    "There are a lot of games that use classical music, but I couldn’t think of a single game that solely relied on classical music throughout the whole game so I thought this would be very fun to work on." - Yutaka Minobe
    www.originalsoundversion.com/i...
    "when asked if the soundtrack would feature original music by the two, Kimura noted that only one original composition* would be featured in the game, but he didn’t want to spoil the surprise. So, why all classical music? As somewhat of a casual title, Kimura feels that these pieces are so recognizable that players should be able to sing and hum along" - Interviewer
    www.originalsoundversion.com/e...
    * When asked for comment in 2021, while clarifying that DVSP must be classical, Kimura-san also heavily suggested that the only non-classical composition was Bittersweet's "SwimmingPoo1", which would fit the description of a "surprise".

    A thought occurs, since there's so many different possibilities of just what this song is, couldn't it be possible that it isn't JUST one singlar tune, but a medley of several similar tunes skillfully blended into a singular whole? Given how it's a World Map tune and all, it would kinda make sense considering a lot of world map themes in rpgs tend towards a bit of medley-ness. Usually combining the game or series main theme with other recognizable leitmotifs from other areas in the game.

      @DeadweightLKS  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah that’s definitely been a theory that’s floated. It’s just not a very strong melody with a ton of information so it would be even harder to say which pieces are part of that.
      Though, the triangle sounds a little like the game’s other main overworks theme, so it’s not impossible

    One piece of information I can provide is that the origin piece is most likely in D minor.
    For the vast majority of the soundtrack, the LKS piece is in the same key as the piece that inspired it. There are some exceptions to this rule, such as "Castle I" being in F rather than G (although intriguingly "Castle II" is correctly in G), some of the TV Dinnah music, "Tiptoe Kingdom", and "Flying Machine Unveiled" - I'd put it at 10% tops.
    The benefits of perfect pitch...

      Ooh interesting!! And impressive! Thank you so much!!
      I heard once that part of the title screen was in a different key, and that the very start of the Overworld theme has a slightly different key too, so I didn’t realise the soundtrack was so consistent!

    I’ve been revisiting Little King’s Story after a couple friends of mine were playing through Moon. I loved LKS, and its OST is still one of my favorites to this day, especially because of its references to classical music. But I never truly realized this gap existed until now. Best of luck on the search, everyone!

    Just found your channel and honestly it's nice to see Little Kings Story getting the love it deserves. Honestly one of the most creative and fun games I've played both in music, design, art, and gameplay.
    It's really a shame that the sequel flopped and didn't get ported out to other systems than the vita. Also the Steam port of the original was a massive fail too being extremely bug ridden with some gamebreaking bugs still being present.

    • @DeadweightLKS
      @DeadweightLKS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, really glad to hear it! I love hearing this, thank you
      The "sequel" ended up being a sorta ROMhack of the original, general story structure/map and all, by a different company, so it's not counted as canonical and is disregarded by most of the fandom. Talking about it is on the backlog of videos I want to make, so stay tuned for that in the future potentially

    Hi, I just recently learned about this mystery, and while I don't recognize most of the music, the trumpet part at 1:11 and 1:27 of DVSP really jumped out at me. It doesn't follow the exact rhythm, but it sounds a lot like a part of the first movement of Bruckner's 8th Symphony: th-cam.com/video/ufqC1LCpHV4/w-d-xo.html
    Hope this helps!

I have to say this video is so well-made and your voice is so relaxing! I have never known about this mystery but it's really intriguing!!. Thanks so much for making this video! :)

    The tonality kind of reminds me of this part from Stravinsky's Petrushka: th-cam.com/video/CCZ3Z6FVPJA/w-d-xo.html. Specifically the part in DVSP at 1:32

  • @promania8956
    @promania8956 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The only idea i have is that maybe speeding up the song is not the answer but rather slowing it down maybe its not slow enough to match its original source material but thats just a theory

  • @RAS-gz5yb
    @RAS-gz5yb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Very good video and very interesting subject. I've been thinking about it and to me there's really only 3 possible solutions
    1) The piece is not classical after all/so changed up it's virtually unrecogniceable
    2) The piece is so obscure it's basically impossible to find it unless you know about it already
    3) The community is not looking in the right place
    With the first two options I cannot help, but I have an idea on the third one: Maybe it's a piece of Japanese classical music? From the late 19th century to the early 20th century Japan had a bit of a western classical music phase and a ton of very stringy slow pieces came out of that, maybe it's one of those? The game was developed over there so it would make sense. Hope you guys find it eventually

    • @DeadweightLKS
      @DeadweightLKS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks.
      The possibility of Solution 1 was pretty much entirely squashed in this video so we don't need to worry about that at all. It's much more likely to be that it's just obscure and as a small community we don't have a lot of manpower nor know where to look, as said at the end of the video.
      I had no idea that modern Japanese classical music was a thing. I suppose it would make sense that it wouldn't appear on many lists/compilations of classical music or be talked about much if it's so modern and not from Europe. I'll have to look into it

    • @RAS-gz5yb
      @RAS-gz5yb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DeadweightLKS I wouldn't rule out solution 1 just yet, especially given none of the other songs picked are particularly obscure or anything. It would be very weird, but the fact it hasn't been found even after God knows how many years is very weird too
      But yeah, during the Meiji Restoration period all the way up to WW2 Japan got into western classical music, they especially liked slower pieces like DVSP, so I think there's a real chance it might be of Japanese origin. I cannot help more than that since I've never heard it

    • @DeadweightLKS
      @DeadweightLKS  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RAS-gz5yb It is weird, but there's a lot of classical music out there, and given that even some famous ones were only discovered recently because the community is simply so small that there was nobody looking, I find it 100% believable that the piece is out there and we just haven't found it yet, and that's the thread I'm following as it's the most productive. Besides, there's no reason for it not to be when the entire rest of the game's soundtrack follows such a strong theme AND the developers have confirmed multiple times that they wanted it to all be classical. I think it's possible it's just been changed a lot to the point where it doesn't jump out immediately, especially since it's so ambient (which makes it way harder to identify).
      And I think that your suggestion about the Meiji period actually backs this up. The soundtrack even includes 14th century Noh music, there's a huge variety, but since a lot of the community isn't really into classical music, we don't even know of these possibilities!
      I'll look into some famous pieces from there and see what comes of it. Thank you for your suggestion :)
