Dude, I know this is an old vid, but last year I went down HARD at 50 MPH and the LS2 Strobe preformed flawlessly. In fact, all my other gear did to and I was blessed enough to be able to pick the bike up and ride away from that nice little slide into the gravel ditch. I am a die hard fan of the LS2 Strobe!
After watching alot of FortNine's videos....I just don't understand how or why this channel isn't HUGE! By far one of the better motorcycle centered channels on TH-cam. Great stuff here FortNine. Thank you.
I just discovered you guys yesterday. I must say that your delivery is spot on, the content is creative and intriguing, and it's rare to find a channel these days that isn't full of clickbait and gimmicks. Thanks for doing that, keep up the good work.
I love your honest reviews, you tell it how it is with just the right amount of humor and video style to keep the audience engaged. The "literal garbage" comment for the Z1R Jimmy's helmet bag still makes me laugh.
Only reason like I like this geek is because he is the absolute honest motorcycle dude that keeps it real on here. He'll tell a donated product they are shit if they are. And in a geek way, he'll convince you they are. At the same time, I've bought so much gear off his videos due his geek way of explaining why something is really good and convincing me why. FortNine saved my life due to his videos. Probably many other lives as well due to his advice. First to admit it but as always...keep an open mind and keep watching other vids.
Greg Myers He never recommended it. He is simply telling the public about gear which is significantly cheaper than their more expensive counterparts. That doesn't mean he is advocating us to wear it. He even says multiple times for half of these products that he wouldn't wear them due to safety issues. But hey, better to pay $150 for a deathtrap helmet than $500.
No way I'd risk wearing anything but a full face. Maybe on open roads in the middle of nowhere, but never with SUV driving soccer moms and stupid teenagers near by.
@Greg Myers Selling out? dude? what? because he'd recommend a non-full faced helmet? You do realise what motorcycles are right? yes it can be a cheaper alternative for commuting but ultimately? its all about what level of risks are you willing to take. While I personally will never wear anything but a full face, I won't judge people for wearing half-buckets, so long as they're wearing respectable gear alongside it. Some people just like having a half-face because it lets them converse more easily, they find it more comfortable with goggles and maybe a face mask. Biking is weighing the risks against comfort. Just because he showed off a good budget half-face bucket doesn't mean he's a sell out, he even stated that he wouldn't ride with the scorpion. As for his 'credibility' amongst youtube motorcyclists? uh ... do believe he's still rated highly by pretty much every motovlogger, and alooot of bikers in general because the tips he gives are solid and the reviews he does are cute, quirky an brutally honest. Just because you wont do it, doesn't mean there aren't riders who don't prefer open face buckets and just because they prefer it doesn't make them any less of a biker than you or lose respect. Just depends on if they're wearing T-shirts, shorts and sandals.
For me (being a “lower socioeconomic” rung kinda guy), a “Underpriced” vid is handier than even a “Value for money” vid. Thanks Ryan. Thanks F9 for letting the dude rip!
It hasn't been revised in 2017 as far as I know, but the Scorpion VX-15 Evo Air is an excellent choice for off road use. I've gotten my hands on a 2013 model, which has quite a special paint job that was made especially for Honda/Husqvarna paint schemes. It weighs around 1350g, has excellent venting, but stays surprisingly quiet, even when used on open roads. Reasonable design choices were made to allow for great functionality, such as the Air Pump system, which reduces noise and makes the helmet more snug and thus more safe. I paid 130€ for it and ordered a pair of 100% Racecraft Extra goggles with it, which cost 70€ extra. Couldn't be more happy to have spent some extra time on research :) Great video, though. Just as always, Ryan! Much love from Germany
"Look like literal garbage." I honestly laughed out loud. New subscriber binging on some of your older vids. Really enjoy them, the personality and excellent production. Thanks.
Talk about the LS2 Pioneer! It was cheaper when it first came out, but it's still a crazy low $160 or so. It's loud, it's a little cheap in some areas, and it's probably not the most protective thing in the world, but you get drop down sun visor, fog resistant lens, LOTS of ventilation, actually really good highway aerodynamics, VERY LIGHT, goggle compatible with the visor down, comfortable to wear glasses with, quick release strap, removable liner, a large peak that really cuts out the sun, ridiculously awesome styling, and the head shape is actually more intermediate oval rather than long oval like they advertise. Only things that could really make it realistically better would be a chin skirt, detents for the visor, and better communications cut-outs.
LS2 helmets are really good value. I've been using 1 for the past 4 years. There is an issue with fogging but opening the visor a little fixes it. I am even considering to upgrade to a better helmet from LS2 again.
Why not? Maybe overpriced would be a sensitive matter, buy under? Not really see a reason why not to do one. I'm sure it's complicated and expensive, but many people, including myself would love to se a video like this
Simao W 1. gsxr1000 (cost almost $1500 less than it's competition, but has an tilt imu unlike the new cbr1000rr, quick shifter up and down, gyro abs, launch control, and it's the first litre bike on the market that has vvt basically the vtec of a honda low rpms it makes alot of mid range but the cross pver allows it to have alot of top end too!) 2. Yamaha r3 (got everything the ninja 300 and cbr500r offer but more torque and features like gear indicator, off set pistons to rev faster and lighter than the ninja by 15lbs or more I forgot.) 3. kawasaki versys x 300 (is the cheapest adventure bike on the market that has decent off road capabilities and has a bunch of accessories like fog lights, 12v charger, gear indicators and more but will all the parts will still cost less than the versys 650, bmw f300gs and vstrom 650)
That Strobe is the best deal I've ever gotten on motorcycle gear. It does get a bit warm though, but that might be because I live in the tropics where we hit upwards of 30deg C (about 90 F) all year round.
Refreshing compared to the Revzilla noise. Presenter reminds me of a younger version of James May. Same undercooled ironic impression. Keep it going boys!
I love the Scorpion exo ct-220 so much I bought another, and I own some high end helmets. It is my first 3/4 helmet, and they are so much more comfortable on a hot day than a full face or modular.
Difference between bell dlx and the mips version is that piece of plastic, and that special visor. U could buy one mips, and when it's time for a new one just get the normal one and transfer the mips mechanism.+u get 2 visors with the normal one.
Bought my LS2 just a few days ago for 148 with free shipping. I love it so far. Has some mild wind noise on the left side but way less then my last helmet. It also comes with 4 reflective stickers to put on it you want them ( light silver).
Thanks for the great reviews Ryan. I'd love to see you review the Shark Spartan Carbon and its price bracket stable mates. Or even put it through the F9 crash lab!?
Would love to see the Qualifier chin curtain stocked on FortNine. The base Qualifier is already a fantastic helmet (especially for the price), but as you mention, without the curtain it is noisy. I definitely wouldn't mind shelling out $20 to fix that issue.
I wear modulars, but a full face never again.Want to say something to your buddy at a red light, forget about it, unless you both have communication systems. Want to grab a snack, or something to drink while filling up at the gas station, which requires you to also go in and talk to the attendant, all require removal of a full face. I generally never take my helmet off unless I'm stopping for a meal, break, etc. And having recently tried a 3/4 helmet, they are much cooler and more comfortable when it's hot out, and their peripheral vision is better.
QDADDY6 , Motorcycles aren't safe, want to be safe, don't ride. Every motorcyclist accepts the danger of riding and must decide for himself what level of risks he finds acceptable.
This video is almost 2 years old, but i'm hoping you will still see the comment. How do you compare the HJC DS-X1 and the Bell MX9 adventure? I can't decide between the 2 because they are very similar in price. A store owner told me he prefers the HJC for comfort and construction. It also has speaker cut outs which I like for my blu tooth. The MX9 is widely recommended and has an ECE safety that the HJC doesn't.
The LS2 is a great helmet, if not lacking better ventilation. Almost going on two years with mine now with no issues. The do sell a pinlock specifically for this by all reports works well.. I just picked one up but have not installed it yet.
Why not Scorpion R-2000? You can find them for sub-$250.. That's a Snell-2010 rated helmet with two visors stock... same helmet used by dudes in motoGP... for under $300
I used to have that shield transition on my glasses. It’s called photon chromatic in Spain. I never bothered buying it again because it’s more expensive than buying a pair of polarized sun glasses. I guess on a bike it would be useful for in the city, in the summer, if your wearing a closed full face helmet, that is.
Just a bit of clarification on the Bell Qualifier. According to SENA Australia, the mounting system said to work with the qualifier was actually developed for the bell Mag 9. Because of this the mount does not fit snugly enough to satisfy safety of the SENA 10 or 20S and to include the mount is sort of a moot point, i was totally ready to go all out on this helm and i don't blame Ryan or anyone who did the research on this video. Just thought id update those who were just as happy as i was to have a nice custom fit coms unit before realising that you cant even find it on the SENA website or SENA Australia. Just on revzilla.
The only underpriced helmet i found truely underpriced is the last one i bought. It's from Lidl (a german-based supermarket in de mid- to low-priced tier that also carries some clothing, sporting and household items) where i paid about 60 euro's (i think something like 70-80 usd) for an overengineered flip-up helmet that sports a removable liner with included replacement pads (with a slightly snugger fit, although my L-sized head fit both liners fine without feeling too loose or squishy), pin-lock pins pre-installed and even a pin-lock 30 screen included, flip down sun-visor with button lock and easy outside controlls on the left bottom side, chin screen to keep out the wind and those cannally spaces in the side of the liner to fit glasses into. To be honest, it was supposed to be a back-up to keep me riding while my brother looked for a new helmet to replace his HJC flip-up that didn't have enough space for his glasses, but i have been very surprised with the quality i got from this helmet. It isn't as quiet as the HJC helmet but with an ECE certification and all those features for that money i can barely get myself to buy that HJC helmet from my brother when he eventually finds a helmet for himself 😅
Bad side protection for LS2 helmets are because they have that drop down visor mechanism on the side and therefore having a thin EPS liner. Just ordered a Vector and see how that goes.
I'm from the UK and looking at moving to Canada. please do a video on Canadian motorcycling laws and what's different riding there vs the UK!! love the videos!
You are indeed a dorky looking dude - with or without the funny dress up, but you make thoroughly researched, really well thought out and informative reviews. Thanks bro. Much better than that motormouth guy with all his fivewordsinone drivel. Did you review the AGV Rossi 2012 Winter Test? I'm struggling to find one via my phone.
Do you want everything on the LS2 but WITH! bluetooth speakers factory installed for the same price? Go look at a Viper RS, the quality is a good chunk lower but some Bluetooth comms cost more than the full helmet. For the price, it's amazing
Awesome Information but nowhere in the world I've ever been is there somebody that would make the statement that something is under price that's got to be a millennium trait or something Please don't do this because the manufacturers will see your story and raise the price God-bless you know better
The qualifier DLX can also fit a Sena 10S, not jus the older SMH-10. You also forgot to mention that it also has poor crash protection on the left hand side. (At least the regular DLX does)
Are Sharks helmets not widely available in North America? They're reputable (many professional riders sport them) and value for money is out there. Just picked up a kevlar and carbon fiber Spartan ff helmet (features sun visor, removable lining, chin curtain, included pinlock, space for glasses and comm system, relatively quiet on the highway, etc) for 450€. And this thing ONLY weighs 1290g in M size.
In Australia we have a rating system from the Australian gov't. Independently tested helmets. Sharks are always high on the list. We also need an AS/NZS 1698 standard to be legally riding. Crash.org.au
Hey man, been watching your channel and you have some great content. I recently bought an LS2 helmet (forgot the model). What do you think about LS2 helmets? (I know they're not the best in the business but they're among the good ones available here)
Are there any reviews planned for any of the T.O.R.C brand of helmets? Models like the T14b, one of which I own, seem pretty reasonably priced and feature packed. They also carry DOT and ECE ratings.
Maybe you can try KYT vendetta 2 / Falcon it have Double d-ring, Integrated Ventilation System, Visor Lock,U-Air Pump System, pinlock ready, chin guard and many more This helmet only cost under $50 for solid color and under $90 for some livery or you can choose solid color but with flat visor and some spoiler
FortNine I was wondering... Is there a schedule for when you do reviews on bikes themselves? Or is it more loosely based, such as when there is time/opportunity? In addition to that, is the bike one you choose, or one people have said they want to see?
We try and keep a tight schedule but once in awhile things happen either in filming, schedule or editing so we might move some stuff around to still have a good content flow. For bike reviews, its bit of mix of what new bikes are out for the year, what is available, how much time we get to keep it to shoot, what Ryan wants to review and what the fans want to see. We try to pick what we think will make the most interesting review for you guys to see while staying honest in our writing process. Hope it clears it up ~TeamF9
Nexx XR1.R is pretty underpriced, its a carbon kevlar helmet, i got one for ~$40. It was released in 2013 though so bit old, but not obsolete! (carbon kevlar doesnt age)
What about the Scorpion EXO-R710? I bought it after seeing the review here and love it, incredible good for use it with glasses, and only payed around $100 USD.
Would having a transitions shield be smart to have if you are usually riding on forests roads surrounded by redwoods? I feel like all the different lighting that would be on the road will be dangerous with the Bell Qualifier DLX MIPS
Mate most underpriced helmet has got to be the Vemar Kona adventure I bought mine new for 100pounds and nothing beats its specs for this price I’ve searched the hole market check it if you fancy the biggest bargain of the year
as much as I like the value option bell provides, every single one in my store always gets this odd schmoo on the inside of the visor, be it mx-9 adventure, qualifier, even the stars we just got in all get a mist on the inside of the visor. I also can't seem to figure out just why they didn't make the qualifier accept any other systems than smh10's and q3's
0:36 The way Ryan moves the MIPS tells me that I have much to learn 🤣
So sexy 🤣
So true... So funny. 😂😂😂😂😂

Just a bit of clarification on the Bell Qualifier. According to SENA Australia, the mounting system said to work with the qualifier was actually developed for the bell Mag 9. Do you want everything on the LS2 but WITH! bluetooth speakers factory installed for the same price? Go look at a Viper RS, the quality is a good chunk lower but some Bluetooth comms cost more than the full helmet. For the price, it's amazing
finally,.,., make a video with best protection features and low cost basis
Nice content bro, thank you 👍
Awesome Information but nowhere in the world I've ever been is there somebody that would make the statement that something is under price that's got to be a millennium trait or something Please don't do this because the manufacturers will see your story and raise the price God-bless you know better
1:40 I love seeing him fight his eyes to stay looking straight
HJC DS-X1, I'm happy to have the one you used in the video, as long as it's an XL and you ship it for free... with a $50 voucher... thanks 🤙🏼
"...enough canals to embarrass the country of Panamá" lmao
That last one looks buildwise quite similar to the Crivit (Lidl) helmets that go for €60 here in Europe.
Your voice is perfect for advertising.
The qualifier DLX can also fit a Sena 10S, not jus the older SMH-10. You also forgot to mention that it also has poor crash protection on the left hand side. (At least the regular DLX does)
I dont know why I watch your videos I dont even have money for the bike licence lol
Do you mind to do a review of the CRG helmets?
Hey man, been watching your channel and you have some great content. I recently bought an LS2 helmet (forgot the model). What do you think about LS2 helmets? (I know they're not the best in the business but they're among the good ones available here)
The GMAX G64 modular helmet should of been included in this line-up. It is a better helmet than the LS2 Strobe for basically the same price.
Are there any reviews planned for any of the T.O.R.C brand of helmets? Models like the T14b, one of which I own, seem pretty reasonably priced and feature packed. They also carry DOT and ECE ratings.
Are Flip Up helmet like this LS2 are safe enough as compared to full face helmet?
And the quick release mechanism as compared to D ring???
We need the 2020 version of this video.
Unrelated to this but... how about an overview of existing cruise controls/throttle locks?
Maybe you can try KYT vendetta 2 / Falcon
it have Double d-ring, Integrated Ventilation System, Visor Lock,U-Air Pump System, pinlock ready, chin guard and many more
This helmet only cost under $50 for solid color and under $90 for some livery or you can choose solid color but with flat visor and some spoiler
do a underprice motorcycle for your next video. that would be great.😁
The DLX can also be used with a Sena 10s, I know because I use one with mine
La mayo at literal trash. Keep up the sweet production guys!
Great presentation and informative...
i would buy that scorpion covrt if it would come as a full faced- one piece helmet
The qualifier mips is now 270
The notification squad has arrived
The best squad ever! ~TeamF9
FortNine You know it!
FortNine Completely!
You should do a video on how to buy a helmet that fits properly for new riders.
finger rotation* 0:39. well done, well done....
Damn, I should have gotten the bell qualifier instead of an agv k1
Love the scorpion helmet very comfy
Do you loop the vid when spinning in the chair, or do you fall on your ass after each filming? lol. FortNine rocks. TY Ryan.
I am looking for one like the Airoh Twist but without the chin so far away, something that goggles would shield the opening.
This video made me realise underpriced doesn't necessarily mean affordable
Your awkwardness is growing on me. You remind me of someone I went to high school with. But I do enjoy your videos
Got a question, got a helmet that fits perfectly fine but every time I put it on, left ear folds and it’s annoying. Is the helmet too small? Thanks
What about the roof desmo. didn't see any review about any roof helmets here
"Literal garbage" had me completely on the floor..
