Hi LizaQuin, I really enjoyed & appreciate your reaction, there are many great female vocalist in the world, then there are a few exceptional ones ,then there is Floor Jansen, Floor Jansen formerly of AfterForever & ReVamp who in 1999
started attending the Rock Academy in Tilburg and then at the National Conservatory in the Netherlands. She then went on to study & trained in musical theatre and also attended opera lessons for a year., for your indulgence and reference I offer my list for you , cheers,
Welcome to the best band and female vocalist of our time, I know bold statement but if you take the journey you will understand ,the YT fan base is massive, passionate & very active, 80% of which is for the Floor era,she stepped in Oct 2012 ,and has been their 3rd,current & "Final" vocalist .
As someone who started listening to Nightwish and Floor with her 1st band AfterForever 20 yrs ago I offer My song list recommendations below which is solely focused on the singer you just saw & heard, cheers
**there are 2 pivotal events since Floor Jansen came aboard NW in late 2012 #1 Wacken 2013 - #2 Beste Zangers 2019 at this popular Dutch tv show filmed on Ibiza some top Dutch singers past & present get together and the person on the center couch for the day has one of their songs or a song that has meaning to them sung back to them reinterpreted by the other singers, novel idea .
Floor opened the show with the 1st song below and just blew everyone's mind, only two of the other singers knew who Floor was but none of them had heard her sing with such versatility, after the 8 day run of the show Floor's & NW's popularity soared, stadiums filled up and ticket sales shot up.btw since Floor joined NW & after this show NW's fan base has tripled . on Mama by Samantha S.Floor completely changes the tempo and song structure ,the song is about Samantha wanting to be more like her Mom, Que Se Siente by Rolf is originally a merenge ,mambo type song so of course Floor does it her way,Winner by Tim A. he wrote for his brother who has Spina Bifida,
About Love ,Ruben wrote about his parents divorce.

Hello Liza Quin [ @LizaQuin ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me.
Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This live recording is from Wacken Open Air 2013, together with Floor Jansen [pronounced Yansen], the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen [pronounced Tuo-mas], the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [Sami Vanska was the bassist of the band starting with their 2nd studio album, he was with them until 2001. Then Marco Hietala was bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least. Then in May 2021 Jukka Koskinen [pronounced Yukka] became the bassist of the band, for the Human :II: Nature tour - and recently, the band announced he became a permanent member] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen [he also recorded the bass lines for their 1st studio album]. Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen [pronounced Yukka] is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen [pronounced Tarr-ya] (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.
I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol "
For an extended set of suggestion (with links), I posted 2 huge comments in the community tab in my main YT channel. [I noticed that comments with links are blocked here, so I'm re-posting the message without the link - if you're interested in good quality audio and video links, you'll find the way to my YT channel]

Nightwish Shadow Unit from Estonia reporting in ! Valkyrie Goddess spotted ! Gabriel Bardac entered !
Floor her name is derived from the Roman Goddess of Spring, Flora.
Floor Jansen is called the Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy.
Floor Jansen is a soprano, with a range of more than 4 octaves (Eb2 to F6).
She can sing from classical to belting and raspy vocals like screaming and death growls. And she's also a voice coach and teacher to boot. Plus, huge vocal nerd 😉.
Floor Jansen was the singer of the Dutch metal band After Forever from 1997 to early 2009. From 1999 she studied at the Rockacademie in Tilburg with classmates Jacqueline Govaert and Danny Vera, where she graduated in 2003. She studied musical theatre and a year of opera. In addition to her activities at After Forever, she gave singing lessons. She plays guitar, piano and flute. On May 5, 2010, she presented her new band ReVamp, which was disbanded in September 2016.
From 1 October 2012 Jansen replaced Anette Olzon (Second singer of Nightwish after Tarja) as singer of Nightwish during the Imaginaerum World Tour (And she had to learn the setlist in 48h). On October 9, 2013, it was announced that she would be the group's regular new front singer. In 2015, Nightwish released the album Endless Forms Most Beautiful with Jansen as lead singer. Nightwish's second studio album with Jansen as front singer, Human. :II: Nature., was released in April 2020.
And the master of this magic is:
Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot.
This was recorded at the 2013 Wacken (pronounced Vahken) Open Air festival in Germany in front of an audience of 82,000 people. The fiery bull head is the symbol of the festival.
We hope, that there is more coming.
    NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘.

11:50 The Floorgasm brings yet another convert to the family !! 😁 Welcome Sister. You’re one of us now. Just FYI, that’s about 70 minutes into the show, and Floor had been killin’ it the whole way already. Also, that’s 82 THOUSAND people hanging on her every word; so, no pressure on her to Bury that (9 second long)high note.... At 6’1 and 170 pounds Floor is a smiling, singing, dancing, enchanting, stage commanding Valkyrie Goddess, and to me at least, a gift from above. Seeing the whole video of this concert, Especially the Floorgasm changed my life. It made me start listening to music again. I love watching these reaction videos and my biggest hope is that people follow and enjoy the Symphonic Metal path I was led to. Welcome to it.
A breathtaking masterpiece sung by a Valkyrie Goddess… or what Nightwish thinks of as just another day.

Welcome to the greatest composer of my lifetime (and I'm a fossil), the greatest front person (since Freddie Mercury), and the most talented (and tightest) bend on the planet. As I hope you learn, no two songs are alike, each is an adventure filled with brilliance and emotion, and will stir your being in ways you did not expect. Gabriel has already made his recruitment visit, and you can trust him to guide you on the best journey of my musical life. What you will learn on this journey is that the invisible super-power of Nightwish is their love for each other and especially for their audience. While each song is a masterpiece, you will also discover that your current favorite Nightwish song is the one to which you are currently listening. Do yourself a favorite and don't try to rank them, it will make you crazy. You will also learn that each member is a virtuoso, and they play exactly what is needed for the composition, and do not play for their own glory. Respect and love is huge between them all, and you can observe the true passion and joy each song bring them. They are one of very few bands who out-preform their studio albums in a live environment, but they do have several videos well worth the attention. Their genius is unmatched, and I will gladly be along for your discovery of this!! Well done, LizaQuin ... subscription attained.

Greetings from Vancouver, Canada Liza. The amount of talent and musicianship on this stage is staggering. Each chord, each melodic choice, each lyric and each vocal choice are meticulously thought of, planned and executed. Nothing is out of place, redundant or "showboaty". Each member of the band are world-class professionals but they check their egos at the door and serve only one purpose: the needs of the song. This particular live performance is, in my opinion, the gold standard. Everything came together during this concert to create a legacy for the ages. It's like they all came down from Asgard to show us a glimpse of perfection and immortality before we all crawl back to our oblivion again. I promise you, this Nightwish rabbit hole is full of satisfying twists and turns that will keep you on your toes for a long time. Welcome to Nightwish Army and keep on keeping on!

Welcome to the genre!!! We almost didn’t need words for this performance - your facial expressions said it all. There are some *fantastic* bands in the realm of symphonic metal, but to me Nightwish is THE premiere practitioner. The maestro is behind the keyboards - Tuomas - and he writes the vast majority of their pieces and also the lyrics. Not only is he a master of musical composition, he’s quite an amazing poet. Dive into the catalog and you’ll see! As for Floor??? Well, you said it early on…”a goddess has entered the stage”. If you choose to go down this rabbit hole, I’ll be here for the journey!

Ohhh what a rabbit hole you are about to enter. Although they are indeed a Finnish band, Floor Jansen (YAHN-sen) is a classically trained Nederlander soprano. The keyboardist- Tuomas Holopainen- composes and arranges the vast majority of their music. May I suggest that if you continue with NW, you try Storytime from the same concert (Wacken 2013) for a nice contrast- a real banger.

Northern New England Division checking in. I really enjoyed your analysis and insight. As someone with no musical training I love when knowledgeable singers share their thoughts and help me to understand how my favorite songs and singers create these amazing stories and emotions.
Welcome to the amazing world of Nightwish and their current singer Floor Jansen. She is one of the most versatile singer's in the world today and can go from operatic soprano notes to Death Metal growls. A self proclaimed vocal nerd, she has been singing in bands (mostly metal) since she was a teenager (she is now in her 40"s). She was one of the first Dutch Rock Academy students and has also studied opera for a year and musical theater for 2 years. What I love most about her singing and Tuomas's compositions is there ability to make me feel emotions, even when I don't want to.
To really get a good listen to her voice try the acoustic version of How's the Heart from Planet Rock. Song is off their latest album and is just Floor and Troy with an acoustic guitar. She again shows her versatility, agility, and storytelling in an exposed and beautiful performance. th-cam.com/video/yYtkPpFYzOo/w-d-xo.html.

The original version was performed in a much more operatic style by original Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen. Floor Jansen, while staying close to that style, adds more colors and textures, truly making the song her own -- especially with that last note, which isn't in the original (and hits me in the heart every time!)

What’s amazing is this is probably the #1 song most of us thought they would probably never do live again after Tarja left, and I’m pretty sure they never did it with Anette. Hi Liza and welcome to the deep rabbit hole that is Nightwish. Loved how you analyzed Floor's changes between vocal techniques and just as the video continues she does it yet again. If it wasn't a too hard step I'd suggest her former band ReVamp with "Disdain" now, just to see your facial expressions😂. Maybe you can keep that in mind for later while you explore Nightwish's music. There's a lot to listen to and as we fans say: No song is like the other. So, be prepared and enjoy the ride 🎸🤘🏻!

    Hello Liza Quin.
Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands.
Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish.
    They are from Finland.
    And they make Symphonic Metal.
What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do.
Nightwish really hits you in your heart.
And that's what makes this band so unique.
Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch.
    There were 82,000 people there.
I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion.
Watch out for the Nightwish Army.

I have seen many reaction vids to this song, several from vocal coaches, and I like how those like you who know what you are doing know just how DAMN DIFFICULT what she does is. She pulls this off so easily or seems to, this is why some call her the Nordic Goddess of Sound. And as I think some have pointed out this song is like 15 out of a 16 song set during this performance.

Liza Quin ... I have seen hundreds of reactions to this particular version of the song from Wacken '13. I have to say that I really enjoyed your technical appreciation for all the elements thrown at us in this composition. Excellent job, and excellent demonstration of your own vocal talents. You should do a lot more of this genre and even some progressive metal too. It's truly worthy of your ear and own talents.

Lisa, thanks so much for reviewing this clip. I have a plethora of live recordings back to 1972 Deep Purple "Made in Japan" (a very good album to listen Ian Gillian's vocal prowess. I was 11 years old at that time and was enamoured with more theatrical rock. From that time intil this, the Nightwish show and particularly "Ghost Love Score " cannot be exceeded. She's covering songs from the first 2 female vocalists. She joined the band while they were on tour when Mrs. Olsson had to leave the road due to pregnancy issues. This was between Denver and Salt Lake City. She 15:00 had a little over a week to rehearse with the band and be ready to perform. She's consummate professional, a mother, wife, producer, and friends to all who love her.🎉

Damn, this was a really good reaction and analysis from you 👍 - you clearly knows what you are talking about, from both real experiences, as well as the skills, talent and training behind a performance like those Nightwish with Floor in front, does on their worlds tours.
Great with a true pro listening carefully and appreciating what you experience 👌
And don't worry - this one is not considered to their best - it's just a perfect 'ice breaker' to the Nightwish Universe, where you will discover incredible stories and compositions, like no other bands can match.
How about a book about 4.6 billion years of the Evolution of the Earth? 22 minutes, using everything from fireworks to illustrate the collisions of the comets and asteroids forming our planet - and until we nuke it - enter ratkind....
The book by the scientist Richard Dawkins 'The Greatest Show on Earth' - are converted into a masterpiece of a composition called ' The Greatest Show on Earth' - and please go for the Tampere 2015 version - and stay on until the video is completely finished, because the speaking afterwards is an important part of the song !!

Welcome to Nightwish Army! As a member of Nightwish Army, informed you that have witnessed as the fans called "Floorgasm" when Floor hits that high note. I have been watching and reacting to Nightwish 4 years. Little information here on lineup changed since this recording in 2013. Floor replaced another singer, Anette Olzon. Floor signed on as touring vocalist for this tour. Prior to this tour, Nightwish did a tune up dates here in the US before heading to Europe. Floor had to learn all songs of Nightwish in 48 hours. On her channel, Floor Jansen react and analyzed this song from Wacken. She gives in depth on each section of this song. That drummer, Jukka Nevalainen quit touring after this tour because he had sleeping problems, but Jukka runs day to day operations for Nightwish. His replacement is Kai Hahto. Bass player, Marko Hietala left the band for other projects and relax from touring in 2020. His replacement is Jukka Koskinen who stepped in 2021 as touring bassist, and he became new permanent bassist in 2022. Mainstay of Nightwish is the maestro, Tuomas Holopainen, who composed and writes music for Nightwish. We have to give thanks to friend of Tuomas, who took him to a rock concert, concert was Metallica and Guns N Roses. Tuomas never heard rock music because he studied music theory and classical music at music school in Finland.

I saw you also reacted to a song by Emma Heesters. Floor and Emma were together in the 2019 season of Beste Zangers. BZ is a Dutch show where a group of singers sing songs that are written by another one in the group or mean something special to them. Emma sang Strong for Floor (from Floor's After Forever period) and Floor sang Shallow (lady Gaga cover) for Emma. Beste Zangers is besides Nightwish a good source of getting to know Floor. And of course there are the corona covers and her recent solo album and tours. And Nightwish is more than Floor, 4 great singers (3 female lead singers and Marko) a composer in stead of a songwriter, two world class drummers and fantastic bass player and guitarist. Gabriel will be your guide if you dare to go down this rabbit hole.

  • @ChrisPhoenixMusic
    @ChrisPhoenixMusic ปีที่แล้ว

    Cheers!
It's nice to see Gabriel is summoned, so I'll just reiterate or add to whatever he said already...
You can find a LOT more of what you saw here in more Nightwish videos. This is a reasonable showcase that touches on a few aspects her vocal prowess but there are songs that can take each one further if you want to venture down this rabbit hole.
If you want to dive into a Nightwish month for your channel, (for starters it can get you more viewers since the fans love metal but also fully appreciate classical training, and you may learn some things from studying Floor's amazing voice) I'll give you a suggested playlist. I'm a long time fan (first heard them in 1998) and have seen them several times live... and let me just say that having goosebumps for an hour straight is not something I've ever experienced elsewhere.
Here's a little info: The composer (Tuomas - keys) has worked with 3 singers and a couple member changes, but always remains to be the main lyric and music writer since the band's inception in 1996.
Floor is known as the former lead singer of metal band After Forever and her "continuation" project ReVamp. She has appeared on Beste Zangers (wiki for more info), guest appeared with Epica (another symphonic metal band) and many classical performances as well. This band's first vocalist is Tarja (Tarya is closer to how it is pronounced) Turunen, who is a classically trained lyrical singer. She currently has a metal solo project named after her. Their second singer (Anette Olzon) appeared on their "transition" albums when they moved from the older syphonic "power metal" sound into the more cinematic type of production they have as of late. Century Child and Once (Turunen) were the first iterations of this transition, however. Anette's vocal style is primarily pop/rock, but her emotive style really lends to the content of the songs extremely well, so Floor adds a bit from both singers' styles into how she presents the older songs these days.
Marco (no longer with NW) is the other vocalist & bassist. While he primarily does supportive harmonies in many songs, he also sings lead fairly often, so he's equally worthy of review. He combines the power of operatic vocals with the tonality of a gritty metal singer and it's amazing to watch.
That being said, here's my recommended playlist:
    "Ever Dream"
    "Romanticide"
    "Phantom Of The Opera"
"The Poet And The Pendulum" (please look up the meaning behind the lyrics to get the full impact of the song as it's performed live)
"Yours Is An Empty Hope" (When the chorus hits, you are hearing Floor doing the false fold growly parts while Marco sings the melody parts)
"The Greatest Show On Earth" (concept of the beginning and the evolution of life and humankind on Earth, including quotes from the writings of Richard Dawkins)
You'll be pleased to hear that many Nightwish songs have a life of their own, some of the longer ones even have "movements", and this is one of those bands that requires you to listen to many of their works to get the full scope of the experience. Ghost Love Score is often the first for many, but my first was an amazing song called "Stargazers", which is the first track of their 1998 release Oceanborn. This may not be the mix of music that many people are into, but you can't deny the impeccable musicianship and how amazing the writing is both musically and lyrically. Also, if you get hit with massive tingling and goosebumps while listening to her sing, that's been lovingly dubbed a "Floorgasm".
Your attention and reaction are so appreciated. Thank you!

I have watched many reactions to this song now. I must say one reason is because I love this band and especially this song and even more this most beautiful performance of it.
Also for me this song became something like a litmus test of the quality of how much I like the reacting person, or rather the quality of the reaction and the comment to the band members and the song.
I found the timing of your breaks quite well placed. They do not interfere with the flow of the song, which is important for me. I also found your reaction genuine and you had some good information and knowledge to share.
This one is surely in my Top 10 of reaction videos to this song.
