Florida Fires Dan Mullen - Rapid Reaction (Late Kick Cut)

  • Florida fired Dan Mullen Sunday after another disappointing loss on the road which added to a disappointing season in Gainesville. Florida A.D Scott Stricklin spoke to the media after the decision was made and began looking forward to a coaching search, but on Late Kick Live Ep 207 Josh Pate took some time to look back on the Dan Mullen era at Florida and talk about where things went wrong. Where do you think the situation began to come undone in Gainesville? Was it the loss to LSU last season as a 24pt favorite? What about the bowl disaster against Oklahoma? Did Dan Mullen ever get back in the swing of things after not being able to land an NFL job? He's a good coach but you got to be a great coach to succeed in the SEC at a school like Florida. His flaws in recruiting is what keeping him from being a great coach. A open job I think that would fit Mullen's style better is Virginia Tech. He probably won't have a problem in getting another job.

    • @walker1984

Even at Virginia Tech, he will be expected to recruit well. They may tolerate 4 loss seasons, but there has to be talent found. He's just bull headed thinking he can take 3 stars nobody wants and make them something and when that turns south hit the transfer portal.

He got Miss St to a #1 ranking at some point and could’ve had 3 straight 10 win seasons @ Florida if covid didn’t kill 2 game last season. Recruiting hasn’t been great this season but last season wasn’t bad by any means. Times have changed. If you don’t win and win now you’re gone. This is a stupid firing IMO. Who else is Florida gonna get that’s rlly that much of an upgrade?

@@walker1984 Virginia Tech is one of those demanding types of ACC teams, they are basically on the same level as South Carolina. You can't rely on the transfer portal and lightning-speed player development all the time. Sometimes you need a 4-5 star juggernaut to come in straight out of high school and help you guys out.

Gus had one way of doing things and when it didn't work out he just became a stick in the mud. Gus had a great record for a while, but was too stubborn or lazy to adapt. That's a big part of the reason mullen got fired too and I don't want that attitude at auburn. So a humble and adaptable person. Whoever that might be.
But yes, Bobo is flat out incompetent. You don't ask your backup qb to pass the ball on 4th and 1 from your own 35 when you have tank running over everyone and you already have the lead so don't even need to go for it anyway.

If we don’t get Kiffin I would love Urban Meyer - I don’t care how he left us. We need him to restore balance in the Gators.
