There are theories that the Darklyns were promised a pardon from Tywin or even Blackfyre support since Lady Serala was from Myr-the same city Aerys would later recruit Varys from. Otherwise I don’t know how they thought arresting the King and murdering a Kingsguard was going to end in anything but their doom with Tywin as hand and a healthy heir safe in case Aerys II perished. They were a very faithful house that could have been rewarded more (they had more members in the Kingsguard than any other house) but it’s unclear how that resentment could have led to such stupidity without some hope of escape.
Not sure I buy the theory but the Darklyns having a lot of members in the KG has got to be 30% skill 70% proximity to the King in my opinion. They had good prestige only to throw it away, so its their own fault. Either way, House Rykker is having a good time with Kingslanding being ruled by the crazy Cersei lol.
Well the theory is that they really just wanted to get rid of Aerys so Rhaegar can finally take his place but I doubt he'd allow the pardon of those who killed his father. Maybe the Darklyns were offered a plan to smuggle them to Essos after it's all over?
@@nunyabiznes33 They were dead no matter the outcome. They kill King Aerys, Tywin assaults the castle. Really was a dumb move. There is no way they survive this. IF by some mercy they do, they still lose everything.
@@nunyabiznes33 yes that theory is that whatever promise Tywin made them he never had any intention of keeping. He would have just had the Darklyns who knew about his offer executed after the fact. I think his idea was for the king to die as Tywin stormed the Dun Fort once he had waited long enough to justify an assault. Barristan screwed that all up.
Didn't Driftmark eventually also lost most of its business to King's Landing? The Velaryons seem pretty poor by the start of the main series. Also, have you done the extinct Justman? It's amazing that the Riverlands was a unified entity only once in its history.
My take is House Velaryon was never quite the same after the dance. The fact Hull and Spice town were never fully rebuilt says a lot. Alyn did okay but after the dance they slowly declined to the point we see them at during the main books, the downfall of House Targaryen certainly made it worse. I've not covered Justman yet but it is in the works
Where can I get this detailed map with all the fortresses marked in hd ? I took a SS but it’s not clear. It would be much easier to read the novel with this map. Please help

Velaryons probably lost a lot after Roberts’s Rebellion, a Velaryon was the mad king’s master of ships
