    Lifelong Broncos fan here.
The best thing about last season was Greg Penner, effectively the managing partner of the ownership group, stepping to the fore and taking control of the team. I was worried when the Walmarts (as I used to call them) bought the team that they would be distant owners and hand control over to whoever. That Penner started making statements to the media and to the fans assuring us that they would be doing everything in their power to improve the team and then followed through with hiring the best head coach available gives me a lot of confidence for the future, both with Wilson as QB and beyond.

I will say that Baron Browning has shown insane potential, actually has a Von Miller esc get off, I wanna see him put on a little weight so he can use more speed to power moves, he's got great bend but you cant rely on it all the time. Drew Sanders and Baron Browning in a Micah Parsons esc role would be perfect for them both

At that point, as a Broncos fan, I'd consider a playoff birth a successful season. A winning season would be good, but playoffs would be great. Even if they go one and done in the wildcard vs. one of the top AFC contenders, KC, Buffalo, or Cincinnati, I'd be content with that. I'm not expecting them to win it all or even make a deep playoff run. It's been such a rough last 7 seasons that I'm just desperate for any kind of success at this point. Sean Payton was a good hire. Now it's up to Russ to prove he's still got it.

That defense looks even better than those number when you consider an offense that bad doesn't stay on the field and the defense got very little rest. It isn't common for a defense who has to play that much to not fall out of the top 10, they just get gassed.

I think it's really cool that Davis Webb got hired so soon. I've always been perplexed why the NFl thinks that you have to be approaching nursing home age to coach a football team. Get some 35 year Olds in there, they may just do things differently and succeed. But everyone in the nfl is more afraid of failing than anything else.

I’m very appreciative of what you guys do, I love the thought process and research you guys do in everyone and everything. I was introduced to you guys by the NFLSE guys, I loved that draft. I love your work. I love that you love Marvin Mims. I however would like to push back on the idea that Mims replaces Jerry Jeudy. In an ideal scenario, Marvins Mims replaces one of Tim Patrick or Courtland Sutton. While Jerry Jeudy has yet to become the #1 receiver we know he was projected to be when he got drafted and Marvin Mims is closer to his stature than he is of a Sutton or Patrick, Marvin Mims succeeded at more 50/50 balls in college than you’d imagine a 5’10”-5’11” receiver should be pulling down. Courtland Sutton’s game at SMU and early on as a Bronco were the 50/50 balls. I would rather pay Marvin Mims whatever 63rd overall money is for 4 years than pay Courtland Sutton 15 million dollars for 873 yards. I’ll pay Jerry Jeudy whatever he wants to eclipse 1000,1200, in my fantasy land 1400-1500 yards. Jeudy is a route runner with some speed, yes Mims absolutely does more, but Jerry Jeudy is always, always open, literally every play. If Russ will be able to find him more because Payton can also scheme these guys open, Mims and Jeudy should be rivaling some of the top receivers. My ideal scenario is Mims allows the Broncos to trade Courtland Sutton by mid season. Court can go to the Packers and help Jordan Love or something.

From what I've seen, Broncos fans are divided. Some think Russ is washed and there's no hope. Others, as you concluded and as I believe, are cautiously optimistic that we'll see winning football again. I was waiting for your breakdown of last year to see from an objective perspective how bad the offense was and how good the defense was. I believe the Broncos lost 8 games by one score last year. If we had won just have of those, the team is a 9 win team. I have to believe that Sean Payton is good for four more scores over the course of the season. So if the defense doesn't regress, I can easily see a 9 or 10 win season. I'd love to say we'll have the number one offense, as so many of Payton's Saints teams had. But first year, especially after last year's hopes were dashed so irrevocably, I'll say some growing pains will keep the Broncos from contending for the division, though I think we'll take a game from KC this year.

Ever seen th-cam.com/video/9n_VEYQOGbE/w-d-xo.html It's a phenomenal insight into what was likely wrong with Wilson. If correct, then the problem persists. People not only cling to mindsets, they do so subconsciously. Many would rather die than abandon them.
You can't coach that away. People do not abandon mindsets. They have to find another one to shift onto before they will let the old one go.

You guys were talking about Riley Moss’s long speed or lack there of. He ran a 4.45. Sauce Gardner ran a 4.41. That’s not much different. In fact I know of a lot of starting CBs in the NFL right now that run the 40 slower than Riley Moss. 4.45 is a respectable time. 4.56 would be my upper limit for a starting CB. Yes the faster the better but there are only a very few like Tariq Woolen or Bengals CB DJ Turner. Those guys are exceptionally fast. Moss is fast enough to play CB.

    • @t4d0W

Payton will def figure something out. Sorta like how the Waldron got the Seahawks pass attack to have coverages choose to stop them REALLY close at the LoS or going REAL deep. But not too many shots at the intermediate part of the field. Though JSN's presence could very well change that. Coming back to Payton and Russ, we could see more shotgun looks out of Russ and setting up part of the run game from there. I do agree that for Payton to help Russ evolve, Broncos need to have a really diversified run attack. And flex the receiver threat that the Broncos have on 12 personnel.
