Rick's new VA sounds similar to Roiland when he's calm, but every clip here of him shouting or raising his voice at all, it's VERY noticable. And Morty sounds like a decent impressionist.
I honestly thought both were spot on for the first comparisons show , but you can REALLY hear that Rick doesn't sound the same when he's yelling or shouting. I don't get why they didn't go with MortySays and the other people Justin Roiland *himself* reviewed on that Vanity Fair interview.
The two people they hired are working actors, ie. people who know how to act. Voice impressionists can do really accurate reproductions but they don’t know how to improvise new situations. There was an interview with one of the producers about how during auditions they put actors through situations they would never expect the characters to be in to test their abilities. I think Rick Prime screaming indignantly through a mouth of blood and broken teeth wouldn’t be something a voice impressionist could get across effectively
Yeah Ricks voice sounds pretty alright when he's just talking but he just can't reach the same highs that Roiland was able to, it'll be tough to get used to it
@user-qc1nn9sh6g Evidently, he was accused of more awful things. Even if the allegations are genuine, Rick and Morty will never be the same without him, and I sincerely wish they hadn't just cast him aside so quickly and pretended he didn't matter. I love the show, but that was cold.
I think the difference in voices is mostly that they don’t have that grating edge each character had. Morty occasionally had those slight moments of almost cracking and screeching. Rick having an abrasive scratchiness at times. Now they seem like their voices are more moderated or filtered, like what you’d do for a cleaner sounding recording.
Literally my exact comment after episode 1. Rick is 80-85% on point but it's that last 15-20% where the magic happens. It was even more apparent with Mr. Poopy Butthole. Part of his deal has always been to tow right up to the grating line, especially on the 'Ooweees" and held syllables.
The new ones are pretty good but its REALLY easy to tell that they are different. There's just something about the old ones that really define the characters.
For once, i have to disagree. I actually had to come here to hear the comparison and its so insanely spot on that its uncanny. I could only tell the difference when he was shouting alittle bit and even then its hardly noticeable.

It is really only truly noticeable side by side too. If you were watching it for the first time standalone you wouldnt even be able to tell its a new voice actor.
hopefully these are either early takes, kinda like how the mario movie put its worst foot forward with chris pratt's lines the promotional material to generate engagement, or whoever's doin the new voices is able to develop their versions a bit more as time goes on. one of the hard parts of filling these shoes is that for all intents and purposes it's just roiland's shoes with sharpie scribbled all over em, cuz his vocal range is mostly a spectrum of how annoying or nervous he could make his own voice sound, so anything most impressionists can pull off isn't gonna sound nearly as natural. but again, for all we know someone had the bright idea to generate free advertising by gettin a buncha nerds on the internet to talk about how the voices in the promos don't sound quite right lmao
There's no longer the gravel sound in Rick's speech which was what made it memorable. Everyone saying it sounds like he took cough medicine or stopped drinking are on point. He needs to sound like he's under the weather, but too much of a boss to give af.
At least they tried to match the voices on this one solar opposites is clearly different. But it’s one thing to do a voice and then to also capture the mannerisms. And they missed it on that part. I think my time with both shows have come to an end. You can’t replace a main voice like that and think everyone is going to be ok with it.
I think the new rick va is missing a tiny bit of fry and probably needed some eq'ing to clean up certain lines but otherwise does really well at selling it. Morty is hard to tell the difference in and is a welcome replacement
Family guy hired Azzerz for the late voice actor for Cleveland, they should've done impressionists on solely the characters, idk why they had to hire previous actors, tons of ppl can do better yet still dont have an acting / VA career who would love one.
It sounds way better within the episodes. I forgot they had a new voice actors until episode 2 of the season. You can only really hear it side by side / when he's yelling mainly. The first voice clip (a rake situation) sounds exactly like him
Unpopular Opinion: Mortys New Voice is more noticeably off than Ricks New Voice. How does nobody else hear it though? Mortys New VA sounds less depressed and more energetic (higher Pitch on average during sentences) while Ricks New Voice just has minor differences in accentuation
As an impressionist, I can tell you this, this is probably one of the closest substitutes to Justin’s voice. That throat rasp is something fierce. Very, very hard to replicate. I’ve only heard one other person who’s been able to replicate it almost perfectly, which was that Sean person.
Huh, in the first example, the new voice was perfect. In the rest, it was slightly noticeable. Morty you can tell is an impression but it's a damn good one. And Rick is also a really good impression but you can definitely hear the voice doesn't come as naturally. I think if it weren't for the fact the voices were so distinct and we KNOW they're replaced, it wouldn't be an issue because most voice changes are drastically different, not even trying to sound like the same actor but just doing a roughly general similar voice. Recreating the character. But some voice replacements are otherwise seen as impeccable impersonations until played side by side. Still sounds likely the best option they could have gotten out of a replacement.
Justin's Rick was perfect because they both shared a drinking problem and this was reflected in the voice and character. Too bad he's been banned even after charges were dropped.
No they were dropped. "The district attorney's office told NPR charges were dropped against Roiland "as a result of having insufficient evidence" to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt"@@tennisgazelle
Rick's voice is missing the sourness and gravel. He sounds spot on to the positive Rick we saw in that one episode where they split their personalities. But honestly, its close enough, and will hopefully improve as it goes on. Im just glad the show will hopefully still be decent in spite the Roiland shit. Morty sounds really off to be honest, which is surprising, I wouldve assumed his voice would be easier to imitate. Hopefully that improves.
No way, Morty is spot on. But Rick's new VA really needs to add a more gravelly sound to the voice, and perhaps throw in some unpredictable raspy cracks to the tone
Comment section is full of clowns. No, the new voices do not sound good... at all. That's not Rick or Morty. If you told me they had like, twins or whatever, and that season 7 was the start of "Dick and Shmorty" or whatever, I guess that would work. Then the new familys names could be "Ruth, Ronny, and Kaitlyn". But these voices aren't Rick or Morty. Comment section, you sicken me.
New voices are so spot on. You are not giving these voice actors enough credit. Insane level of voice control to mimic Justin’s characters inflections so well. Honestly having a dedicated voice actor for each character does add a layer of tonality that you’ll hear if you’re listening for it but stop listening for it and you’ll forget about it.
@@draw2death421 I believe so, I'd have to look into it but I believe those were false allegtions too. The REAL reason Roiland wasn't brought back was because he was "Hard to work with".

The voices are very similar (almost identical) but what we have to remember is voice actors are actors. Yes you can get the voice down but you lack the acting to bring the character to life and unfortunately it doesn’t have the same bang when trying to be mimicked.

They just need to let their voices crackle and strain in that epic way Roiland could screech, even when he wasnt shouting. His best voice was Morty's shrill and cracking pre-pubescent whine. It really adds to Morty's insecure vibe. And somehow, Roiland turned that teen boy crack into an old man rasp. But that metric aside, they're really excellent covers.
When he talks normally, he sounds like Rick, but when he tries to yell or tries to raise his voice, he sounds like jerry trying to imitate rick's voice. maybe next season he'll be better.

hopefully these are either early takes, kinda like how the mario movie put its worst foot forward with chris pratt's lines the promotional material to generate engagement, or whoever's doin the new voices is able to develop their versions a bit more as time goes on. one of the hard parts of filling these shoes is that for all intents and purposes it's just roiland's shoes with sharpie scribbled all over em, cuz his vocal range is mostly a spectrum of how annoying or nervous he could make his own voice sound, so anything most impressionists can pull off isn't gonna sound nearly as natural. but again, for all we know someone had the bright idea to generate free advertising by gettin a buncha nerds on the internet to talk about how the voices in the promos don't sound quite right lmao
Agreed.
Roiland got fired dude, what are you gonna do? find a way to free him out of prison or what? lmao.

So not literally indistinguishable then.

Im sure as a fanboy of rick and morty the voice changes are making you upset but thats no reason to be such a hater
they are good. honestly forgot the voices were going to be different people and didn't notice
These are very impressive imitations. Quite a talented voice actor(s?)!
I think the new rick va is missing a tiny bit of fry and probably needed some eq'ing to clean up certain lines but otherwise does really well at selling it. Morty is hard to tell the difference in and is a welcome replacement
The beginning of your comment makes 0 f***ing sense.
Talented voice impressionists sound more like Rick than whoever this new guy is.
Doing an impression is easy, sounding like that while saying something completely new and with different inflections is an entirely different story.
Family guy hired Azzerz for the late voice actor for Cleveland, they should've done impressionists on solely the characters, idk why they had to hire previous actors, tons of ppl can do better yet still dont have an acting / VA career who would love one.
WHOS READY FOR ROCKS FAMOUS SPAGGETI
It sounds way better within the episodes. I forgot they had a new voice actors until episode 2 of the season. You can only really hear it side by side / when he's yelling mainly. The first voice clip (a rake situation) sounds exactly like him
Unpopular Opinion: Mortys New Voice is more noticeably off than Ricks New Voice. How does nobody else hear it though? Mortys New VA sounds less depressed and more energetic (higher Pitch on average during sentences) while Ricks New Voice just has minor differences in accentuation
It Bugs me that people call Mortys voice spot on but shit on ricks New voice when it's not even bad
True
Just wrap it up already. The show is a decade old at this point. I’m nearly 24 and I’ve been watching it since I was 13.
Blame the way shows are made these days. Lazy AF imo.
@@funkyweapon1981
I like to see you try to do a better job then
As an impressionist, I can tell you this, this is probably one of the closest substitutes to Justin’s voice. That throat rasp is something fierce. Very, very hard to replicate. I’ve only heard one other person who’s been able to replicate it almost perfectly, which was that Sean person.
Rick sounds like someone voice acting Rick almost perfectly
nah
Rick needs to roughen up his voice and get further from the mic and he’s golden, morty is already good but maybe a little tiny bit more lower pitch?😅
Rick sounds calm compared to Justin it was because original voice of Rick was actually drunk in real life when acting these roles 😂
Justin's Rick was perfect because they both shared a drinking problem and this was reflected in the voice and character. Too bad he's been banned even after charges were dropped.
Charges were settled. Not dismissed. He’s not innocent. He just paid his way around the allegations.
No they were dropped. "The district attorney's office told NPR charges were dropped against Roiland "as a result of having insufficient evidence" to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt"@@tennisgazelle
It could have been so much worse, kinda impress they found people that could mimic these voices, especially morty’s voice.

I kinda feel like the new Rick VA just doesn’t sound the same
When I first heard the new VAs next to Justin’s it didnt sound too different. But literally didnt watch any R&M for a week and then listened to the new VAs again I noticed a huge difference.
I would like to see, or more appropriately, hear a side-by-side comparison of the cold open to the Rick and Relaxation episode.
I hope there's a weird plot reason for their voices sounding different like Solar Opposites did
"Wubba lubba dub dub M-Morty we've had to-to-to change our v- BURP-voices to AI because Roiland is a child abuser, Morty, h-he REALLY fucked up this time and God isn't real either"

They runined it
i hadn't watched it in 2 years and watched seasons 6 and 7 and couldn't tell the difference before watching the whole show again
Even if rick sounds different, lets still appriciate the show
No need to go haywire on the voice actor for not 100% nailing the ricks voice guys
Ngl, I feel like those so-called "fans" of Rick & Morty who to me seemed more like Roiland defenders going haywire about the new voices of Rick & Morty were the reason why I sorta outgrown Adult Swim shows like Squidbillies,ATHF,this etc. and found new favorite Adult Swim shows thanks to my favorite program Toonami like Primal,Unicorn: Warriors Eternal,My Adventures with Superman, and Ninja Kamui lmao.
in my opinion. the new morty sounds different while the new rick sounds closer to the original in some aspects
I agree.
The voices are very similar (almost identical) but what we have to remember is voice actors are actors. Yes you can get the voice down but you lack the acting to bring the character to life and unfortunately it doesn’t have the same bang when trying to be mimicked.
Old voice better
Considering Roiland is innocent and this show was his baby, I'd say it doesn't matter what the new voices sound like, the magic is gone.
Na, he's not innocent. True, they couldn't "prove" he did it, but he most likely did. And lets just assume that he is innocent, so what? He groomed kids online and was hell to work with. The guy got off easy
It was hardly his baby. He basically made awful versions of Doc Brown and Marty for some animated shorts. Dan Harmon made it into a series when Justin nearly bailed on the whole thing.
Regardless of the outcome of Roiland's domestic case, it's been well documented how poorly he behaved around the Rick and Morty staff. He was clearly a liability to the workplace, so it only made sense Adult Swim fired him first chance they could. Innocent or not he was still a shit employee, and like any job that can be grounds for termination.
@@zonebro6205there are people inside your walls. I have no prove for that, but it wouldn't stop you from believing me, would it?

They just need to let their voices crackle and strain in that epic way Roiland could screech, even when he wasnt shouting. His best voice was Morty's shrill and cracking pre-pubescent whine. It really adds to Morty's insecure vibe. And somehow, Roiland turned that teen boy crack into an old man rasp.
But that metric aside, they're really excellent covers.
That's not healthy for your voice
People saying Morty sounds the same and rick doesn’t is actually blowing my mind, morty sounds horrible, and rick sounds the same really, tf
When he talks normally, he sounds like Rick, but when he tries to yell or tries to raise his voice, he sounds like jerry trying to imitate rick's voice. maybe next season he'll be better.
The voice of Morty is fine. However the old natural voice that Rick had is not there and it is scary close. But definitely a different voice. I’m excited for what Justin Roland will do for future work and roles cause he will always be a phenomenal voice actor.
i mean some times it’s noticeable but sometimes it’s not, but i’ve seen some people on TH-cam do a spot on impression so they shouldn’t have had any issues finding a replacement
