Hello Jeff Castanon [ Stratele Studios ] ! Nightwish fan here, your musical quest summoned me. Welcome BACK to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band! This song was performed in Wacken Open Air in 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of an 82K audience. About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners. Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory): " Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland...
... Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. [The 1st Bassist of the band was Sami Vanska, he was with them until 2001. The 2nd one was Marco Hietala, as Bassist and vocals, since 2001 to 2020. He recently announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us. Then very recently (May 2021) Jukka Koskinen became the 3nd Bassist of the band, for at least the Human :II: Nature tour] And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition. Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her. There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps. I want to welcome you to the Nightwish community. I hope you like them enough to continue the journey. Believe me Nightwish will surprise you with their songs. You will never know what to expect. They are unbelievable live. I want to warn you that Nightwish fans are hard core. So be prepared. lol " Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs with links with the current lineup of the band you may like. Please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and NOT as something mandatory: "Storytime" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) th-cam.com/video/pvkYwOJZONU/w-d-xo.html "Romanticide" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) th-cam.com/video/zz_7OCCQlXs/w-d-xo.html "Ever Dream" live at Wacken 2013 (uplifting vocals) th-cam.com/video/1Xi4n8dJcF8/w-d-xo.html "Song Of Myself" live at Wacken 2013 (dark/metal) th-cam.com/video/7xlyc16kLIs/w-d-xo.html "I Want My Tears Back" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (celtic / folk vibe) th-cam.com/video/TBOdgxjb0kM/w-d-xo.html "Dead Boy's Poem" - live Buenos Aires 2018 (soulful ballad) th-cam.com/video/S8E3L7ggLMM/w-d-xo.html "Ghost River" live at Wacken 2013 (metal) th-cam.com/video/yT7jPHrTFZU/w-d-xo.html "Dark Chest Of Wonders" live at Wacken 2013 (metal, the greatest show opener ever) th-cam.com/video/mzcy3a9q8_0/w-d-xo.html "My Walden" live at Wembley 2015 (celtic / folk) th-cam.com/video/knqeI807ZlY/w-d-xo.html "Sleeping Sun" live at Vizovice Masters of Rock festival 2016 (ballad) th-cam.com/video/pVPTUEW1PEM/w-d-xo.html "The Islander" live at Tampere 2015 (Marco in charge..) th-cam.com/video/Zo8ncK_5kzc/w-d-xo.html "Stargazer" live at Tampere 2015 (operatic vocals / metal) th-cam.com/video/NhEuAPYm_Ug/w-d-xo.html "Alpenglow" live at Wembley 2015 (uplifting / metal) th-cam.com/video/FrJvKZNEh7g/w-d-xo.html "Sahara" live at Tampa 2016 (middle eastern vibe) th-cam.com/video/lTvYfLa4Wlk/w-d-xo.html "Slaying The Dreamer" live at Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) th-cam.com/video/wA44tjaP5n0/w-d-xo.html "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean" live In Buenos Aires 2018 (metal) th-cam.com/video/t26r_vAYQ0Q/w-d-xo.html "Weak Fantasy" live at Tampere 2015 (dark metal) th-cam.com/video/AN239Pbqbjo/w-d-xo.html "7 Days To The Wolves" live at Wembley 2015 (dark metal) th-cam.com/video/XvsfwAPbWXc/w-d-xo.html And if you want to be surprised by Floor's vocals :) then try "Yours Is An Empty Hope" live at Mexico City in 2015 th-cam.com/video/DuwY1d-KIss/w-d-xo.html "The Poet And The Pendulum" [Wembley Arena 2015] th-cam.com/video/N4Vfy5yCy-c/w-d-xo.html - for this one (The Poet.. ) I strongly recommend you to do some research, since is a deep emotional and meaningful song, for both the band and the fans. You'll not be disappointed :) @Nightwish Arena: Since most of the reactors end up doing a lot of reactions from Wacken 2013 concert, they should be warned that there are a lot of slowed down and even high pitched versions of this concert, so it is better to use only official videos or videos from this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLexzLA11Cst1G4E0D61rAnWvnDF4zIz8M.html Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..)
The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. Absolutely, stunningly informative and brilliant comment, my friend. Thank you for consolidating all of this information for me to reference going forward. I know this band has a rich history and it's very interesting to follow how they got here. Thanks for taking the time send me this, my brother.
@@fmtpulmanns7593 It is about the talent that seems to be just coming to him like from some divine external source, I think that is the connection to Mozart. It is pretty insane how creative Tuomas has stayed for over 25 years now!
Floor does not need autotune. Another reactor who is a sound engineer has checked for that and he concluded that there is no autotune or any other digital tricks used. What you hear, is what she produces 🙂
He's got a fantastic channel, it's great to see the genuinely great singers don't need autotune / pro tools. His software proves it beyond doubt, and shows up some very surprising results from other singers.....
Jo and Richard are so right. .and I enjoy Fil also and what he's been doing lately.on Wings of Pegasus. heard NW in concert 2 weeks ago. my 3rd time. Floor is so brilliant
When it comes to technical ability as a vocalist, Floor is pretty much the gold standard. I love watching vocal coaches standing in awe of what she does. Floor with Nightwish is the perfect storm.
As you know, it gets harder and harder to find music that excites and surprises if you’ve been doing music for so many years. It’s great when you’re lucky enough to stumble across golden nuggets like this! 😃🎉💥🎊
Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power of her vocals. We give thanks for her at our Blots regularly and hope that Odhinn won't notice that she has never returned to Asgard. ALL HAIL THE VALKYRIE GODDESS!!! The Nightwish Army is incoming! Nightwish Army Central Florida Black Company reporting for duty!
Marco is just an absolute diamond and there is no replacing him. I hope he is able to find peace and solitude in his life away from music. He’s an epic bass player but he’s just on another level as a singer. So versatile. He will be missed.
You're absolutely right. Floor has power, presence, personality and incredible versatility. She has the skill to switch between vocal styles within one sentence and even one word. From growls to full on classical, she can do it all. If you'd like a short video on our Valkyrie Queen, I can't think of a better one than the well-known Rock Academy Reunion video. A great introduction to Floor and it's English subbed! It was shot for Dutch tv, right before, during and after the legendary Tampere gig where Floor's parents were present in the audience. Enjoy: Floor Jansen in Dutch show Reunion (Tampere 2015) th-cam.com/video/zRqqma4kWIg/w-d-xo.html Cheers from Amsterdam! BTW: Tuomas (Too-Oh-mas) on keys is called the "Metal Mozart". He's the brilliant composer of it all.
"This guy. On the bass..." (with the strong beard game) is Marko Hietala (pron: HEE-ah-Tallah), a classically trained guitarist, bassist, songwriter and incredible vocalist both solo and in harmony. You will hear his voice more should you journey down the Nightwish path! Greetings from Nightwish Army, Palm Springs, CA, USA!
Glad you checked out this one. Really shows off Floor's versatility."Storytime" from the same gig would be another great but less progressive song to have a look at.
You, sir, are correct in saying there is no pitch correction happening with her. Her vocals have been run through digital analysis and it shows that it's a natural voice, with minor imperfections that are nearly, and often completely, undetectable to the human ear. Ever so slightly flat here, a tiny bit sharp there, but will sounds basically pitch perfect. She's put a LOT of work into her craft, and we get to enjoy the fruits of her labour. Even when she's ill, and really struggling, she manages to stay on key, which is more than some singers can say on their best day.
The pipes are based on The Sibelius (finnisch violist, composer) Monument, resembling organ pipes, is made of welded steel with over 600 pipes and with the bust of the composer on one side. The monument is one of Helsinki's (capital of Finland, homebase of nightwish) most popular statues and one of the most well-known tourist attractions.
As good as this performance is, seeing them LIVE is on an entirely different level. I was so fortunate to catch them on their North American tour recently. The camaraderie and talent was on full display. Top 5 highlight of my 60 years of existence hands down. Thank you sir for helping keep the memory alive.
To answer your question the bands composer/lyricist is the keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen, including the backing tracks. Fans call him the "metal Mozart". When he refers to himself in lyrics, he's "The Poet". Or "the dead boy" depending.
Our beloved Valkyrie Goddess of Metal and Empathy is a Dutch 6.1 woman. Tuomas aka the Metal Mozart.( band leader, composer, songwriter, keyboarder ) Emmpu is the Electric Hobbit. Marko is the Viking Jukka is the Pirate Troy aka the Bard (not in this song ) Hail Nightwish 😇😇😇😇😇
Great reaction. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a spinto soprano with a range of around four octaves. Floor joined her first band (After Forever) at the very young age of 16. She also attended the Rock Academie in the Netherlands and studied opera and musical theater after that. Floor has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several Master vocal coaches (She is also a certified Master vocal coach). Floor can sing in multiple languages, styles and genres. She often refers to herself as a vocal nerd. This Valkyrie goddess is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to Nightwish. The Band hired her in 2012 as a temporary replacement for their previous vocalist Anette Olson (2nd vocalist hired after the original Tarja) to finish out the North American tour. In 2013 Nightwish officially announced that Floor and multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Troy Donockley are now permanent members of the band. Welcome to the Nightwish rabbit hole. Nightwish Army U.S.A. 🇺🇸 🤘🏽🔥 ( Urban Operators ) in the house.
I saw them in May in NYC and they were terrific. Ghost Love Score then and now has the same feel from 9 years ago, even though they gave a different drummer and a different bass player. Can't wait for the next US tour. You probably already know this but Floor is married to Sabaton drummer Hannes Van Dahl. They met on tour.
Hello Jeff Castanon. Nightwish Army reporting from the Netherlands. Welcome to the wonderful world of Nightwish. They are from Finland. And they make Symphonic Metal. What you've heard here is just the tip of what this band can do. Nightwish really hits you in your heart. And that's what makes this band so unique. Her name is Floor Jansen and she is Dutch. There were 82,000 people there. I happily refer you to Gabriel Bardac's comment (he'll be here soon) for a list with lots of song suggestion. Watch out for the Nightwish Army.
The interlude is a backing track with the London Philharmonic. Tuomas (keys) does almost all of the music and lyrics for Nightwish. Marko (bassist) also adds some to the music writing. Hope to see you again very soon my friend. Peace.
The guy on the bass is Marko. If you want to see him in full bloom, you should check out "The Islander - Live at Tempere" where he does a song on his own while the other band members take a break. I promise you will not regret that viewing.
Oh yes ....you listened to the masses .....this is going to be GOOOOOOODDDDD!!! Yea , Floor doesnt need any help with her voice in live performances.....shes one of the few singers out there who actually sounds better live .
you can feel the energy everytime this band is on stage. presence dialed up to 11. you can see and feel that they have so much fun, appreciate their fans, on top of the phenomenal performance. for me especially floor is such a positive presence. she always makes me smile when she's performing.
The music including the orchestral parts, and lyrics was written by the keyboard player, band leader, and all round genius Tuomas Holopainen. "The Metal Mozart"
@@StrateleStudios it's (more or less) pronounced "TOO-oh-mas". There's somewhere on TH-cam a small video with the pronunciation of ALL Nightwish members (past and present) if you want to learn them the right way. 👋🇮🇹🖖
Tuomas Holopainen - the keyboard player - writes all music and lyrics. The orchestral backing tracks were arranged by Pip Williams and performed by the Looking Glass Orchestra, part of the London Symphony Orchestra.
Excellent reaction 👍 And yes Floor is one of a kind - just like Tuomas, Emppu, Kai, Troy and Jukka. They are by far the greatest Symphonic Metal band ever - with the greatest storyteller in front Yes - pitch correction, autotune etc - it would kill Floor's ability to color and change her singing on the spot - and she does that - adjust to the audience..
Ghost Love Score Was The Very First Nightwish Song i Ever Heard in My Life ! i Was Absolutely Hooked & Now I'm a Nightwish Disciple Forever From Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🏄♂️🏖😝
Once in a while my playlist shows this performance, usually nowadays as a reaction vid. I just can’t help but click on it and take 20 minutes to enjoy the feck out of it. Every. Damn. Time.
So ,....the Spell is cast .... Ultimate Floorgasm !!!! The Guys : Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish) Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics. He also composes the music for the backing track they use. It is recorded in London with musicians from The London Philharmonics. Pip Williams helps with the orchestration. There are two London based choirs too on the backing track, the other one is a children's choir. And of course with a synth you can do a lot. Marko Hietala "The Viking" is a Finnish heavy metal vocalist, bassist and songwriter (sadly not part of the band now, but there is hope, that he will come back). Internationally, best known as the former bassist, male vocalist and secondary composer to Tuomas Holopainen, of the symphonic metal band Nightwish. He was also the vocalist and bassist as well as composer and lyricist for the heavy metal band Tarot. He was also a member of the super-group Northern Kings, and portrayed one of the main characters in Ayreon's 2013 album The Theory of Everything. Emppu Vuorinen the Electric Hobbit and trickster (Finnish guitarist, most famous for being a founding member of Nightwish and occasional songwriter). Vuorinen is primarily a rhythm player, often supporting the keyboard or orchestral parts of Nightwish songs. However, he plays lead melodies and solos as well. Vuorinen's solo techniques usually include alternate picking, tapping, sliding, legato, and minor to extreme whammy bar use; he also employs sweep picking, although very rarely. His solos are more melodic than those of most metal bands, but he sometimes shreds....NIGHTWISH - Romanticide (OFFICIAL LIVE VIDEO) !!!!! Jukka "The Pirate" Nevalainen is the former drummer in the Finnish symphonic metal band Nightwish (left for health reasons, but is still a member behind the scenes). He Is famous among Nightwish fans for wearing a bandana on his head, even during shows, his energetic drumming style, and for his spinning of his drumsticks. Joined Nightwish at the age of 17. AND THERE IS ONE MORE..... Let's see haw far and how long can you go ..... NWSU 🤘😎🤘.
Aurora and Floor Jansen. There is nothing better. Because you mentioned the look of the band. We have the Valkyrie Goddess Floor. We have the Viking Marko. We have the pirat Jukka. We have the Hobbit Emppu. We have the Bart Troy. And we have the Metal Mozard Tuomas. Everything sounds like fresh from the fairy tale / fantasy book. 😁
Tuomas Holopainen is the man behind the music, lyrics and the feeling. It is his pain and life that¨s reflected in the music. I´m old and gray but this is my musc
Tuomas Holopainen is perhaps THE artistic composer / arranger / lyricist of our time. His is the guiding hand behind the performances of Nightwish. Nightwish does not merely play songs. They present you with artistic masterpieces and without explanation. Tuomas has said that it's up to you to figure it out. The beauty of Tuomas' genius is that it is unconstrained. He goes where his muse and his soul leads him. This leaves some behind, but that is to be expected. The entire album of Human :||: Nature for example - both CDs - is a masterpiece, and Tuomas stands easily in the company of modern composers like Sibelius and Nielsen, Ralph Vaughn Williams and Karl Orff, Hans Zimmer and Thomas Bergersen. The second CD of Human :||: Nature in particular is breathtaking and at times exquisitely, heartbreakingly beautiful. For real insight into Tuomas Holopainen and Nightwish, listen to the Buenos Aires performance of Dead Boys Poem. Then listen to the Tampere performance of The Greatest Show on Earth. No one else writes and performs like this No one.
Thanks, Jeff. These are the intro time signatures, per bar: [6/8, 6/8, 5/8, 6/8] (played 6 times) , then [4/4, 4/4, 3/4, 4/4] (played 4 times), then steady 4/4 for the vocal entry.
@@StrateleStudios This genre of Metal has a few bands that like the proggy side. The Dutch band Epica is considered NW's heavier sibling. Also fronted by a Soprano.
It is so nice when you use the bigger part of the screen for the band and the smaller part for you, as the reactor. Thank you for that! 👍 Too many reactors sets them self in the big screen and leaves a tiny, tiny screen for the one they reacts to. I close those reactions pretty fast...
Throughly enjoyed your reaction! 🤘❤🤘 Tarja was Nightwish's original singer and co-founder, Annette was Nightwish's second singer and Floor is their third and current singer. 😁 But technically... Nightwish had 5 singers. On September 28th, 2012 a very pregnant Annette fell ill and was hospitalized. Rather than cancel the concert, Tuomas went to opening band Kamelot and asked their two backing vocalists if they would stand in for Annette and sing Nightwish's song. Elize Ryd and Alissa White-Gluz both said yes. With lyrics in hand, both ladies joined Nightwish on stage, and put on a kick ass show!!! We were there. So, for one night, Elize & Alissa were Nightwish singers.
@@StrateleStudios Hey Jeff, Tuomas on keys is the composer ,writes 95% of lyrics and music, he composes the symphonic elements with the London Philharmonic, as far as Floor's vocal abilities ,my friend this was but a teeny tiny example, every song from this concert is standard setting and a seminal event, her Beste Zangers 2019 performance was a pivotal event for herself and Nightwish, her TH-cam covers are mind blowing , her previous 2 bands AfterForever & ReVamp shows her talent was evident even then and the road to NW was inevitable, cheers and great reaction! Yes. This was shortly before Anette and Nightwish went separate ways. Then they called Floor… and the rest is history - you need to watch the documentary „Please learn the setllist in 48 hours“.
Great comments as always!!!! I love your appreciation for music as a whole, production, skill, technicality, and showmanship! Your reactions when you hear a part you like is so genuine. That’s what I love about you!
Glad you enjoyed Nightwish! I had the pleasure of seeing them play this live recently, along with Greatest Show on Earth which is even longer. Sadly the drummer (Jukka) and bassist (Marco) you see at Wacken are no longer in the band but they still sounded fantastic. Floor's stage presence is unbelievable.
At Wacken 2013 GLS, Floor was the ultimate seductress, capturing hearts and souls. The Valkyrie magic leads to inescapable adoration for Floor, which draws her devotees into the whole Nightwish journey from Tarja, through Anette to Floor herself. Your ‘advantage’ was having prior knowledge of Nightwish , you refer to Wishmaster, you refer to the overall brilliance of the band as a whole. I’m sure you can understand the impact of this particular performance on someone , like me, totally new to Nightwish, but now addicted.
Floor is probably the best fit for Nightwish now. Tarja sang the songs in a very operatic style, then Annette was more pop and struggled to perform Tarja's songs and now Floor sings everything written for them plus she has given Tuomas chance to stretch his compositions and her vocals. I believe the tenth album is on it's way. And of course Floor has released one single "Fire" and a second coming out on Friday called "Storm". Can't wait.
Greetings, Stratele Studios! Nightwish Army Nebraska checking in. Great reaction. Welcome to the world of Nightwish and our Goddess Floor. It was fun watching you have a Floorgasm. Please follow the list that Gabriel left you and you will find a wealth of information and great performances. I look forward to seeing more Nightwish reactions. Enjoy the wonderful journey you have begun.
Oh man, Aurora, Snarky puppy, now Nightwish... This is quickly becoming my favorite channel on youtube. Insightful commentary on great music, I don't know what more I could ask!
Just saw them recently at the Fillmore Silver Spring. They were so good and Floor was about as awesome as you can get. Emppu is my favorite. He is amazing with his guitar work.
Hello! I have been watching your reactions and I realised that you enjoy when the whole concert is phenomenal. So I recommend very good concert for you. NIghtwish at Hartwall Areena, Helsinki october 2005 , called End of an Era. It is Tarjas last show although she didn't know it then. It is really worth to watch and hear. Sincerely yours Kaisa from Finland...kiitos =thank you
Nightwish Army - UK Division reporting for duty - subbed to enjoy this journey with you sir, keep up the great work, you have so much to discover, the surface is yet to be scratched ;)
This iteration of the band was probably performance wise the best. Floor had been fronting bands since her teens and was now comfortable with the band and so could augment that and so could the others play off of her. The thing about Floor that most people miss is she is very good at focus control. Because she can dominate the stage when she chooses she is very good at letting that focus shift when she wants to. Much like her singing she allows her performance to highlight the music while controlling it. But something has to be said about the crew also. They absolutely mesh with the band as well.
Only few other bands have done this before Nightwish. But they are gold standard for symphonic Metal. I love this review because you are already familiar with Floor but not the band. Floor usually (and rightfully) steals the show, So you focusing on the other members is AWESOME! They are all very talented. Toumas is the keyboardist and wrote like 90% of the music. Marco is the bassist and he is supertalented. I would recommend to try "Phantom of the Opera" from the End of the Era concert. It features their original singer, Tarja, who is awesome in her own right, though not the vocal beast like Floor, but without her there would not be Floor. but the best part of this suggestion that it shows Marco off in the best possible way.
I would recommend you watch Floor doing Phantom of the Opera on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers. She performs with one of her idols Henk Poort. He played the phantom in the Dutch version of the show. This will show your Floors real vocal range.
🤩👍💥💯 "Hey, Hey, Hey, Heey" (= some of her arm movement) = Proper crowd control moment captured. Indeed they are tight AF on stage. Whether it's a smaller venue for few hundred people or huge set up for tens of thousands in the audience. Really cool reaction män. Keep on rockin with this magical band. Cheers from Finland 🇫🇮 🥶 💯 💙
Thank you for the reaction. I love this band, and even hearing this song m a n y times, it still gets me 💛❤ Tuomas is the genius behind the lyrics and "this guy" we all love, is Marko. Who btw has killer vocals too. You will see .. maybe in next song you react too. Subbed! 😊 And greetings from Finland 💙🤍
Great reaction! I know why you say Jukka(drummer) looks like he's riding a Harley... As we have a low rider Jukka sits very low to his kit. Go back and look at the angle his legs are sitting. That was one of the first things I noticed. I've been around bands my whole life. My husband is a bassist. And our family run lights and sound at shows here in our city. My husband and son just did some work at The WHO show here a few weeks ago. Drummers normally sit much higher than Jukka. Anyway, I love your reactions so far. I just found you and watched 4 so far. Keep up the great work. 💕
Appreciate the reaction. I have no musical literacy at all - when I first saw this, almost by accident, I knew it was special but couldn't express *why*. Now I know better because of the input of expert/industry voices. Yes "that guy" on the bass (Marko Hietala) has a great look. Just wait until you find out what else he brings to the table....! =)
Nightwish Army Texas Division reporting in. Always glad to find a new YT reactor through Nightwish. Subbed so I learn your perspectives about NW or other artists on your channel.
Nightwish Army USA (Pa) division saying thanks for checking this song out after your Floor "Shallow" cover . Our General Gabriel Bardac left you band info and a fantastic set of links of help guide your journey down the Nightwish rabbit hole . Looking forward to your next one it should be "Storytime" same show Wacken Open Air Festival 2013 . on this night they were the headliner in front of 82K people
Ayyyyy great choise man! The bass player Marko can sing too. You should definitely check out their take on The Phantom of Opera from 2005 with their original singer Tarja Turunen. It’s an awesome rock opera duet between Tarja and Marko! Love from Finland!
I'm so glad you did this video. I like your reactions even more now ;) Just pick from Gabriel's list, he is the general of the Nightwish Army now. It is an army of love, not hate. A lot of us also adore Aurora so maybe it is an army of warriors for love
Awesome isn’t it! Your smiling face, for the whole song told the story! 😊 🤘 Every member of Nightwish is a talented musician and brings their own unique passion to the band.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the [updated] short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer.
So be prepared. lol "
Hoping you'll continue this journey with us, I'll drop here a list of songs with links with the current lineup of the band you may like. Please consider this list of links only as "a tip of the iceberg", an indication that they have a vast and very diverse repertoire, and NOT as something mandatory:

@Nightwish Arena: Since most of the reactors end up doing a lot of reactions from Wacken 2013 concert, they should be warned that there are a lot of slowed down and even high pitched versions of this concert, so it is better to use only official videos or videos from this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLexzLA11Cst1G4E0D61rAnWvnDF4zIz8M.html
Last but not the least - they released their 9th studio album on April 10th 2020 named "Human :||: Nature" - just take a peek to their official playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLihZ3gi5Yvzc0pfH2cbNKUUX8o3pb8eVg.html (for example: "Shoemaker", the 3rd track from this album, tells the story of Eugene Shoemaker, one of the founders of planetary science, whose ash was sent on the Moon after his death, as a tribute from the scientific community ..)
The links presented above are with the current singer of the band, Floor Jansen, since I'm a fan of the recent era of the band, with Floor as the singer. That being said, I will add here the messages left the other days by some old fans of the band.
@Fabrizio Gorla: To be fair to the old fanbase, you may want to include also some of these songs.

Absolutely, stunningly informative and brilliant comment, my friend. Thank you for consolidating all of this information for me to reference going forward. I know this band has a rich history and it's very interesting to follow how they got here. Thanks for taking the time send me this, my brother.
The keyboard player is the genius behind most of the songs. He isn’t called the metal Mozart for nothing.
I never really got that nickname other than for the alliteration. They're more Wagnerian than Wagner ffs. He should be the Metal Wagner.
@@fmtpulmanns7593 I totally understand and agree it is more epic than Mozart but I think it's more the level of genius.

Floor with Nightwish is the perfect storm.
its a Master Piece
its SO, So much fun to watch another professional get swept up in the magic this group produces..
As you know, it gets harder and harder to find music that excites and surprises if you’ve been doing music for so many years. It’s great when you’re lucky enough to stumble across golden nuggets like this! 😃🎉💥🎊
Originally Floor was sent by Allfather Odhinn to Midgard to gather the souls of fallen warriors to Valhalla, but she
got distracted and joined a series of bands. However, Floor still gathers souls by her grace, beauty and the sheer power
of her vocals.
Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) our metal Mozart writes and composes songs. He's so talented person and I love his music what he does ❤🤘
You'll like bassist Marco even more when you hear him sing...The Islander, Kiss while your Lips are still Red, High Hopes, The Phantom of the Opera
Not to forget their rendition of/tribute to Pink Floyd's High Hopes. There you also get to see more of Empuu's guitar wizardy
If he liked Marco playing, image when he listen him singing haha
I'd also listen to essentially his last song with Nightwish - Endlessness. Singing sounds flawless as always :)
Marco is just an absolute diamond and there is no replacing him. I hope he is able to find peace and solitude in his life away from music. He’s an epic bass player but he’s just on another level as a singer. So versatile. He will be missed.
@@climber950 I heard a rumor he may be ready to return in the future...I'd feel for the new Jukka but....

Yes, Floor's appearance is the most captivating one. Everyone wants to look at her. It's really special! ⛄💗👸
Thansk a lot, welcome to Nightwish
His name is Tuomas Holopainen and he is a freaking genius!!!
Where was this run through an analysis? I'd be curious to watch that if you could post the name? :)

To answer your question the bands composer/lyricist is the keyboardist, Tuomas Holopainen, including the backing tracks. Fans call him the "metal Mozart". When he refers to himself in lyrics, he's "The Poet". Or "the dead boy" depending.
Yep, poet indeed and boy or "one with a pure heart", which is the same thing really, writer/song writer, dreamer and ocean soul.

The guy on the bass is Marko. If you want to see him in full bloom, you should check out "The Islander - Live at Tempere" where he does a song on his own while the other band members take a break. I promise you will not regret that viewing.

The Guys :
Our Metal Mozart Tuomas Holopainen (founder, leader, keyboardist, songwriter and the main composer for Nightwish)
Tuomas the keyboardist writes about 95% of Nightwish songs, music and lyrics.

Thank you so much Shawn!
Wow! Great story thanks for sharing this! 👏
So... That makes seven vocalusts then, technically, since Marko and Troy must be include too... 😉

Nightwish has made so much good music, this is just one of many good tracks 🙂
Floor is probably the best fit for Nightwish now. Tarja sang the songs in a very operatic style, then Annette was more pop and struggled to perform Tarja's songs and now Floor sings everything written for them plus she has given Tuomas chance to stretch his compositions and her vocals. I believe the tenth album is on it's way. And of course Floor has released one single "Fire" and a second coming out on Friday called "Storm". Can't wait.
Just saw them in Chicago a few weeks ago. They killed this song that night. Floor is an amazing vocal athlete.

From Soprano to Gutural....she can do all what you want
A Jewel for humanity
This iteration of the band was probably performance wise the best. Floor had been fronting bands since her teens and was now comfortable with the band and so could augment that and so could the others play off of her. The thing about Floor that most people miss is she is very good at focus control. Because she can dominate the stage when she chooses she is very good at letting that focus shift when she wants to. Much like her singing she allows her performance to highlight the music while controlling it.
But something has to be said about the crew also. They absolutely mesh with the band as well.
More Nightwish, please!
You got it!
It’s my favorite song sung by Marco. Closely followed with the Islander and while your lips are still red. He’s so powerful and versatile of a singer.
I would recommend you watch Floor doing Phantom of the Opera on the Dutch TV show Beste Zangers. She performs with one of her idols Henk Poort. He played the phantom in the Dutch version of the show. This will show your Floors real vocal range.
