someone else.

    Not to be THAT GUY, but the music is super loud, and talking is super quiet. Adam Ant is the best!

    I'm a massive AATA fan but the truth is, this song was plagiarized from a African band. All the chanting is nearly identical as are the drum rhythms.
    Here's the track in question from 1968
    th-cam.com/video/pVsq-9XUnNQ/w-d-xo.html

    • @theaudiophiles7889
      @theaudiophiles7889  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Wretch, thanks for your comment. This is an awesome piece of music.
      Interestingly AATA took their inspiration from a prior appropriation of the track. Malcolm McLaren, when he was their manager, gave the band a mix tape which included a minor chart hit from 1971, 'Burundi Black' by Mike Steïphenson: th-cam.com/video/iH9rcSDyuCo/w-d-xo.html
      I'm glad that this music was brought to a wider audience - and then it really kicked off with WOMAD - but you're right that the original source should have been recognised and credited.
      Cheers, Jon.

    "Down below those dandy clothes, you're just a shade too white". Every
    thing about this song is brilliant but Adam and the Ants is regarded as a joke. Too bad.
