The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has been better known as "the PlayStation Phone" through most of its development due to the fact that it will indeed play Sony games. This is the first PlayStation certified phone, but is it going to be able to live up to the expectations everyone has for it?
We're unboxing this gaming/phone hybrid for you and taking a look. How will it feel? Will the game controls be worth anything? Is it responsive? We're going to find all of this out for you in the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play unboxing.

watching this on my xperia play..had mine for 2 years now..buying a Samsung s4 in a week...wat a ride we v had me n the X play..made loads of memories...never broke..I guess that has to do with how u treat ur phone...

Thanks for this! I went to exchange my Xperia yesterday and the Verizon associate informed me I couldn't because it has been in water evidenced by a missing red dot on the top of the battery. My phone has NEVER been exposed to water, and thanks to this video, I nabbed a screenshot of the top of the battery with a WHITE sticker on the top with NO red dot. So there's proof. Going back today, wish me luck.

well here is an example you could player a first person shooter game on your phone maybe lets say COD or Battlefield and you have 2 choices to either play the game on your iphone or your xperia phone right? so me as a person or a gamer it doesn't matter either way i would choose the xperia because it has physical controls. could you see my point now?

I got my droid x a few months ago so im waiting on the revision of this for my next upgrade. Dual core and more optimisations are what I'm expecting.

@BradLloyd99 if you like to play, dont play 2 or more hours straight give your eyes a rest, and remember to blink to lubricate your eyes

Well at least it has physical buttons. I hate playing "games" on my iPod with touch controls. They're not precise and is just annoying.
My first phone ever! Preety Good but while gaming or using data it tends to REALLY HEAT UP

im pretty sure there will be a xperia play mini coming soon. same like ps2 big and mini and ps3 big and mini. just my opinion though :)
@GTATheater You didn't convince me, X10 is quite old, but still in means of hardware it keeps up, i agree, second gen snapdragon is better than first gen, GPU is also better on PLAY, but again, are these changes worth 350 bucks? Srsly, for this amount you get SLIGHTLY modernized chip and a chunk of metal and plastic which they call controller.. Well you may find these changes worth the price, but I definitely don't.

too small to game with imo i have big hands so its probably a no go for me, i had problems with my psp and my hands cramping so im sure this won't be much better...cool phone just not for me
That's sad, Crash Bandicoot was one of the first PSX games I ever played. This is EXACTLY that game, they didn't even take the time to make it widescreen...at LEAST have a dimmed bezel with decorations or SOMETHING, SHIT!

@SonicBrawlChao Pretty much everything that has a clock starts at 12:00. Once he connected to the internet it probably changed it to the correct time.
The hardware is nice from Sony, but just like Nokia, their software is just lacking and archaic compared to offerings from Microsoft, Android & Apple.
I micro USB is meant for the wall charger, the other is for the car charger. Not that they're hard to come by anyway, but it was nice of them.

@Vertygo2 totally agree. I really think PS1 library of games is far superior to what phones can offer, but really, what is a point of buying 800$ smartphone when you can play all them on PSP for 150$. Incredible waste of money.

As a phone this device is pretty good. As a portable gaming console..... This is even worse than PSP Go.
And btw, you can get on this only PS1 games, no PSP games, so it's kinda useless device.
I LOVE these old game, but i rather the iphone on this because quality of gameloft games for example is much much better than ps1 or even ps2, its still nice option for some people
Im a huge apple fanboy, im my eyes, the iphone and the appstore are unbeatable, BUT...BUT if they do this right with games this could possibly give the iPhone a run for its money...
I don't know why but im really starting to get into the online play on my x-box 360. hows the PS3s online recently? last I heard wii was doing better that PS3 online wise.
Im good i have the psxoid emulator and a ps3 bluetooth controller with my tablet and Samsung galaxy s device but thanx for the offer Sony I like having my credit cards safe ;-)

Boy you can really tell he's not a gamer :). Crash Bandicoot does not use the circle pads because the original game was not designed for it. Likewise, it did not take up the full screen because it was made back when the standard format for a video game was 4:3. You have the option to stretch it to widescreen, but it did not, as you said, 'Look better'. It stretched the whole picture, distorting the image. Love your phone reviews, but felt the need to point that out.
yeah, I see your point, but the Xperia doesnt support games such as that yet I believe, so your point is invalid? lol.
But my point was just that the physical controls don't mean the phone is neccesarily better.. Let's see how my example would be... for like i guess "normal person" (not to say gamers arent people) texting.. Just because the LG Xenon has a physical QWERTY keyboard, doesnt mean the iPhone isnt just as good :D

@YankiEBubbAAussiE I'm not an apple fanboy, in fact, my favorite smartphone maker is sony ericsson. I don't hate on other operating systems like you say I do. The only thing I hate is the kind of people who go on saying bullshit about ANY company (whether it's Apple, Samsung, Blackberry, etc.). And you supposedly acted like one of them by saying "apple is tracking your every footstep".
@krazygreen Because they possibly dont care about specs, or refuse to shell out $15 for a gripper or play a game on a touch screen? This phone also has access to Sony's own suite of games which I don't think any other phone does. None of the phones you mentioned even have a keyboard for a game gripper to attach to. Also from what I've read this phone has possibly the best 5mp camera on the market, and 1080p still sounds gimmicky to me, so far only the LG 2X can do it and it isnt that good at it
@GTATheater Technically this phone has the same specs as SE X10, or X10 is even better cause it can record 720p, whereas Xperia Play cannot. X10 costs ~400$ So when you do the math it seems that you pay ~350$ for a piece of metal and plastic as a slider dedicated controls and some EMU apps and roms, which can be found on the market for much lower price.
by my comment i meant that the iphone is better in many ways as it has a better appstore and many more games and please do not think that i meant that the xperia is a bad phone the xperia is better than the iphone in the fact that it has physical controlls for gaming
@YankiEBubbAAussiE do you even have an iPhone to really have a reason to complain about that? Because at least 80% of the people who complain about it are android users who wouldn't care about the problem if it wasn't another way for them to say that the iphone sucks.
@JoshJW11 They knocked the date back to supposedly September, and some of the new features might be a new design, iOS 5 which change a few things messaging system, the multitasking works etc. Its up to you if you are really into gaming go with the Xperia if you like, its just not for me.
@FreedInsanity im getting the evo 3d, i dont play games on my cell and if i do they would be light games like nintendo games, psp was supposed to be for hardcore gamers and putting that on a phone would be ironic , the only good thing about the phone is that its run on android.
