It’s time for the excuses to end and time for him to look in the mirror at what’s really the issue for this program right now: him.
Jimbo is old school enough to have practiced all week for Miami , assuming they could sleep walk to victory over App st. Probably didn't even know what kind of offense app ran
The thing about Jimbo’s offense is he always gameplans for the level of competition he’s facing. Look at the plays he runs when we’re facing bama, Florida, Clemson, North Carolina, etc… and then look at the plays we run against app state, and literally any non conference game. Side note, game planning like that effects the way the way players play. Watch what we do next weekend against Miami, it probably is gonna look nothing close to the plays we were running last week.
I love the breakdown you showed between 4-5 star recruits of both schools and the finances. It just shows you "thats why they play the game". On any given day there is a upset waiting to happen under the right curcumstances.
I remember telling an A&M fan right after they signed that “ best recruiting class in history” that it’s not just about signing the best, it’s about coaching them up and putting them in the best position to win as well or those guys won’t be sticking around very long. Especially in this new transfer portal era.
Jimbo Fisher is the most overrated coach in the FBS today, and has been for over a decade. I'm flabbergasted how every year he underperforms and nobody (media especially) seems to realize that his bar is middle of the pack, not anywhere near playoff.
Man I was shocked when A&M hired him and people sounded optimistic lol the recruiting class hype never fooled me these guys just haven't looked good any of the years he has been there minus COVID year.
I was an assistant coach and worked for offensive minded head coaches. They will NOT easily hand over offensive coordinator's duties to anyone. Many times guys like that are the slowest to change of any coaches. Offensive line coaches and Defensive coaches are usually early adopters and will change if it benefits their craft and helps them win. Offensive coordinators and QB coaches are notoriously "little professors". They know what they know and won't get out of their comfort zone. This is what I see in Jimbo. I was at a coaching clinic at Samford University in 1990 where he was speaking as an assistant for Terry Bowden. He hasn't changed since then.
I live in boone and am not a huge football fan, I usually sneak to walmart during the games because theres almost no one else there. I got caught in the celebration on the back side of campus on my way home and it was a surreal sight for our little mountain town
That's a pretty brutal indictment of Jimbo but I am pretty much right with you Josh. Sadly, I just can't see Jimbo hitting the Reset button and making substantial changes ala Saban. He's loyal and stubborn to a fault.
I remember not long ago having discussions w/ Aggie fans as they teased me about LSU's Attrition issues. I remember as if it were yesterday telling them that they would find out when the season started how hard it is to be successful with that much talent. Everyone hates Coach Sanan but I'm most impressed with his he manages his players. A&M will find out how many players bolt to the Portal. Talent alone is not enough.
In case it wasn't already known, it should be known by now: App State does not care who your team is or what they're ranked. They will play the game to the absolute hilt every time. I've never seen a Mountaineer game where they weren't playing like it was the last game ever.
You make a good point. We all could guess app state would put up 17 or more. But to keep Texas a&m to 14 in their home. Wild as hell. Jimbo might be feeling some heat. Guess West Virginia is in his sights after all.
As an A&M fan, I hope Jimbo is feeling some heat. I know he's losing support from the fan base very quickly, but he's too stubborn to make the necessary changes.
Jimbo lost the plot with this one. Not sure you can recover from that sort of embarrassment. Absolutely pathetic. But unfortunately with the way these ridiculous contracts are these days, he won't be on the hot seat.
I had great couple days. I went to Appalachian State and they were big underdogs and won. My high school who's games I never missed were 16 points underdogs and they won to go to 4-0. Go Mountaineers!! Go Yellow Jackets!!
Just re-watched the highlights and maaan Pate.. love to watch a coaching masterclass. That's what college football is all about. Love it when a 1-AA team comes to play with the most sound fundamentals with better play calling and limited mistakes and brings a winning mentality, and a Fuck all the talk about the stars on the field, what are you really doing on the field with the guys you bring in attitude that comes to overcome the odds. This should've been a Ed Norton curbstomping on paper. It's nice to see the little guy win every now and then ain't it too? Lol
I’ve been saying that about his offense for years. It’s outdated and he refuses to change. Dabo and Clemson is the same way. They can’t out class you with athletes anymore edpicially at QB. Max Johnson has to start and Cade at Clemson as well
there is literally no need to start Cade rn when DJ's outplaying him. just ease him into it. Clemson's recruiting classes are about the same if not better on paper than when they were winning Natty's. they've just missed on key positions and have had the worst string of injuries during Dabo's tenure.
That video of the celebration reminds me greatly of how downtown Uvalde, Texas was when the San Antonio Spurs beat the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals in 2014. People took to the streets, trucks went flying by with Spurs flags, the bars were madhouses, and cars everywhere honked their horns in celebration. The town square was alive with joy as the Spurs came back in 2014 after falling short in 2013 and got the job done. It was a great experience to watch and be a part of.
Josh, after my son's college football experience was over (Texas A&M, btw) - I thought I'd lose interest in your show. But I continue to watch and love your product. Keep up the great work.
That was an atrocious loss from Jimbo Fisher. If he is blown out by Miami next week ( which is highly possible) he should be immediately fired and get the Arkansas/Bret Bielima treatment, forcing him in a lawsuit for the remainder of his contract within the Texas state judicial system. He screwed AM, so they should return the favor.
My wife and I were watching this game and she was wondering why we were as this would be a boring game. I told her that App State is a surprisingly adept sports college and can’t be taken for granted. We ended up changing the channel. I know enough not to irritate the boss - I also know enough to not say ‘told ya.’
What a day for the Sun Belt Conference. Appalachian State beats Texas A&M, Marshall beats Note Dame, and Georgia Southern Bests Nebraska causing Scott Frost to lose his HC job. All 3 wins on the road.... All 3 SBC teams +15 point underdogs..... I think what we might be seeing here with this new NIL stuff is what you see in the NFL - kids get some money in their pocket and forget their job is to play hard on every down. Once they get that bag they just don't try as hard or care as much.
To add to your point. Ohio State had a terrible defense last year, Ryan Day literally cleaned house. Fired many different defensive coordinators, and made a home run hire in Jim Knowles. OSU started as one of the best defenses in the country. Texas A&M's offense has struggled and he still won't change.
Notre Dame lost to Marshall. Texas A&M lost to App State. Nebraska lost to Georgia Southern. Wisconsin lost to Washington St. This proves that even the small colleges can go toe to toe with the powerhouses.
Who cares we lost, Texas should be the Alabama too but they didn't what's the difference, Jimbo Fisher's a lousy coach and check this a&M's an average program look at what we've done over the last 30 40 years nothing
@@johnmandock56 believe me man. I’ve had my fair share of the jimbo years. It was rough. Besides 2013 we rarely dominated. Teams like Troy would compete with us. We either lost by a little or won by a little. He hasn’t adapted like Josh has said.
as a mountaineer I'm fucking tickled shitless with the year we've had so far. I know this is about A&M but last night's game was something else and I'm still fucking riding the high from it. Roll fucking neers baby
I'd like to see a college team come out and run something like we ran 50 years ago in my jr. High which was the notre dame short punt formation developed by Knute Rockne at Notre Dame in the 1930's We had 3 running backs and a blocking back/reciever with an unbalanced line to the right. We used line power and large strong backs to overpower most of our opponents.
Incredible win, once again, for the 'Neers. I have no idea why a P5 school would schedule App State LOL. There is no upside...win and you should have, lose and possibly go into a 10 or more year rebuild. May need to pump the brakes though, this was Texas A&M after all.....they have been on a near 90 year rebuild. Michigan on the other hand...not so much. Congrats App State!
I love that we scheduled App State. We should have put it in the contract that if we take the L we pay double. We got exactly what we deserved and gave App State exactly what they deserved. I hope this is the low point for A&M, but there's gotta be some real self-reflection going on.
All i’m gonna say is, this weekend was a perfect example of why we should expand the playoff (I know it’s happening). Sun belt came to play and take peoples money.
I'd say the opposite. Notre Dame and A&M would be in according to an expanded field. Based on rankings. Alot of teams could do what App and Marshall did... obviously. Beating those two teams doesn't qualify as entry to the CFP. We get blowouts in a four-team field. Expansion is going to generate even more blowouts. How is that a good thing?
It wouldn't matter. The expanded teams will get blown out. Cincinnati is proof of that. It's a money grab and not a way for the top 12 to compete. I don't believe a team with 2-3 loses should even be considered when it's possible the top 4 11-1 or 12-0
@@Quawnn So what was the point? You think adding two Sun Belt teams is competitive? All this weekend did was add proof that A&M and ND were (preseason) ranked highly because of feelings.
@@timkinley1779 nah man. The point is to fire back at the people who say the talent pool is the only thing that matters and that being their only reason for not expanding. I do agree, they were both overrated lol. But an expansion will have these types of games happening every year.
Jim Harbaugh is a good comparison too. After 2017 and 2018 he realized some kind of change was necessary. Despite handing over the defense to a coordinator every single year. Made the move and won the big ten 3 years later.
i think its safe to say that michigan has finally recovered from losing to appalachian state back in 2007. texas a&m has recieved a lot of fallout from losing to them last saturday
A&M "could" flip the script. Was shocking to see Calzada go wild for a game vs. Bama last year when they looked dead. But for now, at first blush I'm thinking they are 6-6 this year.
Honestly I was impressed with app states defense they showed they have a good offensive potential in the end of the unc game now a great defense I think they deserve 25 seed
The offense expired in 2014 but put up 41 against Alabama in 2021. If you say so. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the players overlooking a small school, going out partying on Friday night and being hungover on Saturday.
I'd like to see a change to eligibility rules and allow 6 years instead of 4 years with a redshirt option. I think that would be a simple way to bring more of a competitive balance to CF.
Jesus….JP said everything I was thinking about Jimbo. He’s right on the money about Jimbo not wanting to lose his grip of the offensive philosophy. If you pay attention to the way Saban runs things during the game i feel like he’s just over seeing everything but not necessarily directly involved. More like just holding his coordinators accountable. That’s what a head coach should be. But every offensive minded head coach is similar to Jimbo in how it’s their way or the highway when it comes to offense.
It’s a weird game to watch. It looks like a high school team playing the JV and the JV winning. Every player on the A&M side looks bigger faster stronger until the whistle blows.
Jimbo Fisher is probably the most unlikable guy in CFB. I won't say he's overrated, but I will say he's antiquated. You're right, that offensive play calling was atrocious. With Bama, Saban did evolve on offense, but I think by hiring Bill O'Brien, he took a couple of steps back. Bill's offense isn't exactly revolutionary. I can't tell you how many WR screens he called against Texas. He doesn't feed his play makers on offense. Sark was worlds ahead of Bill with what he did at Bama. I'm hoping O'Brien gets a HC gig after this season and Saban can bring someone in who is a little younger and more innovative.
I'm not sure why people are shocked that A&M lost to a team they weren't supposed to. This is literally littered all over their history. They have two (!!!) double digit winning season since The Big 12 conference was formed. That's a lot of losses.
I had a friend of mines who is a FSU fan tell me years ago Jimbo was a bad coach, look at the NFL talent he had on that FSU championship team and that’s the only reason they won. Wasn’t because of him at all. He may be no different than Larry Coker
A&M may have talent but they don’t have heart. That was the difference in the game. App stays has heart and they truly believe they can beat anyone. Hats off to those guys
I assumed App St would give A&M a good game, with A&M winning by 10-14 pts, but a win. But App St winning the way they did, then Marshall beating Notre Dame, and how many FCS schools over FBS schools? Yeah, they were games like Buffalo losing to Holy Cross, but WOW! I see a 2007 type season happening right before our eyes, but instead of it being the #2 team that's got the curse, it's gonna be alot of FCS over FBS, and G5 over ranked FBS teams. I can just see it happening and the crowd will be wanting that 12 team playoff this December. Thast why I love college football!!!!
App State gave up close to 600 total yards and 30 first downs the week prior to North Carolina and all Texas A&M can muster is only 1 offensive touchdown playing at home?

@@carolinaKing864 It’s not just that it’s the current state of the offense. We’ve seen it year after year. We have just been giving him the benefit of the doubt because either “we’re waiting for his roster to be fully his” or “we lost our starting QB.” It’s year 5 and we’ve given you all the resources you could ever ask for and that is 100% your roster. It’s time for the excuses to end and time for him to look in the mirror at what’s really the issue for this program right now: him.
@@willhartwig6002 you will continue to be highly disappointed unless you guys grab a once in a lifetime QB.
Jimbo is old school enough to have practiced all week for Miami , assuming they could sleep walk to victory over App st. Probably didn't even know what kind of offense app ran
every time I see y'all run speed option for no gain or negative yards I just laugh. Y'all paying $10M a year for this play calling?🤣
Agreeably Spoken Josh! I’m sick of Jimbo out dated offense! I love my Aggies but it is hard to watch games going forward!
All that money spent on players and coaches. 10 million a year for a coach to call speed option when he dips in his “bag” 😂
Thanks to Jimbo you can reuse this thumbnail for every A&M game recap for the rest of the season. Saves y'all a bit of time.
Jimbo Fisher is an incredibly average coach that got incredibly lucky for a year at FSU.
You got that right
Yup. I was screaming for him to let go of the offense before '13. He sucks at OC.
Very, VERY sadly I believe you are right.
Lucky plus had a pro level QB
I think we can win the national championship with him, we will see over the next 2 years
Josh your the man. Wished you would have been at razorback game Saturday. Always watch your shows.
Should've never left FSU
Go mountaineers!!
Their offense struggled last week. They played a better team. If things don’t change it’s going to be a long season for them
Now game day is headed to Boone for app state vs Troy this Saturday.
Hail merry
Jimbo lost the plot with this one. Not sure you can recover from that sort of embarrassment. Absolutely pathetic. But unfortunately with the way these ridiculous contracts are these days, he won't be on the hot seat.
I had great couple days. I went to Appalachian State and they were big underdogs and won. My high school who's games I never missed were 16 points underdogs and they won to go to 4-0. Go Mountaineers!! Go Yellow Jackets!!
Josh you actually get me to hit the like button by saying “Don’t leave yet! Don’t leave yet!” Well played sir.
Outstanding analysis! Kudos to Appalachian State. I was stunned watching this game as well, glad I didn't bet on this one.
Michigan fans...we understand Aggies, we understand and welcome to the club.
😂😂😂
im not from nc im from tn and i started liking app state years ago. i was stunned at how well they played saturday, that was one hell of a game.
And that’s the best part, app state was supposed to be a beat down team and was paid alot of cash to be that. Supposed win for a&m
This is an awesome commentary! Josh tells it like it is!!
The Sun Belt Conference deserves some major respect.
“They came there buying into a vision” is a weird way to describe NIL enticements
God bless you for actually pronouncing our school correctly 🙌🏼
Just re-watched the highlights and maaan Pate.. love to watch a coaching masterclass. That's what college football is all about. Love it when a 1-AA team comes to play with the most sound fundamentals with better play calling and limited mistakes and brings a winning mentality, and a Fuck all the talk about the stars on the field, what are you really doing on the field with the guys you bring in attitude that comes to overcome the odds. This should've been a Ed Norton curbstomping on paper. It's nice to see the little guy win every now and then ain't it too? Lol
App State is no longer a 1-AA team and hasn't been since 2016. They are a FBS program.
The QB isn't really the problem, Max Johnson would just get blown up, the o-line was horrible
Longhorn fan here. My sincerest praise to the Sun Belt Conference!
App st is a heartbreaker
We're never gonna live this down. Congrats to App state
As a Oregon duck fan i can with certainty that you will live it down, trust me
To add to your point. Ohio State had a terrible defense last year, Ryan Day literally cleaned house. Fired many different defensive coordinators, and made a home run hire in Jim Knowles. OSU started as one of the best defenses in the country. Texas A&M's offense has struggled and he still won't change.
"We talk about winners first on this show" damn son
After I watched a@m week 1, I thought they sucked. So I took app st. +19. Wish I’d have bet every dime I have now, instead of the paltry $15.
Notre Dame lost to Marshall.
Texas A&M lost to App State.
Nebraska lost to Georgia Southern.
Wisconsin lost to Washington St.
This proves that even the small colleges can go toe to toe with the powerhouses.
College Football is like Dragon Ball FighterZ in a way.
It's time for A&M to hire an offensive coordinator! I'm tired of saying "Next year will be the year", and I've been sayin that since R.C. Slocum left.
The game stats 🤯 they dominated
High which was the notre dame short punt formation developed by Knute Rockne at Notre Dame in the 1930's
We had 3 running backs and a blocking back/reciever with an unbalanced line to the right.
Michigan was ranked number five in the nation, when app State beat them and they went to the Rose bowl that year
I love that we scheduled App State. We should have put it in the contract that if we take the L we pay double. We got exactly what we deserved and gave App State exactly what they deserved. I hope this is the low point for A&M, but there's gotta be some real self-reflection going on.
The offense is terrible, I hope we don't get blown out this week
I don't believe a team with 2-3 loses should even be considered when it's possible the top 4 11-1 or 12-0
I see both of you completely missed the point.
I don’t understand how five stars on offense go to A&M
As a aggie and cowboys fan my football season couldn't have started much worse..
Literally the most delusional fan bases haha
LET’S GO CANES ! 🔥
This just proves hard work and perseverance and dedication beats NIL.
Mr. Pate you're one of the 👌 best at what you do. Thank You 👏
Become an administrator head coach and hire a new offensive mind for OC. That's why Saban is the goat. Adapting.
Jim Harbaugh is a good comparison too. After 2017 and 2018 he realized some kind of change was necessary. Despite handing over the defense to a coordinator every single year. Made the move and won the big ten 3 years later.
Way to go App State! Jimbo's seat is getting warmer.
Haynes King should of been pulled out second quarter. JOHNSON should of came in with his experience and the Wr's we have it would of been game
Lol not with how the o-line was getting blown up
i think its safe to say that michigan has finally recovered from losing to appalachian state back in 2007. texas a&m has recieved a lot of fallout from losing to them last saturday
Josh Pate, th most insightful guy for the best sport in th world, College Football
Dale Jones from Cleveland, Tennessee is the defensive coordinator. A member of the 1985 SEC Champions UT Vols!
Subscribed and Liked...very good analysis
Everyone in the ACC had Jimbo figured out before he even went to A&M.
A&M didn't look good week one and this was foreseeable. App State got a few turnovers and took it to the Aggies.
Late Kick Fans when He Kicks Early: 😥 (Idk i think his name is Posh Jate or sumthin.)
This is why every conference should have a champions berth in a fair playoff system, just like every other tournament in the NCAA.
The point about all the papers Fisher has is interesting. You notice Mike Leach, who knows a little about offence, uses a single, rather small card.
I was thinking the same thing. it's mind-boggeling.
Was it an upset?
Perhaps App State should be in the TOP 25, while A&M should be unranked?
Remember when Bear Bryant at Alabama invited Darrell Royal and his offensive Coordinator to teach him and institute the Wishbone at Alabama early 70's
I had a friend of mines who is a FSU fan tell me years ago Jimbo was a bad coach, look at the NFL talent he had on that FSU championship team and that’s the only reason they won. Wasn’t because of him at all. He may be no different than Larry Coker
Funny that it's time for Jimbo to do what Bobby Bowden did and become more of a coach/ manager while Jimbo and Mickey handled the coordinating 😂😂
All that crap Jimbo fisher talked bout Saint Nick he got what he deserve. ROLL TIDE !!!
A&M may have talent but they don’t have heart. That was the difference in the game. App stays has heart and they truly believe they can beat anyone. Hats off to those guys
Once again you've nailed it.
