    I'm doing a small project. Approximately 8 feet by 8 feet. I can't wait.2 to 4 weeks for the brown coat to cure, will it come out wrong. If I don't wait that long?

    Hi nice video. Can you please explain why there's a need to do separate scratch and brown coats? Why can't you just place a 3/4" thick single coat? How much time must pass after the scratch coat is applied, before the brown coat is added?

    • @Phazetic99
      @Phazetic99 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. The reason to sperate in two coats is because all mud, when it dries, it will shrink. The first coat will crack out the most. The second coat won't crack out as much. Hopefully by the third coat, otherwise known as the finish coat, you won't get anymore shrinkage and cracking. Furthermore, the first coat will tend to sag on the wire, as the paper doesn't have as much suction. You can really straighten everything out on the second coat which will have a high suction from the first coat to not sag as much

      @Phazetic99 Thanks for the reply. Using conventional (but fiber-enriched) stucco, can the 2nd coat be applied as soon as the scratch coat is hard enough, or does the scratch coat have to cure? If so, what is the minimum cure time in approx 70 degree weather?

    • @Phazetic99
      @Phazetic99 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@wildmanofborneo you can, and i have, but the wall tends to buckle when it does that. The way it is advised is to do a 3/8" thick scratch coat, let cure for 48 hours minimum and then a 3/8" brown coat. Let the brown coat cure for at least 7 to 10 days before applying the finish coat. You can let cure longer if you want. The longer the scratch coat sits the higher the suction for the brown coat. The longer the brown coat sit to cure, the less cracks you should get from new house settling, and going through weather changes, especially winter
