    What a rig! way more power, luxury and off-road capability than any other new 4x4, payload is not an issue for 90% of buyers, I have a Ute and have only ever had more than 500kg in it once in a year

    Great review! I agree that I also would need more payload and diesel for touring but weekends around Sydney, it might be the perfect vehicle. It is so nice to see a review where we see the limit of a vehicle off-road, thanks!

    I always debate what the actual reason the window controls are in the centre, because if the doors are off the car you cant use the windows anyway.

    • @soumilsharma5109
      @soumilsharma5109 4 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Reomoving the doors would be more complicated if the switches where on the doors.

    • @xaviermac7660
      @xaviermac7660 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Not so sure about that, cause you still have a power and switching wire that has to be disconnected when it's in the centre. If it was on the door only a power wire. So not sure that it makes it any easier...

      @00ninja00 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wouldn’t matter if they put it on the door, regardless u gotta remove a power wire clip when removing doors. I’m sure it’s not much more to throw in an extra wire or two for the window switches. IMO it’s cuss it’s always been that way and so they just kept it the same.
      But I agree, it would’ve been better to put the window switches on the door, I find myself looking for the switches on the door at the beginning of owning the truck until I got used to it. It is more intuitive on the doors, in the middle makes less sense and way less intuitive.

    • @hugenbergerdesigns
      @hugenbergerdesigns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Some people have kids and they’ll only take off the front door and not the back doors. So if they have the window locks on it allows for the driver to still have control over the back windows

    You missed the best part of that whole track. Greans Break road is just a dirt track up until just around the corner from that tree it got stuck on..... then that is where the action really starts, straight back up the edge of the mountain, back onto Martinsville Hill Road. Would've been interesting to see it tackle THAT part of the track.
    All in all, It's still a Jeeps. Nothing else to say 😁👍

    If I lived in a country where the ford ranger raptor was available, I’d buy that instead. The ranger raptor is such a beautifully designed truck. The Jeep gladiator is for Jeep enthusiasts, you gotta like the look of the Jeep, or else it can be a pretty weird looking truck since it IS basically a Jeep Wrangler with a bed.

    Great review. Starting to assess options to replace the Patrol GU, but the payload is a BIG issue for me. Would have to see what GVM upgrades some to, but generally based on Wrangler prices.. you're easily talking +10-15K total, which makes this a really expensive option. Even though would love to have one.. if only the G300 payload would be on this one, then it would be a BIG winner! ;-P

    I like how most reviewers skip the fact that this and the Wrangler, has such an awful crash safety rating. In this day and age it is unacceptable, and shouldn't be allowed on the road until they rectify the issues. But certain car makers put profit and budgeting, over their consumers safety.

    • @themisunderstoodgorilla7030
      @themisunderstoodgorilla7030 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol, the previous model wrangler had a good rating, and the new model is better but has a worse rating, why is that ? because the goal posts are constantly shifting for the ANCAP rating, Ford Mustang for one had a terrible rating, until they added all these random alarms etc for changing lanes or lights for when someone in another car drives next to you.... and nows it rating is good? Its a bit of a joke, and several manufacturers get around this by getting their first model tested then not really changing the model so they dont have to re-do the test. Toyota Hilux passed in like 2005 got a good score, if the same toyota hilux did the test today it would score terribly.....

    • @jeremyboyle1576
      @jeremyboyle1576 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@themisunderstoodgorilla7030 I agree with you about the mustang, it only scored higher because it added a few safety features. But like the wrangler, their total Ancap rating is good but if you look into their structural ratings they both score very poorly unless you are in the driver's seat. Everywhere else in the car, for eg. where your kids would be sitting they are not safe at all.

    • @themisunderstoodgorilla7030
      @themisunderstoodgorilla7030 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeremyboyle1576 well the problem is that a ladder frame (chassis) vehicle is always at a disadvantage. I read somewhere that to get the score any higher the vehicle would end up being that expensive no one in their right mind would buy one. You have to compare apples with apples. And theres probably a reason why there are very few ladder frame utes that have beam axles and are actually capable off road. Its about compromises. Ancap for me plays next to nothing when I purchase a vehicle. As long as it has a rating and air bags thats good enough for me. I think if you are buying this particular vehicle to drive around the city and drop off your lods you're possibly buying the wrong vehicle

    • @jeremyboyle1576
      @jeremyboyle1576 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@themisunderstoodgorilla7030 agreed 👍 These vehicles should be an adventure vehicle (weekend warrior), not an everyday family hauler. Ancap need to make their ever changing rating system more transparent for the everyday buyer, for the person who safety does play a major factor when buying a vehicle. There is to big a difference between one 5 star car, to the next when it comes to passenger safety.

    • @themisunderstoodgorilla7030
      @themisunderstoodgorilla7030 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jeremyboyle1576 Also the fact that the Gladiator was never tested they just used the JL Wrangler rating despite the Gladiator performing better in USA crash tests where the JL failed. Also seems pretty weird how manufacturers vehicles qualify to require a test, For example, the Landcruiser 70 Series apparently got tested in 2016, Volkswagen amarok back in 2011. where they scored quite well, however the test is different now. But those old test scores are used as a comparison to brand new vehicles that have just been tested. Also another thing that I think about is modifications, I highly doubt a brand new ranger or Hilux would fair nearly as well once its been lifted/got completely different suspension to fit bigger tyres, where as you can fit bigger tyres on the Jeep pretty much stock. Theres so many variable is too hard to compare, Hence as long as it has a ok rating, which it does thats more than good enough for me.

    What a total waste of time mate. You've given no reason to sell other than to highlight exactly what you knew going in to the purchase. And then you to on to spruke your restaurant. And then you say you have a company car - hence getting rid of the keep. Clickbait!!!!

      Have had 2 dirt bikes on my 2013 Mazda BT-50 without any issue.
      4x4 Utes and SUVs for our region (and many other markets), can't be too wide and long, because of how our roads and parking/underground lots are designed. Many of our 4x4 off-road trails are very narrow, and even a Jimny would only just make it through. Think rainforests and rocky (and high level) terrain too, with dangerous narrow sections.

    wouldn't buy... wheel base too long, shitty accessories options, suspension too low and at the end of the day it is a jeep which along with most american vehicles is horrible value for money

      @dallasmellsop5488 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Uhhh any serious wheeler will lift it anyways, hell with a 3" lift you can fit 40s on it, plus you've got the factory twin lockers, sway bar disconnect, live axles all the way round and what do you mean about sh*try assesiory options? It's go the best, along with every other typical assesiory, you can get tube doors etc

      Not mated to that 8 speed transmission. On 35's I'm getting 19.8 mpg!

      Ed Dreyer BS you are. Maybe going downhill at 40mph with a tailwind. It’s long established by every Jeep owner but especially Rubi owners. Between the shape of the vehicle and the weight combined with the nobbies, it’s 17 at best doing 55

    ‘Testament to how good it is, even though it didn’t do it’. Summed up beautifully. So it gave you the impression that it was capable, and then proved you misguided.

    • @mechmat12345

      You can put 35s on it with no lift and you can get a 2" mopar lift at any dealer. It was literally a set of tires away from making it over that obstacle and there's a lot of room for upgrades if you want/need them.

      It's neutered for the aus market. For some reason it can't tow as much has lower payload and smaller tires.
