Wow they are battling it out with the scorpion boss, and they also happen to go back to the academy right after episode 8. In episode 9 we see them goofing around at the academy. For the Nerd Council it was entertaining, to say the least, in volume 1 chapter 8 and 9.

Jaune is in a strategy role. If you noticed, in this fight he (and Ruby) were the ones making plans and giving orders to the others :)

Given the fact that he's never creepy again, my theory is that Port wasn't actually hitting on students, he was trying to make a joke. It just fell flat and nobody laughed.
Given that he was voiced by Ryan Haywood though, it takes a bit of a different context...
I mean, there's a reason he's no longer with Rooster Teeth...

ETA: Ruby was made the leader because she assumed the leadership role by making the plan everyone else chose to follow.
Jaune was also directing the others on his team. They both assumed the leadership roll and the others followed their commands.

The next two episodes, The Badge and The Burden, are my favorite in terms of story building because it actually advances a character arc that's almost never advanced. My favorite episode in terms of literally anything else would be the first episode of volume two, Best Day Ever.

This episode is what got me Into RWBY the show leads up to some great stuff
well wile you didn't seem to notice john said the names of the characters before there actions in killing the scorpion so john was coordinating his team in battle a notable ability for a leader

No intention of being rude ever but it's Jaune. And he IS baised on Joan of Arc. In fact all the characters are baised off famous tales or stories but it's more fun to figure them out yourself so I won't list them.

For the rest of Volume 1, I would recommend watching the episodes that are titled with "Part 1" and "Part 2" in the same reaction video. You only watched Part 1 of "The Badge and the Burden" in this video, so I'd recommend maybe watching episodes 10, 11, _and_ 12 in next week's video.
