I wouldn't call the 3.6L a "dog". My JL Wrangler with 2.5" lift and 35" mud tires does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds according to the dash timer. The engine has plenty of power and the torque curve is surprisingly flat if you look at a dyno sheet. Torque comes on quick and stays for a long time. Like the quick disconnect for the roof top sections. Had a 98 Wrangler Sport for 10 years previously.
KingOfSorrow 1217 I wouldn’t touch a ZR2 at all. Not much after market support for lift or bumpers and there rear shock design is terrible and hangs below the pumpkin.
I like the payload numbers but the design makes most of the cargo weight sit behind the rear axle which will create rather light steering when loaded. Not a good option for a lightweight truck camper...
I can''t wait for the Gladiators to start hitting the dealer lots. I've been considering going back to a jeep, so I'm very curious to see how it compares to the wrangler.
Neither the ZR2 nor the Tacoma will be half as capable as this thing modified. This can take 37" tires stock. Neither of those trucks can even be modified to run 37s to my knowledge.
@@Kona61 with parts of the frame cut out and probably $6000 worth of suspension and another $4000 in axle shafts and still break drivetrain components. AD1 I didn’t make a single claim about cost or actual applicability of 40s. However, they can fit. I do like jeeps, but it cannot be ignored that there are trade offs between it and Toyota’s.
Ive been following the media closely regarding the Gladiator. The biggest critique I see, is the price (im guessing the estimates are fair, but we have no real info yet). Something to remember when asking who would buy it, would be that a lot of jeep buyers prefer overlanding to pure rock crawling. This will probably be a top contender in that segment. A truck with real offroad credibility, and enough space to haul the family and all the gear for long trips. Plus its this massive thing that wont fit through tight trails. Very niche, I know, but def a winner
It's the only pick up with removable doors and top along with, solid axles. They can name their price since they are the only ones to offer that package. They will sell
Great review but how much more power do you really need in a midsize truck? With the auto trans and 4.10 gearing my 18’ JLUR feels a lot more powerful than my 14’ JKUR. Add a cold air intake, cat back, and computer tune, that should put it a little over 300hp.
@@4-LOW np trucks have an electric cooling fan because cooling is way to important on a reliable vehicle...of course thats the least of your worries in a Jeep
I've got a 2015 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. I can't see using it as a truck. The fatigue caused by the noise in the cabin from not having a real hard cab is enough to keep me away from it for long distance hauling duties. pull out the DB meter at 70 and you'll this this to be true.
I really love the look of this truck but 3 things really worry me about it. 1. I actually got to sit in this (and the new Ford Ranger) and ergonomically I think drivers are going to be less comfortable in a Gladiator. I didn’t get to drive it but it just seemed weird to me. Maybe it was bad seat adjustments but it instantly turned me off. 2. Usability and wind noise. Jeeps are notorious for being less useful than their competitors when it comes to daily driving. Specifically comfort, reliability, and wind noise levels are rated very poorly. Is the hard top (not even going to ask about the soft top) doing enough to quiet the ride? 3. Price, with the standard jeep easily getting into territory higher than a top line Taco, Ranger, & Ridgeline how much more would someone need to dish out for a comparably built Gladiator? (I guess we’ll all find out very soon). Awesome video, keep it up! With the manual and a lift kit I think this thing would be perfect for off road camping adventures.
Excellent as always bringing us the scoop Andre. Also worth noting this will be the only 4x4 American truck with a manual transmission option as the Ram 2500 is removing that option I believe.
Jeep is owned by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, which is one of the world's biggest automakers. The Jeep brand is a division of FCA US LLC, a subsidiary of the Italian parent company.
You can still get a Manuel transmission in a newer Ford truck in a another country closets to us in america would be in Mexico, don't know about Canada
@@hihaveaniceday9386 Can you even register a truck like that from another country? I feel like our government would have a problem with that somehow. Not to mention repair issues having a truck not meant for sale in the US

Solid axles, sway bar disconnect, front and rear lockers, all these options should be way more standard on all trucks. But this.. is not a "truck".. it's a jeep with a bed. 1600 payload and idk towing but probably very bad.. only useful off-road
Gary Sisk good for you man! I've owned multiple Mopar vehicles including Ram and Jeep built within the last 10 years and had nothing but issues with them. Used to love them, but not anymore.
I have a Toyota T100 and something I notice on the Gladiator that also affects my T100 is the amount of box length sticking out past the rear wheels. Your egress angle on this thing is going limit you. Buckling your rear quarter panels sucks...ask me how I know.
Why is everyone trying so hard to prove this thing can go off road? It's a Jeep that's built with mostly JL parts on the chassis so of course it will go off road, with less break over angle due to the length. I want them to prove that this thing can do truck stuff. That's how they will sell me on it. I don't just want another Jeep with a bed
It can do everything the mid-size truck class can do. Matches or beats payload and towing capacities of competitors. The frame is different from the Wrangler. Much heavier duty. The only thing is it comes in only the one cab and bed length.

Beef Stew Generally speaking, trucks are usually cheaper than their SUV counterparts in most instances. I can’t see this being priced more than the Wrangler. Pricing should be in line with the Wrangler If not a bit cheaper. Otherwise they’re making a huge mistake.
Not sure why everyone thinks the truck will cost like 10K more. I guess we’ll see. I wouldn’t doubt that the one tested gets in 60s somewhere or near it. I have to guess the standard Rubicon gladiator starts in the 40s. Not everyone has to get a Rubicon either or even needs one.
Been waiting for a Jeep Truck for years. Brilliantly done in my opinion and far exceeds my expectations for payload and towing and comes with solid axles and a manual tranny. However based on the prices of the JL here in Canada which are approaching 70k, it’s hard to take on the monthly payments.
This Jeep is the best competitor to the Tacoma TRD Pro. And I love Tacoma to the core but I believe the Gladiator has a slight edge on it. But as far as reliability goes it’s still Tacoma hands down.

OFFRD Yeah I cant see that engine doing very well with 7000 pounds in tow.
@@mikemissouri5152 lol 3.6 is a dog. My dads 1500 struggles
PLUS let's not forget that the JL/JT models have the 850RE transmission with the 4.71 first gear, so getting off the line with a trailer isn't an issue.
OFFRD True. My bad I was actually thinking of the Taco V6 which is definitely a dog.
@@jacobhanson9009 I am not sure I would ever have this engine in a truck, but in my 2017 Jeep GC its way more then adequate. I have the hemi in my truck and wouldn't have anything else
I like these. Definitely picking up a Rubicon Gladiator after a couple years and all the options are out.
And also they need a single cab option!!! Common jeep give us a manual single cab 6ft bed option
With 90% of Wranglers sold being 4 door... Don't hold your breath. Simple economics. Even thou it would be cool to have a 2 door option.
I didn't want one. You did a great job showing it off. Now I want one.
Looks like a nice truck. I would like to see it lifted with some bigger tires🤔
love my 2020 LE so far...have had it about 6 months now .... Fuel Avg for the 5k miles on it so far is 16 mpg though most miles are commuter miles with lots of stops/start! My purpose for getting it was off-roading (tame rock crawling) mostly over landing trips with RTT , fishing poles and remote camping...Hate ESS -- glad I can press a button to disable it! took me a while to create the habit to just instinctively do it right away! Like the quick disconnect for the roof top sections. Had a 98 Wrangler Sport for 10 years previously.
I would love a single cab gladiator
lrchava07 im with u. 4dr is too long for me
Been waiting to see this, it’s either this in diesel or the ZR2 diesel
KingOfSorrow 1217 I wouldn’t touch a ZR2 at all. Not much after market support for lift or bumpers and there rear shock design is terrible and hangs below the pumpkin.
Going to get a ZR2, I dont like the way jeeps look. Otherwise I think I would go with the jeep.
corpsman247 but it looks much better and drives way better. Ride and handling is 10 times better than what the Jeep offers.
WOW, an 84:1 crawl ratio with the manual Trans! How cool is that? Beats the Tacoma and ZR2 all to hell!!
KingOfSorrow 1217 the bison version? It seems like you get so much more
I like the payload numbers but the design makes most of the cargo weight sit behind the rear axle which will create rather light steering when loaded. Not a good option for a lightweight truck camper...
I can''t wait for the Gladiators to start hitting the dealer lots. I've been considering going back to a jeep, so I'm very curious to see how it compares to the wrangler.
I like that Rubicon a lot but I'm fairly convinced you'd be able to get a ZR2 for $10k less.
or a Tacoma
Neither the ZR2 nor the Tacoma will be half as capable as this thing modified. This can take 37" tires stock. Neither of those trucks can even be modified to run 37s to my knowledge.
AD1 Marlin Crawlers 2015 Tacoma runs 40’s.
@@Kona61 with parts of the frame cut out and probably $6000 worth of suspension and another $4000 in axle shafts and still break drivetrain components. I reckon the gladiator will take 40s with a three inch lift kit and you could build two absolutely invincible D44s for $4000 all day and actually rock crawl with those 40s rather than mall crawl.
I don't know how I feel about this?!? It's weird kind of cool looking.
....LOL!!!! Agreed. I'm looking at it and liking it, but this truck has me scratching my head as well.....
It’s ugly
It’s like a mullet imo. Maybe a little ugly, but awesome in its own way
I'll give you another opening bullet point. Will this truck be the most expensive mid-size in America??
You can bet on that
Fully convertible engineering ain't cheap
Yup
It's the only pick up with removable doors and top along with, solid axles. They can name their price since they are the only ones to offer that package. They will sell
make an 8 foot box and regular cab with a 5.7 liter v8 and then I will buy it!
Go buy a ram?
Would be really ugly
Great review but how much more power do you really need in a midsize truck? With the auto trans and 4.10 gearing my 18’ JLUR feels a lot more powerful than my 14’ JKUR. Add a cold air intake, cat back, and computer tune, that should put it a little over 300hp.
How loud is that new cooling fan? I know noise is a problem on the JL
It's not a problem. It's a blessing. Keeps the engine cool in all offroad conditions, even in the desert.
Not as loud as standing next to a highway with a overheated engine lol
R Shiery, WIN
Have a JL & have not even once heard an overworked fan. Mercedes-Benz are known for that problem; not an issue on my Jeep.
@@4-LOW np trucks have an electric cooling fan because cooling is way to important on a reliable vehicle...of course thats the least of your worries in a Jeep
I love you’re guys videos, just got cleared from Ford for a F-150 but I’m passing, waiting on this to be released instead!!!
lol that max leverage.... you just use another wrench. and its free.
Or a cheater pipe lol
Yea I just have a big hollow pipe it was laying around and cost nothing you would be crazy to buy one of those
Andrew Moore same, just a small thick long pipe, leverage is a great thing
Yall going to hurt his sponsorship. Lol. Have to keep those tricks secret.
2 door plz and shorten the departure by 6 inches
I wonder if it will have a regular cab option? Probably Not.
Hoping you’ll have Canadian pricing too.
Excellent video as always Andre!
This should become TFL's next long-term truck
Reko Sri, if they can afford it. This isn’t going to be cheap.
I hear Nathan already “Gladiator Rubicon don’t care!”
I bet Nathan doesnt like it
Bet he will because it comes with a manual transmission.
I want one. A longer wheelbase is perfect for towing my pop-up camper. But I can also go exploring off-road.
Dararit Chao Jeep is an American company even being a part of FCA
You can still get a Manuel transmission in a newer Ford truck in a another country closets to us in america would be in Mexico, don't know about Canada
@@hihaveaniceday9386 Can you even register a truck like that from another country? I feel like our government would have a problem with that somehow. Not to mention repair issues having a truck not meant for sale in the US
@@srtmetal7647 yea it's called importing and totally legal but I think there is a year limit
I am impressed!!!!! So many options!!!! And a manual transmission !!!!! Great video and thanks for sharing!!!
It’s cheaper to use another wrench 🔧 for more leverage
Hah I was looking at that ad and thinking.... amateurs lol
that soft top looks like its going to just catch wind like crazy when driving with it open
I would consider getting one but I already have a Jeep truck. It’s a 1954 with a v8... 7.4 v8😤
Jayden s ?
7.4 v8 that puts out less power than a modern 4cyl 😂
I am planning to buy one of these specifically the Rubicon and do engine swapping, probably a reliable V8 engine which is compatible for this model. What do you think and which V8 engine is ideal for this truck?
Coolest midsized truck hands down!
It’s disappointing that some of the images on the buttons are shaped like wranglers and not gladiators.
Trying to save money
Justin Williams Very true.
Love it. Really cool. But it’s still a midsize truck at a full-size price. So nope.
Full size trucks are sixty grand.
Solid axles, sway bar disconnect, front and rear lockers, all these options should be way more standard on all trucks. But this.. is not a "truck".. it's a jeep with a bed. 1600 payload and idk towing but probably very bad.. only useful off-road
@@VicVinegar710 that's what this is too
First does it come with skeet or skeet skeet?
I have a feeling this truck would look badass lifted with wide wheel stance n mts!!
I don’t plan on mudding very much. Mostly overlanding. So I’m not worried about the over hang
I can see a Dodge Dakota coming back soon that in a diesel is going to be awesome and this truck is awesome too
They killed off the Dakota for this to take its place
@@TheLootownpunx Ram and Jeep were both planning mid sized trucks.
I agree, the coolest truck ever!!
You know most people will use them as a mall crawler. Hopefully the build quality is better than all of the other Fiat/Chrysler products.
chris thompson yup all the moms will have LED bars and a lift just to get the groceries
No problem with mine, I own both the pickup and Jeep Grand Cherokee. 200k on one with no problems
Things beautiful looking. Its basically a short bed truck with upgraded off-road capability. Well done.
Best truck ever so cool but no v8 and the bed is small
BUSHCRAFT QUEBEC it’s not meant for that get a 1500 if you want a long bed n v8. It’s meant to compete with the ranger n Colorado
I have to put all my money to make it offroady. Bilstein 5100 procomp control arms icon 1.5 raised springs and 1 inch spacer thats 1400$canadian not to mention i cant afford those 2000$ 2.0 suspension kits like icon 2.0 and bilstein 6112
if i look in to bumpers its 4000$ front back lockers 2000$ front back and im looking for ox lockers for 1500 .... cant find that
So its becoming a money pit .
I see where your coming from
Awesome review Andre!!! Love the new wranglers and this Gladiator.
Waiting for that “I can do that with my Corolla” comment lol
Big deal, I can do that in my Corolla!!
Roman- I was wondering why the increase in towing when gladiator has so much in common with wrangler. Thank you for explaining that.
I think you may be over hyping the "Jeep Truck". In person it may be different but, in videos I don't like the dimensions. Something is wrong?
Man I had been saving up for a new 4x4 or AWD vehicle for nearly a year, was planning on a Outlander V6 GT or a Frontier 4x4 until I saw this coming out. Holy GAWD I wanted this so BAD a convertible 4x4 pickup based on the Jeep!!! But some things happened in the family, and I ended up buying a new leftover 2018 Ram Promaster full size high roof cargo van WTF!? Part time Handicap van, part time pickup truck, and part time camp in the thing because why not! So far no regrets this huge van is so unlike anything I've owned in the past, and I've had tons of used and a couple new Pickup's over the last 19 years of driving.
Promaster vs NV vs Transit vs Sprinter vs Dinosaur Express on the Ike Gauntlet. DO IT, Make it happen! My money is on the AWD Sprinter and AWD Transit 2020 to kick ass.
No diesel... No hemi... No thanks.
Drove a 2019 JL... One of the worst vehicles I've ever driven... And I owned a lifted XJ for years.
Why was it so bad?
Diesel coming out in a year or two
That soft top sitting on top seems like it would be super loud around town. Also seems like it would catch wind sitting like that.
I wonder the cost? 70 grand for the truck you tested?
I'd guess 55-60, either way, way too much for the class. But jeeptards will buy them up like candy either way so they can price it wherever they want
You can get a rubicon wrangler pushing. 60 grand so I'd say close to 70 for a fully loaded after tax
Beef Stew Generally speaking, trucks are usually cheaper than their SUV counterparts in most instances. I can’t see this being priced more than the Wrangler. Pricing should be in line with the Wrangler If not a bit cheaper. Otherwise they’re making a huge mistake.
Dakota Jeeptards? Anyone that has the money to have a vehicle that is truly in a class of its own? Is this what you are talking about?
Take up on Cliffhanger 2.0.
So the non-rubicon has a front Dana 44 also?
Yes
This Jeep is the best competitor to the Tacoma TRD Pro. And I love Tacoma to the core but I believe the Gladiator has a slight edge on it. But as far as reliability goes it’s still Tacoma hands down.
@քօӀվʍօɾքհìҟ I sat in a Gladiator at the Vancouver car show,'Im 6'5 and even with the seat all the way back my knee was contacting the dash.Unless I put in a seat extender it wouldn't work for me.
I would love to compare one to my H3T alpha, so similar but each has its pros and cons. I can admit the gladiators superior off road but I still love my h3t
lastbhatalive stay tuned lol I’m planning to just haven’t had time
That is going to be a great seller for Jeep.
I’m definitely buying one of these. The break over will be better with a set of 37” tires on and it will actually go through the amazing trails here in Colorado. A full-size is too wide otherwise I’d have one. The diesel will be perfect for the big tires. It won’t come with a manual with the diesel but i’m ok with that if it means over 400 foot pounds of torque for those big ass tires.
Cute Barbie truck, should make a great rental.
Yep next year that’s my new truck
I just want one 😍😍😍😍
Great follow up vid can’t wait next full vid👍
Looks good i wonder if it has the same weld issues as the wrangler jl and how its aproach, breakover and departure angle compare to the zr2
Well he listed the angles so you can stop wondering.
