    Great tutorial! I found it really helpful! I have just one advice as an electrical engineer when it comes to soldering - if you can, use leaded solder and add a lot of flux on the soldered coated pads before soldering the wires. Generally gel flux works better than those flux pens. At the end the leaded solder joint should be shiny. I recommend leaded solder, because it's still used in aerospace industry thanks to its superior resistance to vibrations. Cheap lead-free solder, especially one without a healthy amount of silver, such as the cheapest Sn 99.7% Cu 0.3%, is prone to cracking and I would not recommend it for use in drones, as it can give up on you after a few crashes or worse - in flight.

      I am not a promoter for any type or company of fpv but I mysef learned how to build through TH-cam university and a xilo 6s hd complete build kit. There are many types of diy fpv build kits on the market that is a great starting point to learn how to build following a step by step video. Only thing I truly recommend is learning how to solder properly . Rotor riot has solderless solder free builds but in the world of fpv soldering is usually a must have skill for repairs and believe me when I say you will crash and need to repair

    Just some support to people nervous, long time line of sight planker here. I have quite a bit of soldering practice but I decided to build my own drones. Was a headache at first, but used jb’s guide eventually and built up a few drones and had a small fire or two but now I am building some sick drones and encourage others to try. Very satisfying and think it would have gone way easier if I followed a diy kit off the bat. You all can do it!

  • @Kraken9911
    @Kraken9911 2 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    I've been building PC's since the mid 2000's. This feels similar in that you just need to know what a full parts list should consist of before starting. I'd rate this is as slightly harder though since PC building is basically legos. The required soldering action for this makes it a bit harder for the true casual. That requires mechanical skill and also the ability to analyze a wiring diagram.
    I thought a DIY drone would be some highly complex stuff but my perspective was from a long time ago before the industry matured to what it is now. Thanks for the confidence boost for when I attempt mine!

    • @TRONCATFPV

    nice build. very clean! friendly tip, try turning up the temp on your iron a bit. I noticed the solder not quite getting to temperature when you were doing the battery leads on the ESC. thats a result of the iron cooling down too much. you can either turn the temp up or wait longer in-between soldering each pad. that way your soldered pad will be a nice dome shape with a mirror finish. which leads to a better and stronger connection. The hotter your iron is, the more you can do before it drops below the threshold to properly melt the solder.

    • @mikea3169
      @mikea3169 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For analog, your best bet would be to power the camera from the filtered 5v from the VTX. The trick is to attact the ground wire from the 5V output from the VTX to both the camera, and a ground pad near the OSD chip on the FC. This will help reduce OSD flicker. PropsOff has a good video on this; search TH-cam for VTX redundant ground and you'll find it. Good luck 👍

    Those 3 wires from motors soldered to ESC, they have specific order? or you can put them random on ESC?

    • @TRONCATFPV
      @TRONCATFPV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can put them in any order and can then change the motor direction if needed in betaflight or BL-Heli 👍

    I am wanting to build one of these but I'm wanting a 7' long range Cruiser. I was wondering if they sell the plug-in because I don't have steady hands anymore. Also what would be the best battery. One more thing could you also tell me what receiver and transmitter would be best😊

    I'm a petrochemical engineer who is exploring the idea of using drones (and I already know that they are being used in some places) to monitor equipment inside of plants. This was a great video and a good start. How are drones for steady video live view monitoring? Okay, there seems to be a lot I need to still learn. I will be looking forward to your next video and review your older ones, thanks again.

    Hello there, I used your Video as a guide for my first Drone. Everything was running fine. Ty so much! Except of one little Problem. I connected my receiver with my contrroller. Betaflight shows me the Pitch, yaw, Roll and throttle. But when I move the switches, nothing happens. Do u know how to fix it? Ty

    Thanks for the great video, I would like to build this and use my old Taranis with the ELRS is their anything I need to set in the Taranis model that's special for ELRS to work? Also have you had any failsafes using ELRS?

    • @TRONCATFPV
      @TRONCATFPV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haven't had any failsafes yet, then again I haven't really tested too crazy range.
      As far as the Taranis goes you'll just have to make sure you have the crossfire protocol installed and change from internal RF to External and you should be good!
      What model Taranis do you have exactly?

    • @highestvirtue1892
      @highestvirtue1892 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TRONCATFPV Thanks for the help its the Taranis X9D. So just turn Crossfire protocol and switch to external rf got it! Should I turn on Dshot for smoother flying or that doesnt mk a big difference?

    compliments for the video, i watch part of the movie and i have noted that you have connected a capacitor to the connector of batterie, and it is useless .. not vantage I mean; if you want to use capacitor to compensate the inductance of power line you must connect the capacitor at the end of power line! then it means you must connect the capacitor at the end of power line, at the ESC board, directly to esc power input, do you agree?

    • @TRONCATFPV
      @TRONCATFPV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have noticed no difference in performance wether the capacitor is on the battery pads or the XT60 connector.
