One thing that bugged me a bit was that we never learned much about Laufey until the end. Would've loved a small flashback of her just to see what she looked like. Another thing that was weird to me was how "empty" the world felt sometimes. Enemies were everywhere but I was surprised that we never encountered a small settlement/village/town filled with friendly npcs.
I started like 2 weeks ago, pretty close to the ending, but I already know everything haha, but I really don't mind spoilers, they've actually never destroyed my experience in any form of entertainment (books, games, movies, series, etc).
After Atreus learned he was a god and started acting smug really got me down. Thankfully after that shit show he comes back 10x better and the ending battle YOOO

Revenants and Dark Elves! Aaaagh!!!! The worst ever!!! Absolutely hated the Dark Elf boss battle and then that kinda semi boss battle with another one later near the end holy craaaaap. Awful shit right there.
I hated at the end when it’s all over... he says “this looks like it could be something”... I spent an HOUR trying different things to try and figure out what he was talking about.
Played on Give me a challenge and honestly -- My huge problem with enemies in the game (primarily dark elves and revenants) is that there are 'tactics' the game gives you that only work 50/50 to fight them. Biggest example is revenants and stunning them. More times than I can count I'll hit a revenant w/ all 4 arrows only to have them teleport away from my attack while then spamming ranged attacks all while laughing at me. Additionally when you finally DO stun them and hit them you cant keep them in this attackable state? Even with spacing arrows shots to hit them? Bc they teleport away after like 3 hits???? And good fucking luck holding a melee combo even if you do get into one bc uuuuh revenant wooden stick bonk harder than your axe so fuck you. Honestly the challenges feel more like middle fingers to the player rather than a challenge (looking at you 'always sprinting traveler') and completing difficult fights more often than not just left me shaking with frustration rather than actually feeling accomplished. If I had to play it again I would play on the story mode simply because the fact that the 'reward' of beating a bunch of ranged blind attack spamming darkelves is not nearly worth the frustration that comes with, which in hand i feel takes me out of the story.
I loved the game but I would have preferred it to feel more progression and less 1 step forwards, 3 steps back then another detour after, it felt like you got somewhere only to have to go back for something too many times
I think it’s a great idea that Kratos called him boy the whole way trough so when he first time call him son it feels more impactful (sorry for bad English)
I don’t like that when Kratos is climbing, he can’t jump to get up faster!! That was a mechanic gloriously added in GOW 2 and has been there until this one!! Also why did they remove the ability to jump? Jumping and attacking would have made for some sick ass photos!! Also with the removal of the jumping, they removed the wings of Icarus!! But hey, the game is still freakin awesome for adding the Blades of Chaos!!!! I just wish they had the same range as in previous GOW games!!
I agree with almost all of these (especially the nightmares, they're weak but annoying af) but id say the most annoying is when you're in the middle of a runic and the enemy getting attacked can still stand up and attack you during while both of you take damage

In my first playthrough, i wasn't fond of how standard enemies had high levels in early parts of the game, and u couldn't complete certain quests until u figured out how to level up. A nuisance for someone who likes to finish every quest he starts when he starts them, then one of those purple health bars shows up.
I was annoyed with not being able to favourite or save enchantments. When going to Nifilheim I would have a bunch of enchantments to slow down the mist meter but I found myself scrolling through a shit ton of enchantments to find the ones specific to what I was doing.
Carter Cawthorne lol, I think he was referring to the fact that a lot of bosses, including the Valkyries and trolls, feel like fighting the same enemy with slight differences.
This is a spoiler so tread lightly: In god of war when Kratos calls Atraues boy it feels like they don’t have a strong connection but when they get to the end and releases Kratos’ wife’s ashes Kratos refers to Atraues as SON NOT BOY which shows their growth together and how Kratos has grown to truly love/respect his son
Maybe because that's an indicator atreus was a mommas boy like kratos was in his younger years. After they go through several battles I think kratos was testing his patience. It reminds me of how my dad would just call me" Chris"
Here's my list 1 - I can't stand the Revanents, Wulvers and Dark Elves 2 - I hate how you have to use a chain to jump off the smallest heights 3 - I hate how slowly Kratos walks when he's carrying a light crystal.
I definitely agree with the Atreus having an attitude point. It started to piss me off and become a little distracting a few times. At one point I actually wished for a moment that they had a volume setting specifically for him that I could just turn off so I could play in peace for a little bit lol.
Yeah, that is a small annoyance for me as well. Like I just wanna create the shortcut for this place, I don't actually wanna go down the chain yet Kratos!
The chain.......blows.... plus having to mash a button to collect orbs. I like when they just flowed to you like in the last games. The foot stomp isn’t too fluid.
For me the worst was the tediousness of travelling. The gateways are not always super-smart placed, and you have to go trough several loading (even hidden as "playable sequences") to be able to do some awful backtracking to get some items.
Yeah and wolfs especially when there’s multiple at nilpheim, like hell, they attack four times every attack succession, and when I dodge I either get stuck, or get attacked by another AHHHHHHHHHH
I only hated Boi in one sequence in the game, and that was the one where he becomes too full of himself. But, that was the point, you were supposed to hate him, and Boi was later supposed to hate himself for how he acted there.

I think a small gripe I had which I worry night lead to some problems in later installments is how empty the world is and packed together. Think about it. Everything is close together in this game. So in the sequel its gonna be really hard to travel between realms and discover new and unique places because the travelling room is the only place to travel from. Its like every bit of Norse Mythology is happening right outside their horse and I worry that was a mistake on their part. Then a big gripe is kicking down a golden chain and then Kratos HAS TO SLIDE DOWN IT!

People who never played the original games don't count towards "God of war Players". They never saw Kratos at his best. That's what I hate about the new player base. Most of 'em never played the OG games but they feel like they are entitled to say God of war' "changed so much for the better" God Of War 1 (PS2) is still the best game in the entire series.
0:52 this is kinda unfair bc it’s bosses are usually implemented to fit the games story flow. It brings variety with its diverse combat scenarios. Which kinda balances it in a way. My only criticism of the bosses is that the brutalities of the bosses are so held back There’s also pseudo bosses in the game that are just large groups of enemies formulated like a boss but without a health bar
I can say that i hated the BOy when he turned anoying and angry with the "We are gods we can do anything" , but i hated even more the blinding efects like this of ther Dark Elves and just in general stuns
I actually don't mind the "boy" thing. My dad never called me by my name growing up, not cutesy nicknames either. Now that's not to say that he went around just calling me "girl" but I guess I see it in a different light just because it's a picture of a relationship with a parent you're not close to. I think the fact that he and Atreus get to know each other throughout the game is a bit endearing and we see their interactions change and more instances where his name pop up to the eventual "son" are just a part of their journey together. I also feel like Atreus's name might be part of that. When Kratos is telling him the story behind his "Greek name" at the end of the game he sounds a bit emotional. The goodness and honor of the soldier he fought alongside stuck with him and he even admitted that thoughts of the type of person he was got him through tough times. Let's face it, the man named his son after him. It's obvious that he touched Kratos's life and could possibly be a touchy subject. The only thing I really don't like is that I feel like this game set it up so that Atreus will possibly take over in the future. Now that may not be the case but that's just how it felt to me. I realize that a lot of people, especially newer fans, grew very attached to him as a character but I can't say that I did. That's not to say that I don't like him or understand his place in the game but I did not get attached to him. I just don't want to see subsequent titles throw Kratos away in favor of Boy taking over and unfortunately the wall painting at the end and the sense of foreshadowing that I got from the Freya/Baldur dynamic led me to believe that's where we're headed.
Especially their leader. They keep popping up everywhere and they are always a pain in the ass to beat. I also despise their cheap energy ball attacks.
The mistake I made was trying to free the dragon Fafnir early on. That was my first traveler i fought, and that took AGES. Every traveler after that was ez af.
Went down pretty quickly for me, but I had been doing the real tears thing before reaching that area. I find more difficulty in beating the eleven warrior boss. His attacks are too much to handle if you're not paying attention. And the Spartan rage doesn't help because it is weak.
One thing I absolutely hated was killing Bauldr.... hear me out... his story is actually pretty tragic and messed up and it kinda felt like the lesson was “gods aren’t redeemable”... but if that’s so why let Freya live? It was her that cast that spell on Bauldr in the first place this being the catalyst for the events of the game... I just wish that Bauldr could have lived on for at LEAST another game.

Mohan Grewal 7 year olds that are smart and tech savvy have access to much worse things on the internet in general and acting like an umbrella over children creates major anxiety issues so trusting your child to know what’s absolutely inappropriate is a healthier way to grow up and decision making. If something looks to dramatic she knows to not watch it. God of War is masterpiece in gaming and I allow her to witness and experience maybe the best game in history. GTA is off limits
I absolutely loved the relationship between Kratos and Atreus. The developers made it obvious that Kratos and Atreus were never close before Faye died, and Kratos was not ready to be a single dad when she died suddenly. And their relationship is even more strained in the beginning because Kratos has so many secrets.
but.. boy fits kratos so well. he would definitely say boy. pissible spoiler ahead?: and you notice that atreus needs to earn his name, and kratos needs to soften and warm up a bit before he calls atreus by his actual name. but when he does call atreus by his name or when he finally calls him son... damn it's so heartfelt😭 and that's all the more because kratos has been calling him boy all the time refusing to call him anything else whether appropriate or not.

Ty Rymer child was a previous personal favorite of Kratos on Pandora. Calliope was called by her name because Kratos hadn't valued her daughter until he lost her.
God of War (2018) lacked in many boss fights and sometimes, the same bosses appear but with different skins which is disappointing yet also kinda hilarious tbh.
I DESPISE the ace puzzles and the the majority of the plus armor sets. Was also annoyed by not being allowed to switch runic attacks as the current is on cool down.
When Atreus keeps saying "We've been standing here for awhile" when you're taking 'too long' making sure you didn't miss anything in an area. I'm like shut up BOY I'll take as long as I damn well need

When you've got many enemies and it takes so long for Kratos to reel back from an attack so I can block or anything. And I just die through that when many enemies attack at once
Ya you really see the difference in the 100 enemies challenge in the fire realm, if they have a full bar of health but you get an r3 tag they’ll do a fuller finisher move, if they’re down halfway or a 1/4 they do a quicker more violent finisher.
as a long time fan of the series i too miss that. what ticks me off even more however is having to pick up shit. in the older games the oprbs would just float towards you and add to whichever guage they reprresent, it was much less tedious then having to walk back through an area i just cleared of enemies to pick up all the shit they droped. what annoys me even more is having to pick up health, again in the older games your health was refilled the moment you earned extra health somehow, be it beating a boss past a certain stage, opening a chest with health orbs or killing certain enemies. in dad of boi you have to stop what you're doing to go pick up the health stones when you run out of health and i swear to got that the damn valkyries know this and intentionally start camping near health stones they've droped so you can't get them. would bother me much less if krratos could actually pick up and carry health stones for later use, instead of having to somehow keep track where your current enemy has droped some so you don't have to start looking for them, whille geting your ass kicked.
Just recently started playing for the first time and OMFG some games do this but those red chests or certain areas you can’t access yet until you get what you need later down the line to open it but forget all those areas that had them so technically either looking at guides or starting the game from the beginning 🤦🏼♀️😩
Really like all of it. As for the bosses the game really does a good job at making every encounter feel like a boss fight. And making it feel special imo

I was surprised that I didn't encounter any story spoilers even after a year since it was released. Went into the story fully new and only having some/minimal lore knowledge from previous games. Highly recommend being ignorant to the plot if possible, makes every moment jaw dropping
Anyone playing the game, nearly all nightmares can be killed by atreus shooting 3 arrows at them so spamming square 3 times at while facing them kills them immediately I rarely ever use my Axe on them
Especially with the lightning arrows because it stuns nearby nightmares. I usually max at Atreus' skills first because his arrows actually make the game super easy at points.
I think the thing I hate gameplay wise is that in order to get some [emphasis on SOME] of the high level stuff, you have to beat a few Valkyries. For specific armor that's whatever, but upgrades to the existing things you have? I feel like it takes away from beating them to an extent because I can't be as strong as I could.
Hating arteas? He was never a problem.... until he find out of his god heritage from kratos... then he get cocky and douche like. Also most like he feels invincible knowing how powerful the gods are... so.... WTH is the dude talking about?
@bigevilworldwide1 To be fair, the 3 boss fights in the first game are pretty varied and change up how the game is played more than the Trolls or the Valkyries. Also, the game is shorter and they never recycle boss designs, so you never really get tired of them. The lack of bosses is one of the few gripes I do have with the game.
I like that because I enjoy stories. I sometimes even stop just to listen to Mimir. I like the experience of learning some Norse myth while playing the game at the same time.
Honestly I just spam Boy button for most of the enemies. Good electric attack with a lot of damage and it stuns multi enemies. I also like his Tailsman thingy “Murder of Crows” it stuns a lot of enemies for a long time

God of War Chains of Olympus has 4 bosses. God of War Ascension has 5 bosses. God of War Ghost of Sparta has 6 bosses. God of War 1 has 4 bosses. God of War 2 has 15 bosses. God of War 3 has 9 bosses (including the button mashing Hephastus boss battle) Adding them all together, the one with the most bosses is God of War 2, with God of War 4 coming in second. Honestly, I still don't see what the problem here is. I think people are just greedy or petty.
@@TheWriteFiction it's not about the quantity, but the variation. Most of God of War's bosses are trolls with basically the same attacks. The only interesting boss fights were Baldur, Magni and Modi and the Dragon. Remember, quality over quantity.

He is by far the worst support character in any game I played, nothing I like more than some little shit screaming at me and providing close to zero support in a battle.
Seriously? People took issue with "Boy"? It's clearly a way of the writer's showing the estranged relationship between the two, not to mention Kratos' reluctance to see Atreus suffer the same fate as Calliope. Notice how as you progress through the story he DOES eventually use Atreus' name instead "Boy" more frequently to further signify their relationship growing stronger. But you clever folks at gameranx already knew this :P

For those who really wanna play on give me god of war difficulty, i really recommend doing the game first on a lower difficulty, pack up the best things in the game, and then in a new game plus play with give me god of war. Its gonna be easier with good gear, blades of chaos and maxed health from the start.

Both these enemies are easy if you time Boy's arrows correctly. The dark elf commander is always a pain in the ass though.

Honestly the challenges feel more like middle fingers to the player rather than a challenge (looking at you 'always sprinting traveler') and completing difficult fights more often than not just left me shaking with frustration rather than actually feeling accomplished. If I had to play it again I would play on the story mode simply because the fact that the 'reward' of beating a bunch of ranged blind attack spamming darkelves is not nearly worth the frustration that comes with, which in hand i feel takes me out of the story.

I don’t like that when Kratos is climbing, he can’t jump to get up faster!! That was a mechanic gloriously added in GOW 2 and has been there until this one!! Also why did they remove the ability to jump? Jumping and attacking would have made for some sick ass photos!! Also with the removal of the jumping, they removed the wings of Icarus!! But hey, the game is still freakin awesome for adding the Blades of Chaos!!!! I just wish they had the same range as in previous GOW games!!

I agree with almost all of these (especially the nightmares, they're weak but annoying af) but id say the most annoying is when you're in the middle of a runic and the enemy getting attacked can still stand up and attack you during while both of you take damage
For me the only "real issues" are :

In my first playthrough, i wasn't fond of how standard enemies had high levels in early parts of the game, and u couldn't complete certain quests until u figured out how to level up. A nuisance for someone who likes to finish every quest he starts when he starts them, then one of those purple health bars shows up.

I was annoyed with not being able to favourite or save enchantments. When going to Nifilheim I would have a bunch of enchantments to slow down the mist meter but I found myself scrolling through a shit ton of enchantments to find the ones specific to what I was doing.

I definitely agree with the Atreus having an attitude point. It started to piss me off and become a little distracting a few times. At one point I actually wished for a moment that they had a volume setting specifically for him that I could just turn off so I could play in peace for a little bit lol.
My biggest complaint is kicking the chain down then automatically going down it lol. Other than that its perfect

For me the worst was the tediousness of travelling. The gateways are not always super-smart placed, and you have to go trough several loading (even hidden as "playable sequences") to be able to do some awful backtracking to get some items.

I think a small gripe I had which I worry night lead to some problems in later installments is how empty the world is and packed together. Think about it. Everything is close together in this game. So in the sequel its gonna be really hard to travel between realms and discover new and unique places because the travelling room is the only place to travel from. Its like every bit of Norse Mythology is happening right outside their horse and I worry that was a mistake on their part.
Then a big gripe is kicking down a golden chain and then Kratos HAS TO SLIDE DOWN IT!

0:52 this is kinda unfair bc it’s bosses are usually implemented to fit the games story flow. It brings variety with its diverse combat scenarios. Which kinda balances it in a way. My only criticism of the bosses is that the brutalities of the bosses are so held back

I can say that i hated the BOy when he turned anoying and angry with the "We are gods we can do anything" , but i hated even more the blinding efects like this of ther Dark Elves and just in general stuns
I actually don't mind the "boy" thing. My dad never called me by my name growing up, not cutesy nicknames either. Now that's not to say that he went around just calling me "girl" but I guess I see it in a different light just because it's a picture of a relationship with a parent you're not close to. I think the fact that he and Atreus get to know each other throughout the game is a bit endearing and we see their interactions change and more instances where his name pop up to the eventual "son" are just a part of their journey together.
I also feel like Atreus's name might be part of that. When Kratos is telling him the story behind his "Greek name" at the end of the game he sounds a bit emotional. The goodness and honor of the soldier he fought alongside stuck with him and he even admitted that thoughts of the type of person he was got him through tough times. Let's face it, the man named his son after him. It's obvious that he touched Kratos's life and could possibly be a touchy subject.
The only thing I really don't like is that I feel like this game set it up so that Atreus will possibly take over in the future. Now that may not be the case but that's just how it felt to me. I realize that a lot of people, especially newer fans, grew very attached to him as a character but I can't say that I did. That's not to say that I don't like him or understand his place in the game but I did not get attached to him.
I just don't want to see subsequent titles throw Kratos away in favor of Boy taking over and unfortunately the wall painting at the end and the sense of foreshadowing that I got from the Freya/Baldur dynamic led me to believe that's where we're headed.

The mistake I made was trying to free the dragon Fafnir early on. That was my first traveler i fought, and that took AGES. Every traveler after that was ez af.
Went down pretty quickly for me, but I had been doing the real tears thing before reaching that area. I find more difficulty in beating the eleven warrior boss. His attacks are too much to handle if you're not paying attention. And the Spartan rage doesn't help because it is weak.

One thing I absolutely hated was killing Bauldr.... hear me out... his story is actually pretty tragic and messed up and it kinda felt like the lesson was “gods aren’t redeemable”... but if that’s so why let Freya live? It was her that cast that spell on Bauldr in the first place this being the catalyst for the events of the game... I just wish that Bauldr could have lived on for at LEAST another game.

I hated the fact that Kratos didn't tell boy he was the god of war not only a god. Also imagine telling Atreus he is the Ghost of Sparta and why.
I absolutely loved the relationship between Kratos and Atreus. The developers made it obvious that Kratos and Atreus were never close before Faye died, and Kratos was not ready to be a single dad when she died suddenly. And their relationship is even more strained in the beginning because Kratos has so many secrets.

Ya you really see the difference in the 100 enemies challenge in the fire realm, if they have a full bar of health but you get an r3 tag they’ll do a fuller finisher move, if they’re down halfway or a 1/4 they do a quicker more violent finisher.
as a long time fan of the series i too miss that.
what ticks me off even more however is having to pick up shit.
in the older games the oprbs would just float towards you and add to whichever guage they reprresent, it was much less tedious then having to walk back through an area i just cleared of enemies to pick up all the shit they droped.
what annoys me even more is having to pick up health, again in the older games your health was refilled the moment you earned extra health somehow, be it beating a boss past a certain stage, opening a chest with health orbs or killing certain enemies. in dad of boi you have to stop what you're doing to go pick up the health stones when you run out of health and i swear to got that the damn valkyries know this and intentionally start camping near health stones they've droped so you can't get them.
would bother me much less if krratos could actually pick up and carry health stones for later use, instead of having to somehow keep track where your current enemy has droped some so you don't have to start looking for them, whille geting your ass kicked.
Just recently started playing for the first time and OMFG some games do this but those red chests or certain areas you can’t access yet until you get what you need later down the line to open it but forget all those areas that had them so technically either looking at guides or starting the game from the beginning 🤦🏼♀️😩

I was surprised that I didn't encounter any story spoilers even after a year since it was released. Went into the story fully new and only having some/minimal lore knowledge from previous games.
Highly recommend being ignorant to the plot if possible, makes every moment jaw dropping
Anyone playing the game, nearly all nightmares can be killed by atreus shooting 3 arrows at them
so spamming square 3 times at while facing them kills them immediately I rarely ever use my Axe on them

It's also easy with the blades of chaos, they seem to auto aim at them and you can pull them in and destroy.
Especially with the lightning arrows because it stuns nearby nightmares. I usually max at Atreus' skills first because his arrows actually make the game super easy at points.
Tbh I don’t see how they’re even hard to hit, the axe actually seeks the enemy’s out so just aim in there general direction?

@bigevilworldwide1 To be fair, the 3 boss fights in the first game are pretty varied and change up how the game is played more than the Trolls or the Valkyries. Also, the game is shorter and they never recycle boss designs, so you never really get tired of them.

Honestly I just spam Boy button for most of the enemies. Good electric attack with a lot of damage and it stuns multi enemies. I also like his Tailsman thingy “Murder of Crows” it stuns a lot of enemies for a long time

it is a good challenge but they all look the same and mostly have similar attacks so thats the major downside of it

According to the guide, NOT counting reskins, God of War 4 has a total of 14 bosses/boss encounters.
God of War Chains of Olympus has 4 bosses.
God of War Ascension has 5 bosses.
God of War Ghost of Sparta has 6 bosses.
God of War 1 has 4 bosses.
God of War 2 has 15 bosses.
God of War 3 has 9 bosses (including the button mashing Hephastus boss battle)
Adding them all together, the one with the most bosses is God of War 2, with God of War 4 coming in second. Honestly, I still don't see what the problem here is. I think people are just greedy or petty.
@@TheWriteFiction it's not about the quantity, but the variation. Most of God of War's bosses are trolls with basically the same attacks. The only interesting boss fights were Baldur, Magni and Modi and the Dragon. Remember, quality over quantity.
I hated the Dark Elves alot because of their blinding projectiles.
As a Fan of The God of war Series for year's Why not just put Both @TCCarson 👈 and @iamchrisjudge as kratos in the NEXT Game so we the Fan's can pick in the Game which voice we want to play as kratos this way Old and New

I played this game for about a week. I loved it at first but too many odd puzzles and you can't back track if you missed a chest.
I personally like Atreus as a character, he's very well thought out and plays a fantastic role in the relationship with Kratos
i find him annoying just a bit when searching for loot and this smartass says "you know thats the wrong way"
He is by far the worst support character in any game I played, nothing I like more than some little shit screaming at me and providing close to zero support in a battle.
I was talking about the role he plays in the story, not the game mechanics

Seriously? People took issue with "Boy"? It's clearly a way of the writer's showing the estranged relationship between the two, not to mention Kratos' reluctance to see Atreus suffer the same fate as Calliope. Notice how as you progress through the story he DOES eventually use Atreus' name instead "Boy" more frequently to further signify their relationship growing stronger. But you clever folks at gameranx already knew this :P

Nah it was terrible and annoying plus there is never any true pay off where you see Kratos's call him son it's always just boi or Atreus but only in a sharp tone to signify he is pissed with him. I felt like Kratos didn't like having a kid this entire game lol shoulda wore a rubber.
I did note that as well. That end was pretty good toward a final summary of how they have grown as a father-son relationship
I love Kratos saying Boy through all the game and also the fact that the peak of the mountain wasn’t the end.
I hate the revenants, because boy is given 3 arrows and times it doesn't always fill up all the way after using them all

I hate the tazulworms too. You're just like "Get out of the damn ground!" They're worse in new game+ too, where they can do an explosion thing that damages u when u try to hit them.
For those who really wanna play on give me god of war difficulty, i really recommend doing the game first on a lower difficulty, pack up the best things in the game, and then in a new game plus play with give me god of war. Its gonna be easier with good gear, blades of chaos and maxed health from the start.
