Brit doo wop at its best... a great band...totally underestimated watch out for a typically manic performance from bass singer...Den Hegarty Circa 1977
Despite their showbiz chops and the clowning, they always struck me as being a bit grittier and more rock 'n' roll than fellow revivalists Showaddywaddy.
😂 The first time I've heard Darts being a musical influence 😂 No Beatles, Stones, Eric Clapton,Bob Dylan, The Band,Pink Floyd,or even jjcale. But darts had it all 😂😂😂
The first ever concert/gig I ever went to in 78 with my dad at Leicester Demontfort University and was the greatest experience I’d had in my then young life. Particularly recall an a cappella song that blew me away. Great live band
I remember thousands of years ago, I and my friends jammed into a tiny record store on Fulton Street near bond in Downtown Brooklyn in 1957 looking for Silhouettes by the Ray's which was top the charts and the owner reached over and put on the flip side (mistake?) and we were mmediately all blown away....amazing memories....
Had a laugh with God with this track, and snooker Jane got the beeps from the cars , striding down Newmarket road , Cambridge , over 35 years ago. Ha ha. Can't wait. ♥️♥️ Den heggerty was a complete nutter . Ha ha .That fall wasn't planed.
I've got my tickets booked for DARTS - Sat 12 July, The 100 Club, Oxford St, LONDON. DARTS tickets were all sold out before both 100 Club gigs last Nov/Dec. Book now to avoid disappointment. If you can't get a ticket, then catch them the day later at the Americana Festival nr Notts. DARTS are closing the show. Last year DARTS hung around after the gig to sign autographs and have photo's taken. That's one reason why we still love 'em. Yes, Mad Den is still as crazy as ever!!!
First group I saw live, Sheffield City Hall, 1979 I think and I missed Rita Ray's cheek when she came out after the gig, I was 14 and didn't wash my face for a few days!
Den Hegarty could be Hugh Grant's evil twin who escaped from a lunatic asylum. Funnily enough, his Wiki page has him down as a "lecturer in psychology at Exeter College and with the Open University." P.S. I always got his name mixed up with Dan Haggerty, the American actor who played Grizzly Adams.
I remember that big Fool in the silver suite jumped off a piano during a gig and broke his leg 🦵😂😂 the fool He got replaced by the big black fella who sang Duke of earl 💯🥁 Google it,as I hate them
That was Den Hegarty. He actually left the band to go an live with his dad who was seriously ill. He was replaced by American Kenny Andrews, who could sing bass better than Hegarty, but he didn't have 1/10 of his stage presence and didn't do comedy vocals either.
Looking for a girl I use to know back in 1979 her name was Debbie and she lived in Blaby Leicestershire.....never new her last name... her Dad was Colin he was a lorry driver worked for Coates of Leicester and she also had a Brother..... my name his ( rubbish think ) Pete from Kettering I use to ride my motorbike over to see her on Sunday afternoon afternoon... but I let her down badly and I want to say sorry for what I did and ask her if she could forgive me....believe me I truly sorry.....so if anyone knows her please let her know Thanks.......👍🇬🇧🤓
I don't know her or her dad but total respect to you for having such a good heart I hope you find her or she finds you you were young we all did stupid things don't beat yourself up
Daddy Cool.!! DC. Douglas Collins. DC.!! When i was working in 1984/5 a elderly man called Douglas started work at the same buiness. " REMU's " on mill road Cambridge. I was heading for a second madness breakdown , when l believed that Douglas was God. One time he was on the phone telling whoever he was talking to that his name was joe bloggs !! Now l heard this and thought this is hilarious , God telling someone that he was Joe Bloggs.!! All sorts happened around that time 1984/5. I even thought another Guy , called Stuart Davies who worked there was Jesus. ( His friend was the Unicorn on the British Coat of Arms , A man called Simon.) Well you can tell i was well gone mentally , completely off with the fairies. Ha ha. Stuart and Douglas weren't who l thought they were , but Simon is the Unicorn , no doubt about that. All sorts went on. And l ended up losing my job as l was creating chaos , having a full blown Schizophrenic breakdown. St Michael the Holy Spirit.
I was 15 when they became famous and now at 61 I'm still rocking with the original 50's songs.😂😂😂
Move on buddy 😅
Sounds familiar
Memories of this vocal group will never leave me! A Totally Enriching and Undeniable Contribution to the Music world! 👍
First band I really 'connected with'. Loved the music and the antics of Den Hegarty were great.

Me & my mates used to sing their tunes when hanging about.. I was 11 in 1979
brilliant band and performance.
Amazing days 😊
Despite their showbiz chops and the clowning, they always struck me as being a bit grittier and more rock 'n' roll than fellow revivalists Showaddywaddy.
Definitely. The fit right in with the post punk/new wave scene.
And not having to rely on the Teddy Boy chic
@moominpic their inspiration was from doo-wop which goes back even further than the Teddy Boy chic.
Excellent 🎉 🎯🌹❤️💯
Saw them several times 1977/78 Met Griff Fender outside St Georges Hall in Bradford Gave me lot's of stuff when saw them again in Brighton 78
First tape I ever bought when I was 9 and they where my first musical influence.
😂 The first time I've heard Darts being a musical influence 😂
No Beatles, Stones, Eric Clapton,Bob Dylan, The Band,Pink Floyd,or even jjcale. But darts had it all 😂😂😂
Love this track .crazy band
Saw them live what a brilliant group of musicians and showmen 😂
long live the darts
I grew up watching them and am always amazed they never get a name check - so thrilled to find this here. My treasured albums all warped now......
I loved this group when I was a little kid back in the 70s -80s. Great stuff 😊😊
Woke up with this stuck in my head. 🤣
Always enjoyed watching Den muck about on TOTP - when I could drag my 11 year old eyes away from Rita Ray in full flow...
Darts were too underrated band. 2024 and this sounds really good.
The first ever concert/gig I ever went to in 78 with my dad at Leicester Demontfort University and was the greatest experience I’d had in my then young life. Particularly recall an a cappella song that blew me away. Great live band
I used to have the 12" single of this, happy days.
I love Rita Ray ♥
I was 10 in 1977, over the years I've not heard this song but I like it.
I saw Darts five times at the Liverpool Empire between 1979 & 1979, they were the biz!!!
Ha ha. Me too...but just the once though. I still have the LP 'Everyone Plays Darts" and listened to it recently. Great album. Love 'Late for work"!

I was 13 - I loved this song + bought the single.

The best Brit Doo Wop Band ever!
Love em still
Who is listening to this during the dark November nights of Britain 2021 in the middle of Storm Arwen???!!!
Back in the late '70's, we had a head Teacher, who ended up with the nick name, "Daddy Paul" after this song..........
Remember bopping away to this tune. Excellent stuff
Had a laugh with God with this track, and snooker Jane got the beeps from the cars , striding down Newmarket road , Cambridge , over 35 years ago.

Dude in red jacket in audience backing off when Den does his bit proberbly thinking what the fuck and where is he going !
They are playing in Leeds. This month.
When Den sings The Girl Can't Help It ,all I see is Jayne Mansfield. Wow
Saw then in Belfast they were the real deal

Den Haggerty must be, Beaker (from the Muppet show's) twin
hiya bedroom bowie!
An ex girlfriend of mine lived with the son of Den Hegarty at Goldsmiths University
Did 1 of them becomes the doctor on doctor who?
😆 No, Den Hegarty does resemble Peter Capaldi though (and Doc Emmet Brown)
No but the bald guy was in Blake's 7 🚀

Doc Brown?
is that a young ( jaws ) from the bond film next to the singer?
Griff's short tongued!
Fick off
Said it for years. Make this the National Anthem of Scotland rather than that humdrum 'Flower' garbage.
