This is my first trip to Point Reyes. Point Reyes National Seashore is a short drive from San Francisco. And this area is the exact opposite of the big city.
It was a rainy day but beautiful. I drove to Point Reyes Station from Novato. The first stop was at Toby’s Coffee for a fantastic latte. Then we headed south of town to hike out to the last known Coastal Miwok village. It was fascinating to get a glimpse of how this First Nations people lived.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
Please follow along as I document my journey.

Out of all the You Tubers and Van Lifers I watch you are without a doubt the most genuine. I really enjoy your content.
Thank you
Check out Foresty Forest
Same!
I agree, I've been driving in rush hour traffic chilling to this podcast
Yes. Always interesting. And yes I like Foresty too but I watch this guy when his new vids come out too. On my favs list.
We LOVE your humble videos, gentle brilliance and subtle humor. Thank you for being there and sharing. We so appreciate you and your coffee recommendations and supporting local businesses. And, those grilled cheese sandwiches on sour dough bread look amazing, too!!! Keep following your heart and we'll keep tagging along. Arigato, Scott-san...
Thank you. It’s great having you here
Good video I like traveling in the rain 😊
More rain, fewer crowds
My friends think I'm weird because I don't like the summer weather, I love the cold. Plus, I enjoy driving in the rain and when it's snowing... ✌🏾
Nice video great scenery! Thanks for sharing with all of us.
When I visited pt. Reyes years ago I had a thought that I imagined this is what all of California looked like a few hundred years ago. I am so glad that the state along with the national park service and department of the interior made a concerted effort to keep the seashore natural and wild in that part of the state for all to enjoy. Most definitely one of my favorite places . Looking forward to getting back there.
Terrific video. I loved the walk. Very cool.
I always WAnt coffee after watching you, but I watch your videos before night sleep!
Slug bug. 😐. All the huts, sweat lodge, very neat.
I've been to Toby's coffee and farmers market.Great coffee. I love Point Reyes. It's so adorable. Thanks for the video ❤
Lots of rain here too! Icy rain with sideways wind..you know the kind! 😮😊
No, no, icy doesn’t sound good at all!
thanks for another great vid. I passed you on the coast as I came down to SD. I play your videos in my van when I’m getting my day going, or winding it down. You’re a great vanlife neighbor to have 😂
Thanks. Hope you’re trip is going well
This part of California is my favorite. Point Reyes Station, Marin, Novato, Corte Madera. And on up the north coast, Mendocino, Ft Bragg, Gualala, Westport. And to the south, Pacifica, Monterey, Carmel and Santa Cruz. California coast is absolutely beautiful. My favorite areas for camping, shopping, eating, RV’ing, hiking and beaching.
What a beautiful area. It does remind me a bit of home. Thanks for showing us around.
Btw, I finally purchased an Aeropress. (birthday $$$ extravagance). It DOES make a good cupof coffee...as long as it's light roast. Enjoy the rain!
Cool! Glad to hear that you like your Aeropress!
Enjoyed your video, as usual. The little hike you took, in the rain, was just perfect. I think I could feel the cool temp & a misty rain on my face walking along with you! Those deer were a special & beautiful treat to see. Really appreciated that added bonus on the little hike! Thanks again for this enjoyable video, & for sharing your day with us. I think I'm off now to go make a grilled cheese sandwich, on sourdough, for dinner. 😊
Thanks Carolyn. Enjoy your dinner
If you are going to be in Marin County there’s LOTS of places to see.
San Rafael has China Camp with lots of trails and views of San Pablo Bay. There’s also St. Vincent’s Church still in use today. You can walk outside through the grounds and courtyards towards the back to again views of San Pablo Bay. What’s so nice about the whole grounds and buildings is the architecture and settings which was built in the 1850’s (I believe) and so to see the beautiful Spanish-style architecture is very calming in this setting.
It is not a tourist destination and it has some small businesses housed in the outer blogs of the church.
Fairfax has nice shops and a couple of cafes ☕️ but one of the best things about Fairfax is that it has great trails around Lake Lagunitas, Bon Tempe Lake and Alpine Lake- there all in the same area. You can walk around the whole lake. You do have to pay $5.00 entrance fee for the whole area but worth it.
Though the drive to and around the park is somewhat hilly it’s more of gradual climb and pretty much levels out once you get into the park.
Larkspur : There’s a Trader Joe’s and Cost Plus parking lot just off of Rte. 1. Well BEHIND the Cost Plus building is more parking spaces - not really used - but you can park there and walk to the marsh trails that take you along the San Pablo Bay. You can see San Quentin Prison from the trails.
Larkspur/Greenbrae has a nice little shopping center with Peet’s and Starbucks (inside Mollie Stones. You can sit outside and watch all the Teslas drive by. I really think Southern Marin is the land of Teslas, there’s even a Tesla dealership in Corte Madera, next town over.
Now if you wanted to meet up for a coffee I could show you where they filmed Clint Eastwood’s Dirty Harry scenes. lol.
Ross: Phoenix Lake is beautiful and you can walk around the lake and there’s additional trails too.
Tiburon has spectacular views of San Francisco across the water and Angel Island too.
Sausalito is a nice town to visit. There’s a great spot for you to park in front of the public library and basketball court. Then walk further into town (5 minutes). Sausalito is right on the water with spectacular views of San Francisco, Alcatraz Island and Angel Island and the Tiburon Peninsula. There’s a small park called Dunphy but it’s been renovated and I haven’t been to see it yet. It’s right on the water. As to cafes, there is less of them now. But there’s still Cafe Trieste on Broadway Blvd. and you can sit outside.
Sausalito: This is a great spot to look at the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco and an old, old reconverted army barracks/base too.
It’s RIGHT next to the Children’s Discovery Museum in Sausalito. You could park all day, cook too and walk around to all the trails. Fabulous views- it’s not a tourist destination but it’s a gold mine of views. Don’t miss it.
Obviously there’s more but one can only text so much before one gets tired (annoyed working on a IPHONE).😅
I hope you enjoy wherever you go in the SF Bay Area.😊
I love west Marin. It’s beautiful. Limantour Beach in Pt. Reyes National Seashore is one of my favorite beaches. Seeing this video reminded me of the hostel out there (near Limantour). No cell service but it goes with the geography.
Never took you as a Marlboro Man! Hee
Thanks for the vid Static...
No. It was the one with the camel.
Another great travelog. I truly miss those hikes thsnk you for making my day. Cant wait to get on the road again and hit the hiking trails. Seeing nature, the deers, amazing so many at once. I at times take café on my trails 😁
Thank you! I really enjoy your relaxing videos! 🙂
Thanks!
Thanks Kat! I hope you have a great week.
Nice to see the countryside where you are, quite pretty
You made it to my happy place, Pt. Reyes Station! I am glad you like it too.
Next time you go, there’s really nice parking spots, quiet with really relaxing views of a former dairy farm with hills in the background.
It’s very close to the Pt. Reyes Fire Station, one street over along side the fence of the farm. Check it out.
Though I don’t know how much longer it will be there as I think this former dairy farm was bought by a developer to build 27 homes in the same spot. 😢
Truly amazing how much can be said about coffee😂 You are now on pause while I take an intermission to make some, some light roast coffee. Switching to light roast since you suggested that the darker roasts have a burned taste. No Quick Marts in this town, much less a Metropolitan Market. Ok, back for the second half of a fun program with a cup of coffee!
P.S. Point Reyes...fantastic!! LOL the Earthquake Trail remark. I love your videos, Scott. Thank you! 👍😎🇨🇦🌮☕🧀
They say the mind is the first to go. Although I don’t remember who said that.
Ha ha!! @@StaticCamperVan
Just love how I get to feel the experience of an area because of how you share it. Passed through Pt. Reyes two years ago and was needing to reach Santa Cruz for an accommodation reservation, so didn't get to explore which was a disappointment. Hoping to retrace my entire west coast trip this year, but at the pace of a camper. Can't wait to go. Thanks for this lovely share ~
He channels Van life very well. Pun intended. ;)
True. I just relistened to the part where he reads the sign that says the horses may bite and cracked up, again, at the way he says, "well, that's just great"....too funny@@user-ik7rz4gg8u
@@juliebelize4285 I fealt the same way when he mentioned the horses biting. Cracked me up too!
Today finally a nice sunny day here
You're in my neck of the woods and I'm glad you are enjoying yourself !! I love rainy day hikes. The roads out to Point Reyes from Novato are so nice , especially during the rainy season, when all the hills are so green.. Nice video as always.
Lately I've been rolling up refried beans into a cigar shape.... I'll put them in a chicken roll up or whatever the meat is... add cheese... yellowbird Habanero
the let it brown in a cast iron pan... rolling it over several times... probably 8 to 10 minutes. "Refried beans" as a base.
Gee Scott your 55 degrees & Ny. Where im at was 58 today👍Sounds like Great COFFEE ☕☕☕🌅🌄🌞
I love getting a dose of the PNW from your vlogs. I live in a semi desert area so I miss the rain and lush green landscapes.
It's a little embarrassing but I love to drink Nescafe Gold Espresso. I love it on lazy weekends.
And the Cascades go clear to Tehama County/Lassen and Redding/Red Bluff, CA Mt. Shasta and Mt. Lassen are both volcanoes and part of the cascades!
Hello Scott! ❤️ Love your video! Tacos sound good! Thanks. Keep your feet warm!😇
Wow the miwoks are so close to the Ohlone tribe
Had to look up the Ohlone. Wasn’t familiar with them. Thanks for mentioning them.
Just saw your short that has the link to this video and enjoyed the joke about the earthquake so thought I would also enjoy your long form videos. You have a very pleasant voice too. I live in Scotland and it’s very interesting to see the different ancient buildings.
Edit: I did not expect to see Inverness on a map of the US.
thanks to my favorite van lifer of all times... ty
Thank you. You’re too kind
Wow! Great deal on the Larabars! My son likes those. I knew Grocery Outlet was awesome! 👍🏻😉
They don’t always sell the Larabars at such a good price. I got lucky
On my third listen. Nice and relaxing. 😌
Thanks Glenn
Great video Scott😊
Thanks Susan
You had me there with the carton of cigarettes! Boy for a split split fraction of a second
Love Your coffee recommendations always enjoy the show
Thanks, I appreciate it
I drink instant coffee during those times I run out of whole bean. Due to my time in the Navy I’m not too picky on my coffee. Lots of times I was just glad to have any that was available. Great video Scott, your doing great.
Ah, so you’re the instant coffee drinker I herd about
Thank you for sharing. So interesting. 😊
Another Awesome video!!
Love that area, thanks for sharing!
Yeah, I too used to get those L. Bars in the box at G.O., portable food that quickly satisfies hunger. And I'm finding the unsliced sour dough is the best tasting bread and freshest, just need a bread knife that's all. I'm now drinking 50/50, caffeinated/decaf, no more jitters. Yeah, the drive on Hwy 1 north to Fort Bragg is 'one of a kind', just watch out for the crows in Bodega Bay 'The Birds movie was filmed there', but you may be heading south ?....take care and safe travels !!
Thank you Scott for the tour! Enjoy!!
We so enjoyed this video on our super big TV last night. It's become an evening tradition for us after dinner every night to watch one of your many videos. Like the person said below, you are so genuine and we really enjoy your content.
Thanks Sharon. I appreciate you watching
I can’t believe you didn’t get something from the bakery!! lol
I walked past TWO bakeries! Two! What is wrong with me?!
You have to really enjoy cloudy weather and rain to live in the NW as beautiful as it is. As a Phoenician for over 30 yrs, I thrive in the sun. I do share your love for a good cup of coffee.
It’s sunnier here than I expected. If you want to see what the weather usually is like, here’s a video: th-cam.com/video/wo6xOByOXks/w-d-xo.htmlsi=GBRtSSBKY1aKAQkh
My uncle used work as a ranger at the park.we used to hold ceremonies in the round house there at the park.i miss goung there .
Great video Scott! Thank you! It is amazing how many people thought you are a smoker. Geez, that sarcasm flew right over their heads!
It kinda makes the joke funnier. Haha. Thanks Holly
@@StaticCamperVan it does!
Good to see you scott. I think it would be wonderful to live in a van and go wherever i feel like going whenever i feel like it. Enjoy life Scott!!! Happy dreams and safe travels❣️🎉
Scott what you can do to help when crossing a street at night is to have a flashlight that strobes. When you cross the street just point it down at the ground and strobe it as you walk across. Walking at night and not being visible is very dangerous.
I wanted something that doesn’t need batteries or to be charged. The new glow sticks are working great so far.
See you travel all over it's making me think about leaving San Diego traveling as well. Never traveled on my own before to seeing how you gracefully cross the map is good motivation to go explore. Awesome to see a new upload
At first when I discovered you I was hesitant to carry on because of the politics on the west Coast but threw caution to the wind and here I am watching someone somewhat obsessed with coffee...lol I do love the smell of it brewing and I've grown to enjoy your point of view, your clever ability to cook good food in an amazingly small space and your endless galavanting up and down the west coast. Still a puzzle to me why you don't throw caution to the wind and venture east... I've spent my life (so far)on the east coast. Thanks for the ride.
Nice rainy day video.😊
Keep on keeping on brother and thanks for all the videos of your journeys 😊
Thanks for watching Nick
:) THANKS MUCH for sharing! WELL DONE and like the idea of the little Glow Stick! ENJOY and ALL the BEST! Cheers! :)
❤ Good Evening 🌆✨ Scott🌞I guess this is the rainy season! Its going t rain here in Ny. For 3 days straight 🙃 Your sour dough bread probley has to be grilled! With some Tomatoes 🍅 Nice trail👍Looks like Pioneer ing on Indian land👍It looks like a Mountain Lion had Dinner at the Hut! I think i read something about Cats leave a part of organ from their catch👍👌✌️🤞🙌🙏✝️💜🌟🇺🇸🤩
Outstanding content bud, masterfully filmed and narrated!

❤ Wow Scott 🌞 $7 for Premium Gourmet Coffee ☕ i would have bought 2 after 1st cup to taste! Thank you for sharing your Adventures! Have a Great Night see y on the next 1👍✌️🤞👌🤩🇺🇸🙌🙏🌛🌝
Great video Scott . Love your sense of humor.
Thanks Kelly
I feel warmer just looking at your little lamp.
Thank you for the hike in the rain❤ it was absolutely beautiful, along with your sense of humor 🌝 you are in the weather climate that I cannot do , so for now I'm camped out in my van in much warmer weather enjoying watching you 😂You are absolutely right when it comes to our home on wheels having mechanical issues can put a damper on things , I'm thinking, you have a solution to the problem? I wish you the best and safe travels during the California storms, burrrr
What a lovely adventure!! Thanks for showing us the last traces of the Miwok! ... we didn't see a single biting horse, tho lol ... maybe nipping deer? Be safe up there Scott. ... Loving the longer posts 😺💜
Oh, I made sure to stay away from the horses
@@StaticCamperVan ... just watched again, and I'm wondering if your cell phone would stop overheating with a new battery? ... oh Yeah, did you see that part of the Lost Trail that broke off a couple of days ago? looked like a nice-sized chunk! 😺💜
@violetatcontentboutique7188 it is wishful thinking on my part that a new battery will solve the problem. There’s a good chance there are other issues going on with this phone.
I did see the slide. Not surprising but a little sad for the loss of the trail
@@StaticCamperVan - yep sad loss. I thought of you when I saw the news ... btw, that was the Biggest slug I've Ever seen! It looked as big as your hand! Yikes!! ... have a good nite, Scott 😺💜
Hello! Thanks for another great video. I feel your pain about wasting money on the dark roast coffee. Is it possible to dilute it with some extra light roast beans to bring it back to more of a light roast flavor? Just a thought.
As for the grilled cheese sandwiches, I've been a full time traveller for almost 10 years &, recently, I took a monthly Air BnB with a kitchen. Grilled cheese, with Mexican cheeses, have become my new foodie addiction! Lol!
Today, I decided to make a pot of cauliflower soup. As the recipe progressed, I added some leftover purple cabbage. When it was cooked and blended, I ended up with a lovely creamy purple soup & a grilled cheese. It was a happy accident.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Hi Scott. Great video!
Thanks!
I've treasured yr videos for a good long time now, so am happy to be seeing my own stomping grounds thru yr eyes..thank you!
found myself wondering if you have any plans to explore the town of Bolinas if you are still in the area?
Wishing you safe and joyful travels ! (and maybe a new transmission soon?)
Thanks Lisa. This whole area was never a place I researched before. I hope to get around and see more of it.
Well , im hoping youll check out Bolinas..i think you just might enjoy its quirkiness..@@StaticCamperVan
Having my morning coffee and enjoying the "virtual ride along" with you is a great way to start the day! It's raining here in Virginia too 🙂
Thanks for riding along
A rainy Scott video with coffee at my desk. I'll take that. Thanks, Scott. from Scotland 🤣
I absolutely love the rain…I’m a more rainy person than sun
Nice video and cheese sandwich
Interesting Indian ruins.
Hey, I know someone that has been known to enjoy Tasters Choice And Or Classico Instant Coffees.
Im looking forward though to replenishing my supply of Fidalgo dark roast.
Absolutely Scot you keep it real
Aww the Deers are so Beautiful 😍❤️ Wow Wounder if theres any open cracks in the trail there from Quake? 👍✌️🤞👌🤩🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙌🙏
Hopefully you are drinking organic decaf because non organic uses solvents to decaffeinate non organic coffee. Enjoying the content.
I only drink swiss water decaf. But as I said, no more decaf until I can buy the good stuff
Awesome video
Thanks Alvin
👋 Scott 😊
Hi from Seattle!
Thank You.
Look into the "go phones". They are the ones that people who buy minutes often buy. I've had really good luck with them. This one I have had for 3 years and the one before I had for 7 years. I get the best ones they sale. It is about a 1/3rd to a 1/4th of the price of the latest phone out.
Good to hear the phone is working well for you. I’m not sure the Go phones are a good choice for me as I would then need to buy a camera to record my videos
Looks like a really cool area❤
A surprisingly nice area
@@StaticCamperVan very cool. Safe travels..
LOL at your subs who try to scold you. You are all grown up.You can do whatever your little heart desires.🐢🐩🐕🐶🌺✨🌊🌙🌈
😊
This is a good time to be in Arcata - students are all gone on Spring Break. 😂 it was a beautiful day up here too - drove through on my way home.😊
Not going to lie, I miss Humboldt. Hope you had an awesome trip
@@StaticCamperVan I’ve been watching vanlifers for three years, planning and researching and I finally got to live it for a couple months - it was awesome! And I learned a ton from the experience.
Enjoyed the walk through Point Reyes but what happened to the cows???! Twenty years ago, they were everywhere to make some of the yummiest cheese. Yummmm-Fogline coffee-I loaded up. As always an enjoyable video.
There are a number of dairy farms in the area. Some of the hiking trails go through cattle grazing land.
Love the recent locations. Hardcore Espresso, 81 Bloomfield Rd, Sebastopol, CA 95472, if you are still around Sonoma County.
Hello Scott, Your very consistant. The narriative is interesting and never disappoints followers. Youcbring is along to place many of us wouid never see and give such a close up look at it all. Im glad you enjoy your lifestyle even after this many years. You have masterrd all the nuanced of the vsn dwelling lifestyle. I wish for you a healthy and enriching expierence daily. Yes there are challenges and worries but that's everywhere. I want financial security for you and successful interactions to getting your van transmission and engine contingencies solved. Seems like they have you on hold for that and are taking a wait and see strategy. Not sure thats fair enough for you? You elevate the little bit things in life like good coffee grilled cheese sandwiches and simple comforts. Wish everyone recognized thatcthise things are golden. ❤
A reconditioned iPhone 14 is less expensive than a new iPhone.
I purchased mine 2 years ago-- runs beautifully and I use many apps for work and daily gps.
Had to pause you and make a coffee. First cup in 3 days. I've been drinking hot tea. I'm trying to go back to drinking black coffee. Got in the habit of adding heavy cream and I think it's causing histamine issues. Loved your content.
Hey Scott! Your content is absolutely fantastic, I look forward to every single video you put out! 😊 I've been thinking, could you possibly make a video exploring Stinson Beach and Bolinas? They're just a short drive from Point Reyes, and I think your perspective would make for an amazing watch! Keep up the awesome work!
Thank you. I’m not sure if I will be able to get down to Bolinas and Stinson this trip but it’s on the list.
Yeah, some of those towns up where you're at is what made us all say back in the 70's ( and some still say), 'ain't nothing like up north'. Glad to know for the most part it's Tesla free too. Down here in the end part of O.C they're everywhere. Curious thing though. The biggest thrift store around here, can't find good parking lately because of the Tesla shoppers. I figure they're still thrifty at heart at the end of the day, and the middle too.
For your next coffee
Thanks so much, Dude!
@@StaticCamperVan thanks for your awesome vids.
28:27 I only like light roast too! Easier on my tummy for one and I like the taste better! Also, must have half and half!😀☕️
Don't mind me, I'm just walking through your living room... 🤣🦌
In every van life group I've visited. There's ALWAYS a Kno-it-all Ned and his wife Karen. Telling everyone what the law is without providing code(s). They are "Wrong but Strong!" They are as wrong but holding strong in what they've been told and believe. Annnd, there's no changing their minds.
As always, Thumbs up!😎👍
It’s on purpose that I mention these things at the end of the video so as to not ruffle feathers
I like you, you are so human. I am on my second adventure with you and you are keeping it real.
Thanks Leslie
I hear what you say about the 9th Circuit Court ruling. Most cities don't hassle people legally parked and sleeping in vehicles but in some cities police will still aggressively hassle vehicle sleepers. 😕
I do my best to pass on information about cities that break federal laws. I also talk about the majority of cities that are law abiding. I spend my time and money accordingly and hope everyone else does too
❤
I absolutely love the Point Reyes National Seashore as well as the Point Reyes Station! My other happy place is Stinson Beach!
Would love to know more about your mic and little windcat thingee. I looked in your Amazon store links, but didn't see anything in there for it.
The mic is a Pocket Wireless by Deity but has been discontinued. You might be able to find some old stock. I bought it from B&H Photo.
@@StaticCamperVan thank you! I like your sound quality and figured it must be due to the mic you are using.
