I just got an iphone 15 Pro so I can shoot in Apple Log to an external SSD while using this app. Even though I’ve been using the app for several weeks with another phone, there are features you noted that I missed. Thank you.
Awesome tutorial, thank you! I installed this app a few weeks ago. Now I feel confident to start exploring the capabilities of the app. Just found your channel and subscribed!
I thought your explanation was excellent, well presented and at a good cadence, you where also clear about aspects that may need more study, I will certainly return and have subscribed. Thanks
I started using Filmic Pro when it was offered for free. I liked it. When they started charging a subscription, I resigned myself to paying. I stopped using Filmic Pro when they fired the original staff. I like the support for 1:33 anamorphic lens on my iPhone pro max 13. I like the support for my rode microphone and the DJI steady cam {thingy}.
The major problem with this app is the fact that there is no AUTO ISO if you locked the fps and shutter speed. So, if I want to vlog outside or in a place where I don´t have control of the light, it will be a problem. Also, I wish I could stream directly from the app to my youtube channel.
Hi Ryan, I am a UK viewer of this video, which is one of the best descriptions of the controls etc. that I have come across. But I am left hanging as to how to use all these buttons etc. Have you, or are you planning to release a video which would meet my requirements? Also, how to use LUTs, which I have never heard of before. Many thanks and keep up the good work for beginners like me. I have just subscribed.
Hello! Glad you’d found it helpful. I would recommend watching my videos on camera controls to get a better understanding of how to use them. Are you needing to know how to use LUTs in the app or just in general? Thanks for watching!
@@RyanCampFilms Many thanks for your helpful and quick reply. Can you direct me to the specific videos please, and yes,I need to use LUTs in the App. Many thanks again.
Good video, thanks! I have a question on shutter angle. Back when I had a GH4 I used shutter angle set to 180. I was told at the time I could use that setting and the camera would automatically set the shutter speed to double the frame rate (i.e. 24 fps at 1/48 per second, 60 fps at 1/120/sec, etc). Is this in fact true on the iPhone?
Hi I’ve got an iPhone 13 mini and these are the options I get in the app: Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, Apple ProRes 422 LT, Apple ProRes 422 Proxy, HEVC (H.265) and H.264.
Any tips for shooting log via black magic with an ND filter (i got the polarpro VND 3-5) in high light snowy mountains? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated as I’m very new to shooting in log and want to make the most of an upcoming Alaska trip.
It can be tricky when you’re shooting in log to get the proper exposure. Be sure to use your built in guides like waveforms and zebra stripes to point you in the right direction. Have fun on your trip and thanks for watching!
Hi, I just downloaded the Blackmagic Camera app on my iPhone 16 Pro and I have an issue with the UI, it is not rotating to a horizontal (landscape). I have tried all the settings but I see no way to see the same screen UI as yours. Can anyone help? Thanks a lot.
I have a question though, choosing 30fps, does it record in 29.97 or exactly 30? Or the difference does not matter so we could choose either when creating a new project timeline.
I just got the iphone 16 pro max and I am trying to record pro res videos in log but everytime I use an external ssd, I get this frame drop alert and the recording just freezes. What can I do to fix it?
I will be making a feature update video soon to cover the new updates. I haven’t researched this button yet, but it appears to match your FPS with a correct shutter angle/setting.
I have been following your guide - newbie here! I have imported a lut to Blackmagic camera app and selected “record lut to clip” - however if I try to share the video to stories in Instagram it shows it without the lut applied and I’m unsure why? Anyone able to help?
Why Blackmagic camera app turns off the flashlight light after I turn it on my iPhone 15 Pro Max whenever I use Blackmagic camera app to record videos at night or in the dark room? Without flashlight light on, it records black videos in the dark room. Apple camera app lets iphone flashlight light on whenever I record videos in the dark or at night. Blackmagic shoiul update this featurue for iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max.

On 12 Pro Max I can't use the screen as horizontally! It has just a little cam screen. When I unlock the vertical option it has full screen but this time the menus on the screen are not horizantal. 😢 Any help how to fix it? Thank you.
I have two different e-books. You must have followed the link to the paid Field Guide. Here is the link for the free Pocket Guide: www.ryancampfilms.com/freeindiefilmguide
Look Up Table - in simple terms a file that defines the colour and tone in order to view an image in a specific way. The LUT file contains specific values which means that any hardware or software that works with LUTS will always display the exact same colours and tones. LUTs can be altered say if you want the colour to be more yellow or more saturated. The LUT is separate from the image meaning you can change the LUT without permanently changing the image beneath - think of it like a digital filter. If you wear rose tinted glasses everything will appear rose tinted but when you remove the glasses reality is returned. LUTS are really only relevant in the professional industries such as camera operators, editors graders and colourists.

Is there an Android alternative to this app?

It looks great! One question, though. How do I adjust the depth of field thing when I want to make cinematic looking videos?
If you're referring to the 3-point rack focus controls, I cover that in this new video: th-cam.com/video/sa-EwKiiGSI/w-d-xo.html

If the shot is overexposed given the frame rate and the shutter speed is locked why not just lower the ISO? Am I missing something?

There’s should be a setting called lock orientation. Make sure that is off or locked on the orientation that you want.
I have a question though, choosing 30fps, does it record in 29.97 or exactly 30? Or the difference does not matter so we could choose either when creating a new project timeline.
The app actually allows you to set it to 29.97 or 30.
I'd love to hear your views on CinemaP3.
Hopefully, I'll get around to it soon! Thanks!
What is the solution for changing/controlling the F stop function??
The f-stop cannot be controlled on an iPhone currently.
I just got the iphone 16 pro max and I am trying to record pro res videos in log but everytime I use an external ssd, I get this frame drop alert and the recording just freezes. What can I do to fix it?
I’m not sure how to stop the frame drops, but you can go into setting and set it to “alert” instead of stop recording if you get frame drops.
What is the new O/S button when you click on the FPS?
I will be making a feature update video soon to cover the new updates. I haven’t researched this button yet, but it appears to match your FPS with a correct shutter angle/setting.
Hey I can’t use this app horizontally. Please help
Check the settings and make sure that the “enable vertical video” button isn’t turned on.

Im trying to grade the video from this app using Resolve. What are the correct CST settings for this? Specifically the input gamma.

is there a way to not have the Iris (apature) setting greyed out?
It depends on if your device supports aperture control or not.
Can this app takes Pictures too?
I don’t believe so.

Why can not we shoot photos with this amazing app 😢
They may add this feature someday.
Why when doing video with my Iphone 13 Pro max the video look yellow and dark??
Not sure if you’re having a specific issue, but generally one of the downsides to shooting on iPhone is bad low light performance and colors.
iPhone 15 pro will not see SSD (record too) drive using Blackmagic phone app. Please advise.
I am using a reader card. Perhaps it works the same way? I ave to go to Files, then find my SSD card, select that and save there

what is a LUT? I would like it if the terminology was broken down a little more for us beginners, Honey!
