You're informative and relatable, and I think you'll help more as we go. (I just bought a racing rig to go w/G290 and I LOVE IT ) So on that note, let's go driving 🚗

    Great video with excellent points made. I had triples years ago, once I tried VR, it was hard to go back to triples, the depth of field in VR is so much better, much easier to judge distance so I can brake later and get back on the gas sooner. As for eyes getting tired, the biggest problem people have in VR is they forget to blink occasionally to moisten the surface of the eye thus getting dry eye. And now with less expensive VR headsets (Oculus Quest-2 with link cable) VR can be a good less expensive alternative to triples. The only problem with VR.... most racing titles are not very well optimized for VR. ACC is a pig in VR, and other titles require reducing the eye candy considerably, best one for VR I think is AC. People that seem to knock VR a lot are often people who have never tried racing in VR, watching TH-cam videos of people racing in VR is nowhere like actually trying VR, once in VR, it can be a mind blower not to mention all the other experiences outside of Sim Racing that can be had in VR, there's nothing else like it.

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Totally agree. At the end of the day however, a lot of it comes down to personal preference, and both have their positives and negatives. Is VR the future of sim racing especially in the e-sports world? Probably... only time will tell.

  • @Comrade_Chloe

    I’ll admit, I only have experience with VR and my single 144hz monitor.
    I generally prefer using VR purely based of the fact that I’m immersed in the world and genuinely feel like I’m in the car I’m driving. I also generally prefer playing AC with open world maps like SRP and LA Canyons. I’ve also been able to adapt to VR rather easily and very rarely get motion sickness. I’ve fallen from skyscrapers in VRChat worlds with the most being maybe a slight stumble or a cold sweat. I wound up being able to use it for a couple hours straight.
    My issue with using a monitor is my eyes really can’t focus easily on features far ahead and make it difficult for me to setup my line so to speak. And that’s with my wheel being mounted to a desk and being right up on the screen.

    • @solaryellowis3007

  • @VRRacing16

    Although it gets sweaty in the HMD, VR 100% dude! I reckon you drive better & it’s way more immersive 👌 btw the headset kind of feels like a race helmet so you could argue the heaviness adds to the immersion 😂

    Also, regarding the weight of the headset, if you were on the track or on a real race you have to put on a helmet which is heavier than a headset. So it can add up the immersion if you see it that way.

    • @Regret696
      @Regret696 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Helmet is around your head though, not hanging from the front of it.

    • @danrib4048
      @danrib4048 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the argument of weight is more about placement, in VR the bulk of the weight is in the front which would make your head tilt and strain you neck, whereas a helmet has the weight distributed all around your head

    I chose vr do to the space in my bedroom, I use the Rift S along with my Playseat Challenge, and the logitech wheel you have. I bought everything second hand except the wheel. I paid a little over $600 for everything.I like the immersion that VR gives you, and I don't play sim racers exclusively either, even though the VR isn't used for anything except sim racing games. I have a single 1440p 144hz monitor I use for everything else, I'm on this video just thinking if I should get two more and try the triple screen setup, but I just don't have the space 😿 maybe I'll just put my PC on the floor or something. Great video btw

    • @OCRacing
      @OCRacing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Richy, glad you enjoyed! I'm wondering if theres any particular reason you are considering switching to triples?

    • @syko846
      @syko846 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@OCRacing my main reason I think about switching is because I'd think I'd get better performance, I currently play the game in VR at low settings. I've turned up the settings and the game looks 10x better but my frame rate goes to shit real fast, it's unplayable in my opinion at high settings, the fluctuating frame rate gives me a headache do to the motion of the game. I currently have a 3700x and 5700xt, I planned on getting a 3080, but everything is sold out, I won't pay the scalpers price. I know that the 3080 more than likely will allow me to play at high settings in VR. But I've seen benchmarks of triple screens with my 5700xt and the game seems to run well, I know if I spend the money on the triples, I probably won't feel to good about spending another $800 on top of that for a gpu. It's love & hate with my vr, because I've seen how good it can look with a beefy gpu, bad thing is I can't buy one.

    I have the OG HTC-Vive and I find it's great for immersion. I really get lost while playing sims like ACC and rFactor2 and before I know it, a couple of hours have passed. I'm old(54) and my eyes are already shot so I wear bifocals and that's the only issue I have if I race for long sessions as the bifocals tend to get pushed into my big nose after a while. Other than that, I prefer VR to using my monitor(Samsung ultrawide 3440x1440p).

  • @maxer10150
    @maxer10150 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    It is definitely important to have a high quality vr headset, as it will ruin the immersion if you can see each of the pixels clearly to the point where my cheap tiny monitor provides more immersion than my vr (I have an oculus quest)

  • @ianspy1
    @ianspy1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have both but an a very tight budget. I got 3 22" inch monitors used for 40€ each so that was a steal ! After 2 years and upgrading to a g29 I got my self a rift S aso used I payed around 220€. Having tried both I can say this much: you can have a lot of fun with triple monitors even other games like battelfield are very immersive on triple monitors although you need a pretty beefy pc to run it. With vr you are also not locked to just sim racing. There a lot of very fun vr games out there. I would also say if you just want a place to hang out and play casualy with some friends go with triple monitors. If you would like to get into VR anyway go ahead you wont regret either. Also consider a last gen VR headset like the Rift S there often cheaper then triple monitors

    For any "flying sims" like Flight Sims, Space Sims, I use VR. Can't go back to monitors for those. Butrracing sims or EuroTruck Simulator, I just can't get used to VR. I get nauseous as soon as I have to back it up or my car spins. Interesting how in flight sims I can do any kind of maneuvers, loops, rolls, upside down, knife and I don't get sick AT ALL.

    Nice video with some great trues! Otherwise, for me whats crucial for sim racing, at least the most important device to invest on is the wheel base. That’s what is going to give you the immediate feeling of driving a car. I would suggest to invest part of your budget on a dd wheel base or on a good belt assisted one. That’s up to everyone to decide what to prioritize but although the G29 you’re showing on the video is not a bad one, you have lot of room to improve the driving experience with a better one. Having said that, I play always on vr. For me that’s the best way to feel immersed in the game, and seems that sim racing matches perfectly with a good vr headset. I have a better sense of deepness and all related to cars management seems way more natural. I really can’t play anymore on a flat screen, no matter if is a triple set, curved or super wide, I’m doing better times on vr!

    I'm kind of a lost weightlifter in here, but yall should consider neck training. It's a huge boost to how you look and alleviates all kinds of common pain problems people have in life. I guarantee that if you had a neck training routine that VR headset would not feel bad on your head.
    Also that rig looks flimsy AF, I'd crush that thing. Why not build one out of 2x4's?

    Try using helmet counterweights for VR headsets. you might need to diy some velcro but it shouldn't be too hard. This will add to the overall weight, but it will improve the balance of the headset and greatly reduce fatigue. This is the same problem and solution with wearing night vision. I was gonna write more, but have you thought about revisiting this video?

    Cons to VR: People who wears glasses will have to take them off, and what you see in the outside world (w/o glasses) is what you see in game.
    It's a 100% graphics trade off for immersion, unless the VR is compatible with glasses (like the HTC).

      What are you talking about every vr comes with a glass protectf

    • @CodElevator
      @CodElevator 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Pixility yes, but if anyone has glasses size that're around 140mm+, they won't even fit the frame or its going to be a tight squeeze. (In my case, I have 145mm and using the Quest 2 & Rift)
      Gameplay is still doable without glasses, but could be better. Navigating through the menu/store is a chore when it comes to reading the texts.
      There is always the option of buying prescribed lens too for $80-$120, which is what I'm opting for.
