Can I just say that I'm an insomniac and I've been putting your vlogs on in the background as I sleep lately and it's been very helpful. I also enjoy watching your videos in the daytime mind you, but I have rarely found more soothing content for my ever running brain. Thanks!
Scott, I think you have a real talent for storytelling. Your video was so engaging and interesting, and I was captivated from beginning to end. You have a great way of making your audience feel like they're right there with you. Regards, Joe B.
True! Backing in is WAY safer. Some people ask, "Well, you have to back in or back out, what's the difference?" Right after highschool, I worked at a pool servicing company, and visited 50-60 pools a day. I backed into almost every driveway. As I approached, I could do a quick visual check of the driveway and all the area around it, then pull just past it and immediately back in. No chance of running over a bike or kid (heaven forbid!). Then when leaving, 5 minutes later (we only checked and added chemicals, no cleaning), I could see everything in front of me as I departed the driveway and headed for the next pool on my route. Later, as a supervisor, I'd go with the new guys that always wanted to pull in forwards. That was the first habit I'd break them of, and though they were skeptical at first, after trying it a few times, they always recognized that, especially with the limited visibility of a truck, it was much better to back in.
I worked in the office for a mechanic and he said always back in because front ends are cheaper to repair if someone backs into you when they pull out. Radiators and front clips sound expensive but it was true that rear end parts were way pricier.
Hi Scott. I am from the Canadian Prairies. The mice love the new cars, because a lot of the new wire insulation is made out of corn. I have heard of mice totaling a car, after the damage they did one winter on a SUV that was in storage, as the owners went south for the winter... All the best with your van
Coils are a good DIY project. Small flat screw driver helps with the connectors. Two of mine were showing signs of arcing. My old Toyota oil burner. Burned oil since new. Dead by 125K. They didn’t make long lasting Corolla in 2009. Also didn’t stand behind warranty. It’s okay to burn a half quart of oil every 500 miles. Not a Toyota fan.
Always excited to watch Scott doing Van life. Haven’t seen the video yet. About to grab me a cuppa coffee. Just wanted to say I was with my wife driving in Santa Rosa California. My wife says hey there’s that coffee guy she knows that I like watching his videos, she said that I almost jumped out of the car. She was out of my seat. She was only joking. It was a van that looked like Scott’s anyways buddy. Thank you for keeping me entertained and taking me along on your adventures Scott.💯🙏☕️☕️☕️
So glad that Scott he’s willing to come out here and share a bit of his life with us. There’s always good humor. Found myself watching this video again today. Wow. I made the “Mac n cheese” with peas and yellow bird salsa and you are right, it was 5 star-yelp -deliciousness! It took it to fancy hotel Mac n cheese status. 😂
I would have replaced the plugs to when doing the coils. You can get carbon tracking on the plug due to a weak boot. However you can have a bad coil also. You did a good job either way. The wire-releasing agent, when they make wires, like to use peanut oil, and the mice and other critters smell and think it's food. Some manufacturers use soybean oil, and they love that more.I think by now, they will find something better. I love your videos.

Love that you showed us glass beach, it truly is beautiful. I’m learning so I must ask. I noticed you have what looks like an enamel coated cast iron fry pan. I just bought one but haven’t used it yet. I also noticed you have a metal fry pan. What are the reasons you use one over the other at times? I read one has to treat enamel cast iron pans carefully in special ways so I’m nervous in caring for mine properly. Can you shed some light on how you care for yours? Thank you, Scott! ❤
I don’t do anything special with my enamel on cast iron pan. Here’s a vlog that has a bit more info on why I bought the pan: th-cam.com/video/RB680wnanRw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=MW-mFoPtuirB8ziV
@Haha I can see why you said that now! Do you ever encounter snakes in Humboldt county? Also have you tried Frank’s Hot Sauce? It’s made here in Canada. It is awesome! I can’t find Yellowbird here. It is worth trying if you see it👍 Happy Halloween Scott:)
Bought my coils, cables, and plugs at Rockauto. Think it was around $350 for everything (4.7L V8). Firestone wanted $605 for a "tuneup" and i'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gotten new coils. We'll see how long it takes me to put all this in. Hopefully I can get it all in in a single day. I'm quite fatigued these days myself. We'll see.
woow only 55 minutes ago ,,good catch knowing i am only 5000 mile away in turkey watching ,i used to live in east coast ,only once i have been to LA and huntington beach venice beach,if i only knew scott and his nomad life style i would never come back to turkey i lived in newyork since 83 till 2012 but now i am 64 should i start doing it i am undecided.long live scott by the way i am having my second coffee and on the first i watched your hair cuting ,trinidad area lol, thank you for keeping me watching you entartained by you also taking me alone places i havent been yet. by the way your flanel shirt you bought it from walmart or home depot somewhere ,look good you like it a lot dont you scott.i have to tell you one more thing you got everything in that van anyone can have in a house. also harm the suckers RATs scott or put some moth bolls around the engine.no dont kill the spiders they good ,eating musqitoes.yes sunset was great ,thank you for reading i realy appreciated.
😊 I like to put dry mustard and cayenne pepper in my homemade Mac and cheese and right before you mentioned it, I was thinking, "Ooh! I wonder how Yellow Bird Serrano would be in it?". When my mother-in-law comes to stay I've been giving her Yellow Bird to put on her eggs in the morning. She likes it and she is a die hard tobacsco fan.
When you're in Northern California and say you're going to NAPA, you sometimes need to clarify. "Whatta ya mean Napa is a few blocks away? It's like 140 miles!"
What a lovely place you are Scott. It is so nice and open. I am so happy you are a Mr. Fix-it and do things yourself when able. As usual, I am commenting before you finished. That is ok. I won't miss anything important that you say. I hope you had a fabulous day.
F mice. That sucks. I have tons of traps to keep my garage clear. Stainless steel wool at all gaps helped too. Hard with an engine bay to keep them out. You need a pack of snakes for the engine bay.
A funny thing Scott about your model van. The first time I saw this model I thought it would make a great campervan. Sad that it looks like you will have to move on from this. I hope you find a great reliable replacement. I have been a Toyota guy so I have been looking at Siennas.
When I am in my van and suffer of flies or mosquitos..., I would always trash the inside of my van, the walls and attached equipments, attempting to murder them with the fly swatter - it's war and I was accustomed to antagonization from those bastards as belligerence was high I dropped all 'rules' of engagement. But I escalated with increasing success by deploying a mosquito net over doors/windows, to setup a defensive perimeter. Next I developed a specific van lighting scheme that optimized my target acquisition capability. Finally, I had defense contractor procure a powerful, military grade 18.2v batt. handheld vacuum with stretchy hose and the long needle nose attachment for corners (low bidder > DeWalt team of Black & Decker fame). I vacuum them right out of the air. Then I place a balloon over the nose attachment, so they cannot escape... EVER !! (I stay with the Haz Mat yellow balloons - they match my DeWalt) Clearing my van usually takes 5 min max, but after which, I'm completely done with them. I store it under my bunk as multipurpose device and I train with it on weekends... clean-up my van
You must not do much sky viewing due west after sundown. You've said nothing of the comet. Mendo so much more rocky than Humbo. The arch at the beach where the water swishes in and out through a "cave" and looks like its coming from a secret source below a sharp drop off...does the tide ever get high enough so that the hole doesn't drain? gotta love that ocean wind especially when temps are melting lead inland. wish I could eat as many carbs as you do, sure looks yummy.
I haven’t heard about comets until just now. I’ve been avoiding watching or reading the news. Never got close enough to the punch bowl to notice the water level.

"This is all about the butter delivery device." Such a great quote!
I lived in Crescent City, California on highway 101 as a kid. In 1966. I liked it there. Glass beach reminds if Bandon beach where I am from.
Reminds me of the Bahama beaches.

Second time watching it. I could hear it in your voice when you said "there's a big steep cliff here".

I recently bought rumiano’s cheese curds. Loved them!
Oh, I love the Fort Bragg Bakery bread.
And the Petaluma creamery cheese, so good.

Napa parts used to be good but now, some are stamped made in China. If the engine skips and misses, I would replace the spark plugs before the coils or all at the same time. DYI whenever you can is always good. When it was time to change the cabin air filter in the other car, they wanted $120.00. It was an $11.00 part and took me under 2 minutes.
We had squirrels chewing wires and tried the peppermint oil. I think I saw a squirrel look at me and laugh.
Bwhahaha, squirrels are hilarious
Fort Bragg has a lot of great campgrounds Scott. I hope you enjoy your time there.
I know the coil packs are expensive but when I have a misfire in one I normally replace all four plus new spark plugs just to be safe .
West coast Spiders check, foot water check, probably better ignition parts check… Safe travels Scott

hmmm my computer says a bit further, more like 7,000 miles. The southern part of California is nothing like northwestern part. How did you like NYC?
😊 I like to put dry mustard and cayenne pepper in my homemade Mac and cheese and right before you mentioned it, I was thinking, "Ooh! I wonder how Yellow Bird Serrano would be in it?". When my mother-in-law comes to stay I've been giving her Yellow Bird to put on her eggs in the morning. She likes it and she is a die hard tobacsco fan.
I thought I saw a sign that said fishing, I never see you fishing and that's very healthy for you.
I like to eat fish but not so interested in fishing
When you're in Northern California and say you're going to NAPA, you sometimes need to clarify. "Whatta ya mean Napa is a few blocks away? It's like 140 miles!"
Haha
Scott, sourdough is my favorite bread period.
Butter delivery, oh heck yeah, that's my attitude too! I usually say that I season my butter with toast!
When I am in my van and suffer of flies or mosquitos...,
I would always trash the inside of my van, the walls and attached equipments, attempting to murder them with the fly swatter - it's war and I was accustomed to antagonization from those bastards as belligerence was high I dropped all 'rules' of engagement.
EVER !!
(I stay with the Haz Mat yellow balloons - they match my DeWalt)
Clearing my van usually takes 5 min max, but after which, I'm completely done with them. I store it under my bunk as multipurpose device and I train with it on weekends... clean-up my van
Well that’s one way to solve the issue
If that's Direct Injection, you need to use fuel additives to keep carbon from building at the injection site....
I just checked. Your van has port injection, not as critical, but could use a injector cleaner once in awhile..
