Next video is gonna be all about the corset! I can't wait - seriously!!! Thank you so much for all your insight & please let me know what you think of the cape/veil situation!!
My thoughts about the vail. . . . That might be a choice for after your hairstyle is decided. You might not want a vail holding down a style you worked hard to put up.
If you did the veil starting from the head like in the video it would be cool to put beads like the beaded headcovers that are inspired by the 17th century i think, but the beads almost falling down the bottom being less at the bottom, something like that would be really pretty
When I saw your drawing, I immediately understood what you wanted with your lace and flowers. You don't really have time, but stump work and lace embroidery would be amazing. If you have creative friends, consider a bridal tea where they can craft additions for your dress. Then you'll be draped in the love of your friends as well.
“I hope this isn’t boring to watch” GIRL. We are INVESTED. Anyone who thinks any of your content is boring clearly just wouldn’t be a fan of you and or your work so don’t worry about that we LOVE you and have been waiting for this moment! ❤
When you said the story about a girl walking through the woods who has picked up moss and butterflies, my thought was definitely adding a beaded embroidered detail to the bottom of the dress where you get micro beads and see them down together in clumps to make it look like moss! Then, adding beaded detailing to the structured flower like element your plan on incorporating into the bodice of things like butterfly’s and ladybugs while maintaining a fabric only for the flowers and if incorporating beading, to use clear beading or even like a glue or crystals to make it look like dew. 😍🍄🌲🌿🌸🌸🪺💐🌷🌷🪻👰🏻♀️ For the veil, I loooove the idea of the cape 🫠😍 you could even still do the flower clips in your hair and affixed, long lace ribbon?! Idk. Anyway you spin it, it’s going to be beautiful! 🙌🏼🩷
Hi Carly, I have just watched your video and just wanted to give you some of my knowledge. I have worked on and made wedding dresses in the UK for the last 23 years. Your sketch was beautiful. And my advice would be for your frame to go with the 2 piece option. Have 3 layers of good quality cotton, bottom to line the garment, middle for boning, and top layer for the actual garment fabric. And my advice for the skirt would be to have 3 layers of Silk tulle for the main fabric then you 2 layers of cotton lining under. If you wish more volume to the skirt attach netting to the lining. This would give you a light airy dress. oh and if you want to age the fabric...... coffee is perfect! Good luck. Sue x
Team bodice veil! I think it aligns with your personal style and inspiration better. Also when you have a lot of fabric and tulle and flowers and details, it can start to look overwhelming if you go from head to foot. Having a visual break at your neck and upper back will allow for those details to shine, versus being part of more fabric busyness, if that makes sense! So excited for this journey for you! As someone whose wedding was rescheduled 3 times due to the pandemic and ultimately cancelled PLUS my handmade dress that I designed was stolen by the dressmakers, I’m living my own dress dreams through you! I ended up having the sweetest home wedding with a RTW cocktail dress and I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but I am so stoked for you!
I love your idea for the cape-style veil that attaches to the bodice. I'm also enchanted by the story of the bride walking through the forest and exchanging bits of her perfect dress for bits of imperfect nature as she goes!
1) the braid montage cracked me up "don't talk to my husband. Ever. Again." 😂😂 2) I didn't even realize I was watching with my head tilted till you mentioned it😂 3) I could just see the glow coming from you as you finished that drawing and I think that is so beautiful. Can't wait to continue to watch the process it's going to be beautiful and so special no matter what!
Gorgeous! Carly if you’re having a love for Dior moment, I’d really recommend the film ‘Mrs Harris goes to Paris’, such a lovely cosy sweet film with lots of Dior gorgeousness!!!
Wow, that design is beautiful. I love the structural flower idea for the arm straps. Just lovely. As for the veil, knock up a toile and try wearing them for a few hours. See which one annoys you the least, which one makes you hot and bothered. Comfort is an underrated luxury on your wedding day. ❤
The train from the bodice is so beautiful but the veil in the hair is giving such a strong 1920s bride vibe!! It really mimics the iconic veil headpiece that everybody wore in that era! + you’re getting married in the 20s, so 20s inspo just kinda seems magic to me.
excellent advice about trying to let go of perfectionism - I also find it is what stops me from getting started on something. it will become the perfect dress to you simply by being the dress you get married in.
i got teary-eyed with you seeing your sketch come to life, and hearing your vision of the bride who took a long walk through the forest and the forest became her. SO enchanting. you will truly be a vision!
love the bodice veil idea! it could give you the train look without having to construct that as well two birds one stone sitch. teared up at your sketch. it’s going to be STUNNNNNING
when you finished your drawing and were just staring at it at your desk you had such a sparkle in your eye! even before you said it was making you emotional you can just see how much you love it and the relief you felt realizing that your drawing captured what you wanted
I made my own tea length wedding dress inspired by Audrey Hepburn. It had a boat neck bodice with off the shoulder sleeves, but certainly didn’t need an internal coreslet. That’s SO incredibly complicated. The boning in the bodice itself for mine was more than sufficient. I only had to do two mock ups of the bodice to get it Perfect. Either make a detached corset , or just do lovely boning in the dress itself. I think having your train created from your veil is a great option! You can take it off for the reception when the real celebration begins! You will want to dance with all the people, and spin around with joy! Consider making an oversized bow on the back at the small of your waist. It gives fullness at the bum that looks beautiful to the audience during the ceremony.
I added a lot of vines and tule flowers to my dress and made a long detachable tulle skirt that you could see the dress through. It’s literally the prettiest thing I own. We had a small wedding at my house and I put so many flower vases up for a garden feel. It’s the best feeling to have knowing you made it and honestly no one will ever be able to really capture you like you can 🥰
I think the bodice train is beautiful and maybe a little more functional on your big day. One thing I recall from my big day many years ago is that I did a veiled train from my hair and it was able to detach after the service but we had a little bit of a stressor because it got caught in my hair when I was trying to detach it.
I love the idea of the hair clip veil! The flower clips are so 'you' so it would be lovely for the veil to be attached to them! I love audrey hepburn films, especially her outfits in Sabrina x
Suggestion for the veil situation! You could have both the head veil AND the cape veil-made out of the same material and colour it would probably look pretty seamless! Cuz the head veil is a fantastic, classic look, but my concern would be that if you want it very long, that could end up putting a lot of weight on your head, which usually leads to a headache pretty quick! The head is very sensitive to these things. So you could get the best of both worlds! Have a shorter veil start at your head, but get all the length and volume from the cape! (I also just adore the cape veil idea). Absolutely loving watching your process!
i really think you have a beautiful vision for this dress!! the part where you told the story of you walking through the forest felt so genuine and magical and lovely and i can't wait to see your vision come to life
Eeep! The cape-like train is so lovely! It’s the first thing I thought of when you finished the front!!! It feels like something Hepburn would have worn too!
I love the cape veil situation it’s so gorgeous. I feel like the veil in your hair would take away from the braids. Love your videos I’m so excited to see the process !!!
This is so exciting, you’re making me want to sew a couture dress! Please, please, please, stick with your flowers and ribbons sleeve idea. I feel like it would be such a perfect expression of your own beautiful soul. ❤️
I really like the idea of the cape attaching to the corset of the dress. I think that would look perfect with your preferred hairstyle of plaits for the day. Also gives you the option to wear some sort of twinkly tiara, to match the top of the dress, which you could wear for the ceremony and remove later for dancing. 😸 Katt x
This is so exciting! I’m so thrilled that you’re taking us on this journey with you. I really love the shoulder cape because it flows so well with the dress concept and doesn’t cover your dress! Can’t wait to see morel
I love these longer form videos, listening to your ideas while I work is relaxing. Also the summer rainstorms are perfectly paired with the sewing projects you're working on!!
I love the cape idea! You should definitely still have a veil but the cape is so gorgeous its gotta make it in the final and could take the place of high/low/train situation
both options with the veil are beautiful! If you decide on the veil on the head, you need to make sure, that your shoulder pieces will not be below it. otherwise it could look a bit wonky.
I love the cape train idea 😍 if your worried about missing out on the head veil you could do that as well and have it end at your finger tips which would give it a layered extra touch. When you were drawing your dress I kept thinking of Ever After; your dress isn't anything like that lol but it gives me that vibe.
This is so beautiful! Also side note - when you were talking about tulles and petticoats it reminded me of the 2015 Cinderella movie - the skirt (though much much bigger than yours) moves so nicely and the petticoat has hints of slightly different colours. It is whimsical and would allow for thrifting different fabrics too. There are some videos on this and breakdown of the layering for the movement that might interest you!
CARLY!!! Watching you get emotional with your drawing literally made me cry and I've never even had a boyfriend!! I cannot wait to watch you through every step of your work. Both options for the veil are lovely but I am drawn to the headpiece idea - especially if your fiance were to make the clips as I believe he has made ones for you in the past. I think that would be so lovely and special and you could even tuck your something blue within the clip. Oh or how wonderful would it be if your corset/corselette (however you spell that) was blue or at least had a blue band! You have so many fun options and I can't wait to see what all you come up with. P.s. this video was not boring in the slightest!! I think I could listen to you speak about the most intricate details and techniques for hours so don't overcomplicate your videos
I have a dance background and was thinking it looked like a ballet costume - and then you referenced romantic tutus as inspiration! Can’t wait to see this come to life!
Also, you might look at the Balanchine midsummer night’s dream as cape inspiration (karinska costumes, I believe) if you decide to go that route! The capes are sooo beautiful
I love the cape idea! I think it would feel so elegant and whimsical to have a veil/cape... and maybe a shorter more manageable veil for flipping it over your head easier..? The veil with the flowers reminds me of Daisy from the great Gatsby. 1920s vibes 😉 it's also okay to change your mind along the way!
Have to say I find myself looking forward to your videos. Love your energy and insight about sewing. As I am about to start learning verrry soon!!! ✨✨✨🌼🌼🌼
i love the temporary veil at the end and it frames your face so beautifully. i got a similar one off of etsy recently which was a 50's replica. i am loving this series cos i too am designing my wedding dress and going to be making my own using my mothers dress from the 80's. picture all the lace and skirt volume from the 80;s and beaded puff sleeves. over the next year after i graduate i will be starting to make it my own which im so excited about and have a plan in my head, and luckily i study fashion design at uni so i have a good amount of knowledge of deconstruction and corseting. love you and your videos xxx
Re veil, it would be so gorgeous to do the one clipped onto the back of the bodice that trains out, AND an elbow or finger length veil on your head. The short elbow/finger length feels very in line with the ankle length Audrey inspired fit, but then the back cape veil gives you the drama and length
I am so excited to see this come together!! Obsessed with the floral idea and the poof. My vote is definitely attach to bodice, I love that look/idea. But no matter what I know it will be stunning!!
Its awesome that you're even considering getting some resources from opp shops! Even cutting up existing wedding dresses would be a great use of resources. Love your design as well.
I like the idea of the the bodice veil! And you using thrifted materials…. It is one beautiful day and being your most authentic in the moment is my advice! You have got this!
I loved the way wearing a veil on my head/in my hair made my bridal outfit feel like a full body experience. Love the look and idea of both your options, you can’t go wrong! Both will add drama and magic to your look
Hello Carly ,I saw you on TH-cam and as soon as I saw you I subscribed to your channel, since I've been watching you ,,you have inspired me so very much I live in the USA and I love your channel, I've been sewing pretty much my whole life and since I've been watching you, it's like we are learning together, thank you so much for being your true self and I love your adventurous style,
Highly recommend watching Frieda Lepold's dressmaking videos, she makes amazing structured bodices and works with tulle and her dresses all have really unique narratives.
Veil- my first inspiration is a two part, do both ideas and have a layered veil. Long cape like layer attached to the dress/shoulder area, short layer attached to hair clips. I’d be worried about messing up my hair so probably wouldn’t be inclined to something I’d be fiddling with throughout the experience in my hair. Thank you for sharing this journey with us! Loved the video!
We're here for you Miss Carly! Yes, I see your cheerleadering section near the horizon. You got this - absolutely with your little helpers from around the world!
So excited we get to go on this journey with you! I'm also a sewist named Carly from Aus and it's my dream to make my wedding dress too 😆 Living vicariously through you and this project! Can't wait to watch it come to life
I love the visual break the cape veil gives, so I'd say team cape veil. I also just wanted to say I love the detail of this video, as an amateur sewist and knitter I find it fascinating and inspiring to watch the process.
Your drawings are so beautiful! What a treat to witness you putting your dreams to paper, and the design is so “you”! I love love the bodice cape train idea, it seems so elegant and unique. So excited to follow along on this journey with you 😍
Carly, I have no doubt that you will make your dress beautiful! It has been such a joy watching you grow your sewing skills. You have come so far and accomplished so much! I know this task feels a bit overwhelming but try to enjoy the process! You got this!
carly your vision is gorgeouuussss 😍🥰💖🫶🏻 my vote is for the more cape-style veil because then you can play around more with bits and bobs in your hair! leafy/viney/flowery bits that kinda look like you collected them on your woods walk, but also is it giving haphazard tiara?? ✨ never too many details, always so excited to watch any wedding dress content you want to give us 🥲💖🫶🏻✨
Its an absolute delight to see you so excited and thrilled to be dreaming about your dress. When it comes to the veil, the placement will depend on what you want it to accomplish for you and the overall look.
I am team bodice veil! I think it would fit your personality and the design of the dress perfectly! I will also say, as a previous bride who wore a veil on my head - I felt I had limited head movement and couldn't wait to take it off.
Excited to follow your dream with you ❣️ I love the bodice veil look. You could have a shorter veil overlap it coming from the back of your head, clipped between your flowers.👰
I love that you shared all parts of your process and what you were thinking!!! I love seeing the process of you coming to your decisions and getting to know the inspiration and the options you were looking at :)
Just weighing in on the veil discussion: you said in the last video that the feeling of having the veil in your hair and over your shoulders was delightful and you’d miss out on that with the cape/clip situation. It would also leave your shoulders super open. I thought I didn’t want a veil but then I tried a super super light fingertip length and it was lovely, and didn’t take away from my beautiful lacy dress
You could always go with a lace up corset and a panel that buttons/zips closer to cover the laces? I think lacing up really helps a corset fit and then nearer the day you could sew the last panel in (leaving room for adjustment?) If you wanted a hairstyle that was a bit more secure to anchor the veil to you could pin the braids up milkmaid/renaissance style? (then take them down for the dancing :D)
I don't think any other youtuber manages to put an actual smile on my face with their videoes.. But you, lovely amazing Carly, manage to put the biggest smile on my face with every single one of your videoes
I don't have any recommendations or sources but I wanted to say I'm really excited for this series and this dress!! Ahhh!!! Can't wait to see it come to life!!
For material: check if you have some family that still has their wedding dress and ask if you can use the fabric. My mum had beautiful wild silk, that has this wild look and since she was divorced she was totally ok to cut it up
Thoughts on the Veil / Cape - depends on the weight - many people struggle with having the veil in their hair as it falls out (i don't think this would be the case with your hair because it has a lovely texture to it) but if it is very long and heavy then it might be a bit uncomfortable and potentially mess up your hair a bit... Especially if it is dragging on the floor as people might step on it or it might catch on things. So I would go for in the top and maybe have buttons / poppers that it can attach to (could also be used to attach the sleeves if you want to take those off for dancing) Or potentially hook and eyes/use a chain stitch for the hook to attach to. I definitely think you don't have to use really expensive fabric for the dress - organdie will also be great for the flowers as it's very structured just try not to iron / steam it too much :)
The way you talked about the veil reminded me of a lot of 1920s veils that kinda had the little cap or a cap shape where it covered the top of the head and maybe had feathers or something sticking on the sides
I'm also making my own wedding dress right now! I chose an ankle length just like you, but I'm making a detachable lower flounce that reaches the floor, attached at the bottom of the dress with a 6 meter zipper. It has a train, hence the detachable train just like you! I look forward to seeing your dress!
I love the cape idea! I know this is just the beginning and the dress isn’t even a physical thing yet, but when you sketched it I was like “ok now THAT is the vibe”. I feel like it’s still very magical and whimsical and YOU without being too over the top. The veil idea is still cute, but how many people could say they had a glittery, tulle fairy cape for their wedding?
Loooove the design!!! Like a fairy. I prefer the vail on the head, looks a bit 1910-1920s. I'm sticking around to see how it all comes out! Exciting :)
I LOVE your design! I can absoloutly see the flowerfairy feeling you described in your announcement video without beeing a costumy thing. And I like the bodice veil option.
Love watching your process! You can’t go wrong with either veil option. I have bought my dress but I’m giving myself 10 months to make the cape/shawl I want to wear with it!
Really enjoyed seeing the design process and love the idea of capturing what you adore so much about the garments in museums. The story you have in your mind about how the dress gets this way is such a lovely one. Congrats and excited to see it all come together!
how fun!!!! I had my dress made and the whole process of going to her studio, getting measured, the trials, it was so fun. It turned out great for my beach wedding here in Chile. I can't imagine how even more exciting it must be to live that process but with yourself making it! The Audrey Hepburn dress in Funny Face is so gorgeous, I remember also having that dress as inspiration plus the one she wears in Sabrina.
I reckon you should do both veils 😮 lowkey it’d be cool to have the top one rly sheer and coming half way down ur back and the other one more opaque going into a train or something (could be 3 tiers w/ train?) But the one coming from the back of the bodice is such a good idea u should deffs run with that 😎 dress looks amazing!! V excited to see where it goes
I think the first veil idea is lovely, it gives a really beautiful late 1910s-1920s look. The idea kind of reminds me of Annies veil in Mocking Jay part2. Im really excited for this project, your enthusiasm is so infectious 😊😍
I think that, to attach the cape to the back of the dress, large snaps would hold the cape more securely to the inside of the corset than hooks and eyes.
lol . . . Of course it was interesting! 🤣. Wonderful advice to keep the mindset “it’s just another dress” and know your comfort level with the fabrics. Thrifting for the bodice is a great idea. And the sketches are beautiful, very you. The leaves, floral, etc around the shoulders make perfect sense and seem a natural progression of the patchwork you’ve done before - you’re going 3D 😋!! One recommendation, veils get heavier than people think. Perhaps go with the train/veil attached to the back of the dress but keep a shorter layer on top that’s long enough to “cape” over your head (could be lightly pinned with combs or headpiece) for the ceremony and easily detach for the party. It could stay at the crown of your head or drop over your face if you want an unveiling moment during the ceremony. Totally Audrey Hepburn in the wedding photo shoot from FF! Best wishes! Cheering you on from Texas!
Next video is gonna be all about the corset! I can't wait - seriously!!! Thank you so much for all your insight & please let me know what you think of the cape/veil situation!!
I actually feel like the veil should begin at the top of the bodice because it feels kind of like wings, though both options look stunning!!❤
My thoughts about the vail. . . . That might be a choice for after your hairstyle is decided. You might not want a vail holding down a style you worked hard to put up.

i vote the veil headpiece incorporating those beautiful clips your fiance made you! i think that will be super special
It's such a privilege to be included in your journey ❤️🔥

I feel like you would love 1920s bridal veil styling. Like the way they used Juliet caps and beading a hair accessories back then🧚

OHHHhhh that is the nicest !!!!!!! Thanks for being here!!!
Ahhh you’re welcome. You are TRULY inspiring and soo excited to see how your wedding dress turns out!!! 🌼🌼🌼✨✨✨🤩🤩🤩
"don't talk to my husband" * hair whip * 😂😂😂😂 I can see why he loves you 😂
i love the temporary veil at the end and it frames your face so beautifully. i got a similar one off of etsy recently which was a 50's replica. i am loving this series cos i too am designing my wedding dress and going to be making my own using my mothers dress from the 80's. picture all the lace and skirt volume from the 80;s and beaded puff sleeves. over the next year after i graduate i will be starting to make it my own which im so excited about and have a plan in my head, and luckily i study fashion design at uni so i have a good amount of knowledge of deconstruction and corseting. love you and your videos xxx
But no matter what I know it will be stunning!!
the story of the bride walking through the forest and collecting elements of nature is soooo so beautiful
Head was completely tilted! Haha. Loved watching you unleash your creativity!
👰🏻👰🏻👰🏻
Its awesome that you're even considering getting some resources from opp shops! Even cutting up existing wedding dresses would be a great use of resources. Love your design as well.
I like the idea of the the bodice veil! And you using thrifted materials…. It is one beautiful day and being your most authentic in the moment is my advice! You have got this!
I loved the way wearing a veil on my head/in my hair made my bridal outfit feel like a full body experience. Love the look and idea of both your options, you can’t go wrong! Both will add drama and magic to your look
Hello Carly ,I saw you on TH-cam and as soon as I saw you I subscribed to your channel, since I've been watching you ,,you have inspired me so very much I live in the USA and I love your channel, I've been sewing pretty much my whole life and since I've been watching you, it's like we are learning together, thank you so much for being your true self and I love your adventurous style,
Girl, none of your videos are boring!
Consider felt for your flower “sleeves”. Can’t wait to see what you decide!!!! 👰♀️
Highly recommend watching Frieda Lepold's dressmaking videos, she makes amazing structured bodices and works with tulle and her dresses all have really unique narratives.
Option no1 for the veil is my favourite! Even the interfacing looked beautiful! 😂
Team cape, all the way! I love that!
I love the second option for your veil cape - my friend did that at her wedding and she was stunning.
Team veil cape!!! I think it's so dreamlike and more like you
Your drawings are so beautiful! What a treat to witness you putting your dreams to paper, and the design is so “you”! I love love the bodice cape train idea, it seems so elegant and unique. So excited to follow along on this journey with you 😍
Interlining with bones and interfacing is also a great way to have structure on the inside without seeing boning channels but still having a zipper.
✨ never too many details, always so excited to watch any wedding dress content you want to give us 🥲💖🫶🏻✨
these videos are so cute, wedding/wedding dress carly is so deep and deeply moved. boppy but slow and tender 🥲
This is such a cute design, definitely gives me ethereal forest fairy vibes ❤ cant wait to see how it goes
I vote for the cape veil! Either way, this design is beautiful. I'm looking forward to watching your process.
You could always go with a lace up corset and a panel that buttons/zips closer to cover the laces? I think lacing up really helps a corset fit and then nearer the day you could sew the last panel in (leaving room for adjustment?)
If you wanted a hairstyle that was a bit more secure to anchor the veil to you could pin the braids up milkmaid/renaissance style? (then take them down for the dancing :D)
I don't think any other youtuber manages to put an actual smile on my face with their videoes.. But you, lovely amazing Carly, manage to put the biggest smile on my face with every single one of your videoes
I don't have any recommendations or sources but I wanted to say I'm really excited for this series and this dress!! Ahhh!!! Can't wait to see it come to life!!
The pattern scout also always uses the word 'situation' .... I'm enjoying your videos 🎉
I love the idea of veil #1 option. I think it suits you so beautifully!
I love the cape attached to the back of the dress with your back exposed. I think it will be beautiful either way!
Cape style veil is my favorite. Such an exciting journey to watch as you create your dream!
I love the idea of the cape veil. It looks really classic in your drawing! I think it would be so beautiful! 🤍
It's so cute how your face just keeps lighting up all the time ❤
Loooove the design!!!
Love the cape idea! I’ve always been obsessed with Anastasia’s navy dress and I love the cape on that !
I reckon you should do both veils 😮 lowkey it’d be cool to have the top one rly sheer and coming half way down ur back and the other one more opaque going into a train or something (could be 3 tiers w/ train?)
But the one coming from the back of the bodice is such a good idea u should deffs run with that 😎 dress looks amazing!!
I can see you in this dress already and it is making my heart swell up!!!! Ahhhhhhh I am looking forward to each update about the dress 🌟
lol . .
I am absolutely obsessed with your dress design! It just feels so you. I cannot wait to see the creation process!!!!!
