How To: Work a Gusset Heel (2aat)

  • เผยแพร่เมื่อ 5 เม.ย. 2018
  • This tutorial video focuses on the multitude of steps required to work a 2aat gusset heel from the creation of the heel flaps through to the picking up of sts to work in the round again.
    The socks being knit in this video are from the Conchoidal Sock MKAL hosted by The Unapologetic Knitter from March 23rd to April 20th, 2018 in the Unapologetic Knitter Ravelry group: www.ravelry.co...
    Once this MKAL is complete, the pattern Conchoidal Sock pattern will be available for individual purchase through Ravelry and will be published as a 1aat sock pattern.
    I recommend pausing this video frequently to read through your own instructions for your heel flaps to get the most out of the steps. I realize it is very long and doesn't show every step in its entirety. I have done my best to accurately show each step needed to complete 2aat heel flaps within the time constraints (15 min max) of my TH-cam account.

    Wow, thank you! You really got me out a pickle. There are dozens of videos about 2aat socks to get started, but I could only find yours about how to get around the heals. I had tried it on my own and was thoroughly lost and confused. I had ripped out to the beginning of the flap, got confused after trying the flap again. You have really helped!

    Thank you so very much! I love doing 2aat socks but could never get the Heal and Gusset correct. Now I know the secret is to work on the second sock first for the Gusset!!! What a life saver. Thanks again

    This is exactly what I needed! I've been stymied by the process for working the heel flap and gusset on socks made 2aat

    I did it!! I have to admit - I love the look of a short row or afterthought heel, I just think they look nicer. AND I could do them 2 at a time, so I did it that way for years. I've come to accept that I love the FIT of a heel flap better, but I just couldn't figure out the 2 at a time thing, so I started making them one at a time - and honestly, that blows. hahaha . THANK YOU FOR THIS! So clear, so easy to follow along, thank you for sharing! I am a 2 at a time heel flap girl now!

    You have really helped me with the technique of combining both socks and systematically picking up the stitches from both gussets. I have spent too much time trying to work it on my own!

    Very helpful information on how to do 2 at a time. But I just don't understand how to pick up the stitches for sock no 1 after sock 2 is done. Can you please help me?

    Wow!
    I got a little lost at the last part (the last part in moving from sock two back to sock one...getting yarn in the right place...do you just jump to sock one, or do you turn the needles in a new direction?)...
    but think this will have me able to do 2aat socks.
    My first attempt a few weeks back had me going to dpns upon the heel areas. Would love to master this.
    Your voice is so gentle and easy to follow.
    Thank you.

    I’m so glad for this video, but can you explain to me who you switched the alignment of the socks before the heel turn and after? I feel stupid that I can’t think of how you did that. I’m working on your vanilla socks currently and I’m having a hard time keeping it all straight now trying 2 at a time.

      @@TheUnapologeticKnitter Thank you I just downloaded your pattern. Now I have one other question. Do you or will you have a how to actually see how to pick up the sets for the first sock working it 2 at a time?

    • @TheUnapologeticKnitter
      @TheUnapologeticKnitter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@merylblount6832 I have another video on how to work a gusset heel that shows the steps of picking up the actual stitches: th-cam.com/video/qgyHmwtLvqQ/w-d-xo.html. This is for 1aat but the same theory applies.

  • @mimihealy5046

    I’m knitting your Romantical pattern. It looks in the demo that when you say “pick up and knit” that you are just picking up, not knitting after the pick up. Is this correct?

    • @TheUnapologeticKnitter
      @TheUnapologeticKnitter  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mimi - the stitches do get "knit" in sense. You will insert your needle under the legs of the edge of the heel flap stitch (that's the pick up) and then you will wrap the working yarn around the needle before pulling it through the fabric to create the new stitch on your needle (that's the "and knit" part). I hope that helps!
