Next video is gonna be all about the corset! I can't wait - seriously!!! Thank you so much for all your insight & please let me know what you think of the cape/veil situation!!
My thoughts about the vail. . . . That might be a choice for after your hairstyle is decided. You might not want a vail holding down a style you worked hard to put up.
If you did the veil starting from the head like in the video it would be cool to put beads like the beaded headcovers that are inspired by the 17th century i think, but the beads almost falling down the bottom being less at the bottom, something like that would be really pretty
When I saw your drawing, I immediately understood what you wanted with your lace and flowers. You don't really have time, but stump work and lace embroidery would be amazing. If you have creative friends, consider a bridal tea where they can craft additions for your dress. Then you'll be draped in the love of your friends as well.
I love your idea for the cape-style veil that attaches to the bodice. I'm also enchanted by the story of the bride walking through the forest and exchanging bits of her perfect dress for bits of imperfect nature as she goes!
Team bodice veil! I think it aligns with your personal style and inspiration better. Also when you have a lot of fabric and tulle and flowers and details, it can start to look overwhelming if you go from head to foot. Having a visual break at your neck and upper back will allow for those details to shine, versus being part of more fabric busyness, if that makes sense! So excited for this journey for you! As someone whose wedding was rescheduled 3 times due to the pandemic and ultimately cancelled PLUS my handmade dress that I designed was stolen by the dressmakers, I’m living my own dress dreams through you! I ended up having the sweetest home wedding with a RTW cocktail dress and I wouldn’t trade it for the world, but I am so stoked for you!
I love the idea of the hair clip veil! The flower clips are so 'you' so it would be lovely for the veil to be attached to them! I love audrey hepburn films, especially her outfits in Sabrina x
i got teary-eyed with you seeing your sketch come to life, and hearing your vision of the bride who took a long walk through the forest and the forest became her. SO enchanting. you will truly be a vision!
1) the braid montage cracked me up "don't talk to my husband. Ever. Again." 😂😂 2) I didn't even realize I was watching with my head tilted till you mentioned it😂 3) I could just see the glow coming from you as you finished that drawing and I think that is so beautiful. Can't wait to continue to watch the process it's going to be beautiful and so special no matter what!
when you finished your drawing and were just staring at it at your desk you had such a sparkle in your eye! even before you said it was making you emotional you can just see how much you love it and the relief you felt realizing that your drawing captured what you wanted
i really think you have a beautiful vision for this dress!! the part where you told the story of you walking through the forest felt so genuine and magical and lovely and i can't wait to see your vision come to life
I love the visual break the cape veil gives, so I'd say team cape veil. I also just wanted to say I love the detail of this video, as an amateur sewist and knitter I find it fascinating and inspiring to watch the process.
Eeep! The cape-like train is so lovely! It’s the first thing I thought of when you finished the front!!! It feels like something Hepburn would have worn too!
I think the bodice train is beautiful and maybe a little more functional on your big day. One thing I recall from my big day many years ago is that I did a veiled train from my hair and it was able to detach after the service but we had a little bit of a stressor because it got caught in my hair when I was trying to detach it.
both options with the veil are beautiful! If you decide on the veil on the head, you need to make sure, that your shoulder pieces will not be below it. otherwise it could look a bit wonky.
I really like the idea of the cape attaching to the corset of the dress. I think that would look perfect with your preferred hairstyle of plaits for the day. Also gives you the option to wear some sort of twinkly tiara, to match the top of the dress, which you could wear for the ceremony and remove later for dancing. 😸 Katt x
I don't think any other youtuber manages to put an actual smile on my face with their videoes.. But you, lovely amazing Carly, manage to put the biggest smile on my face with every single one of your videoes
I LOVE your design! I can absoloutly see the flowerfairy feeling you described in your announcement video without beeing a costumy thing. And I like the bodice veil option.
This is so exciting! I’m so thrilled that you’re taking us on this journey with you. I really love the shoulder cape because it flows so well with the dress concept and doesn’t cover your dress! Can’t wait to see morel
I have a dance background and was thinking it looked like a ballet costume - and then you referenced romantic tutus as inspiration! Can’t wait to see this come to life!
Also, you might look at the Balanchine midsummer night’s dream as cape inspiration (karinska costumes, I believe) if you decide to go that route! The capes are sooo beautiful
Love it. I like the idea of the train attached to the bodice rather than the hair clips. It’s interesting that you’ve take inspiration from “Funny Face” and Degas’ “Little Dancer” as neither of these were conventional beauties (in fact, at the time, the Little Dancer was considered very Less Than…. Some patrons were downright outraged by her). You are naturally gorgeous, but seem rather disarmingly unaware of the fact and have displayed some offbeat preferences - in the BEST way possible of course. I love your attitude and love your videos. The people with the happiest marriages are those that count their blessings and I reckon you are one of them. So, congratulations on the engagement, the dress (already stunning; and you certainly have what it takes to bring it to fruition) and a long and happy life with your beloved. ❤
Really enjoyed seeing the design process and love the idea of capturing what you adore so much about the garments in museums. The story you have in your mind about how the dress gets this way is such a lovely one. Congrats and excited to see it all come together!
I was sooooo excited to see the next installment of the wedding dress extravaganza! My niece has asked me to make her wedding dress so this is really helpful. Wedding dresses are so much more fun now than when my friends were getting married. Playful and personal. Also looking forward to the Robert Wood dress. LOVE his patterns for fabric usage, With Wendy made the bow dress on her channel, you might want to have a peek at. I am team head veil. If the fabric is very transparent so you can see the features of the dress through it. It will also make the veil much lighter, almost like you are stepping out of the mist of the forest, you could even have a tinge of green foliage clinging to the ends of the veil, very elfin like. Enjoying the journey with you.
Its an absolute delight to see you so excited and thrilled to be dreaming about your dress. When it comes to the veil, the placement will depend on what you want it to accomplish for you and the overall look.
i love the temporary veil at the end and it frames your face so beautifully. i got a similar one off of etsy recently which was a 50's replica. i am loving this series cos i too am designing my wedding dress and going to be making my own using my mothers dress from the 80's. picture all the lace and skirt volume from the 80;s and beaded puff sleeves. over the next year after i graduate i will be starting to make it my own which im so excited about and have a plan in my head, and luckily i study fashion design at uni so i have a good amount of knowledge of deconstruction and corseting. love you and your videos xxx
The way you talked about the veil reminded me of a lot of 1920s veils that kinda had the little cap or a cap shape where it covered the top of the head and maybe had feathers or something sticking on the sides
how fun!!!! I had my dress made and the whole process of going to her studio, getting measured, the trials, it was so fun. It turned out great for my beach wedding here in Chile. I can't imagine how even more exciting it must be to live that process but with yourself making it! The Audrey Hepburn dress in Funny Face is so gorgeous, I remember also having that dress as inspiration plus the one she wears in Sabrina.
This is so exciting, you’re making me want to sew a couture dress! Please, please, please, stick with your flowers and ribbons sleeve idea. I feel like it would be such a perfect expression of your own beautiful soul. ❤️
I am team bodice veil! I think it would fit your personality and the design of the dress perfectly! I will also say, as a previous bride who wore a veil on my head - I felt I had limited head movement and couldn't wait to take it off.
Have to say I find myself looking forward to your videos. Love your energy and insight about sewing. As I am about to start learning verrry soon!!! ✨✨✨🌼🌼🌼
Excited to follow your dream with you ❣️ I love the bodice veil look. You could have a shorter veil overlap it coming from the back of your head, clipped between your flowers.👰
I love the cape train idea 😍 if your worried about missing out on the head veil you could do that as well and have it end at your finger tips which would give it a layered extra touch. When you were drawing your dress I kept thinking of Ever After; your dress isn't anything like that lol but it gives me that vibe.
Its awesome that you're even considering getting some resources from opp shops! Even cutting up existing wedding dresses would be a great use of resources. Love your design as well.
Getting started is always the hardest part and you did it! I'm so excited to follow along~ I started seriously sewing when i saw your video "Stop brainrot start sewing" and you changed my life with it for real. I finished the Audrey hood from Merchant & Mills and got so many compliments on it :) I'm onto my next project which is making some denim jeans! Super scary but exciting. Can't wait for the next video
Update on my WD progress, I won in auction very lovely 50s wedding fascinator/hat, and I am determined to set my dress style around it as I love it sooo much. Will be trying some original 40s and 30s pattern to see what I am into the most. Love all the "calm down" advise against perfectionism
you're just such a cutie!!! sending you lots of love and light. the dress WILL be magical and special no matter how it turns out because YOU will be the one wearing it! enjoy the process, enjoy every step of the journey!
This is such a pretty design! Feels very reminiscent of the structure of some Paolo Sebastian dresses ❤️ can't wait to see your videos of the making process
@@fromcarlyb Ok, first of all I think you should do both the veil and the cape. And secondly, when I first saw your drawing of the cape (~13:38) for a moment it seemed like it could be the front of the dress, and thought, "Oh wow, that is SO Carly!" I know it is not what you settled on, but the juxtaposition of a very fitted corselet visible through your signature billowy, airy silhouette is just dreamy. You've got this!!
Carly, I have no doubt that you will make your dress beautiful! It has been such a joy watching you grow your sewing skills. You have come so far and accomplished so much! I know this task feels a bit overwhelming but try to enjoy the process! You got this!
Your idea for your wedding dress is beautiful, and feels "very you". I love the idea of the the train attaching to the back of your dress. Most freedom to move, I think attached to the hair seems like it would be restricting. Can't wait to watch the progress ❤️
I think that, to attach the cape to the back of the dress, large snaps would hold the cape more securely to the inside of the corset than hooks and eyes.
lol . . . Of course it was interesting! 🤣. Wonderful advice to keep the mindset “it’s just another dress” and know your comfort level with the fabrics. Thrifting for the bodice is a great idea. And the sketches are beautiful, very you. The leaves, floral, etc around the shoulders make perfect sense and seem a natural progression of the patchwork you’ve done before - you’re going 3D 😋!! One recommendation, veils get heavier than people think. Perhaps go with the train/veil attached to the back of the dress but keep a shorter layer on top that’s long enough to “cape” over your head (could be lightly pinned with combs or headpiece) for the ceremony and easily detach for the party. It could stay at the crown of your head or drop over your face if you want an unveiling moment during the ceremony. Totally Audrey Hepburn in the wedding photo shoot from FF! Best wishes! Cheering you on from Texas!
So excited we get to go on this journey with you! I'm also a sewist named Carly from Aus and it's my dream to make my wedding dress too 😆 Living vicariously through you and this project! Can't wait to watch it come to life
I'm also making my wedding dress. Wedding is summer solstice next year. Mom talked me into getting a base with a corset already made and build off that whichi thought was a great idea. Purchased the base, collected ideas, now I just need to buy the fabric! So excited to see your journey
I love this so much! I just started watching you right before you got engaged (or announced it). I haven't started sewing but I would love to and you are definitely giving great inspiration. I love both veil options so just a reminder that since there is no right option that means that there is no wrong one either. Praying that this is a lovely bridal season for you. P.s. I got married in March so this is bringing back those lovely bridal feelings!
This is a lot of fun. I think I only started following your channel a year ago. I was hoping to learn from you. I have done exactly zero projects in that time. So I can't offer any advice but I'm enjoying this.
Hey Carly, it's gonna be faaabb!!❤❤❤😍 can't wait to see the process unfold! For the veil, personally I'd go for the cape attached to the dress, it's so much more unique and it gives you more hairstyle options in case your feeling something different last minute😊❤
just wanted to say that Ash Bentley - one of the other youtubers I watch made their own wedding dress as well and they bought fabric, lace and appliques from Silk and Stitch which is an Australian company that gets deadstock fabrics and stuff so it is like nicer material but not as expensive!
Your design concept is beautiful! I cannot wait to see it come to life. I personally like the cape being attached to the back of the dress. I feel like that is very Audrey.
I think the first veil idea is lovely, it gives a really beautiful late 1910s-1920s look. The idea kind of reminds me of Annies veil in Mocking Jay part2. Im really excited for this project, your enthusiasm is so infectious 😊😍
Ahh these designs are so beautiful and special! I love hearing all your ideas, and seeing some of them getting down on paper. I agree with your mum - sometimes you just gotta get started (and that's the scariest part). Keep all of these design images! 1. because they're gorgeous and you're an artist, and 2. because imagine how special it would be to put them into a frame after the wedding to remember what this process was like??
1. Resources: it's in a state of flux rn but archiveorg/open library are excellent for reading books/magazines (and i can point you towards more alt ways of resources as well, if you like) 💗 2. Veil: You might like the Juliet Cap Veil from the 50s-80s 💕 3. Forest-y Dress: A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999) has that feeling, especially Titania's dress, it might not be directly applicable but she feels to have been through the forest in a dream 💕 4. Shoes: You haven't mentioned it yet, but would you want to get matching ballet pointe shoes for the dancey bits after the formal part if you're going the ballerina-tulle route? That way you'll have time to break them in and they'll look ethereal 🩰 5. Ariana Grande: I think it's cool you mentioned Ari, you kinda resemble her, so what suits her might suit you 💕 6. PDF: thank you so much for compiling the PDF 💕 for the future, you could consider making a downloadable, read only (for the viewers) Google sheet, that way you can keep adding to it if you need/like 💕 I'm so happy and excited for you 💕💕💕
If you haven’t already, you should watch Bella Mae’s videos on recreating Cinderella’s blue gown from the movie. She goes into lots of details about how she made the structural elements and (the truly amazing) puffy tulle skirt PS I like the veil/cape situation best
For material: check if you have some family that still has their wedding dress and ask if you can use the fabric. My mum had beautiful wild silk, that has this wild look and since she was divorced she was totally ok to cut it up
I found this super interesting!! I'm loving watching the process. I don't plan on making my own dress but I will need to look for a wedding dress soon and love learning about sewing content, so please keep going!
it would be cool if you did a floral clip veil that could detach and then be put onto ur dress as a cape later! This video was so nice! I'm in loooove with your vision!! also you said "i dont wanna look dirty" but in my head i saw it more as like. ethereal and fairytale !! it's gonna turn out wonderful I cant wait to see what you do!! i'm cheering you on!!
Next video is gonna be all about the corset! I can't wait - seriously!!! Thank you so much for all your insight & please let me know what you think of the cape/veil situation!!
I actually feel like the veil should begin at the top of the bodice because it feels kind of like wings, though both options look stunning!!❤

I love the idea for the veil attaching to the bodice, it sound so dreamy and couture
The bodice veil is jaw dropping! Can’t wait to see what you create!
I love the idea of the hair clip veil! The flower clips are so 'you' so it would be lovely for the veil to be attached to them! I love audrey hepburn films, especially her outfits in Sabrina x

i really think you have a beautiful vision for this dress!! the part where you told the story of you walking through the forest felt so genuine and magical and lovely and i can't wait to see your vision come to life
I love the visual break the cape veil gives, so I'd say team cape veil. I also just wanted to say I love the detail of this video, as an amateur sewist and knitter I find it fascinating and inspiring to watch the process.
Not boring at all! I love the amount of joy and emotion you bring and I'm so excited to get to see you embark on this journey!
Funny Face is one of my all time favourite movies! 🥰
Love the idea of the forest creates your dress, beauty in decay.🕊
I feel like you would love 1920s bridal veil styling. Like the way they used Juliet caps and beading a hair accessories back then🧚
Team veil cape!!! I think it's so dreamlike and more like you
both options with the veil are beautiful!
😸 Katt x
Head was completely tilted! Haha. Loved watching you unleash your creativity!

I LOVE your design! I can absoloutly see the flowerfairy feeling you described in your announcement video without beeing a costumy thing.
And I like the bodice veil option.
Cape style veil is my favorite. Such an exciting journey to watch as you create your dream!
Team cape, all the way! I love that!
This is so exciting! I’m so thrilled that you’re taking us on this journey with you. I really love the shoulder cape because it flows so well with the dress concept and doesn’t cover your dress! Can’t wait to see morel
Love the cape idea! I’ve always been obsessed with Anastasia’s navy dress and I love the cape on that !

Really enjoyed seeing the design process and love the idea of capturing what you adore so much about the garments in museums. The story you have in your mind about how the dress gets this way is such a lovely one. Congrats and excited to see it all come together!
i love the idea of the veil attaching to the bodice!
I was sooooo excited to see the next installment of the wedding dress extravaganza! My niece has asked me to make her wedding dress so this is really helpful. Its an absolute delight to see you so excited and thrilled to be dreaming about your dress.
When it comes to the veil, the placement will depend on what you want it to accomplish for you and the overall look.
i love the temporary veil at the end and it frames your face so beautifully. i got a similar one off of etsy recently which was a 50's replica. i am loving this series cos i too am designing my wedding dress and going to be making my own using my mothers dress from the 80's. picture all the lace and skirt volume from the 80;s and beaded puff sleeves. over the next year after i graduate i will be starting to make it my own which im so excited about and have a plan in my head, and luckily i study fashion design at uni so i have a good amount of knowledge of deconstruction and corseting. love you and your videos xxx

i'm on bodice veil team! the dress and story you came up with for her backstory was so gorgeous and i'm so excited to see it come to life!
I am team bodice veil! I think it would fit your personality and the design of the dress perfectly! I will also say, as a previous bride who wore a veil on my head - I felt I had limited head movement and couldn't wait to take it off.
I vote for the cape veil! Either way, this design is beautiful. I'm looking forward to watching your process.
Have to say I find myself looking forward to your videos. Love your energy and insight about sewing. As I am about to start learning verrry soon!!! ✨✨✨🌼🌼🌼
OHHHhhh that is the nicest !!!!!!! Thanks for being here!!!
It's so cute how your face just keeps lighting up all the time ❤
For the top look out for vintage tablecloths with lace and/ or rmbroidery
Love it !! Your vision is beautiful and I think I prefer the cape version of the veil it will make the garment very interesting
Excited to follow your dream with you ❣️ I love the bodice veil look. You could have a shorter veil overlap it coming from the back of your head, clipped between your flowers.👰

The pattern scout also always uses the word 'situation' .... I'm enjoying your videos 🎉
thank you so much for letting us come on this journey with you... i cant wait to see the rest!!! :D
This is such a cute design, definitely gives me ethereal forest fairy vibes ❤ cant wait to see how it goes

Love the design!!!! I think either veil is lovely but for some reason I'm drawn to the Cape

I love Audrey Hepburn SO much and I can absolutely see that gorgeous style on you 😍 Your dress is going to be amazing!

lol . .

Great sketch! So brave to put it out there into the world. I cannot wait to see it.
it'll be an amazing dress! love the design and how excited you are about it! also i would do the cape-style veil - it's so cool!
So excited we get to go on this journey with you! I'm also a sewist named Carly from Aus and it's my dream to make my wedding dress too 😆 Living vicariously through you and this project! Can't wait to watch it come to life
Interlining with bones and interfacing is also a great way to have structure on the inside without seeing boning channels but still having a zipper.
P.s. I got married in March so this is bringing back those lovely bridal feelings!
how exciting!!! can't wait to see what you make!!
The drawings look magical!! Love it! ✨
Congratulations and have fun! It brought back sweet memories of my 1976 wedding and my $29. Dress.
So enjoying your designing of your wedding gown…you are so very talented
This is a lot of fun. I think I only started following your channel a year ago. I was hoping to learn from you. I have done exactly zero projects in that time. So I can't offer any advice but I'm enjoying this.
I loved your video. The wedding dress looks amazing.
Guys I love her so much ❤ ❤❤❤
Hey Carly, it's gonna be faaabb!!❤❤❤😍 can't wait to see the process unfold!
I love love love your content!! Watching you draw is magical. I was enthralled. PS the long braids are channeling your inner Anne Shirley ;)
If you haven’t watched the documentary Dior and I you absolutely need to! The craftsmanship of their couture masters is incredible to watch!
I AM SEATED AT THE ROUND TABLE I AM READY TO LISTEN
I FEEL SO HONOURED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1. Resources: it's in a state of flux rn but archiveorg/open library are excellent for reading books/magazines (and i can point you towards more alt ways of resources as well, if you like) 💗
2. Veil: You might like the Juliet Cap Veil from the 50s-80s 💕
3. Forest-y Dress: A Midsummer Night's Dream (1999) has that feeling, especially Titania's dress, it might not be directly applicable but she feels to have been through the forest in a dream 💕
4. Shoes: You haven't mentioned it yet, but would you want to get matching ballet pointe shoes for the dancey bits after the formal part if you're going the ballerina-tulle route? That way you'll have time to break them in and they'll look ethereal 🩰
5. Ariana Grande: I think it's cool you mentioned Ari, you kinda resemble her, so what suits her might suit you 💕
6. PDF: thank you so much for compiling the PDF 💕 for the future, you could consider making a downloadable, read only (for the viewers) Google sheet, that way you can keep adding to it if you need/like 💕
I'm so happy and excited for you 💕💕💕
If you haven’t already, you should watch Bella Mae’s videos on recreating Cinderella’s blue gown from the movie. She goes into lots of details about how she made the structural elements and (the truly amazing) puffy tulle skirt
PS I like the veil/cape situation best
For material: check if you have some family that still has their wedding dress and ask if you can use the fabric. My mum had beautiful wild silk, that has this wild look and since she was divorced she was totally ok to cut it up
This is going to be such a beautiful dress. I also love the low key grannies serve 😂
I love the cape veil idea!
I found this super interesting!! I'm loving watching the process. I don't plan on making my own dress but I will need to look for a wedding dress soon and love learning about sewing content, so please keep going!
I am so excited to see the final results heheh
me too hahahahhaha
it would be cool if you did a floral clip veil that could detach and then be put onto ur dress as a cape later! This video was so nice! I'm in loooove with your vision!! also you said "i dont wanna look dirty" but in my head i saw it more as like. ethereal and fairytale !! it's gonna turn out wonderful I cant wait to see what you do!! i'm cheering you on!!
Ah, love your ideas so far! Can’t wait to follow along❤😊
