      wood decaying mushrooms get their moisture from the core of the tree they are decomposing. rainfall doesn't really influence flushes of saprotrophs for this reason, since the moisture is stored in the core of the tree. mycorrhizal species rely on rainfall to fruit more so than saprotrophs.

      If you're looking to get into farming for profit, yeah, you're probably better off getting into the more gourmet and medicinal species. Buttons are pretty much the most common commercial mushroom in the world, and competing with the huge businesses already doing it is going to be hard.

      @Jamaa_Flani_mzii 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@otacon1024 in Kenya we don't have a major button mushroom farmer, we actually import our mushrooms from Rwanda but there's high demand for food grown in the country and mushrooms specifically, mushroom farming is still a fairly new thing here with most farmers growing on a small scale but still making good money cause of the high demand and low supply. The problem is a time is coming when the market will be saturated with button mushrooms but gourmet mushrooms are still on high demand with very few people producing them, i see this as a form of future proofing

    I have a question about your grow room. I have a AC infinity 60"x60"x80" tent (approx. 167 cubic feet)with LED lights, A fogger similar to your set up and and AC infinity Cloudline T6 6" inline ducted fan capable of moving 402 CFM. I have noticed that the lions mane I was growing outside of then were actually growing better than the ones I grew in the tent. The ones grown outside in the open room grew large and White and healthy but when I tried fruiting in the grow room, they would start out good but quickly turn brown and stop growing. I assume this is due to FAE but I have the fan running for twenty minutes every hour at full speed. Any more than that and my fogger has too run nonstop to keep my humidity in the 90% range. My fan is outside the ten creating a negative pressure system but it draws air through the fogger box so in theory it should be replacing the entire air volume 2.4 times each hour. I would think that would be plenty but my mushrooms say different. I have other varieties that do great in the grow room but the Lion's Mane just look brown and sad... any ideas?

    • @fattymcbastard6536
      @fattymcbastard6536 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like you should not be having any trouble. I wonder if condensation is forming on the fruit bodies, perhaps as the temperature drops overnight? They don't really like being wet, and any standing water on them may cause the expression of metabolites, which forms amber patches on the mushroom, and also improves the chances of infection.
      Also, what about those lights? Can you grow weed or tomatoes or peppers with those? If so, it's waaay too much light. Keep the light indirect, and if you have a light meter, aim for between just 500 and 1000 lux.

    Cool video… So is all lions mane mushroom ready to harvest at two weeks?
    I have a lions Maine that I exposed last week from a kit on Monday morning when it showed up, by UPS I opened up the box,
    to my surprise. The top of the block where the bag is sealed, was a pretty good size mushroom already, it was on a corner so I exposed it stood the block up since it was Already there and the only one…
    And now it’s pretty good size larger than a grapefruit, but it feels like three separate mushrooms lol and today has been a total of 10 days since it’s been growing and buy your video. I’m assuming 14 days Total of growth completion? The reason I’m asking is because I am 100% blind and finally grew a large mushroom without ruining it and trying to find when it is best to harvest?

    In Ontario Canada at least in this region Walmart and a few other grocery stores carry white oysters and shiitake. One store locally has enoki and king oysters. The prices are 3.75ish per pound. I don't know if small growers can compete with formaldehyde sprayed Chinese gourmet mushrooms. My gf and I want to start a small farm. She has health issues and one of our 4 boys has autism and adhd compound with a lot of behavioral issues. It makes employment next to impossible. We are sick of being on the system and want financial independence. What strains would you suggest could actually make growing worthwhile? I was thinking of doing lions mane and different oyster strains. Chicken of the wood would be a seller I bet. We live near Ottawa there is a large asian market there and many high end restaurants. We also are in the rural area between Ottawa and Kingston so there area lot of farmers markets. I am researching everything I can at the moment. Any advice you could give would be amazing

      @@derekdgarcia1 some have vivid dreams with them when taking them (if you choose to do that late in the evening before bed). I think I'm one of those people, so I may be able to relate there.
      [In my experience, the dreams are slight nightmares that I remember if I happen to get to sleep in the night. Not like I wake up screaming, but rather I'm like "ok, so that dream happened", and if I tell someone else the details, they end up laughing.]

      @00waterski00 I was taking both at the time, so I can't say no, although I could have had some fears of my own that caused them. Thing with reishi is that for some, it needs to be grown/cultivated the right way (high triterpenes or from spore oil) for some, or it may not have a calming/sleep effect ; instead it might have your mind race with a thought of what happened earlier in the day for most of the night.

    Hi, what would happen if a bag gets infected? Like could it make not edible mushrooms? And does the risk of contamination depends on the specie of mycelium?

    Very cool Mushroom Mike, I love your pragmatic ways and I learned a few things from watching your video. I'm at Stage1 Newbie and I just started growing my first set of oyster mushrooms 5 days ago and this morning they just pinned so another 6-7 days to go before my first harvest. However I totally want to grow some Lion's Mane. What's really cool is that I am getting my dad interested in growing mushrooms, once I get things figured out then I am going to go teach him what I've learned.

    I bought your lions mane block a month or so ago. It is perfect, growing & fruiting perfectly. Except.. this one was one of the few of your vids that I hadn't watched, so I didn't know that you maintain 3 strains of lions mane, and I didn't recognize the "he3" on my label... so I was watching for the "long shaggy teeth" to indicate harvest time, and they never grew, so I woke up one morning and my gorgeous white "young" pom-poms were suddenly golden tan. No problem really.. I'll catch the next flushes in time...

    If the lions mane grows more quickly when it’s top fruited and you get a higher yield, what’s the reason for deciding to side fruit some of them
