My bugbear is about how books are used. Books are meant to be read not just demoted to styling a shelf or used as risers for a vase or trinket. I love seeing a bookshelf filled with books. It gives me a sense of knowing someone's personality and interests. Our interior styles will always have the basic principles / influences however evolve through refinement and usually by a larger disposable income.
Excellent point! I have 2 books on my coffee table and although they do look cool, I have nothing on top of them or obstructing access to them and yes they are both books that reflect my personality and interests 😉
Absolutely! I admit to being a little snobbish about books. Worse than not having any books is having books obviously bought by the yard for their impressive bindings. The book “Class” by Paul Fussell hilariously categorizes interior design by social status/wealth. Sadly, I’m from a long line of proletarians, but I don’t have to advertise it by only having a TV Guide and a Chicken Soup for the Soul sitting in my living room!
You can decorate with books you have already read, and instead of having them in a drawer or something, putting them in display in your coffee table or shelf
I love seeing the growth! For me, I would love to see more green on the shelves (2nd comparison). Green can be so warm and neutral and I think a few plants scattered throughout the shelves can add a little more texture, not feel overwhelming, still be neutral and warm, and fill in some of those empty spaces.
That deep red/ burgundy art piece is such a winner! As you said its unexpected. Goes so well with everything in the room. The scale is perfect too. Putting something neutral there would look good too - but wouldnt it be so overdone - something you can find in every magazine. I loved the unexpectedness, yet the cohesiveness that art piece brought to the room

Your style has evolved as you have grown and learned your trade. The first home was lovely, but I see the new house as a timeless beauty. There is a famous scene in the movie “Sunset Boulevard” where Norma Desmond descends the stairs and says, “I’m ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille”. Your home is just about ready for her close-up and you have done an amazing job!
Let me tell u this, 90% of people would never ever reach the level of your old design style. new style is much more sophisticated and has inspired me a lot.

Hey Arvin! I’ve been following you for a few years and it’s been amazing to see how your style has changed! I’ve learned so much from your videos where you talk about how you would’ve done things differently. I find that I don’t always know how I’ll feel about something until I’ve put it in my space and lived with it for a bit.

BUT, I also still love my 82” olive tree from Nearly Natural. 🤣 I have had it for YEARS and am contemplating getting another because I just love the shade, lightness of it, and just how it makes me feel when I look at it, lol. I’ve tried other trees, but none give me that same feeling. 🤷🏻♀️🫣😂❤️😘😘😘

You have definitely grown Arvin😊 While there are elements of your old design that I love, I absolutely love where you are now❤❤ I have photos of my design style as far back as 15 years and I cringe now at some of the choices I made, especially knowing that I loved it at the time, but I will hang onto them because it is fun to look back and see how far I've come. I really liked all the rooms you showed even though I can understand your criticisms. One thing I really loved about your Vegas living room was the look of comfort. With those chairs and pillows it looked so luxuriously cozy. The room you did for your brother and sister in law was my favorite, that coverlet on the bed is such a nice color and the drapes look so elegant. And your current office is yummmmmmmy.

I think we can all do this ..look back at old pictures of our house, our clothes, our hairstyles. Everyone 'evolves' to some degree. You just happen to be on YT so we see yours on vid. But I definitely remember you working at Gucci and the rug dance and how everyone was stalking that Sarah Brooke painting and crystals from HG. You definitely are a trendsetter and ppl myself included like your style (even if its different than mine). Your humor is always fun to watch. Omg!!!! The New bedroom in Vegas is divine!!!! Actually I love that the pendant breaks the dimension, otherwise would look super knit, looks more humane
I like the art in the new house. It works with your fireplace, which is hidden by your lovely shearling chair. Can you rethink the furniture arrangement? Maybe move the sofa? It's a tad small for the painting. The overall feeling of the room is grand, masculine or yang. I feel like it needs another sculptural art piece, maybe a voluminous or glossy one?

I thought the last two couches you had were so different that they really stood out and made your design so classy. Like Art.justna little smaller. Maybe a couple of pillow with that color in it would help or a throw. Pull it all togesther. It is still very good and you have definitely improved. THE COUCHES YOU HAD WERE MY FAVORITE!
Your style went from very cool toned and neutral with minimal contrast to more warm and curated. Tastes and style changes and matures over time, its okay! I have moved a lot and have changed things up every move. I look back at our first homes listing photos and cringe at my style choices too 😆
For me, the things I display on shelves need to mostly serve a purpose. Books I enjoy on shelves, containers that hold note pads and pens are useful, but a stool on top of a book and little bric a brac everywhere just turns sculpture to clutter.
Your 2019 design does push Bohemian and feels quite approachable. However the poof and stool under the coffee table is just too cluttered. Love the couch and chairs although we've out grown the chopped pile of pillows. The farmhouse vibe, just isn't you Arvin, so glad to see the clock and signs are gone. I'm loving your newer front room, but that art work has to go. I personally would prefer a lighter colored sofa, it's just a bit too dark making it feel a bit too heavy, for my taste. Love your rug collections, so beautiful! I also love your gorgeous vintage chairs, just fabulous! Your new design feels very curated! I actually love the office shelves, the pieces come across as a "curated vessel collection." Love, love love the new office shelves. The warmth of the wood is outstanding and although your shelves are styled nicely, I'm so partial to that curated vessel look. I'm a huge coffee table book lover so I'm happy to see them mixed in with your vessels. The bedroom make over is very soothing, however, I agree that the pendent should go. The black side tables come across as too stark with your softer color pallet, would love to see these in a warmer colored wood. Arvin congrats on your Rug USA collection! I see your growth from younger to now, a bit older but much more refined. The newer living room is similar in layout only better. The boucle anything I can live without, as they always look pre cat clawed to me. I agree that the red painting over the sofa seems a bit of a dissonance. Gorgeous rug, and I really like your color pallet! Your bedroom decor is 1000% better. It looks so serene, soothing & calm. I'd put a ceiling hugging chandelier in place of the paper lamp. 😚 I also despise the pillow chop.

It's just too hot here not to use a quiet, effective ceiling fan...as much as I'd love a beautiful pendant. (I'd LOVE to see some of your favorite ceiling fan choices! I will never be mad at Arvin back then in the homegoods hunt- because that’s how I found you channel back in 2020. You have envolved - and will still be changing. All I have to say - you have made it so hard for me to buy anything now 😂. I ‘m always in search of unique pieces- and not to successful at Homegoods anymore. 😂

I was thinking that same thing. The wood bookcase had such a warm tone to it, plants would look amazing on the shelves.

I think we can all do this ..look back at old pictures of our house, our clothes, our hairstyles. Everyone 'evolves' to some degree. You just happen to be on YT so we see yours on vid. But I definitely remember you working at Gucci and the rug dance and how everyone was stalking that Sarah Brooke painting and crystals from HG. You definitely are a trendsetter and ppl myself included like your style (even if its different than mine). Your humor is always fun to watch. Yes roasting yourself was funny and ppl who send in their spaces is funny too. Its all in good fun. Just keep being true to you...your tribe will always find you...

I like the art in the new house. It works with your fireplace, which is hidden by your lovely shearling chair. Can you rethink the furniture arrangement? Maybe move the sofa? It's a tad small for the painting. The overall feeling of the room is grand, masculine or yang. I feel like it needs another sculptural art piece, maybe a voluminous or glossy one?

I thought the last two couches you had were so different that they really stood out and made your design so classy. Like Art.justna little smaller. Maybe a couple of pillow with that color in it would help or a throw. Pull it all togesther. It is still very good and you have definitely improved. THE COUCHES YOU HAD WERE MY FAVORITE!

Your style went from very cool toned and neutral with minimal contrast to more warm and curated. Tastes and style changes and matures over time, its okay! I have moved a lot and have changed things up every move. I look back at our first homes listing photos and cringe at my style choices too 😆

For me, the things I display on shelves need to mostly serve a purpose. Books I enjoy on shelves, containers that hold note pads and pens are useful, but a stool on top of a book and little bric a brac everywhere just turns sculpture to clutter.
Your 2019 design does push Bohemian and feels quite approachable. However the poof and stool under the coffee table is just too cluttered. Love the couch and chairs although we've out grown the chopped pile of pillows. The farmhouse vibe, just isn't you Arvin, so glad to see the clock and signs are gone. I'm loving your newer front room, but that art work has to go. I personally would prefer a lighter colored sofa, it's just a bit too dark making it feel a bit too heavy, for my taste. Love your rug collections, so beautiful! I also love your gorgeous vintage chairs, just fabulous! Your new design feels very curated! I actually love the office shelves, the pieces come across as a "curated vessel collection." Love, love love the new office shelves. The warmth of the wood is outstanding and although your shelves are styled nicely, I'm so partial to that curated vessel look. I'm a huge coffee table book lover so I'm happy to see them mixed in with your vessels. The bedroom make over is very soothing, however, I agree that the pendent should go. The black side tables come across as too stark with your softer color pallet, would love to see these in a warmer colored wood. Arvin congrats on your Rug USA collection! I see your growth from younger to now, a bit older but much more refined. The newer living room is similar in layout only better. The boucle anything I can live without, as they always look pre cat clawed to me. I agree that the red painting over the sofa seems a bit of a dissonance. Gorgeous rug, and I really like your color pallet!
Your bedroom decor is 1000% better. It looks so serene, soothing & calm. I'd put a ceiling hugging chandelier in place of the paper lamp.

As you designed your brother's space, I was thinking the pendant was too large, also! But the rest... chef's kiss!😘 I'm happy you're replacing it with a fan...makes me feel so much better about keeping mine. It's just too hot here not to use a quiet, effective ceiling fan...as much as I'd love a beautiful pendant. (I'd LOVE to see some of your favorite ceiling fan choices! Love the new home, that magenta big piece of art on top of the sofa is bold, unexpected, warm and makes everything look cozy, well lived in., sorry you are not in love with it because it's a piece that you don't see in any home...love the wooden shelf, the contrast against the light wall is perfect, love your videos, love the way you are going, don't be too hard on yourself because everything looks really nice, looking forward to see the nex video, always enjoy them so much...kisses to the pups.

You have evolved. The new house is casually elegant (or elevated). I also feel more money has been spent on individual items. The LV home is casual and less sophisticated. Growing is good. I'm about to change the majority of my living room after staying the same for years. Love your videos. You have changed a bit also😊 I do miss the dance moves in the rugs however!
