John Adam's compositions are a needed balm to the gravitas of so much contemporary music. It's all about the simple pleasures of consonance and rhythm. Feel good music.
John Adams is one of the greatest American composers of our time , i have heard really a few pieces of him, and is It really is captivating, this piece is totally minimalist but unlike Philip Glass, who tends to be monotonous and sometimes boring, Adams's work is completely different because he takes minimalism to its maximum expression in colors, nuances, development and orchestral variations. ,etc. Thanks to NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchester and its conductor Alan Gilbert
GROSSARTIG!!!
I'm trying to be open minded about modern classical, and I can hear it's a complex piece. It just not my cup of tea. I will give his other works a listen. I did not like the clips, I like to imagine the scenes as I listen.
@@NDRKlassik I was not in any way suggesting this genre of music should make way for any other. I see the benefits in having a variety of classical music performed often for all to enjoy. I did like the piece it's just it took a project of discovery for me to find this video. Many comments show a love for this composer and style. I can appriciate this city piece without it being something I would personally persue frequently. Thanks for sharing the video and for replying to my comment.
Но идея та же. th-cam.com/video/jdaO0F9OTNI/w-d-xo.html
I just heard this tonight in Tampa with the Florida Symphony Orchestra! LOVE this composition!!
John Adam's compositions are a needed balm to the gravitas of so much contemporary music. It's all about the simple pleasures of consonance and rhythm. Feel good music.
Moreover, it's a perfect soundtrack to the modern world.
Exactly!
More about Timbre, pitch, and intensity. It reflects the somewhat frenetic nature of modern life and is Classical's answer to Jazz!
You reached the Modern Era!
Just dazzling. How wonderful to have this at my fingertips, versus putting the vinyl on the turntable. Glorious joy.
Many thanks for this comment. How nice that we bring so much joy with our recording.
Captivating, melodic, and cacophonous in its rhythmic strides. It's Adam's brand of romantic minimalism. It fascinates the ear.
J'adore et j'adhère...Merci ❤
I have to come back to hear this composition again.
I can never get enough of it.
So happy to hear that!!
The music has a hypnotic effect on the listener
It is very similar to Steve Reichs works especially Desert Music check it out. It is more like a "romanticized" version of it ;-)

Our pleasure! Thank you for sharing!
One of the great contemporary composers
That is techno for orchestra. Another great example that a symphonic orchestra mimics electronic music! So great!
Anything is possible! 😀
i was there first of january 2022! unforgetable!
Lucky you, how nice to start the year with music :) Enjoy the recording from the night before ✨
Orchestra musicians are all so good looking. That is because they get to play music all day.
Interesting thought! 🤩
Minimalimus zum süchtig werden... ❤🎼🥁🌏🤪🎧🔊🌈🎯👍🎹🎻😝😳🌏🎏🥰
Keine Einwände unsererseits! 😊
I keep returning to this composition.
It took me a while to appreciate it.
insane performance - that horn part at 2:21 with headphones on will take any sane person's breath away

This is the end my friend ❤😂🎼🎹🌏🌈😎🥁😊
nearly in tears - so so beautiful
Superb music, beautifully played and directed, and a special bravo to the video people, great work!
Thank you, much appreciated!!
Minimalism at its best. Excellent playing.
Pure pleasure. It is so surreal imagine President Mao and President Nixon at that party with Foxtrot music.
beautiful
this piece is so catchy
That’s an up tempo take, wow

Estoy deseando volver.
¡Muchas gracias! Esto nos alegró el día 🥰🥰🥰
Gracias.
Pure bliss !!
Thank you!
Superb.
We are delighted!
A fine, muscular performance!!!!
Thank you!!
I heard first time. So good 👍
We are glad you enjoyed it! :)
perfect!
Klingt wie die Musik aus Sim City 😇

A great performance with nostalgic visuals.
We are glad you liked it!
2:22
Wow what is that sound
Sound like a vibraphone
This is beyond great. All I can say is can we get an Alan Gilbert and NDR recording of Nixon in China?
Thank you for listening and appreciating our recording! There are currently no plans to release a recording of "Nixon in China" by Adams.
@@NDRKlassik but there SHOULD be 😍
Wonderful.
Thanks! 🤩
Excellent music 🎶🎻
Thank you! Glad to have you with us!
This is what we call genius
Lady at 2:51 is so into it - love it!
Thank you, she is great, Teresa Schwamm is our principle violist since 2019 :)
wow
Thank you for this beautigul music! Is it me or are the video and sound not in synch? It seems the sound is coming a bit late.
With pleasure! Excuse us, we have had a second look but can't find any irregularities about the synchronization.
You're right! The sound has an almost imperceptible delay to the video.
Thanks for commenting. We checked it again, but can't find any irregularities!
I never saw an ugly person play the harp. there must be an universal law behind it!
😎😎😎😎😎🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Na die Aufnahme hat mal Eier!
Please show the orchestra rather than the building!

We are aware, contemporary music is discussed. But it's nice to present and play all kinds of eras in our repertoire. Thanks for listening!

too fast
Minimalism .😢😮😅
Adams, Reich, Pärt, Glass... How dare you write that terrible music? Listen to that is waste your time.
