An interesting bit someone pointed to me about this episode is that all the family members died the same way they treated Shigaraki.
His dog died just being a loyal pet; His sister died trying to save herself, abandoning him; His mother died trying to comfort him; His grandparents died doing nothing but watching from the sidelines; and his dad died trying to solve the problem with violence.

I'm guessing "The Bad Man" is All for One, which adds a new level to the complicated relationship with Tenko/Tomara, AFO, and Nana.
I really enjoy this arc as it adds layers to the villains and points out the flaws of hero society. We see in so many superhero stories like Spider-Man and Batman that their secret identity is to protect their loved ones, but this shows the flips side and how dangerous things can be if the hero full abandons their family and focuses on being a hero full time. Had Nana focused more on her son and maybe stepped back from being a hero, so many lives may not have been lost with her not being in his life.

AFO was hunting and killing OFA successors though. Her husband's death was probably connected to this as well (he's certainly not above going after families). It's pretty unlikely she would've been able to just step back so long as she had that power.

"Learned helplessness" look that up. I know it, because that's how it was in my family. I wouldn't give the grandparents, mother, and sister so much accountability for this. Tenko brought this upon his entire household, but we also acknowledge that Nana Shimura had to make a choice between saving the world or her family, and in some cases, that's a not a choice for real-life heroes we have. Later on in the manga this concept will explored further.

Shigaraki's story is a tragedy, but is also a lesson to anyone who takes advantages of others because they can't resist them, who ignores the suffering of others because it doesn't affect them.
Not villains, but simply individuals who take from those around them because they can and watch it happen without remorse.
This is what can happen when you ignore the pain you cause and sweep it under the rug; Tenko suffered for his ENTIRE LIFE at the hands of his father's violence and his family's indifference. It built up slowly over time until that suffering overflowed and destroyed his family and his future.
Tenko became a monster, Tomura, but his father was a monster from the start. And I feel no sympathy for him, not much more for his family aside from his sister. Tenko was a beaten child, the adults were cowards. And they deserved everything they got.

In Kotaro's mind, heroes are people who prioritize strangers over their own families. Nana probably wasn't there for him all that much, and that made him grow to hate heroes. I think he wanted to hate her mother but couldn't do that because his mother loved him. I think he preferred it if his mother didn't love him because that way, he could hate her without feeling bad about it. It's much easier to hate someone who doesn't care about you than of someone who does. He then took out his hatred on his son Tenko, who didn't deserve it one bit. If Kotaro had realized his mistake sooner, and apologized to his son, maybe things could have been different.

AFO would've discovered them much, much sooner probably when Kotaro was even young and probably murdered him in front of All Might or have All Might give up to him or some sort of manipulation like that. Putting his son up for adoption was one of the better choices she had. It could've totally ended out perfectly. More often that not, it would've but Kotaro just couldn't get past feeling abandoned. Blaming Nana is quite absurd. Not everyone has the luxury of hindsight. The story could have easily gone the way of her telling a young All Might then which eventually leads to AFO still finding about the Kotaro.

13:33 Nope, its the reverse actually. The crumbling to dust effect is an anime censorship. Shigaraki's quirk is decay (not calcify), meaning he rots people he touches them. In the manga, when a person decays to his quirk, their body literally breaks apart and falls into chunks. The cracks that form on their bodies is their bodies rapidly rotting on the outside before the inside, and due to that, blood spurts out from the openings formed until its completely falls apart into a puddle of gore.
