  • Unboxing and sound example of a custom Seydel chromatic harmonica configured to whole tone / augmented tonal layout. Hole 1 starts with A2. The harmonica covers 48 unique tones (4 octaves) in the 12 holes. Each hole has 4 unique tones. A chromatic octave fits in just 3 holes.
The same tone-pattern is repeated across the harmonica.
Pressing the slider always raises the tone a half step. Drawing is always two half steps above blowing.
There are no repeated tones in contract to the traditional tone-layout of most available off-the-shelf chromatic harmonicas.
I am a beginner. Even though this tone layout has to be custom ordered, I would rather learn to play using this than the solo tone layout with repeated tones in several hole positions.
The instument was configured and orded online at Seydel's custom shop.
Reverb was added to sound recording in Audacity. The slight rattling in sound must be due to the microphone or sound file processing, not the instrument. Better sound file here: / seydel-chromatic-de-lu...
The instrument itself has a traditional design with square holes and some rather sharp corners. The comb is made of transparant brown plastic. The slider moves easily and is fairly quiet.
