I was born and raised Mormon, I’m still active, and I want people to know that this is RIGHT. This is soul, this is family, this is God. This story is incredible and heartfelt. Eri’s situation is unique and I cannot even imagine how painful it is to be going through this. If she were my friend in the church, I would stick up for her right to be there or consider leaving if they rejected her. Major props to her father for being such a beautiful and adaptive person. Incredible parents and I would do the same for my child
Either you are not active or you literally don't pay attention AT ALL during church. Dallin H Oaks, "We live in a day when there are many political, legal, and social pressures for changes that confuse gender and homogenize the differences between men and women. Our eternal perspective sets us against changes that alter those separate duties and privileges of men and women that are essential to accomplish the great plan of happiness. "
"I would stick up for her right to be there or consider leaving if they rejected her." so have you left since you were informed of the quote from Dallin H Oaks, First Counselor of the First Presidency and the next Prophet of God (if he outlives Nelson)?
Eri and her family are beautiful on the inside and the outside. So strong, so mature, and so well spoken. We should all strive to be as accepting and understanding.
The fact that her grandmother pointed that out to her... gave me chills I can't imagine my family being ok w that. It's beautiful how much acceptance some people's family have
Looks like she left the church (assuming because on her IG account there are pics of her drinking alcohol), is teaching yoga and she’s married. Seems quite happy!
Although I am an atheist and abhor religion. I am proud of these parents for trying and really continuing to love their child no matter what. The only religion that is acceptable in my opinion is LOVE, no heaven, no hell, no dogma.
Rose Mathers Even if you think that being trans is okay, it still isn't normal most people are not trans, making it abnormal, making DaBeast's comment at least half true and Swashbuckling Swankster's comment half true.
Michelle K i have notice that most men have nice long beautiful lashes ( which is totally unfair ) and now that she is transitioning into a woman they will come in handy no fake lashes for her I am so jealous
I'm a parent of a transgender child, we're mormon, and I want you to know that your words DO help me. Thank you so much for sharing. I pray our kids can find love and acceptance.
@@nickdipaolofan5948 Because Latter-day saints believe that we were born spirits in life before earth, and after earth, we will be spirits. Whatever gender our spirit was born in is what we will be forever. Our bodies we have right now will return to their original form in the afterlife. The prophets have been wrong before, but this fact is something every single prophet has been teaching forever; it is incredibly unlikely that they are wrong about this.
I’m a Muslim who was raised in a small minded community, so the idea of a transgender was somewhat a diabolical thing to me. But after seeing so many people go through THIS just to be themselves, just to fit into this world, just to be happy with themselves really upsets me. Just be supportive of other people and let them be happy, their decisions do NOT affect you in any way so why not support them? If I had a child who is going through this, I would do anything to make sure that I see them happy by supporting them even if it goes against religion or not.
This is not someone "being themself", this is some experiencing some kind of issue and responding in the worst way possible. Instead of stepping up and confronting the problem he is giving up and allowing it to dictate who/what he is. This is not a matter of feelings/emotions, acceptance, or identity. This is an issue of mental health. You never tell someone with a disorder to accept it or do what feels right, because that's how suicide or homicide happens. There's a reason why we don't tell someone with depression that their death will solve everything or tell schizophrenics to listen to the voices. This is a dangerous game they are playing with other peoples' lives.
@@Jen-tt9yx THE majority who commit suicide is due to them: not passing and constantly misgendered. Or transphobia, what I said is actual facts, it's known in neou-studies.
@@xtrachewy It's not a voice in their head sweetie, it's nothing like that. Especially in studies that had proofed that for ex: a transgender woman has a brain/mindset of a woman's.
This is how it should be. An open and combinative daughter who is probably that way because of the unconditional love of her parents. She seems very happy, and comfortable in her skin now.
I'm amazed your grandmother was so helpful to you because Japanese culture is different. Your parents are so supportive. Don't let the church stop you from your religion. Shes beautiful.
Because people who feel strongly against it feel VERY strongly and usually people with very strong opinions blast them out to anyone who will listen. Which is apparently you.
Bonidee Lee she does have a disorder. That doesn’t make what she’s feeling invalid. She’s still a woman. That’s like telling someone with ADHD it isn’t valid.
I've been part of the church my entire life as well and I honestly agree that there is no room for any person on this planet to judge anyone from this family. This truly is between them and Heavenly Father because he loves us unconditionally and it's his decision what he does with his children ( us☺️).
That's jumping the gun, regardless - Scientific studies into Gender Dysphoria have concluded it isn't a mental illness, and considering the definition of gender is: "the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones)." You're the one in the wrong. Let me guess, you're a teenager with a very limited experience with the world, and thus parrot whatever you here of others, and never form your own opinion.
I think she's so pretty and I couldn't even tell she was biologically a man. Honestly, I think she's so cool and special and an inspiration for other trans people who might be watching.
Interesting how there is so much hate for Mormons when this video CLEARLY represents Mormon parents who are 100% accepting of their trans daughter. Anti-Mormons using this video as a platform to spit vile words against the entire Mormon community is disgusting. As a Mormon, I've met religious and non-religious alike who have almost brought me to tears because of their goodness. I have also met religious and non-religious people who have disgusted me with the way they can hate. Most people are somewhere in the middle, just normal people trying to live life the best they can. Religious or not, we all have sets of beliefs that guide what we think is right and most importantly the way we treat other people. Usually when someone's beliefs (remember, religious or not - we all have a set of beliefs) are challenged they resist rather than try and understand. I think it would be a great idea if we all try to understand each other, rather than shaking fingers at each other.
Your using the word, "most" is an assumption. I am LDS and so proud of my son and who he has become. Until people have gone through this, they really don't know what they would do.
Some of these comments are disgusting. Just love one another.. all this hate is so sad. edit: it seems like certain people wont stop arguing over whats right/wrong. tbh i dont give 2 shits. move on guys its kinda cringey watching you two.
shun People don't even take human emotion into account anymore, it just doesn't make sense to them. But when they go through something rough and difficult. They expect people to understand.
I was raised Mormon. It makes me SO grateful that there are practicing Mormons who are still progressive enough to understand their daughter's struggle and respect it! I don't believe in God or the Mormon religion, but if he is real, he won't care about your gender. it is very comforting to know that there are Mormons who are understanding and respectful. So amazing!
Most of us are respectful. We believe that your gender was your gender before coming to earth and important to your identity. However, we are very loving as understanding as well. In fact, most of my friends are in the lgbtq+ community.
Considering mormons aren't really supposed to accept anything that's different, like Eri's sitation, I give huge props to the parents for being so supportive.
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I am thrilled to watch this documentary because it shows how most of us love people for who they are, we love them because they are children of God. It is beautiful to see her parents loving her so much. God bless them
Mormonism is very conservative, yes, but I think a lot of Mormons also try to be chill and flexible and they love their kids a lot. When I had a girlfriend a few years back my mom told me she accepted me either way. It was hard for her to say it but she made a point of saying it which meant so, so much.
"Mormonism" isnt really the correct word to use, as Mormons are Christians that are members of The Church of Jesus Christ - Latter Day Saints... LDS is usually what people use. I was raised in the church.
The LDS church is an offshoot of Christianity and as all sects and offshoots practice Christianity differently, it is simply specific to say Mormonism. We're talking about the way Mormons practice their belief in Christianity, not just Christianity. There are many ways that people are Christian, some conservative, some liberal.

When I see before and after pictures of trans people it's weird because I struggle to see them as the same person. It's like "this person is clearly a woman, but this picture is of a boy????" (since my brain reads the pre-transition person in the picture as a boy) and it's confusing, haha ^^ It's even weirder when they look roughly the same (like if they haven't had a lot of facial surgery or anything so their features are roughly the same before and after) so it's kind of like looking at a picture of their opposite sex twin or something.
I wish I had parents who accepted me like that. Honestly I don't get why parents don't accept their kids. It's sad because it's gotten to the point to where I cry when I see parents who support their kids.
I wish that we knew more about them since this was shot. Her family were amazing people that supported her in the Mormon society that drips religion like sweat and are 100% unforgiving or understanding. So it was inspiring to hear the words of her father, as well as her intent to remain faithful to the religion she feels help give meaning to her life. It was a great video.

It makes me SO happy to hear how accepting and supportive her parents are! When I saw the title I was expecting a lot of bigotry. I'm usually not a fan of religion, to put it mildly, so it was really nice seeing how sweetly the dad spoke of his daughter :)
I enjoyed watching Eri’s story, I can see how much she loves Jesus and her family. She is blessed to have wonderful parents who accept her for who she is. She only needs to worry about God judging her, not anyone in a church. God bless you Eri and family 🥰❤️🙏🏻
I've been LDS my entire life (on and off with being active) with children and a variety of their own special circumstances. The core beliefs of our church include loving everyone as God loves all of us. Of course there will always be people in every community that aren't willing to adopt that belief, but please don't be surprised that most of us at least want to be kind to everyone.
Judy Moody well Mormons are like any other religion. Some are very invested in their religion and don't accept others that may be different from that, however there are a lot who are progressive and are very accepting.

one thing i dont really understand is why people think god is against gay people when the bible was written hundreds of years after jesus and not by jesus himself?
What I dont understand is why a bunch of religious people preach hate towards LGBTQ+ people when the Bible states that everyone sins and that it is human and that God loves everyone. Preach love, not hate. It's easy.
I pray that people will be accepting. I don't understand this, but I don't judge either. God wants us to love everyone. He is the only judge. Good luck!

Sorry about my bad English writing.

@@kristinh2517 Still a dude but ok.. Simple Biology cannot be broken by a pronoun.
@@kristinh2517 accuses someone else of being ignorant while she herself is pretending that a boy can change to a girl...........irony defined.
one thing i dont really understand is why people think god is against gay people when the bible was written hundreds of years after jesus and not by jesus himself?
What I dont understand is why a bunch of religious people preach hate towards LGBTQ+ people when the Bible states that everyone sins and that it is human and that God loves everyone. Preach love, not hate. It's easy.
um... Thats not quite how it works. the bible isn't just Jesus' words. there is an old testament which is records of things before Jesus.
The LGBT religion teaches my kids in public schools.

I pray that people will be accepting. I don't understand this, but I don't judge either. God wants us to love everyone. He is the only judge. Good luck!
Plantfriendly Yes!!❤

I wish more religious people were like this. Thank you.
So true ❤ people are free to do whatever they want to their body and we don't have the right to judge we can just be accepting and loving
Plantfriendly that was well said, you are a kind religious person!💜
I am a transgender woman myself. I understand Eri so well. I for years could not live with that "thing" between my legs. I went to Thailand and I finally go rid of it in 2011. Such a wonderful dad. An example of what unconditional love is. A;; the best Eri
Good for you ❤

@@sotsu618 I'm sorry, just know that you won't be a child forever. Soon you'll be an adult and free to do whatever you want.
