You can also use Mobiflight to map the FSB G1000 units as I've done for G3000 equipped aircraft. I then use Spacedesk and an iPad for the GTC controller units.
It's a great piece of kit and turning knobs is far better than trying to hover the mouse over a button and turn it as the mouse drifts. I also have just the one that I use as my PFD and hopefully oneday will buy a second to use as my MFD. A real treat when doing IFR and if you go deep enough and need to tune radios and nav radios.
I have a triple screen and thus can literally only get one of the other. I'm thinking mfd is more important than pfd, as I feel manipulating that is done more. Would you agree/disagree?
I have been considering this product because of the lowest entry point in the g1000 market. They have a great Facebook group to see others setups. For the price, it is very tempting to dip your toes into a decent avionics setup.
Agreed. One thing I forgot to mention in the video, is that by using the hardware bezel G1000 you don't take the "focus" away when you use a touch screen with Air Manager. That is really helpful.
Would love a follow up video on using this g1000 unit with air manager steam gauges. If knobs can be remapped through SPAD, I may not need a touchscreen replacement. Is this unit a 1:1 scale of a real g1000? If so, aviatek offers a very expensive g1000 with a touch screen option which may mean there is a 1024 x 768 touch monitor out there that could be swapped out.
Will definitely put one out. I just received the second one, and I am waiting on the audio panel. Here is what I can tell you so far. It's great on the G1000 stuff. Seriously awesome. For air manager panels, it's just okay. The resolution along with small screen size, doesn't give you a lot of real estate. Not having touch screen means no real use for the knobster. I just use the mouse pointer and scroll wheel. What I have actually done is reintegrate my Logitech panels/FIPs and use the small screen only for gauges. Once I get that audio panel, I will try to get something up fast.
@@IvanSkyFlight you could use SPAD and assign rotaries and buttons to craft that don’t use g1000 and not need to use touch. I accept the trade off of size for versatility. I can’t see myself using huge monitors on my rig for gauges, but I bet that monitor is swappable with a touch. someone already built some flightsimbuider profiles in SPAD that you could clone and tweak. You might be surprised. If I can find a mounting solution for my sim rig I may just buy it.
Hi Ivan! Great video. I’ve been meaning to ask you if I can buy a touch screen instead and use Air Manager under DX12? I ask this as my sim crashes every time I try to pop out a GPS on DX12.
I have been running DX12 for over a year. Haven't had any issues with it. Not sure why the sim is crashing, but you will need to get that figured out, because some Air Manager panels require it. Most of the steam gauge setups don't. Just did a quick search, and it seems you are not alone. I don't seem to be able to find a fix.
Thank you! Watching now. Hoping a touch monitor can be installed so it can be used with air manager. Wonder if knobs are standard and could be upgraded.
I would love to have a touch version of this. There is one, but it's out of my price range. Good question about the knobs. It's the area where this unit doesn't feel "premium". Time will tell how robust it will be.
Hi Ivan, is it possible to have 1 pc running the visual 3 TVs plus the MSFS , while another pc running the Flight sim builder and a small monitor while playing MSFS. will they communicate or ?????
Right now, I don't think they would. The issue would be the pop out display screens, that as of now, are not transmitted over your intranet to another computer. Now, it is my understanding that XPlane is now doing just that. You can run some third party apps for iPad that will take AHRS data and run on their emulated G1000s, but the problem with those apps is that they don't communicate navigation (magenta line) stuff to the simulator. That was the case the last time I checked. Please update me if that is not correct.

My next learning project should be Mobiflight. I have also picked up another controller and would love to have more precise control.

Agreed. I can't fly as much as I would like IRL because of the cost, so I want at least something to help with the muscle memory.

Be careful mine wouldn’t work one wouldn’t power up buttons not working on pfd really made sim run horrible
