My mum died when I was 10. My dad is so protective of her wedding dress (understandbly) he has offered it to us to use for occasions (neither I or my sister have as its too important to us as well) but never to take apart. If we ever destroyed her dress like this I genuinely think he would disown us. So I can't imagine ruining your LIVING MOTHERS wedding dress.
This reminds me of that movie 27 Dresses. I'm glad your family values your mother's dress. My dad passed away when I was 7, so I can't imagine trashing or cutting up any of his things either.
If someone took the time and effort to store their dress in an archive box for thirty years, they more than likely didn’t want to see it get trashed. There are plenty of 80s wedding dresses at the vintage stores without the sentimental value attached to them… this just strikes me as cruel.
2:42 I GASPED IN HORROR SO LOUDLY OH MY GOD, the dress was so dreamy and gorgeous, it honestly felt like a royal dress with all those beads and embroidered details in the corset, and for what??? A simple basic white dress with some beads at the back?? Just recreat that detail, don't ruin one of the most beautiful dresses everyone has ever seen 😭
I’m honestly convinced that that one only took the beads in the back from the original dress and the rest of the dress was probably untouched/unused. It really doesn’t bear any resemblance except for the back beads
As a fashion designer myself, this is so heartbreaking to see people do these things to basically a piece of historical fashion. Part of me understands wanting to alter a tiny bit of the style to better fit someone's aesthetic- like I'm not one for puffy sleeves or drop waists, but I would still preserve the rest of the dress as much as I can (or like the first example, except like you said, keeping the skirt as it is with the updated top). But turning a dramatic embroidered gown into a mini dress that looked like it was pulled off an old life-size Barbie doll?? That just hurts.
Like the 2nd and 3rd videos hurt the most. SO much character and whimsy that someone put so much time and love into... just taken away by a basic b*tch with just diy-level sewing skills.
I don’t like when people ruin vintage wedding dresses just to make them look completely modern. It destroys the value of it, and if you want a modern dress, just buy one.
Exactly! I hate that some of these people will destroy an absolutely gorgeous and hard to find vintage dress that you’ll probably never see anywhere else! If they want something “in-trend” and modern, they can just buy a more modern dress. Completely agree with you! 🙏
Every time I stumble across a video of a girl showing a wedding dress, I am HOPING they don’t cut it up... these videos traumatized me. And now, I have anxiety watching a video with a wedding dress in it.
“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” - Thomas Bertram Lance It pains me that they’re doing this with WEDDING DRESSES! These dresses are NOT cheap. But you know what is cheap? The outcome of the dress. IT LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE SOMETHING YOU COULD BUY ON AMAZON! Whoever’s cutting their mothers wedding dress, please stop messing with these dresses...
@ville__not to be rude or anything, but u have 3 videos and over 2,000 subs. You comment on a bunch of her vids saying this and it’s not true. Please stop doing this😅
The amount of rage in her voice is ✨delicious✨ female rage is truly unmatched! I'm deadass sat on the edge of my bed with each word, that's how much passion I feel in her voice fr
I'm not even joking.. this part (3:11) fucking killed me i shed actual tears... it looks like it spent weeks, sleepless months and so much effort to create such a beautiful dress I'm, I'M NOT EVEN A DESIGNER BUT AS AN ARTIST THIS KILLS ME.
As a seamstress, this video broke me. Like, seeing them turn those beautiful and (most likely) HAND BEADED dresses 'Temu chic' is heart breaking. If you hate your mom's dress but want to use it, there are plenty of ways to do it, take a discrete piece of fabric and incorporate it into your bouquet. Use the veil , or have the person you paid to kill it just recreate a bit of it and use it as a belt.
Most of them weren't even fitted properly. They didn't seem to take into account how the specific fabric stretches and moves. That one with the transparent veil sleeves is embarrassing. It looks like she bought it straight off the rack in the wrong size.
I wish I could of worn my mom’s and my Grandmother’s dress (same dress) and I had permission to remove the sheer (no lace or beading) sheer cover for the neck line and sleeves to open up the arm holes but also make it a bit more modern while keeping the same look. I could not do it. I was too big for the dress so it would of have to be hemmed to tea length (hem was already an inch or two above the ground without shoes) and then a corset back would have to be done. Instead, we took the extra that was removed during my mom’s fitting from the 80s to do in a ring pillow.
@christophg.6339 Yes. The job is to meet the clients' wants, but these dresses are NOT something to be proud of from a business standpoint. They're all ill-fitting and genuinely LOOK like D.I.Y projects. I'd give them a discount JUST so they wouldn't tell anyone I made. It's why I love recommending other options like accessories, especially if you're going to change the dress to the point where it no longer looks like the orinpginal. If the only purpose of using it is "free fabric." I recommend just going for a custom dress. That way, you get exactly what they want, and elements can be replicated or incorporated without ruining a gorgeous dress and relegating 70% of this sentimental item to the trash
I can understand some of them wanting to take off/change the sleeves, and I could even understand them making the dress less poofy, but chopping it off to be so short is horrendous!
That what I was hoping for the one with the pearls hanging in the back; that they'd just remove the sleeves and adjust the skirt but no they destroyed it
@@melodyandbryanphillips8304 yeah and the hideous mistake that they made out of that beautiful dress is gonna be something they regret making in a few years time
Honestly I would have removed the sleeves and wore the rest as it is (keeping the sleeves in case someone wants them put back). I don't understand why you'd completely destroy it if all you wanted were the pearls in the back! Just take a normal backless dress and put pearls in it! 😭
Is that even a wedding dress anymore if it’s that short. Also every “recreated” wedding dress not only look like it’s something a girl would wear to a normal party, it’s also doesn’t look anything like the old wedding dress is still there. I mean, at that point might as well custom order a brand new wedding “dress”.
It would literally save you money, too. What's even the point, is there some kind of medal or praise that comes with destroying beautiful, sometimes one of a kind, dresses??? Surely these ladies and their tailors don't think their dresses are better. More to their tastes, sure, but better? Not by a long shot.
I wore my mother’s 80s wedding dress for my own wedding. It has beautiful sequin designs and fake pearl beads from neckline to train trim. Gorgeous silk and lace as well. The only alterations done were minor, as the long sleeves were too big for my arms. I couldn’t imagine cutting anything off! It makes me nauseous to see these wonderful dresses get reduced to party city angel costumes.
I would have loved to have a vintage table like that. If only I had the space. Kills me that people are destroying them. When they could just buy the table they wanted from amazon or IKEA.
3:27 "Look how beautiful my mom is in her dress! Let's ruin it." I'm a 23 year old guy, don't have kids and I'm not married. But if MY daughter did this to my wife's wedding dress, I'd be so pissed. That's SO wrong.
Yeah, I think it's better to just buy a new one. Esp when your mother prob had to fight with extended family's opinions so she could keep that dress :/ That dress has history
Honestly, it's not a big deal .if it was grandmas dress then yes. once you give something away it's not yours anymore. As a mother, we know our children might have different tastes & 70s& 80s were tacky so most mothers wouldn't care. It saves families thousands & their daughters still get their perfect dress that also has sentimental value. If they didn't repurpose it'd just sit in a closet.
@@AlysiaPetak-dh4yo women keep on buying dresses, expensive purses for parties , but they cant buy a dress for one of the highlights of their life ? now they wanna be financially smart? a lot of women are buying 1k , 2k 10k purses every damn year but buying a 2k wedding dress for once in life is wastage of money ? now they all are too broke to buy a decent 2k wedding dress , their makeup cost a lot more than 2k in a year . tearing a full blown gown into a high school prom party frock is not being financially intelligent , its just cruel to destroy something sentimental like their mother's wedding dress . they could have just saved money from unnecessary purchases for years and get a prettier dress
Agree my mother rent her wedding clothes when she got wed with my father but if she have one i would never do things like this. I have her dress when she's younger and i dont change anything at all i proudly wear it without change anything. She's quite fashionista and i like her style when she's in my age
This was a plot line in the movie “27 Dresses”. The sister getting married ruined the mom’s dress which made the other sister (not getting married) completely lose it.
Yes that tremd of ruin dresses reminded me of 27 dressess and what it was funny is that the sister Who ruined the dress couldnt marry because of a lot of photos and videos showing her being trashy
i remember seeing a tiktok years ago about future mothers won’t pass down vintage wedding dresses (or dresses) to their daughters because of fast fashion (shein) has taken over. i remember reading comments saying “they’ll be getting shein dresses” and i highly 100% agree
Okay, so what happens when Mom dies? The kids are going to get the dress, and they're either going to make it into something else, or give it to Goodwill, or pitch it in the trash. Better to make something usable with it now!
the beaded back detailing is so gorgeous and i hate how in the updated version the dangle down awkwardly, it doesnt look right, the original dress the beading was more taunt and fit the frame of the open back,
6:03 why does it look like she went to her friend and was like “okay cut up this gorgeous dress and make it look like i’m the groom’s mistress instead of his bride”
5:30 physically pained me. like that is basically my dream dress, SO beautiful. i cant believe she RUINED it, after being blessed to even have it?! GOD these women piss me off, they made it look so cheap, when they could've looked gorgeous and timeless.
I cannot imagine ruining a family members LITERAL WEDDING DRESS for myself. my sister used my moms dress and she just… used the dress 🤷♂️ she got extra fabric for anything she wanted added but didn’t sew it on do it wouldn’t be ruined. like a normal respectful person. 😐
One of my sister's friend wore her mom's wedding dress for prom (it's perfectly normal where I live, the difference between a prom dress and a wedding dress is just the price tag). It was a bit too long, so I helped to sew it up a bit, THEN LET IT BACK DOWN after the prom! If you don't want to wear an "outdated" wedding dress, then don't wear and antique wedding dress.
This entirely depends on the mom, my mom gave my sister her dress knowing full well we wouldn't like the style. She encouraged my sister to alter it to fit what she wanted (I did the alterations) so no not disrespectful as long as the original owner is okay with it.
Some people really clueless about what they have. Vintage things or things that have historical value should be preserved. Not every country, society or people have that option to preserve it due to various complicated reasons. If you wanna save money, just buy a cheap one and "renovate" that.
But then, how many wedding dresses do you want to preserve? Most people want a new dress. Here in Germany, it is quite impossible to sell your used wedding dress; my sister got her 2000 € silk dress for 100 € - no typo! - and it sat months in the digital shelf before she bought it. If my sister hadn't bought it, probably no one would have, not even for that price. Millions of people get married every year, that means millions of dresses. If all of them keep their dress, what should we do with all of those dresses in the future? We can't preserve _everything_ forever. I'm very happy that my mother sold her dress right after the wedding.
@ then buy a cheaper dress 😭🙏 it won’t make a difference. Why do you need to destroy a perfectly good (much better) one and take away all its personality? Literally just go to goodwill and find something. You’ll have the same outcome.
6:45 this destruction hurt me the most. The original wedding dress was absolutely stunning and looked like an ice queen dress. And now it’s forever destroyed for nothing.
This one was the worst for me as well! It's so damn hideous after! It looks like one of those Halloween costumes that come in S/M or L/XL and it doesn't really fit you properly but you just wear it anyway lol
That vintage wedding dress at 3:00 is my DREAM dress. I want an autumn wedding and that is my ideal design. That handmade and hand-beaded lace....destroyed.
Same! How did she get her hands on such a gorgeous dress! It must have been a relative's as I'm sure someone would not just donate such a beautifully intricate dress as it looks like it would have cost an absolute fortune!
I certainly agree! This dress made me stop the video to fume about how gorgeos it was!!! 😱 But maybe she only took inspiration from the wedding dress and put the back pearls and the waist into her newly sewn dress, because the fabric looks weirdly fresh on the short dress, as if it's polyester. I really hope she wasn't foolish enough to resew the old dress!!! 🙏
My cousins told me this stoy about this one *special* delusional cousin. She discusses with the grandmother if she can CHANGE her wedding dress that was PASS DOWN from generations, but lucky the grandmother didn't after she ask her how and what changes the dress into and this girl show her what she changed "few" things on the wedding dress. So this women went and ask her mother for her dress, but she didn't tell her what's going to happen the wedding dress. And they show me the before and AFTER dress and it look so DIFFERENT! She just destroyed the beautiful wedding dress into modern dress that looks like for went to clubs type of dress.
My great aunt gifted me with her wedding dress, and I’m changing absolutely NOTHING!!! I LOVE old dresses and find so much beauty in their histories. If I’m blessed with a gorgeous piece of history, I’m treasuring it!!!!!
I wore my grandmother's wedding dress for my wedding and it was beautiful, I didn't want anything altered and lost 20lbs to be able to wear it with no alterations, I hate seeing people ruin such beautiful dresses
I plan on doing the same! I’m nowhere near interested in dating at this point on my life, I’ve never even had a crush before. It would just be a waste of my time right now. I don’t have a wedding planned out at all because of that. However, one thing I do know I’ll do is wear my grandma’s dress. She’s gone, she won’t get to be there for my wedding someday. And I love her dress! It’s simple, it’s elegant, but unfortunately it’s in terrible shape. I have to modify it. It’s super yellowed, so it’ll have to be dyed, and the faux fur on it is both cheap looking and ragged. She looked gorgeous in it almost 50 years ago, but it’ll need pretty extensive changes to it in order to make it look wearable in the future. However, I am _not_ cutting it apart. What is the point of wearing your loved one’s dress if you’re just going to butcher it beyond recognition? It doesn’t honor her, it just destroys the physical remnants of that beautiful memory.
Why do people have to destroy beautiful, vintage things whether its a dress that your mom had or some furniture that grandma owned and turn it into basic, modern furniture or ruin something and make it look bad. Besides what if it has sentimental value?
Millenials are so bland and seem to enjoy destroying everything to make it grey and bland . I literally think being heavily medicated, on SSRIS has something to do with it lol.
@@alicegaiba Right?? T-T Add that to the fact that the pants seemed ill-fitting, it had a horrible "design" altogether, it made her proportions look weird AND the terrible wrinking made it look like it was just dragged out from a heap of laundry. Just why?????
she could’ve bought bridal satin or dupioni silk from the fabric store and used an old sewing pattern to make something unique and different instead of ruining a perfectly good dress and a family heirloom this hurts to watch as a self taught tailor and furrier/leatherworker by hobby and a historical textile reconstruction and reenactment enthusiast
I got married in April, and I found my dress at a thrift store. It looks a lot like these dresses- it had gorgeous long lace sleeves, a high neck with a lace collar, beautiful beaded bodice, a basque waist and a full skirt. I cut some ruffles off of the shoulders and that was it. I felt like royalty.
The antics and the old dress from their mother's wedding were beautiful and gives back nostalgia and rare site to see Why ruined the wedding gowns from their mother of their happiest days of their life to a shephora dress, those dresses are so cherish and full of good memories. I can't- omg..
I just wore my mum's veil when I got married, rather than trying to make her wedding outfit work for me when it just was not my style. She was happy that I was wearing her veil and I was happy to have something of hers I could wear
That’s what I plan to do if I ever get married, because her wedding dress is just not something I’d want to wear. It’s very pretty, and I’ll preserve it, but it’s sleeveless which is not what I’d want for my wedding dress.
@@Sarah_BraggYou could also wear a matching bolero, depending on the style of the dress and if it's otherwise something you'd like to wear. But I was about to comment about using the veil when I saw this thread. Some of those dresses look like they only used the lining it's so bad.
@@lilith75 mine kept hers, I think she was hoping I might wear it. sadly, an 80s two-piece power suit was never something I had in mind, so she let the dress go but kept the accessories
2:37 OKAY SO I THOUGHT YOU WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BEFORE DRESS AND I WAS LIKE "OMG THATS SO CUTE THOUGH?? I LOVE IT!" BUT THE AFTER RESULTS. THE AFTER RESULTS LOOK SO BAD I WANTED TO CRY.. JUST KEEP IT HOW IT WAS!! 😭
what's worse is that most of (if not all of them, honestly) used their mothers' wedding dresses to repurpose them because they know how EXPENSIVE they are. Like, if I was a woman borrowing any of these wedding dresses, I wouldn't even dare think about accidentally ripping them on my wedding day cuz I just know the repairs would be costly.
As a young woman who plans to repurpose my grandmothers wedding dress…I’m baffled. I can’t understand butchering beautiful, immaculate pieces of your own family’s history just to look more sl-tty on your wedding day. If you wanna look like that but don’t want to spend money on a high end wedding dress, buy from shein. I kid you not, it’s full of those exact styles. My grandmother’s dress is little more than a robe, she bought it because they couldn’t afford both a fancy wedding and a house, so they chose the house. It has all the faux fur trappings one might expect on a nearly 50 year old wedding dress. The fur is ragged and worn, the white is yellowed beyond repair. In order to use it and look nice I’ll _have_ to drastically modify it. But by doing so I’ll be honoring her memory, involving her in my own wedding someday because she can’t be there herself. Her dress is in poor shape, yet I’m still not going to be cutting it up into something unrecognizable 😭 the _hubris_ on these women has me floored
the most annoying part of these is that they could easily find dresses with the “repurposed” designs for like $15-$20 online. like there was NO need to ruin these dresses at all
And the worst part is that most of the dresses didn't even look dated, as they were timeless pieces that would fit into any decade, like I love the first princess dress that was destroyed. Also, what's with the trend of wedding dresses being above the knee, cause it's honestly giving costume.
FRR it looks like those mini dresses that girls wear to go shopping or go to a birthday party JUST BUY ONE THAT LOOKS LIKE WHAT YOU WANTTT DONT RUIN THE BEAUTIFUL LONG WEDDING DRESS
As a lover of beautiful and rare vintage clothing, this was extremely painful to watch. I literally felt a part of me dying inside! There's a simple solution these girls just don't seem to understand: 1) If you want a vintage-inspired look so badly, just make one, or hire somebody to make a modern dress that replicates the unique characteristics of your mom or your grandma's dress. It can be done one way or another. 2) Don't think you're doing the world or the environment a service by repurposing these absolutely gorgeous vintage dresses by butchering them up, simply give it to someone who actually appreciates and dreams of having a real vintage dress for their wedding because buying one of these beauties costs an arm and a leg (unless you're lucky to find one at the thrift store for a more affordable price). Besides, these dresses are extremely rare and hard to find and modern remakes aren't as detailed or uniquely designed with such detailed craftmanship as the vintage dresses. Even the material is rare. 3) If you don't want to do any of the hard work, just buy a modern day dress to your specific tastes. Judging by the horrific end results of these dresses, it looks like Temu or Shein are your best bet. 4) Good luck (you're really going to need it).
Although the dress would have looked better as a skirt instead of pants, the client wanted pants so they turned the fabric into pants. They’re doing what they customer tells them to do for money 🤷♀️
2:38 calling this creature a demon is a disrespect against all the hellish community that resides in the underworld. I demand an apology with an ukelele
as a ukulele player, the comment about the apology song really hurts me, i don't like that my instrument i play is now linked to it (this is just satire)
i personally love historical goods. i love iron wrought, old architecture, old music boxes&clocks, old stuffed toys, old embroidery, lace and beading that people spent hundreds of hours on the craft for. and it looks magical when someone spends hours on something. seeing old clothes and stuffed animals is like watching an animated passionate project that took decades to create. seeing people destroy beautiful old things makes me want to scream. we should all remember our history and where we were before the modern era that's why historic districts are important and museums but having your hands on a piece of history and spitting on the craftsman that put painstaking effort into it might as well be the act of you unburying them from their grave and pissing on em.
Absolutely agreed!!!!! There's so much cheaply produced stuff that's easier to reproduce that doesn't have this kind of artistry put into it anymore, please respect the artisans who poured decades of practice, knowledge, and finely honed skill into these precious old things... ;_;
2:58 THIS HURT MY SOUL I WANNA CRY...THIS IS THE MOST GORGEOUS WEDDING DRESS I HAVE SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, I LOVE IT OH GOODNESS WHY'D YOU DO ITTTT TwT
Love the righteous indignation. I don’t like any of these project either, but I actually did the same thing. I cut up a 1995 wedding dress to make a 1950s-inspired wedding dress for my 2015 wedding. A friend of mine was going through a rough time in her marriage. Her husband told her to get rid of her wedding dress, so she gave it to me. It was tiny. So I detached the bodice and gave it away. I made a dress out of the silk dupioni fabric from the full skirt. I used the crinoline as a petticoat. No regrets! In 2015 all the wedding dresses I saw were polyester. I felt special in my silk dress.
It really was, what they did to it made me physically sick. I could see redesigning it by taking off the puff sleeve part and replacing the mesh/lace as sleeves, but they completely trashed it.
My mum actually wore a mini dress at her wedding back in 1994 & looked stunning. Still don't understand why they don't get for a new one, if they want to change that much about the look.
Are you sure it was THIS mini, though? These are higher than mid thigh!! With bare legs!I would bet your moms was just above the knee. And/or she wore colored hose. I'm probably about her age and we were wearing the stretchy mini skirts but something that is fluffed up, like these dresses, will flash everyone.
@@drivethrupoet Yes I am. The skirt was like the dress at 4:05 but mid thigh I'd say :) also pretty unusual at the time but lovely. Also hat a big bow on the chest around the shoulders.
@@Kristina-xo5nx ah yes I remember that look, good times. Well, out of all in this vid, I think that particular dress was still looking like a wedding dress.
2:55 seeing the “transformation” of this dress made my heart break bro why would you try to fix something that isn’t even broken?! 😭 edit: uhh I think that’s a dif dress so nvm…
5:30 that dress was SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL. the one thing I would personally take off is the sleeves. poofy sleeves have never been for me. but that is IT. the dress is so beautiful & to completely ‘transform’ it’s from a wedding dress to a fancy tea party dress is terrible.
2:15 Oh my I relate to the rage so much. Just donate vintage dresses and buy new ones. The alterations are so expensive anyway (if their were done by professionals)
The only thing that made me happy about that one is that seeing it made me realize what style of dress I want for my wedding... whenever I find someone to get married to that is. 😅 I love vintage dresses and I really want something similar to it.
I remember there used to be a show on TLC (or is it FOX? IDK), where the mother's wedding dress was remade into the daughters new wedding dress. Those designs were a lot cuter and wedding-ish than the designs that are circulating now. The repurposed dresses actually look like something that can be worn by the grandchildren and other future generations.
There are so many tasteful ways to repurpose a wedding dress. My mother in law returned to a very old tradition and recently had her (almost 50 year old) wedding dress turned into a baptism gown, which my youngest son (18 months) wore yesterday. It's absolutely beautiful and will be cherished. The most important part about that change is that it was HER decision to do it.
8:36 I literally gasped at seeing this gorgeous dress. I seriously can’t understand how you think of turning such a beautiful and stunning wedding dress into the atrocity of dress. Also the idea of marrying in such short skirts, is just bizarre to me.
Fr, It's weird, I may not wear dresses (I'm not gay) but I like longer dresses, it gives a more formal and beautiful look to a girl. Skirts should be saved for more causal and semi casual events, and this is coming from a guy who's never dated before
Ong these vintage dresses are absolutely stunning! You’re so right. They could have done a minimal alteration to keep it up to date, just a tiny bit while maintaining the elegance. I would have been so upset as their mother for the lack of design and taste sensibilities. Should consult your mother first before ruining her prized possession.
I'm of two minds. It's nice that the dress is being reworn in some fashion. This has been done a lot throughout history. In fact, it was the norm. However (and this is the more important part), too many take off the beautiful elements or the handworked elements, the things that made the OG beautiful, and turn it into something that no one will ever be able to "redesign" again. Who knows where the pieces that were removed are? Were then incorporated into a different garment? Thrown away? Gifted to someone who will appreciate them and use them? And why do they make the reworked dresses look so cheap? I've seen photos of historic dresses reworked and they didn't look cheap. Look, I've done enough sewing that I have a hard time watching them just go in and start cutting. The carpentry adage of "measure twice, cut once" absolutely applies to sewing. Also, I would go in with a sew ripper and properly take the dress apart. You get more useable fabric that way. My mom made her wedding dress (because it was cheaper than buying one, she also made the bridesmaid dresses). *If* I were to get married and wanted to reuse it somehow, I would work with her on it.
Fun fashion history: short wedding dresses were actually fairly popular in the 1960s! My grandma wore a gorgeous one to her wedding in 1962. This trend had a very distinct look though, much different than the style of these DIY dress revamps. I'm a fan of the 60s style dress because I will probably elope or have a small backyard ceremony. But I'm certainly not about to slice the huge skirt and train off of my mother's wedding dress to turn it into that! I will go get my own 😭
My aunt, too. She looked stunning in it. It was such a cute yet sophisticated dress. Unfortunately, neither my aunt's (early 1960ies) nor my mum's (late 1970ies) dress were still around when I got married 16 years ago, but it would've been extremely hard to decide between the two of them, they were both stunning and quite timeless dresses. My gran's dress was also lovely, but marrying post-war, she had borrowed it...
1:05 My mother got married in a yellow summer dress in a garden. It wasn’t a real wedding dress. Would I still decide to cut it up and turn it into a different dress? No. Absolutely not. It’s beautiful and we treasure it. These women are crazy.
I was blessed to wear the veil my mom wore for her wedding. I even customized it to match my dress (which I got off Amazon). By using cheap little sticky rhinestones on the crown part that wouldn't cause any damage whatsoever so that I can keep my mother's veil intact as it was. Heck, the dang things were popping off during the reception, lol!
Some people like a modern aesthetic. Nothing wrong with that. My home is very tastefully modern with exceptional craftsmanship. Vintage doesn't mean good quality
@TKCMF then they should buy homes that are already modern. Old homes with original features are not in unlimited supply, eventually they will all be gone. No matter what someone's personal taste is, that would be a shame. Just buy the modern homes and leave the pretty old ones to people who will maintain them.
@TKCMF I've seen the materials used to build modern homes. Not just cheap ones either, some of them over a million dollars. So many of them are just built up carelessly with cheap materials and then they slap a high pricetag on them because they're spacious and have features like big tubs and walk in showers and closets. Even the builders themselves would say that the materials used were garbage even though the homes were pretty.
I'M SO GLAD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE HEATED ABOUT THIS! My dreeeaaam is to get married in a vintage wedding dress... but here's the thing: I'm just going to make my own inspired by vintage wedding dresses instead of taking apart a vintage dress so I can get exactly what I want in my dress. LEAVE PRICELESS ITEMS ALONE!
a wedding dress shall not be harmed bcz it all has their unique style, history, and the very significant event's memory. it's not 'redesigning' no. it's ruining and not valuing the dress and what it means by
I think turning old unused clothing (even wedding dresses if the owner no longer wants them) is great and even if some people prefer the old style I think it’s okay but there is a line If you turn a gorgeous dress with a lot of fabric and delicate details where clearly a lot of work went in into a plain white dress you should just buy a new wedding dress
You are so insightful! I agree 💯 I just had a convo about why all these movies need to be redone. As an older Millennial, it's boggling that so many newer humans need modernized versions of things to able to appreciate their awesomeness. Relating to old black & white movies, an 80's flick, or even an 00's blockbuster is supposed to part of character-building. I suspect these women have no personality. See the beauty in a vintage dress with minimal destructive edits...These revised dresses look kind of hootchie. Why not leave it in tact for their daughters or granddaughters to appreciate someday?
@TKCMF Are the examples in the video illustrating "evolved" style - per se? It's true that syles do change over time. Therefore, it seems to be more of an issue of taste than styles changing. The taste level shown by these particular upcyclers is questionable at best. Destroying a vintage sentimental dress (removing all character and artisan detail from it to make something akin to a Shein dress) smacks of a low level of taste rather than changing styles.
I completely agree 100% with all that you said You said you didn't understand the Denim jacket one. If they where having a country themed wedding I can see that. My husband and I got Married in historic Tombstone Arizona, and that would have been totally fitting. If they want a piece of moms dress but don't like the style they should just take the bottom layer and make a handkerchief or some accent piece that doesn't destroy moms dress.
do i like my mother's wedding dress? not really. would i change it drastically? absolutely not. that's apart of my family history now, and deserves respect like other heirlooms passed down to me.
My mom had a beautiful asymmetrical short wedding dress and she wore these CUTE custom Lacey booties. She slayed. I have that dress today and I could wear it without modification other than whitening
As someone who is trying really hard to find a beautiful modest dress for prom, because I really love the look and feel of dresses with high necklines and long sleeves... these videos pain me. 😭

Rest In Peace.
Your dad is a reasonable man
This reminds me of that movie 27 Dresses. I'm glad your family values your mother's dress. My dad passed away when I was 7, so I can't imagine trashing or cutting up any of his things either.
I agree with you, I can't even imagine destroying the things my parents own just for it to look 'nicer' to me.
If someone took the time and effort to store their dress in an archive box for thirty years, they more than likely didn’t want to see it get trashed. There are plenty of 80s wedding dresses at the vintage stores without the sentimental value attached to them… this just strikes me as cruel.
Exactly, like why not thrift a wedding dress and do one's "experiments" on it then? Why destroy a family heirloom like that???

2:42 I GASPED IN HORROR SO LOUDLY OH MY GOD, the dress was so dreamy and gorgeous, it honestly felt like a royal dress with all those beads and embroidered details in the corset, and for what??? A simple basic white dress with some beads at the back?? Just recreat that detail, don't ruin one of the most beautiful dresses everyone has ever seen 😭
Exactly!!!!
Seriously the dress looks like it came from shein
That 1 was the worst one it should actually be a federal crime
You could have bought that "redesigned" dress at Walmart

There are therapists available if you are that unhinged
As a seamstress, this video broke me. Like, seeing them turn those beautiful and (most likely) HAND BEADED dresses 'Temu chic' is heart breaking. If you hate your mom's dress but want to use it, there are plenty of ways to do it, take a discrete piece of fabric and incorporate it into your bouquet. Use the veil , or have the person you paid to kill it just recreate a bit of it and use it as a belt.
From a profesional point of view, is it normal that places follow those kind of requests?
Most of them weren't even fitted properly. They didn't seem to take into account how the specific fabric stretches and moves. That one with the transparent veil sleeves is embarrassing. It looks like she bought it straight off the rack in the wrong size.
I don’t understand why does no one want to be unique or make something hand made
I wish I could of worn my mom’s and my Grandmother’s dress (same dress) and I had permission to remove the sheer (no lace or beading) sheer cover for the neck line and sleeves to open up the arm holes but also make it a bit more modern while keeping the same look.
That what I was hoping for the one with the pearls hanging in the back; that they'd just remove the sleeves and adjust the skirt but no they destroyed it
@@FaiAshlandyes! That original was my favorite, the details were absolutely stunning,I can’t believe they trashed it 😮
@@melodyandbryanphillips8304 yeah and the hideous mistake that they made out of that beautiful dress is gonna be something they regret making in a few years time
Honestly I would have removed the sleeves and wore the rest as it is (keeping the sleeves in case someone wants them put back).
I mean, at that point might as well custom order a brand new wedding “dress”.
if you want a modern dress buy a modern dress, dont destroy a vintage one
Right?? The tacky crap they want is out there cheap, leave these vintage dresses alone!
dang I was gunna comment this. Besides vintage dress are pretty rare

That’s what a normal person does. But these girls..... are definitely not normal.
I think it’s one thing to make adjustments and tailor it to you, but some of these redos are ridiculous.
but I think you'll have to cut something and sew it on, there's no way this dress will fit another person?
Yeah it’s because they want to appear like the kardashians.
This!!
The worst part is there not even saving money! Dress alterations are expensive!

Yep, we'll just use the "sexy bride" costume I wore to last year's Halloween party for the wedding.
As a lover of beautiful and rare vintage clothing, this was extremely painful to watch. I literally felt a part of me dying inside! There's a simple solution these girls just don't seem to understand:
1) If you want a vintage-inspired look so badly, just make one, or hire somebody to make a modern dress that replicates the unique characteristics of your mom or your grandma's dress.

Absolutely agreed!!!!! There's so much cheaply produced stuff that's easier to reproduce that doesn't have this kind of artistry put into it anymore, please respect the artisans who poured decades of practice, knowledge, and finely honed skill into these precious old things... ;_;
2:58 THIS HURT MY SOUL I WANNA CRY...THIS IS THE MOST GORGEOUS WEDDING DRESS I HAVE SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, I LOVE IT OH GOODNESS WHY'D YOU DO ITTTT TwT
I WANT TO SCREAM AND DIE AAAHHH
Guess what? You are allowed to buy any dress you want and their are more tacky vintage dresses for you to have
This whole trend can be summed up as "Just because you can. Doesn't mean you should."
This situation is the definition of “You could, but it doesn’t mean you should” 😭😭
that upcycling trend needs. to. leave. vintage. ALONE!!
3:00 the original was so beautiful and museum worthy 😭
It really was, what they did to it made me physically sick.
I could see redesigning it by taking off the puff sleeve part and replacing the mesh/lace as sleeves, but they completely trashed it.
@ville__ YOU HAVE 1-2 VIDEOS AND ONE IS WHERE YOU STEP ON A PRIDE FLAG, GROW UP
I don't even like dresses but if I was given it I WOULD TREASURE IT!!!
@lwaysDrawing Same! The "renovations" had caused me so much pain its practically torture.
Seeing that beautiful dress destroyed hurt too deeply 😭
My mum actually wore a mini dress at her wedding back in 1994 & looked stunning. Still don't understand why they don't get for a new one, if they want to change that much about the look.
Exactly and it's not like wearing a mini wedding dress is the most absurd thing ever as discussed.
The mini look skirts look so jagged and not cut properly, buying an actual mini wedding dress would look better not cheaply quickly put together .
1:42 The “Before” dress was so GORGEOUS I want it 😭😭😭😭 She even ruined the sleeves 😭
THE AFTER PART LOOKS LIKE IT CAME FROM SHEIN AT 50% OFF 😭😭😭
@@fig_flop exactly 😭😭😭
😭😭😭
The sleeves were the worst part lol
before: 👗
after: 👙
😂😂😂
Fr
HELPPP
Why is this so true tho?
Truee
The 2nd dress was stunning. I would have just made the Puffs detachable or something. What a shame. This is why some mum's hate their daughters lol
IK THAT ONE WAS STUNNING
that dress was straight up princess dress. imagined waltzing with that dress i choked😭
2:15 Oh my I relate to the rage so much. Just donate vintage dresses and buy new ones. The alterations are so expensive anyway (if their were done by professionals)
2:33 okay bro what the hell?? THAT WAS BEAUTIFUL AT 1ST!
The only thing that made me happy about that one is that seeing it made me realize what style of dress I want for my wedding... whenever I find someone to get married to that is. 😅
I love vintage dresses and I really want something similar to it.
Agreed. It’s because we seem obsessed kardashian and seem trendy and wealthy
Those vintage wedding dresses are breathtaking
Not anymore...
Were. They were breathtaking. 😢
@@Khaeris yeah
@@Khaeris now they look like something I get from party city with how bad they look
Someone spent hours working on that dress, just for some idiot from the modern day to ruin it because they think they can “make it better”
As a future fashion student, this video took away 10 years of life from me
8:36 I literally gasped at seeing this gorgeous dress.
8:43 that's not a wedding dress, that's what i was wearing in royal high on new years in 2018 💀💀
😭😭💀💀
WHY IS THIS SO REAL. I HAD THAT SKIRT IN PINK AND IT WAS THE MOST EXPENSIVE THING I OWNED
Frr😭😭
HELP
THATS LITERALLY ME BRUH???
Am crying at the tissue paper roast 💀💀💀
I’m gonna blow my nose on that dress.
its so true tho. how could you do that
Ngl it kinda looks like a scrunchie or is it just me 😭😭😭
Reminds me of Kim kadashian and the Marilyn man roe dress 😭😭😭
Monroe
6:49 she just turned a gorgeous wedding dress into a burrito looking one 😭
-Nightmare
4:11 the skirt isn’t even straight, oh my god
How hard is it to NOT destroy beautiful vintage stuff? Seriously, the first example is so infuriating. Hate when good stuff is ruined by this.
I don’t like how they are trying to be like kardashains
@ville__ Nope.
Not all vintage stuff is good, are y'all being deliberately obtuse? Let people do what they want.
@GM-qq1wi Yeah but the Vintage Wedding Dresses are beautiful and good and they destroy them
@mamabear1394 yeah but, yeah but, yeah but.... did you even readywhati wrote? Educate your foolish self; vintage doesn't equal quality.
vintage items should always be treasured. it actually hurts my retro fanatic heart to see this
I am very glad that after watching this video I saw a video of a person turning a wedding dress more whimsical
8:40 THE WAY MY JAW DROPPED AT THAT TRANSFORMATION (and not in awe)
First the antiques, and now the wedding dresses
Reminds me of the trend of people ruining stunning old houses. No one appreciates gorgeous craftsmanship anymore.
Heres the thing, you can do what you want and let others do what they want. The entitlement is out of this world
a wedding dress shall not be harmed bcz it all has their unique style, history, and the very significant event's memory.
it's not 'redesigning' no. it's ruining and not valuing the dress and what it means by
I agree but.... YOU WATCH HAILEY TOO?? 😨
@@Luhvouu wait...U TOO?!? OMG WHAT
Exactly it would be like if I took my mom's clothes and "REDESIGNED" them. My ass. Leave your parent's PRIZED POSESSIONS ALONE.
I think turning old unused clothing (even wedding dresses if the owner no longer wants them) is great and even if some people prefer the old style I think it’s okay but there is a line
If you turn a gorgeous dress with a lot of fabric and delicate details where clearly a lot of work went in into a plain white dress you should just buy a new wedding dress
Because styles and taste change and evolve. Why would you live your life for someone else? Do what makes you happy
Not everyone is that sentimental. Isn\t it wonderful how we don\t all have to like the same things??
Omg at 5:12 , her dress before looked so cute and would’ve fit a wedding, but after look like a rushed TEMU purchase 😭😭😭
I shedded tears of disappointment and horror at 2:54
The original dress was magnificent. The remake hurt to look at.
If I was at the girl's wedding at 6:45 I would have been like ",why are you cosplaying as a wad of toilet paper dipped in water"
My mom donated her beautiful wedding dresses (they were traditional from our country) to women who can’t afford it who are getting married
My mom had a beautiful asymmetrical short wedding dress and she wore these CUTE custom Lacey booties. She slayed. I have that dress today and I could wear it without modification other than whitening
If my mom ever gave me something beautiful and I destroyed it...she would NEVER EVER talk or even give me anything EVER AGAIN.
Anyone who does this unfathomable crime must be jailed.
As someone who is trying really hard to find a beautiful modest dress for prom, because I really love the look and feel of dresses with high necklines and long sleeves... these videos pain me. 😭
wedding dresses are fast fashion so ik they have sentimental value but as long as everyones happy i dont see a problem w altering it how u want
