    Thanks for the video Brian ! It seems unfortunate that a permanent residence is all but necessary to get a driver's license, register a vehicle, get insurance, vote and have many of the freedoms that most of us take for granted. I recently read about the struggles of a 70 year-old disabled Vietnam Veteran who had his ID and his possessions stolen, had lost contact with his family. It was incredibly hard for him to survive. This guy had some PTSD but wasn't aggressive or an addict. He was quite articulate when he wasn't in a stressful situation. He was eventually "rescued" by a cop that took time to listen to his story, took an interest and helped him connect with social service workers that could assist him in reestablishing his legal identity and reconnecting with his family.

      " helped him connect with social service workers " far too many people are clueless on how to go about getting info on social services. In my travels I hooked up with soup kitchens, food pantries, etc where people there were often hitched up with local social services. Then there are city, county, state websites.

    I travel that road often between northern Nevada and 'Vegas. That road is also one of my alternate routes when I travel northern Nevada to southern CA when snow storms cover Mammoth and Bishop.
    I've stayed a couple times at that RV park. Like you say, it's quiet and reasonably priced. That location is also close to Death Valley Park for exploring too. The Alien gift shop has a lot of quirky alien themed stuff that I can't seem to resist every time I stop there. The restaurant there is also very good for breakfast! However, it's been a year since last time I ate there.
    Good luck on your stuff!!

    When we changed our state to Nevada in 2023, we were told by DMV we had to stay 30 days before we could apply for our licenses. But when we went in, a different DMV clerk said we had to bring in a rental receipt for an additional 30 days. I think it depends on the office and the staff’s interpretation of the regulations. In the front of the DMV manual it says specifically new residents “must obtain their new license WITHIN THE FIRST 30 DAYS” upon arrival in Nevada.

    Great video, Brian, very interesting to someone who is not a van lifer! I'm curious what happens with health insurance when you change residency between states? I have a few friends who do live on the road and some of them have had difficulty finding coverage in their state of residency that provides acceptable (or any) coverage outside of that state. Thought I'd also mention, once you pick up your trailer a worthwhile spot to check out nearby is Spicer Ranch near Beatty. They have a MTB trail network that is pretty fun and free (by donation) camping with restrooms and showers.

People pack in very tight most if not all living there, junk cars, right behind the main road loud trucks the entire time, addons to trailers just trashy. This place and the amenities look very good for the money. thanks for making this series, I'll most likely follow this same path next spring early summer so thanks for sharing the details!

    • @nonya.bizness
      @nonya.bizness วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      you mean to establish a physical address? because owning a piece of raw land out here doesn't typically do that, because raw land doesn't have a street address you can write on a form.

    • @angeloangelojoseph1494
      @angeloangelojoseph1494 21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      I bought a parcel, 1/5 acre for $2k around 20 yrs ago. It came with a physical address on Lynn Ct. I still own it. There's still no homes, or streets on the whole subdivision.

    • @nonya.bizness
      @nonya.bizness 20 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@angeloangelojoseph1494 1/5th of an acre of undeveloped land? with no road? so basically landlocked? for what purpose did you buy it? in even most remote parts of rural new mexico where i wander, less than an acre and you can't legally live on it without putting in septic.
      and i'm confused- no streets but has an address? how does that work?
      anyway, i don't see the benefit of shelling out thousands and being bothered with property taxes just to get a fake physical address. because when the government requires you to provide your physical address, it wants to know where you ~live~, so giving them the address of a vacant piece of land is technically lying.
      not that i care or am judging-- all us nomads are forced to give a physical address where none of us actually live, and there is absolutely no way to not fudge that.

    We had used our Daughters (& families) address for over 30 years. Recently we found that our Insurance Provider added young family members (insured elsewhere) to our Policy, without our knowledge or consent.
    Found out by a threatening e-mail to "pay up or be canceled".
    We were never asked in over 30 years "who used this address".
    We were stuck paying for the already insured youngsters...we canceled our Carrier immediately after 30 years of membership.

It drops 1% a year for 10 years then stops and that's your price for tags forever....I actually left nevada because of this. The tag price is actually more then income tax in idaho... power and natural gas are also about 10x higher in nevada (that won't matter in rv).... it is an awesome state tho...

    Maybe taking a few pictures which prove your rv and you are in this receipt. Just an idea.

    Do you know how Kelly is doing after dear Hobbs's passing? I haven't seen a video from her recently, which is understandable. But I can't remember her channel's name; I am subscribed to it. Good luck in your new home state.

    Good luck Brian. I think after a few days, going to the DMV might work. Looks perfect for your needs.

    Hey Brian, hope you're staying safe there... if you see bright lights coming down from the sky just go the other way ...aliens...you might want to do like some of the other people mentioned and go in after a few days ...that way you'll know if the receipt that you were given is going to work.... I'm sure you've already thought of this well.... happy holidays and safe travels to everyone

    Lived in NV from 2012-2018 and enjoyed it. Drove past that area you are staying numerous times. Beatty isn't too bad and you can do some thorough exploring in Death Valley in the upcoming 30 days!

    Choosing a home base for future health care needs? Consider the culture of your choice? I be in south Cali. Best public benefits, especially for us oldies. Plenty of cheap / free spots and food is cheap. Talk about nice weather. Not isolated from society. Stay safe. Thank you.

    Cheap RV living has a video of how to get residency without paying for a hotel or campsite. If the site was 3-400 it might be worth avoiding the hassle but for 800 it might be worth it.
    The process was set up for homeless people but there is no income requirement and you are technically homeless just not destitute.
    You should check out the video it might save you money

    Nevada is reputed to have high car insurance rates due to the casino goers involved in drunk driving accidents. Another factor, in my experience, is the prevalence of aggressive drivers in Las Vegas. For this reason, when traveling through LV I try to avoid the interstates and drive on the back streets. There is a lot of good camping outside of LV though.

    Maybe too late now, but wondered if any RV park might accept payment for a booking for you, that you don't actually take up, but which you pay for? Book for a stay somewhere cheap for a 9 yr old RV, but never show up, or 'get delayed by a month', and camp somewhere you like for free. This would not work for everyone though.
