Me too, I hate killing them and unfortunately sometimes my phobia gets the better of me, but definitely jumping spiders have helped me with arachnophobia.

I have labelled 2019 "The Year of Fear" and I have taken small steps to overcoming my fear of spiders. Thank you for this video, it helps to learn about spiders in order to desensitize myself and detach from the irrational fear I have.
I encourage you to check out some videos of people having spiders as pets. Maybe go outside and look for a spider, then just watch it from a distance. Probably better to look at one in it's web, because they probably won't move around too much. Identifying what kinds of spider live near you might be fun, educational and help you out with your fear! Good luck!
What I did to help my severe irrational fear of bees and wasps was I started photographing them. Nothing fancy, just a digital camera and now mostly my cell phone. I started out far away but I'd then be able to be close to them and not bothering them and they didn't bother me. Also, looking through a lens helped as a sort of "barrier" like watching it on TV which I *know* is safe and can't hurt me. I found myself enjoying their little quirks, movements, and interactions. And as they went about their tiny short little lives running their little bee or wasp errands I found myself feeling less and less paralyzed with fear and they were surprisingly *entertaining!* Don't get me wrong, I've been doing this process for about 15+ years and I still get a little shiver if one gets too near my ears (the buzz noise) but I am no longer having meltdowns or anxiety over them at all. I hope this helps!💜
When I was little, I had a love for spiders. I drew pictures of them every week, and even held a few. The weird thing was that if I didn't expect a spider to crawl or jump on me, I would utterly freak out. I knew I had nothing to be afraid of, but it was a common response of mine. I wonder if that the main reason people fear spiders is because it is hard wired into our system, almost an instinct.
It must be instinct. I freak out when I see spiders and even though I try I can't stand being near them and even watching this video makes me feel restless. Something similar happens to a friend of mine, but with snakes.
They're also one of the most intelligent insects. They'll play follow the finger, and if you stop, they'll take the lead and try to get you to follow them. I've seen pairs playing leap frog( possible mating dance ?). They will sometimes accept hand feedings too.
I used to have 2 as buddies in my room... 2 weeks ago they disappeared and a few days later I made acquaintance with a giant Huntsman on my ceiling. I'm afraid my buddies got eaten :(
Same! When that cutie jumped at the camera I was just like awwweeee how cute and laughed like an idiot infront of everyone in the bus. The probably thought I was looking at puppies or something but nope here I am watching spider videos!
"They kill cockroaches" -- If that isn't a good enough selling point to not kill them, then nothing is. I have a few spiders at my place and I don't even bat an eyelash at them knowing they purge the other bugs out there.
As someone with arachnophobia, i tend to just leave them alone and try not to think about them. More than anything, i'm normally just concerned about whether or not they're brown recluses (I don't really worry too much about Black Widows, they don't come into our home and i'm usually not out in the back yard). Also, i live in Oklahoma, so i do have a reason to be wary of fiddlebacks.
Daddy Long Legs I try to keep a family of them in my room. They eat other more dangerous spiders and keep away pesky bugs Yes they're cellar spiders. But they mostly live in our garage.

"If spiders were the size of cats, would they be less scary or more scary? On the one hand, they wouldn’t get into your house as easily. But on the other hand, once they’re in there, ohhhhhh boy. Oh boy." -Channing Tatum On spiders
They'd be more scary because they'd have more venom, meaning that more species would be likely to be venomous. The worst thing that could ever happen is if spiders were bigger, because even if their venom isn't that potent in small amounts, giving them a larger amount of poison would increase the chance of death.
@@four-en-tee spiders and many insects have evolved into venom and poison to compensate for their size, a cat sized spiser would most likely not be venomous. Look at snakes, the 25ft Long behemoths are not poisionous, but strangle and overpower prey, while the smaller snakes have venom.

I love spiders, I work with spiders. But still if I encounter anything in the dark when I'm not expecting it I always freak out. One time I was on a night walk with my family and ran into a small twig hanging in front of me, and lost my shit
I ran into a spiderweb one time and did that instinctive, "jump around slapping shit off your body routine," and slapped the shit out of the tip of my dick. I was so pissed off at spiders for the rest of the day.
I actually used to have a spider in my bed room At first I thought, “he is not the first one I’m just gonna kill it once he comes out of the corner.” but then I noticed that he never did, He stayed in that corner. The next day, I noticed that he made a web. And if I got close, he hides behind the closet. I used to look at the corner every couple hours and he was always there chilling and then after a while, he goes behind the closet. After couple days, I was able to get very close to his web and he wouldn’t go behind the closet, Sometimes I pass right by him and both of us wouldn’t even care. He knew his space and I knew mine. I used to speak to him about my day. He was a good listener. Several months have passed And he no longer shows himself. I assumed he died. But then he started coming out again. I still think it was his child, it had to be. I am not sure entirely but he looked a bit smaller than before. But he and the old spider shared the same style of living in my room so maybe they were in fact just one spider. But I gave it a new name anyways. The scariest moment was when I came one day and the spider looked huge. I decided to carefully take a closer look. The I discovered that it was actually two spiders fighting. I started getting worried, I thought “ if my roommate loses I would probably find out about it the hard way when the other spider leaves the web and hides some where else in the room planning for his next attack with my name on the top of his target list” The next day, the first thing I did after I woke up was turning my head towards the corner. I slowly got close to the web, and I saw a cocoon, next to it was a spider. I wasn’t sure but I thought he was my spider. I mean he was there, he didn’t disappear or flee when I was getting close to the web. And the one inside the cocoon was the intruder. I was relieved. unfortunately, several weeks after that, he stopped showing up. Until one day I saw a spider next the web, I was shocked. “After all this time, is how you want it to end?!, by me?!” With little bit of disbelief I grabbed a broom and went for it but Before I strike him I realized.... he was already dead “What was it?!, was it hunger?!, or perhaps it was simply his time. Did he knew?!, and If he did know, then why leaving the web?!. Is it possible that he wanted to see the blue sky one last time before he dies?!. Or maybe see it for the first time and see if it is really like how his mom/ dad described it to him. (That is if we assumed that the first spider actually died during the first disappearance.), What if this dead spider just another outsider how died before he gets to the web?!” There is no telling on how those spiders used to think, but there is one thing I am certain of now and that is the fact that they do think.
cocoon=egg sac? if it looks fluffy like a cotton ball, it's eggs... wrestling/female eating mated male is a common spider habit, then she lays her eggs, then she dies, then you get 300 spider babies!

See, just because something doesn't WANT to hurt you, doesn't mean it won't. Same thing goes with venomous snakes. A majority, if you know snake behavior, are pretty unwilling to bite, but that doesn't mean that you should pick one up, or get in its personal space.
Spiders are welcome at my place too, mostly just orb weavers and cellar spiders and they catch a ton of flies and mosquitoes. Also the occasional jumping spider, I don't see him anymore but I had one living on the lamp stand next to my computer for a couple weeks.

I can't believe there are people out there that didn't like this video. I grew up with a fear of spiders but around 15 years ago I started getting over it. I have many different spiders around my yard ranging from Huntsmans through to things like Red Backes, Black House spiders, and Garden Orb spiders. I have been watching them closely now for over ten years and I have seen some amazing things with them. They all have their own character and personality and they are a hell of a lot smarter than you think. I have gained the trust of a couple of the Garden Orb spiders in my yard over the years and they will come over to me when I go out to talk to them and will hop off their webs and get on my hand. They are so interested in us and the fact that they will even get on my hand speaks volumes to me. I have also relocated a Red Back spider by hand without it biting me, but in saying that I have been bitten by a Red Back spider when one got into my shorts while I was sitting on a chare and the bite is like a really bad jock rash and really burns but I never got any other side effects until the night after around 24 hours later and it was like I had been hit by a car and every mussel in my body was aking. I took a couple of painkillers and slept it off. I was fine the next day.

I appreciate your honesty, and your self-awareness. It's pretty cool that even though you fear spiders, you don't let that make you hate them. That's pretty cool in my book.
Exactly. Mosquito population is virtually negligible in my household because of these critters. In a tropical country where dengue and malaria is prevalent, they are more than welcome in our houses, same goes with dragonflies(very dedicated mosquito killers from every stage of their life).
@@greedfox7842 They do. @@DamoM8-1 I think that's a thing we develop by seeing other people freaking out about them. When I was a kid they called me spider man and I always had a lil audience setting them on my face catching them or setting it on their hands. Now I'm just as much of a pussy myself for some reason. I think we hype up each other's fear of them. A general respect and caution is evolutionary I'd say
I’m extremely scared of spiders but it’s irrational as none here are venomous to the degree of damaging humans. I never kill them, I have a friend/family member safely place them outside. Giant house spiders make me cry but I still don’t wanna hurt the poor guy
@@anieee96 I know from experience that giant house spiders are very tame and calm if you don't make them feel in danger by squishing them or something. As a kid I had them on me all day and I never got bit unintentionally even once. They don't see you as prey but more like an obstacle to walk on. I did make em bite me back then for the off chance of becoming spider man. No success so far
They want to kill off all humans, take over the world and build giant insect and other food source farms. Then cover the whole globe with interlocking webs. Be afraid of Big Spider and their form of the Illuminati!
This makes me want to look at loads of spiders, but I want to look at more spiders specifically in this neutral photography/cinematography style. I know that most spider-related media is deliberately overblown in horror, and I don't think viewing them that way is fair. I find when I try to remove the imposed fear as he says, and just observe them as another creature, they're fascinating to look at and learn about. Still... difficult to look at, sometimes, but his comments about how beneficial they are to have around and that they are symbols of nature really helps to squash that difficulty. I think this video has changed my perspective on a subconscious level either way, because the spider with spiderlings on its back would usually terrify me enough to close the video, but I just looked at it with interest and even a slight admiration of a mother spider being so caring for her spiderlings, whether that's instinctual or not. Glad I found this video.
I wish more media would portray them in a positive light, like it does with cat and dog heroes in movies. The best I've seen to represent our eight-legged friends so far is Charlotte from Charlotte's Web, and Webbed, a short funny videogame about cute spiders. There's also the Lucas the Spider TH-cam channel.
I have about 30 tarantulas and 2 black widows. With everything I've learned and looked up, I found this to be possibly the most condensed and informative videos by a wide berth. I can't thank this man enough.
Absolutely loved watching this. I’ve always loved the little guys but with a fearful respect as well. You’ve taken the fear out of the equation for me and I thank you! Now if I could only get my cats to feel the same way.
I think the biggest thing that makes people so afraid of them is the "spooky" factor of the way they look. I used to be absolutely terrified of them growing up, but once I took time to capture and release spiders that appeared in my homes, I took the time to watch them interact with me and other objeect and observed them without disturbing and it came to a point where they just became fascinating to me. Sometimes all it takes is just sitting back and looking at things from a different perspective to really change everything.
Your soothing voice and reassurance is like a caring and loving father calming me down and actually making me appreciate and love spiders even more!! Thanks for this educational video!! 💙💙💙💙💙💙🏆

We see spider or other crawlies ugly, but they see the opposite amongst themselves just as we humans see among ourselves. So who knows if they see humans as some giant ugly piece of shit from their view, or they just don't care at all. They have their own lives to be concerned about and of equal value as us
I love jumping spiders so adorable. I used to be aracnophobic but learning about them has cured me somewhat.
Me too, I hate killing them and unfortunately sometimes my phobia gets the better of me, but definitely jumping spiders have helped me with arachnophobia.
Its really the fact that they look like mini monsters scare me

I have labelled 2019 "The Year of Fear" and I have taken small steps to overcoming my fear of spiders.
Thank you for this video, it helps to learn about spiders in order to desensitize myself and detach from the irrational fear I have.
I encourage you to check out some videos of people having spiders as pets.
Maybe go outside and look for a spider, then just watch it from a distance. Probably better to look at one in it's web, because they probably won't move around too much.
Identifying what kinds of spider live near you might be fun, educational and help you out with your fear!
Good luck!
you labelled your year - this reminds me of a podcast I listen, perhaps you know it - Cortex? One of they topics they discuss is yearly themes.
I made a fake spider out of blackened pipe cleaners, and hung it on the wall as if crawling next to my desk. It helped.
Irrational or not, learning about spiders has not made me any more accepting of them.
Hmm...

Jumping spiders are almost unbelievably adorable. Everything down to how they move is stupid cute to me.
Hey, Folks! I agree
They're cute, but too twitchy and unpredictable... Like they're on meth.
They're also one of the most intelligent insects. They'll play follow the finger, and if you stop, they'll take the lead and try to get you to follow them. I've seen pairs playing leap frog( possible mating dance ?). They will sometimes accept hand feedings too.

"If spiders were the size of cats, would they be less scary or more scary? On the one hand, they wouldn’t get into your house as easily. But on the other hand, once they’re in there, ohhhhhh boy. Oh boy."
-Channing Tatum
On spiders
In this scenario would the spider do cat shit like sleeping on your laptop and deliberately knocking everything off your kitchen counter?
If they were that size would they consider us prey now?
They'd be more scary because they'd have more venom, meaning that more species would be likely to be venomous. The worst thing that could ever happen is if spiders were bigger, because even if their venom isn't that potent in small amounts, giving them a larger amount of poison would increase the chance of death.
@@four-en-tee spiders and many insects have evolved into venom and poison to compensate for their size, a cat sized spiser would most likely not be venomous. Look at snakes, the 25ft Long behemoths are not poisionous, but strangle and overpower prey, while the smaller snakes have venom.
More, they would likely eat larger animals therefore there's higher risk that their venom might hurt us.

I ran into a spiderweb one time and did that instinctive, "jump around slapping shit off your body routine," and slapped the shit out of the tip of my dick. I was so pissed off at spiders for the rest of the day.
I actually used to have a spider in my bed room
At first I thought, “he is not the first one I’m just gonna kill it once he comes out of the corner.”
but then I noticed that he never did,
He stayed in that corner.
I started getting worried, I thought “ if my roommate loses I would probably find out about it the hard way when the other spider leaves the web and hides some where else in the room planning for his next attack with my name on the top of his target list”
The next day, the first thing I did after I woke up was turning my head towards the corner.
“After all this time, is how you want it to end?!, by me?!”
With little bit of disbelief I grabbed a broom and went for it but Before I strike him I realized....
he was already dead
“What was it?!, was it hunger?!, or perhaps it was simply his time. Did he knew?!, and If he did know, then why leaving the web?!. Is it possible that he wanted to see the blue sky one last time before he dies?!. Or maybe see it for the first time and see if it is really like how his mom/ dad described it to him. (That is if we assumed that the first spider actually died during the first disappearance.),
What if this dead spider just another outsider how died before he gets to the web?!”
There is no telling on how those spiders used to think, but there is one thing I am certain of now and that is the fact that they do think.

There's an old saying my grandmother used to say, if you find a spare change lying around your home it's spiders paying their rent.
Spider: All eight legs occupied, grounds a bit shaky, must pinch.
commence hydraulic pinching stabilisation maneuver
I never kill spiders. And the one that lives in my car wing mirror I actually consider a friend. I named him Pete.
R/blessed comments. i Just made that up
Boris( I know not original) & I got along quite well( brown ,white ,gold ) lived in my kitchen hanging out by the window. When I moved he came with me lasted 3 months at the new place, nice chap wouldn't hurt a fly.🤣😅🤔
That's weird. There was one in the corner under my bed, that I also called Pete...or was it Greg?...
I used to have a spider living in the boot door of my car I think he moved away
We named our mirror spider harry the house spider (in the dutch translation of the name)
Other insects: *fast, sporadic movements*
Spiders: *attacks insects*
Humans: *slow methodical movements*
Spiders: *yo, you're cool...lemme hang out on your hand*
Also humans: *burns house down because spider was on them*
Spiders: *but why????*
Because we have evolved to have an ingrained fear of them.
I'm arachnaphobic but I'm not about to burn down the house

I think that's a thing we develop by seeing other people freaking out about them.
That honestly was the most beautiful video on spiders I have seen in a long time.
This actually helped me to understand that spiders dont wanna harm us,this was a nice video
They want to kill off all humans, take over the world and build giant insect and other food source farms. Then cover the whole globe with interlocking webs. Be afraid of Big Spider and their form of the Illuminati!
@@kirkmorrison6131 That does sound terrifying, doesn't it? Funny though, if you think about it, that's exactly what humans have done.
Is no one gonna talk about how this video about spiders, made 2 years ago is suddenly getting recommended to everyone?
Apple Muffin welcome to TH-cam
Some sensible people have seen it and promoted it.
I dont even know why it was recommended to me.. I have NEVER looked up spiders for any reason... I do like them though so, its odd...
@@eclecticcerebro8287 it must have been Hagrid that recommended it.
@@chrisknight6884 lmao.. Yea.. Then ge can take that big azz spider before i send harry after his azz
*Humans looking at Humans*
What we see: Other humans
*Spiders looking at Humans*
What spiders see: Colossal Titans
Spiders out here living in attack on titan
Spider: *starts watching Attack on Titan*
Human: "Why do I hear boss music?"
Imagine, The Levi Ackerman, that will arise out of the spider group. Yikes.
@@DM-bv9uh Well we don't know if Levi could actually take down a Colossal Titan. Those things will literally steam you alive lol.
Thats badass im a titan
Absolutely loved watching this.
I’ve always loved the little guys but with a fearful respect as well.
You’ve taken the fear out of the equation for me and I thank you!
Now if I could only get my cats to feel the same way.
Me: oh so spiders are chilled
Spider: sup buddy
Me: dies
