I know Porsche could fix this but I think they choose not to. Just a heads up if you plan to buy one and not track it.
well you can buy a turbo with a 6.000rpm redline and your second gear ends a lot earlier. What people don’t understand is that the 6 Gear is already at 4.000rpm at 150km/h (I live in Germany btw) which is cruising speed here. If they would shorten the gears significantly the vmax would go down and I would be at nearly 5.000rpm. Which is just to much to get from A to B. High Revving engines naturally have a „long gearing“ the GT3 has the same problem and basically nobody cries about that.
The new 4.0 liter has so much useable torque, the gearing is not an issue. I own a manual GTS with the 4.0, and it's the best car I've ever owned. The gearing "issue" is overplayed, it's not a deal-breaker, trust me.
I was pulled over by a cop in northwestern Ontario Canada because my from plate was ajar. I got out to look at the plate. The officer said to me, what a nice car. Great review men.
Another great review boys! I am in talks with a Porsche dealership in regards to a GT4-RS now it comes with a hefty premium and is something I have to consider but if I do get one. I will let you know asap!
It feels like Porsche are the only company left that gives a shit about how the customer feels. They've absolutely nailed the "aspirational-buy" segment of the market. Nobody else makes cars that I want to save up for. Doesn't mean I can afford a Porsche on my wageslave rates, but I want to.
There are few new cars that make we want to put down that much money for a car that is, in essence, useless for all practical purposes - especially with the lower-price segment getting so good - but the GT4 is definitely one of them. Mark is really living the dream, being able to take all those awesome cars on track!
I fucking love my new GT4!!! Amazing for the street, I live up in the mountains and the roads here are a lot better than in Illinois. I drove it 1000 miles in 2 days after I bought it and my back didn't hurt one bit! Biggest weakness is the rear end but that can be partially solved with some rear toe links

Great review. Great sound and video. Cant afford one, but the GT4 and GT3 would be my favorite cars in the world for a track and fun summer only car.. Rich people buy insanely expensive flashy cars.. this would be my holy grail at 110 k . Which is not insanely priced.
Jesus, that launch was CRAZY! I can't believe it "dumps the clutch" at 6500 rpms like that, I wouldn't ever think to try that to get a good launch out of a manual!
Jack's face at 10:56! Haha. I've got one of these and that's exactly the feeling when you floor it, ease off, downshift a few times, the revs hover around 5k and you just want to mash your foot through the floor again. You feel like a racecar driver. It sounds like a racecar., it races for the redline like a racecar... Yes there are fairly average cars that are just as quick, but that is totally missing the point. These NA flat 6 engines make you feel like a child.
Porsche spent years saying Cayman was stuck with long gear ratios because they couldn’t fit anything else in and not because it would be faster than the 911. Then magically fit in shorter ratios on the GT4 RS. Another great video! With your technical excellence, I hope you are now on Porsche’s short list for new cards to review.
Andreas Breuninger freely admits that the Cayman sits under the 911 in terms of performance. Of course he won't admit that long gearing also takes away some of the way of driving it on the road. Bit of a shame. I'd rather have Porsche detune the engine and give the manual shorter ratios
7:42 just an interesting observation, the new engine’s stats seems very similar to the S65 4.0L V8 from the E9X M3! Same displacement and similar power, torque, and redline. Just done with 2 less cylinders haha
So appreciate your brilliant reviews!! Not being critical at all.....but saying a lotus is too harsh yet owing a aerial atom......?? Love your insights....!

Interesting that Jack states the 981 GT4 engine dies off near redline. I didn't experience that in the few that I've driven. Porsche says it makes peak power at 7400 which is only 400 below redline.
Yeah, I was surprised to hear that as well. I've got a 981 GT4, and that observation differs from my experience. But then again, I had the ECU tuned , and updated the headers some time ago, so perhaps thats alleviated the issue.
Even if it does die off near redline, you can’t feel it to confidently say you notice it. Blown out of proportion IMO. The motor is roaring at those RPMs; no one’s feeling a power dip.
Would be great if you do a video showing what you do to prepare the car for a track day. It seems from the video that you take the care 'as-is' from road to track and back, but this may not be true. This may allow more people to get excited to track their cars as well. Just a suggestion!

well you can buy a turbo with a 6.000rpm redline and your second gear ends a lot earlier.
This is great timing, I just placed my order for one today!
Great production, i watched with pleasure, as usual.
👍
(it doesn't sound like) "a fake symposium of Casio keyboards"! Great line here, Mark.
My car: A fake symposium of Casio keyboards
GT4: Hans Zimmer's wet dream
It’s cars like this that make all the KiHonToyChev crossover videos worth it. Great job guys!
Symposium of Casio Keyboards............great line...bravo.
One of the best car channel out there.
these guys are truly car people..u can really just sense passion in their videos.
You guys do great videos, definitely one the best on here for auto reviews
I was pulled over by a cop in northwestern Ontario Canada because my from plate was ajar. I got out to look at the plate. The officer said to me, what a nice car. I told him to enjoy the rest of his day then I took off. This was version 1 of the GT4. I replaced that car with a 2020 718 Spyder which is great except for the manual roof. Nice problem to have. Great review men.
8:35 and 20 mins video. Got work at 9. Perfect 👍
I appreciate how Mark & Jack refer back to and compare the other 718 4.0 cars in the Track Drive segment.
It’s cool to see people that do car reviews full time, and can still get in a new car and giggle. The real world still has hope 😊
I'm sure you recorded this long before the GT4RS was announced, so I cannot wait to see that video.
Nice review, I love the track part of these awesome performance cars.
The shifts from that PDK is just music. That 4L sounds phenomenal
Seeing you guys enjoy the drive so much made my day lol.
That intro was just so gorgeous.
Keep up the great work guys! How about doing more of those in depth reviews. I'd like to see one on chassis tuning for example.
Got tingles just seeing the video title. I'm here for all 20 mins
I absolutely love the sound of Porsch engines. WOW
9:18 man if you got this kind of money you deserve to the the exact vehicle you want, you go dude
This is the best if the US review channels. Excellent info, likable chaps, stunning videography 👌
Amazing machine. Can't wait to grab one for Black Friday this year.
There are few new cars that make we want to put down that much money for a car that is, in essence, useless for all practical purposes - especially with the lower-price segment getting so good - but the GT4 is definitely one of them. Mark is really living the dream, being able to take all those awesome cars on track!
Great video as always. I took mine on track last week and it screams! With GPF removed and a set of valve controller, it will sound glorious.
I love when TH-cam generates subtitles for the engine sound as [Music]
I fucking love my new GT4!!! Amazing for the street, I live up in the mountains and the roads here are a lot better than in Illinois. I drove it 1000 miles in 2 days after I bought it and my back didn't hurt one bit! Biggest weakness is the rear end but that can be partially solved with some rear toe links
Sorry, what is wrong with the rear? Does it lose traction?
@jay_b.. Hard braking can cause the rear to come loose
I will be happy if the Z06 comes within 90% the 4’s driving dynamics
sure but bigger and more weight to carry
So would I but doubt it will get that close.
Wow I was sitting on the loo and I really felt that launch. Thunderous
I can't wait to see SG make amazing videos on the next generation EV's ................................................................. said no one ever. Keep up the great work guys.
J-hook slots would certainly improve braking with the steel rotors.
Love my AP Racing J hook rotors
@@touringteg I remember reading an article about stock-looking racing car teams and the brake rotors they used. Almost everyone was using AP Racing's J-hook slotted rotors. Years later I was given the opportunity to design stainless steel rotors. The J-hook slotted design is patented so I changed the shape a bit. They still worked very well in our street testing.
Depends how sticky the tyres are and what the clutch holds. I can launch my s2k at 6000 revs also on sticky tyres, any more and it's just wheel spin
9000Redline guess I’m too used to my 6500 REDLINE 😂 I launch at 3500-4000, so it’s kinda proportional now that I think about it.
One of your very best videos, SG. Stunning content.
Great stuff as always, gentlemen.
These guys are having a blast on the track with this car! Love this! I can’t wait to get my GTS 4.0, which should perform pretty close to this GT4.
Had mine since May. You won’t be disappointed. For the road the GTS is all you’ll need and great for touring.
i like how 911 all of a sudden became an amg s-class luxurious car and now the 718 is what the 911 was.
Great video as always, do love the look of the GT4, can’t wait for your GT4 RS video
Just saw the GT4 RS hope you guys review that one!
7:42 just an interesting observation, the new engine’s stats seems very similar to the S65 4.0L V8 from the E9X M3! Same displacement and similar power, torque, and redline. Just done with 2 less cylinders haha
Thats a great observation.
Thank you for these high quality reviews!
Great video on a great car, your videos are so well done and the opinions are dead on for car guys, keep it up!
So appreciate your brilliant reviews!!
Not being critical at all.....but saying a lotus is too harsh yet owing a aerial atom......??
Love your insights....!
He didn't like the atom. I think he sold it. You can tell Mark liked the idea of it, but clearly hated every second driving it.
Spectacular video, awesome quality as always to expect from SavageGeese!!!!!
I'd really like to get one of these but it's a bit over the threshold of how much money I could responsibly spend on a car :(
Amazing review, I was never into Porsche until I started watching reviews on the GT3 and seen the 911 Carerra 4S. These are beautiful cars, I’d love to own one.
12:39 I miss the road noise of the old test route with a turn over railway tracks. Natural light in this video is fantastic tho.
you guys are behind!! Lol The GT4 RS just came out!! Looking forward to that review! It’s got the GT3 Motor now!
Great video. I can relate to cackling and laughing with the thrill of how fun & capable the car is. I’m inspired to fire mine up and get the tires up to temp. It’s going to be a good day.
One of the best cars on the market. Unfortunately most of us can only dream to own one.
The average Porsche owner age is 50+. It takes time to save up, clearly, for most owners too. So don't feel too bad. The time may come..
