- In this video I will show you the proper tools, materials, and procedure for installing the stucco color coat. I will be concentrating on the 3-coat stucco system. We will start off with the type of tools that should be purchased and are widely used in the industry. From there I will show you the proper materials to purchase to complete your project. After we are completed with that we will move on with the application of each coat.
I will provide animated illustrations that go into detail of how and why certain materials work and how they are used in everyday use. Some of my animated illustrations will try and expose the proper way the process should be done.
Once we are finished we will provide a quick recap of my process and procedures, and then follow up with some bloopers.

Thanks 👍
Best video on color coating and stucco in general. Mr. Daher explains the how and why. He is a natural instructor.
Thank You!
Great video. Also one good point to have wear a dust mask or bandana when mixing. Lungs don't like the lime.i haul bulk to omega and lahabra and others.its hell on windy days in nv getting loaded.
Now that's how you spread. Good video. Don't see many good plasters on here

Very informative video. Thanks
Thank you!!
Thank you. This was excellent!
I enjoyed very much your instructions and details. thank you much. Im building an ADU here in San Diego. my primary home is Cat Face stucco. if you have any tips for Cat face please let me know.
Thanks
Since trying to explain the complete process of a Cat Face finish, I will do my best to give you the basics. A Cat Face stucco finish is done in a two layer process as is the smooth Santa Barbara style of finish. The first layer is the base coat, the second layer is applied in the same manner as when doing a smooth finish with the exception of allowing some of the base coat to be exposed in various areas, which is called “Cat Face.

In Florida everyone paints their Stucco. Does the new stucco materials doesn’t need to be”breath”?
My video is based on the 3-coat stucco system in California which needs to breathe and should not be painted. I cannot speak for the stucco systems used in Florida.
Thank you for the video? How often do you hydrate the brown coat? Do you spray it once a day for the first seven days? Thank you and keep on the good work!!.
Thank you for your kind words. The need to keep the brown coat hydrated for the 7-14 days would depend on the weather. Cool or cold overcast days may require very little need to hydrate; on the other hand, hot summer days may require saturating of the walls more frequently. A non hydrated brown coat will make for a weak wall and more prone to developing cracks.

Thank you for your response. Therefore, for Ventura County, CA, twice a day should be sufficient during the months of November and December. Thanks again!
I had a new window installed (6x4) and need stucco back around it. I got something called stucco base and put some on. I got an 8 lb box of El Rey colored that has sand and and stuff. So, do I just put that El Rey on top of that base coat and that's it?
Assuming that all the prep work (Lath, Scratch and Brown coats) were installed to industry standards, I would say yes to your question assuming you have experience installing the final El Rey colored material. If you don’t have the skill level in the application of the El Rey product and think it may end up looking like a patch job I would recommend having a professional stucco contractor, in your area, apply that final coat.
I think your tip on the mix ratio for cement-lime-sand stucco was 3-2-1. Do you vary this ratio for the different stages : scratch-brown-finish coats?
Devon, the ratios in color coat stucco come premixed in a 90lb bag, I do not manipulate those ratios. That also includes Portland cement plaster for scratch and brown.
So its still ok to fog coat the stucco if it was painted alreadt
No, once a three coat stucco system has been printed you cannot fog coat over the paint.
Does the 3rd coat (white coat) also need hydrating?
No, if you try and hydrate the color coat it could alter the color.

Hy Ed !Can you render a clc wall ?
Prenume Nume de familie, I’m not quite sure I understand what you mean by “Render a CLC wall”.

So if you were a lefty, would you still start at the same end of the wall? lol
This is the way a right handed plasterer goes. It is up to the individual which direction they choose.
Nothing wrong with the quality of the video here
Thank you!
7:45 Bro 1 is saying to wear protection, Bro 2 is not wearing any mask nor any sufficient eye protection.
Your going to need more than one float, man it's amazing how different we do it in texas,we are way more advanced than this,,come on first graders. Listen to your teacher ,what a joke
I've been a plaster for 46 years and I'm still posturing. We don't do it that way in California. We spread the color with a red float and then texture with the trough never spread the color code with the trout. I guess people do it differently california was the number one place where's the duckle started
Can you spray fog coat ? On the Stucco to cover the stain
