Good result in the end, nice to hear G3 did the right thing. They say, not every car in an auction is a bad car, however, pretty much every bad car goes to auction. Keep up the great content 👍
BCA… Going back 30 odd years, bought a Fiesta from BCA Glasgow, now I’m like you, I avoid private/small dealer entries like the plague, but this was from one of the big whisky companies, the MD’s son’s car, in with their fleet stuff, bonnie wee car, so I paid on for it. Got it up the road, pops it in to the workshop next door for a service. Five minutes pass, mechanic’s at the door, “ have you checked the chassis number on that?” 🤔😳🙄 Under the bonnet, VIN plate rerivited, plate with the colour on it says car is brown…it’s red…up with the carpets, big plate welded in where the VIN should be on the floor. Back to BCA we go. They won’t refund, so I phoned the police. They come out, confirm it as a stolen car, and stamp a new VIN on the suspension tower. BCA want me to take it back, despite it, as it turns out, not only being a stolen car, but 2 years older than the reg suggests 😂 Long story short, threats of legal action and I get my money back. Next week, it’s back in the sale, same glowing story, I see a father and daughter buying it, so I tell them the story… Last I saw the father had the auctioneer by the lapels and was threatening a medical procedure involving the car that I’m sure is illegal in most civilised countries 😂
@@malcolmrobson7996 Good thing about internet only, this means BCA have to disclose any faults, and if vehicle is not as described or faults non disclosed, money back.
I've had just the same, bought a seat the other day at auction, hpi clear, sold it and customer paid for a full salvage check, been thru Co part as cat s, pics and everything, had to refund, contacted the auction and they didn't really want to know, usual bull, escalating complaint, but ultimately nothing from them, seems to be a loophole where a cars hpi clear, but not salvage clear, big clue is one key, only a recent v5, no history or books, as soon as I paid at the counter I knew it was hookey, just given a v5, car was 4k and 45k,tbh worth half that as cat s, only good thing is auction now does a salvage check for 4 quid
I bought an XR2i in 1993, HPI clear, had it a year, turns out it was a ringer. I had a binder full of faxes from Ford to try and prove it wasn't. To no avail, it was Q'ed.
At my local auction half of the stock does not come in until a few hours before the auction starts, the auctions should be a bit more carful but understandable for them to not pick up on absolutely everything. Everyone should know there are very real risks buying an auction car.
I'm guessing no contribution to the inevitable, and likely costly bill from Charlie for his detective work? Interesting episode, and although I'm not a dealer, I'm looking forward to the upcoming series. 👍🏻
The X1 probably had a blown engine and swapped out with whatever they could find to fit. Reminds me of the old ploy with hiring a car to swap a worn engine with a new one.
Best to go to the auction in person, you'd have probably sniffed that one out, I give diesels big revs as soon as keys are out checking for black, white, grey or blue smoke, not as flash as bidding on line, but far safer.
Very possibly the original engine needed a timing chain. They have the most likely installed the wrong engine number back in cos they got it cheap etc.... the 25d engine is different to a 18d etc so most likely the issue there
i remember trading in the 80s when the auctions were an old dirty hall with rusty wrecks everywhere. It was like the wild west. the only way to make a living was to bodge them up and get rid to some poor sod.
@@jontimms3744 You wouldn't miss the burger van at my auctions back in the day before 5 star health ratings 🤣 i wouldnt even get a cup of tea from there

Well not stolen, but wrong engine, will have been tru copart with a blown engine and some likely lads have stuffed one in, did very well to get a refund as really just had mechanical faults, tbh I've stopped bringing anything up at the auction as no matter if it's all green on the report they won't do anything and you just seem a problem customer, bidding you up, stuff like that, only last week bought a c3, all green on the report, 50 quid fee, crunched into 5th,so knackered box, fiesta yesterday, again all green, drove back, no power, in limp, no boost, blocked dpf, it great when they're charging you an assured fee and the cars worse than one with a lite check. That's the block for you.
Two interesting tales. Years ago I bought a car through the auction, and when I picked up,the docs (old paper style MOT) the MOT Mileage had been altered from 91519 to 69151.9 to coincide with the speedo. That was a haircut without the Barber being involved. The auction house were a bit relectaunt until I said, that's fine, well just get trading standards involved if you can let the vendor know. Alternatively, if the vendor wants to take a more simple approach, I'll have a refund and we will say no more..........they opted for a refund
Charlie always says dont speek to strangers .If you want a laugh watch Shifting Metal he pays double the price for cars the Auctioneer see,s him in the Crowed and starts again after 8 thousand , they all shout he,s here he,s arrived .
Props to G3 for the no quibble refund. As with any purchase it's caveat emptor but it's good to know who you can trust. I'm guessing you'll be bidding at G3 in the new series? Looking forward to it Rob 🙌
lol what a polava anyway rob i have a vw golf r estate version 7.5 i paid 26k for it still on finance but thinking of getting rid of it because of health issues , let me know if you are interested , i am enjoying your content , thank you.

Now that Bca auctions are now only done by internet only is it safe as your buying the cars blind.
