Personally my favorite line is Cinder saying “and I refuse to starve.” I feel like it shows a lot more depth in her currently one dimensional character. It could possibly be why she chases power so violently. Perhaps because she knows what it’s like to have none if it.

Even if winter had claimed the maiden powers and they boosted the staff and lifted atlas waaay up. It wouldnt have had enough time to get out of reach pf the grimm before salem arrived anyway. And then theyd have a untrained rookie maiden being the sole figure to prevent atlas from falling out the sky. At that kind of altitude with enough force to kill everyone and send tidal waves across the ocean and destroy argus and any other northern coast towns The good news is ironwood cannot lift atlas now so if it falls itll just kill almost everyone in atlas and mantle.. i think they might have to evacuate the entire kingdom even if they repel the attack. And ironwoods increasing oppressive dictator ways will cause a full blown rebellion amidst his troops and soldiers. Not just rioting. They have no means of containing salem. Is interesting how Oz crew goes backwards in comparison to the Wizard of Oz. But, since Ruby is also Dorothy, Team RWBY might the versión who do it right. Once again Neo's the villain MVP. She's just more consistent than the other villains. She's not just strong, she knows when she's outmatched and isn't too proud to back off. The other villains fail because they're convinced they can't loose.
I agree, Neo is easily the series' best and most consistent villain, and she doesn't even speak. The facial expressions, the body language, the specific style of combat she uses. Beautifully executed by the animation team. She knows not only how to fight, but to win, survive, and how to complete objectives without going overboard or extra with other personal vendettas like Hazel, Adam, Cinder, Watts, and others did and resulted in failure.
@@dragonstouch1042 or that at one point Neo does the old, give her what she did to others and stab her right in the back through the chest and take the maiden power for herself. Neo then shows that she's actually smart and worked with roman because it was fun and she loved him, not because she believed in the cause and not join the "good guys" but a simple truce of understanding.

Ozpin is many things and can be represented in many different ways, though the main influence will always be Oz. Odin is just what he represents through affiliation in accordance to Qrow and Ozpin.

@@jittercritter I would love some Cinder backstory, especially since she was shown during the part of Ozpin's speech where he asks if you'll understand why someone did what they did. Also, it seems crystal clear now that Ruby's silver eyes really don't affect Maidens, since Penny was enveloped in the light and didn't get hurt, so Cinder definitely had something Grimm going on before the arm.
I think its how she can get the maiden powers it seems cause when she attacked amber she might have gotten half of her maiden power then later gets full maiden power (I dunno) she seem to have this ability to take maiden powers which might be part Grimm unless then it later can be used via her new Grimm arm
BitterCritter I personally feel that cinder might have been either an orphan that was mutated by Salem at a young age or Salem’s daughter, which would explain why she is so attuned to her Grimm part, especially when she starts talking about the hunger she feels because that night be relating to her Grimm origins and how the Grimm feed on fear and suffering
Something I loved is that there was no music when Salem arrived. Just the growling of the Grimm and the thunder. We feel the true terror of her presence.

About Cinder's comment about Atlas hording power. This reminds me of last volume, when Adam said Blake was selfish and a coward. It seems the villains often project their misgivings, flaws, and fears on their enemy. Cinder is so "hungry" because of what she believes Atlas is guilty of that she cannot see that she has become that power hording herself. This is also something that can be said for Ironwood. He was so afraid to become Lionheart because of fear...that he has become the same thing.

Even thought the Qrow-Clover-Tyrian parenthesis of the previous episode was quite messed up, I'm still glad I found out this show. After MLP ended and after I quitted Miraculous realizing it was a gigantic waste of time, I needed something to watch. Between this and The Dragon Prince (as well as The Owl House but that's a different kind of show) I think I'm good. I loved this finale and I will be happy to see where this is going.

I was rewatching the whole volume and I realized something: In Sparks, Penny could see Joanna and May even though they were invisible, so can Penny see through illusions? could she counter Neo?
TLDR: "...well, shit." -So, it's a first for the series to end on a cliffhanger of this level, huh? It's to the point that I'm almost hesitant to say anything definitive sounding regarding the themes and ideas that this volume throws around. For now, what I feel I can say about the biggest one, that about what it means to do the right thing, is that it comes down to not the actions themselves, but the intent behind them. Once Ironwood goes full totalitarian, and everyone working directly under him (except Penny) falls in line with his inhumane commands, the series drops all pretense about whether his actions are morally dubious or if he has valid points. By contrast, Ruby and friends want to live up to the ideal of being a Huntress/Huntsman, and protect the people to the bitter end, which is seen as not just the most "moral" decision, but also the most difficult (especially when it means going up against Salem and her army even after an entire night of fighting). -The other thing I can say for sure about what this volume thinks about "doing the right thing" comes from Ozpin's monologue on fear. Usually, you know what you're doing is the right thing when doing it is either the most difficult choice or the one that makes you the most fearful. It reminds me of Ruby's monologue in V5, where she tells Oscar that she fights because she's scared of what people like Salem can do to the world. -My favorite thing about Penny becoming the new Winter Maiden is that it's here that we learn the ultimate purpose of bringing her back. Sure, having Penny around is always a good thing, but I like that this feels like a culmination to the mini-arc she was given this volume, where she comes out as the most "human" of Ironwood's soldiers (The Maiden powers sure don't care that she's not of flesh and blood). Someone who believes in the same "follow your heart" ideals of Team RWBY. -By contrast, it's tragic how Winter remains loyal to Ironwood in spite of putting her at odds with Weiss. She seems to subscribe to the same ideals as Clover, where she doesn't "like" her orders, but carries them out anyway to their full extent, which puts her on the show's "Older Mentors That The Younger Generation Must Prove They're Better Than" list. I feel like the main reason she lets Weiss and friends go is because she was physically unable to stop them. I get the feeling that at some point the two sisters will fight and it's here that Weiss will finally overcome Winter (in a manner that will hopefully redeem Winter). -Robyn is on average my favorite new character this volume, but that little moment of sympathy for Qrow put her over-the-top for me. We've seen her as a politician/public figure and as a hard-boiled vigilante leader, but I feel we needed a moment of emotion like that to really sell that she's a champion of the people. -Nice that we get some hints of backstory in Cinder's little monologue, but I think it's ironic how she goes on about how Atlas elites accumulate all the power when accumulating all the power is exactly what she wants to do for herself. I love to hate this woman, and Jessica Nigri's ultra scenery-chewing performance is always a riot. -Speaking of villains I love to hate, my literal reaction to that one dirty trick Neo pulled on Ren was: "HOW FUCKING DARE YOU?!" -On that note, I'm glad this volume didn't attempt to give any closure to Ren and Nora's issues. It's clear that Ren is an emotional mess right now, and while I find it reassuring that he definitively loves Nora (to the point where the thought of hurting her brings him to tears), the events of this episode feel like the sort of thing that could make him do that emo thing where you push away your loved ones because you begin to see them as a liability (he likely blames himself and his hesitation for losing the relic). I wish the show would find a better thing to do with Ren and Nora than just give them relationship trouble, but so far, while I wish the volume committed to it a little better, it's not without its moments. -As a big fan of both Nuts n Dolts and White Rose, you get five guesses as to what my favorite shot of the episode was.
I love watching these reactions. It gives me the sense that I'm watching this with someone else and when I do that I get even more emotional than if I were watching this alone.

Once again Neo's the villain MVP. She's just more consistent than the other villains. She's not just strong, she knows when she's outmatched and isn't too proud to back off. The other villains fail because they're convinced they can't loose.
I agree, Neo is easily the series' best and most consistent villain, and she doesn't even speak. The facial expressions, the body language, the specific style of combat she uses. Beautifully executed by the animation team. She knows not only how to fight, but to win, survive, and how to complete objectives without going overboard or extra with other personal vendettas like Hazel, Adam, Cinder, Watts, and others did and resulted in failure.

@@cherrykamino Like Ironwood's crew, Ren wanted to do what was right and meet expectations. They were tasked with protecting the lamp, but when Neo turned into Nora he couldn't bear to hit her. I believe it's both of moral trauma from not protecting the lamp when he had a chance as well as emotional trauma in that he still loves Nora even though they're fighting.

@@jittercritter I would love some Cinder backstory, especially since she was shown during the part of Ozpin's speech where he asks if you'll understand why someone did what they did. Also, it seems crystal clear now that Ruby's silver eyes really don't affect Maidens, since Penny was enveloped in the light and didn't get hurt, so Cinder definitely had something Grimm going on before the arm.
I think its how she can get the maiden powers it seems cause when she attacked amber she might have gotten half of her maiden power then later gets full maiden power (I dunno) she seem to have this ability to take maiden powers which might be part Grimm unless then it later can be used via her new Grimm arm

About Cinder's comment about Atlas hording power. This reminds me of last volume, when Adam said Blake was selfish and a coward. It seems the villains often project their misgivings, flaws, and fears on their enemy. Cinder is so "hungry" because of what she believes Atlas is guilty of that she cannot see that she has become that power hording herself.
This is also something that can be said for Ironwood. He was so afraid to become Lionheart because of fear...that he has become the same thing.

Even thought the Qrow-Clover-Tyrian parenthesis of the previous episode was quite messed up, I'm still glad I found out this show. After MLP ended and after I quitted Miraculous realizing it was a gigantic waste of time, I needed something to watch. Between this and The Dragon Prince (as well as The Owl House but that's a different kind of show) I think I'm good. I loved this finale and I will be happy to see where this is going.

Looking for Cinder while being on the run from every huntsman and their mother, father, uncle and dog, and with little to no resources.
She's always been super OP since her debut. No one has ever landed a hit on her until this season.

Raven, yeah, she did get a hit in, but only because she came out of nowhere and so unexpectedly. Plus, the hit didn't land on Neo, I think it struck her weapon instead
And cinder, as far as I can remember, Cinder wasn't able to land a proper hit on Neo because she wasn't trying to fight her. Until she got pissed and activated her Maiden powers
I was rewatching the whole volume and I realized something: In Sparks, Penny could see Joanna and May even though they were invisible, so can Penny see through illusions? could she counter Neo?

It's kinda bittersweet seeing Penny succeed where Pyrrha failed (in becoming a maiden).
Where one green-eyed redhead failed and died, the green-eyed redhead she killed lived and succeeded.

In the first appearance of Neo as Nora when she skipped away (to get the parasol I suppose) I was like "That's Neo. Nora is never that peppy/sassy"..
TLDR: "...well, shit."
-So, it's a first for the series to end on a cliffhanger of this level, huh? It's to the point that I'm almost hesitant to say anything definitive sounding regarding the themes and ideas that this volume throws around. For now, what I feel I can say about the biggest one, that about what it means to do the right thing, is that it comes down to not the actions themselves, but the intent behind them. Once Ironwood goes full totalitarian, and everyone working directly under him (except Penny) falls in line with his inhumane commands, the series drops all pretense about whether his actions are morally dubious or if he has valid points. By contrast, Ruby and friends want to live up to the ideal of being a Huntress/Huntsman, and protect the people to the bitter end, which is seen as not just the most "moral" decision, but also the most difficult (especially when it means going up against Salem and her army even after an entire night of fighting).
-The other thing I can say for sure about what this volume thinks about "doing the right thing" comes from Ozpin's monologue on fear. Usually, you know what you're doing is the right thing when doing it is either the most difficult choice or the one that makes you the most fearful. It reminds me of Ruby's monologue in V5, where she tells Oscar that she fights because she's scared of what people like Salem can do to the world.
-My favorite thing about Penny becoming the new Winter Maiden is that it's here that we learn the ultimate purpose of bringing her back. Sure, having Penny around is always a good thing, but I like that this feels like a culmination to the mini-arc she was given this volume, where she comes out as the most "human" of Ironwood's soldiers (The Maiden powers sure don't care that she's not of flesh and blood). Someone who believes in the same "follow your heart" ideals of Team RWBY.
-By contrast, it's tragic how Winter remains loyal to Ironwood in spite of putting her at odds with Weiss. She seems to subscribe to the same ideals as Clover, where she doesn't "like" her orders, but carries them out anyway to their full extent, which puts her on the show's "Older Mentors That The Younger Generation Must Prove They're Better Than" list. I feel like the main reason she lets Weiss and friends go is because she was physically unable to stop them. I get the feeling that at some point the two sisters will fight and it's here that Weiss will finally overcome Winter (in a manner that will hopefully redeem Winter).
-Robyn is on average my favorite new character this volume, but that little moment of sympathy for Qrow put her over-the-top for me. We've seen her as a politician/public figure and as a hard-boiled vigilante leader, but I feel we needed a moment of emotion like that to really sell that she's a champion of the people.
-Nice that we get some hints of backstory in Cinder's little monologue, but I think it's ironic how she goes on about how Atlas elites accumulate all the power when accumulating all the power is exactly what she wants to do for herself. I love to hate this woman, and Jessica Nigri's ultra scenery-chewing performance is always a riot.
-Speaking of villains I love to hate, my literal reaction to that one dirty trick Neo pulled on Ren was: "HOW FUCKING DARE YOU?!"
-On that note, I'm glad this volume didn't attempt to give any closure to Ren and Nora's issues. It's clear that Ren is an emotional mess right now, and while I find it reassuring that he definitively loves Nora (to the point where the thought of hurting her brings him to tears), the events of this episode feel like the sort of thing that could make him do that emo thing where you push away your loved ones because you begin to see them as a liability (he likely blames himself and his hesitation for losing the relic). I wish the show would find a better thing to do with Ren and Nora than just give them relationship trouble, but so far, while I wish the volume committed to it a little better, it's not without its moments.
-As a big fan of both Nuts n Dolts and White Rose, you get five guesses as to what my favorite shot of the episode was.

After seeing the finale, I have to say I'm just as speechless as you are Arnold. Really looking forward to Volume 8 as well and will be with you for the ride through the RWBY Journey.

Another volume goes by and I can't be more thankful to you. Seriously, i'm so happy to be part of all of this. You must to be proud, because of you we all are here. It means a lot to me that you made of all this and be sure that I (and I expect talking for a lot of people here too) will be here year to year. Thank you so much for everything Arnold.
