    Mad Max is quite the under appreciated game. It's not classic by any means but it does what it intends to do VERY well and I loved every minute of it. Playing through the lightning storms is quite unforgettable and a big highlight for me. Great review.

    Its a game that does everything it sets out to do well, but it doesn't do anything new or special. Its just a well produced open world game. You either will really enjoy it or you'll find it very boring.

    You didn't mention it but the first person mode in the opus was probably my favorite feature in this game. There's a mission that takes you into a train tunnel and I completed the whole sequence in first person and it may have been one of the most immersive moments in any game I've ever played.

    Great game. FYI bodies and other upgrades DO effect performance despite having no visible effect on the related stats. Believe it or this is due to the game's collision detection which is not tallied/calculated into the stats. Spikes and the underside of the car DO catch on things and effect collisions. As a result bodies that sit higher perform better on rough/uneven terrain, as they have more ground clearance. Spikes also have a tendency to collide with and catch on terrain making the effect of collisions more severe. It seems they increase the car's collision box. With them you are more likely to collide with things and get flipped around more often when you do. I learned this the hard way when looking for help/tricks in beating the last story based/mandatory race. Adjusting my car so that it had a body with more ground clearance and reducing spikes helped IMMENSELY as I was no longer catching on shit and getting turned around by collisions. These were literally the only things I changed and the performance improved dramatically even though there was no visible bump in the related stats.

    Despite its flaws this game is very very good. I too had a good time with the melee combat as well as the vehicular combat. Starting off with absolutely nothing but rags and a piece of junk of a car and upgrading it step by step has turned my Max and Magnum Opus into unstoppable weapons of destruction! I too recommend this game to every mad max and third person open world fan. I would never recommend this one to first person junkies.

    Like, I get why people dislike it, it's just the ubisoft model of open world, but, at the same time, I think people that don't play literally every single ubisoft game ever would mind it, like at all, that plus the mad max code of paint does make it stand out than random hood man 5 honestly, So I get it, but at the same time, this reaches the niche of someone who really fucking love mad max and post-apocalyptic big spikey cars and crazy people with brutal shenanigans, which i'm a part of.
    I feel like this game just had bad luck during a time where every youtuber ever was talking smack about this model of open world games, and it's deserved, however, this was suuuuper used for it everywhere and I assume it hit it hard, which wasn't really fair, it's a fun game, and honestly, sorta weird since, it's almost like a PS2 game plotwise, it's a sort of movie tie-in but not with new things, just loosely based on the movie, sorta like how Spider Man 2 was sorta based on the movie but it had all these weird other shenanigans and villains from the comics and not the movie. It's an oddity that makes me like it more.

    • @cremvursti
      @cremvursti 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think it's the other way around; people who usually play Ubi games will be able to enjoy this one, while those who don't won't be able to finish it unless they force themselves to do it. Also, if you're a fan of the Mad Max setting I could understand why you might want to finish it, otherwise I can't really see why you'd continue to play it after you reach around 50% or so.

    • @QMMarc
      @QMMarc 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cremvursti Completely disagree, when this came out I've only had played a handful of ubi open worlds, all my friends who were big into the ACs and played all the far crys said it was same old shit. Cause they were tired of the formula I assume, they ate too many cheeseburgers, that's the crux of it in my opinion. Nowadays I've seen it all and im also tired of those shenanigans. For the most part.

Best thing was putting on my own music with Steams music feature and blast through the wasteland with Kyuss and Truckfighters.

  • @contrabardus
    @contrabardus 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree with most of the video, except for the fact that Mad Max is a game that vastly overstays it's welcome.
    A smaller map and a more linear experience would have made the game much better.
    As it is, I never finished it simply because it just got boring. I did most of the major things, clearing out the strongholds, doing a lot of the side stuff as I went, etc... but it just didn't keep me invested and got old.
    That's saying something as I usually enjoy game series like Just Cause, Batman Arkham, and GTA and will always finish them. Mad Max is the only game in this genre I can recall that I haven't finished.
    The combat is fun in both vehicles and melee, but doesn't really carry the game.
    It's too padded and seems to revel in the size of it's map a bit too much. There isn't enough variation to keep it interesting for as long as it is and keep the grind from becoming more work than game.

    Hi There,
    Very comprehensive review. Thumbs up!
    In regarding , your comment in the video on Max not being fast well he is wearing a knee bracing which comes from the lore of the Road Warrior movie as as a big fan of the movie franchise I appreciate myself they transferred here. Death Races are not part of the movie lore but if you want to get through the Gastown race smoothly (this being a key point to advance in the main narrative) then i recommend to participate in them, in particularly the time bomb ones.
    I love this game and I recommend it to anyone and due this covid-19 situation, i have played extensively. I even created a playlist th-cam.com/play/PLmFsFATV5iCg2Hde-h7bUlOPNC8EIpfpU.html with full in tips ,in video and video description, in side and main missions, taking over camps and death races to anyone who is new in playing it.

    A bad game, that has a big but very specific fun factor. If you don't fall into a specific category of gamer, this game will bore you to death!
    If you look at the few and meager game mechanics available, from a game design point of view. This product has not much to offer. And its repetitive and grindy as F. Because you can't do very much, in this massive open world.
    And what you can do, turns most of the time into a chore, very quick. Cause you will repeat what you just did, too often.
    Every game mechanic in this game is either flawed, moronically designed or downright bad.
    Many mechanics could be described as, "stopped in the middle of the thought process, but still implemented....
    "
    Yet the performance, the graphics and especially the atmosphere ranges form great to outstanding. And many times, i just stood there and gazed into the distance and at the amount of nice to look at parallax textures.
    Mad Max the video game, has the looks how Fallout 1&2 would look like. If ported properly into a open world 3D RPG-Adventure. Something, that the rejects at Bethesda utterly failed to achieve!!
