Most would disagree with me, but the real world needs cops like Sipowicz. Sipowicz had his own internal struggles. He obviously had PTSD. He would smack a perp around when they deserved it, and he NEVER forgot about the people who were victims or why he wore the badge. Dennis Franz is a legend.

    • @hungram5170

Most would probably agree with you. There's a time and a place for cops like Sipowicz. I'm left leaning and generally can't stand cops but I'm a realist first. Some people are what they are and need to be met on the same level. This murdering turd didn't get beat enough.

This was the period when NYPD Blue was really firing on all cylinders. The cast was perfect, the writing tight and intense, every actor on his A-game. Must-see TV would have been pale as a description for these seasons.

While I don't know the origin of the idea that led to this scene, I do know that many of the crimes portrayed were taken directly from real cases in NYC. Whether inspired by real events or not, the writers nailed the self-centered arrogance and sense of being victimized that some of these truly delusional murderers feel. This guy, like some real killers, truly felt he had done no wrong and had been beaten for no reason.

Those were murder-shots. All aimed at bursting the thin high-pressure Renal Artery which causes death by internal bleeding: then it’s, “he fell down the stairs.” Successive punches and knees to the kidneys: a South African police-special, especially against carjackers. Andy knew his business.
