Nerd Council continues the series of RWBY with the release of a reaction to the Trailers! The entire set of trailers are here to view, and the time stamps are above for each section. The Trailers were beautifully animated showcasing the colors theme throughout each short, emphasizing their powers, attitude and persona.
Synopsis:
In the trailers, we see each characters introduction also indicated by there color. Ruby is Red, Weiss is White, Blake is Black, Yellow is Yang. They each display a short story about our heroes past before the show chapter 1 begins.

Ugh, can't believe I forgot. The Malachite twins (the two in Yang' s trailer) outfits were actually early concepts for Ruby and Weiss's.
I knew about the costumes being early concepts, but them being twins?
That's new to me.

It isn't a spoiler to know why Blake left Adam. He was going to kill the crew members on the train and she wanted no part of being a murderer or being with a murderer
Wait but wasn't Adam killing innocent people before the trailers? I'm just wording why it took her so long to leave him. I mean, I get that she's supposed to be a coward but still. I guess I'm looking to into this:(
@@cakeday4058 Later on, she mentions that he kept making excuses about accidents or self-defense. And over time it got more blatant, until no one could deny the truth.
James DAlessandro it wasn’t just that train incident. Ever since Adam first came into power and Blake worked with him, he always uses the method of including fear and violence to assert dominance over others. Before the train raid in Blake’s trailer, she has already been considering leaving Adam.
Also, it's got nothing to do with her being a "coward" and everything to do with him being manipulative and abusive.
He didn't jump from perfectly reasonable to murderer of innocents in one day. It was a gradual climb that took her some time to recognize and then do something about.
Since nobody mentioned it. All the trailers are Canon and occur I think they said within something like a month before the first episode. (With Weiss probably being slightly different because of the fight flashback.)

Yang is looking for Blake in her trailer so we can only guess that trailer takes place during the whole Blake running away thing in season 1.
@@WingedSupernova Reasonable assumption but I fear it is wrong. RT said all the trailers occurred before season 1 and released official Manga about the events leading up to the trailers. Of course it's revealed later in the show who Yang's looking for but..."Spoilers, darling"

I can understand how you could have missed the trailers but how do you watch 6 seasons of a show and not remember any characters names?

To be fair I’ve been watching this since it came out and it took me till the end of season 3 to get everyone’s names straight b/c they introduce then don’t say the names often
Why she cut him loose was mentioned in the trailer. After looking in that box before the big mech fight, he told her to "Go on to the next car while I set the charges." She replied, "What about the crew members." to which he said, "What about them.". She was concerned about innocent casualties and he didn't care, that's why she left him. Remember the quote at the start, "Your hopes have become my burden, I will find my own liberation.".

What you propably didn't know about Weiss, and it's also only hardly recognizable in the anime is, that the statue, she fighted was a test, if she is allowed to attend to Beacon academy.
The moment she got beaten in the face and she was wounded showed that she actually lost her aura for that moment what means that she isn't invulnerable any more to physical damage.
To keep fighting could've caused her death and she still did it to leave home. The scar you can see over her left eyes comes from this fight.
What's even worse is that the guy who let the possessed armor into the room described how powerful it is to try to discourage her from fighting it. This is shown by her replying "So you're basically telling me I don't stand a chance." in the manga.
(Martin) Wow, Weiss shows some true inner strength even in gritty moments. Powerful truths about her. I didn't notice but thanks, I just started understanding the Aura as we got further into the show.
Also her father set up the whole thing and she did it anyway.
A moment of silence for Monty Oum, one of the greatest animators to exist
Monty Oum was amazing at fight sequences and almost designed every fight almost completely on his own until his passing after the 3rd ssn. Also the two girls in Yang's trailer do show up in one episode but say/do very little.

RWBY = Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang Clever how the colors they wear match the acronym as well.
Do you mean their names? The acronym is RWBY (= Ruby), they don't match that. Each of their names is a word synonymous with each of thir colors though. Weiss is German for White, Yang is Chinese for Sun, Blake is Old English for Black, and Ruby obviously refers to the Red gemstone.

@Roc - you've watched all of RWBY, but you've never watched the trailers before? That's ... amazing. Just ... amazing.
These aren't really "trailers", in the sense of a movie trailer where you see things that will be happening in the movie. Although these trailers do show background for events in the show, they're much more like character shorts for each character, introducing fighting styles and weapons. The Red trailer was actually Monty Oum's pitch to the higher-ups at RoosterTeeth on green-lighting RWBY, to show them some ideas for the animation style and the background of the show.
Surprised that no one mentioned the music in the trailers. Each character has a different musical theme, and the music is a really important part of the show. The lyrics in the songs can give you backgrounds for the characters, especially if you listen to the full length versions from the soundtrack.
Technically, the reason for Blake's (the girl in the Black trailer) leaving Adam (the guy in the trailer) on the train IS in the trailer. If you want to see it, listen to the conversations between the two characters and watch the expressions during them. The answer's there, but a lot of reactors miss it in all the action.
(Roc) I rewatched because of this comment. Completely missed the meaning of the lyrics in the music so thanks for that. I caught the reason for Blake and Adams split during the video and that cleared up SO MUCH. I watched on VRV and they dont have the trailers. Honestly I'm kinda glad I got to see this later on though. Gave me some RWBY to tide me over until the new season comes out haha
@@nerdcouncil "Mirror, Mirror" made the White trailer my favorite, both for the beautiful melody and the haunting sense of insecurity and loneliness from the lyrics (although it's always a kick watching people react to Ruby going from floating gently in front of the moon to cutting monsters in half with her scythe in the Red trailer). It makes Volume 1 Weiss a lot easier to understand.
The longer versions of several of the songs on the OST can make a major difference in how you feel about the song (This Will Be The Day, Red Like Roses pt 2, etc). The songs in the Red and White trailers (Red Like Roses pt 1 and Mirror, Mirror) are the only ones where you actually hear the entire song during the trailers, both the Black and Yellow songs (From Shadows and I Burn) have longer versions on the soundtrack.
I would strongly recommend watching the show on the RoosterTeeth website. Both to give them the credit they deserve for producing the show, and because Volume 6 (and presumably all later volumes) is only available on the RT website. I don't know VRV, but I think I've heard some other reactors mention that either there or Crunchyroll you can't get captions for the episodes, which would also help avoid missing dialog when multiple people are watching at the same time and possibly talking over the show.
The red trailer was made by Monty to sell the show to Rooster Teeth to put it into production
Ya know what? I feel like, mainly Ruby and some others, they hold back when it comes to other human beings so that is why she might look more ruthless towards Grimm? I am not sure how to explain but I feel like hat is something that makes sense
Yeah, like in the first episode, if you slow the video and watch closely, Ruby doesn't let the blade of her scythe touch anyone. She hit the henchmen with the pole and the back of her scythe and kicked them so she could knock them out instead of hurting them.
The big difference is that humans have an Aura, that offers protection from a lot of damage (depending on the strength of your aura) and Grimm do not. That's why people can take a lot more hits and not die.

Note all of these trailers were animated by the late and great Monty oum with the songs being made by montys close friend jeff williams and his daughter casey lee williams who does singing who was 14 at the time no joke

Not true. Monty had a team. He did a lot, but it wasn't all him. I believe he did the red trailer himself, but he had to have had a team.
Shane was one of um. And Monty did all 4 trailers by himself. except for character design. His girlfriend before she was his wife helped with that. Monty designed all the weapons himself tho.
In case no one has said this:
Each character has a “quirk” called a semblance.
Ruby - Speed
Weiss - Glyphs & Summoning (spoiler)
Blake - Shadow clones (essentially)
Yang - She gets stronger with every hit she gets and can dish that energy back in a super move (she is basically a Super Saiyan)
Also each weapon has a name:
Ruby - crescent rose (sniper rifle scythe combo)
Weiss - Myrtenaster (a rapier + a revolver. For her dust cartridges)
Blake - Gambol Shroud (gun + katana)
Yang - Ember Celica (shotgun gauntlets)

Ruby's semblance is burst into rose petals, which is why she can do things later in the show that wouldn't make sense with just speed.
Actually Blake's is a gun, Katana, dual blades (kind of), and whip combo.
Nemasis Demarini actually it’s speed but at a point in the show a character says that a symblance can evolve as they get stronger. The rose petals are symbolic of wind and therefore speed.
Can we all get a moment to pay respect to Monty Oum. The person who created RWBY. May he rest in peace and may we never stop moving forward.

(Martin) That means a lot to me, thank you. I'm glad people are entertained. I'm grateful to have Roc and Phil, they contribute in meaningful ways to the channel, and with each there own unique take as well.
All RWBY episodes up to Volume 5 are available on TH-cam for free, and since they are shared by Rooster Teeth like this they don't trigger copyrights, even for the intros. In fact, Rooster Teeth encourages reaction videos on most of their shows. Volume 6 of RWBY is only available on Rooster Teeth's website though, but it is still shared for free. There's also a sort of side show called RWBY Chibi that, if you're interested by it, I recommend only watching after Volume 3 as it contains major spoilers.
I think Volume 6 might start going up on TH-cam when Volume 7 starts this November-ish (the premiere date isn't set in stone, just so they don't have to overwork animators if they can't reach the deadline). And yeah, reactions don't get taken down by RT, though TH-cam targets them if there's no moving background around the video, so people without facecams have trouble.
Blake's power is that she leaves behind a clone of herself while she moves away from the spot, getting her out of the way of a blow that would otherwise hit her. The clone blurs out as it dissapears, indicating that it was a clone in the first place.
She even uses the clones to maneuver in mid-air. I think they're semi-solid, since I've noticed one take a punch to the face and go flying backward.
She can also use dust to add an element to the clones.
Monty Oum is the one responsible for the great fight choreography in the early volumes. Sadly he passed away during pre-production of V3. After V3 fighting choreography dives a bit, especially during V5 (but I think that was more of a budget issue). The choreography improved in V6 tho.
(Martin) wow and apparently from an allergic reaction, how sad.
@@nerdcouncil Monty did pass away from an allergic reaction, but what occurred wasn't really a "common" occurrence. From what I understand (heard through 3rd party sources), Monty went to get an Allergen immunotherapy (at least I believe). He was allergic to cats. So he attempted a medical procedure to reduce the effects of the reaction. Due to the medical procedure, he had a bad reaction, fell into a coma and was later pronounced brain dead.
Now there is "some" drama about the whole thing, huge falling out at RoosterTeeth when it occurred, so best to be careful how far down the rabbit hole you want to go about Monty.
But Monty was a genius. First major video of his released was "Haloid", then it was "Dead Fantasy 1-6", then he got a job with RoosterTeeth for RvB, and then RWBY.

That is scary if that was done here... none of my business but i'm sure that is a possible lawsuit if pursued. Sorry to hear about Monty this way, not deserved at all, and ya good to know not to dig into it.
@@nerdcouncil I'm pretty certain that the medical procedure is not one that they give at a drop of the hat. I'm sure that the doctors knew the risks, and warned Monty of said risks. (There were no lawsuits against the hospital from what I know, ie maybe Monty waved liability?)
Volume 3 had a bit of internal drama going on within the Animation department and company itself. Lot of emotions going on after the passing of Monty, pointing fingers, anger, and blame.
You can probably find more details (different views of the situation) out there on the internet. But like I said... rabbit hole.

I dunno if anyone pointed out, but there were black birds in the Red, Black, and Yellow Trailers.
It's easy to miss in the Red Trailer because it swoops across the camera for half a second. In the Black Trailer, it flies away when Blake and Adam get to the cliff, and in the Yellow Trailer, it hops off a lamp post and flies away as Yang approaches the club.
The White Trailer shows how Weiss got her scar, though there's an animation error where you can see her scar next to the blood on her face. However, throughout the first half of the fight, she doesn't have a scar, and we get a couple really good shots of that side of her face that show this clearly.
It's sad that the only material that explains the White Trailer is the first RWBY manga that came out a couple or so years ago in Japan, drawn by Shirow Miwa.
Basically, Weiss was training at home one day, and the guy overseeing her training said she should further improve her skills at Atlas Academy. Weiss reminded him that she wanted to go to Beacon, and he reminded her that her father wanted her to stay in Atlas and started trying to guilt trip her into staying. He then lets that giant suit of armor (which the writers said is possessed by a Grimm) into the training room and tells her that her father said she has to fight it if she continues her "selfishness" in wanting to go to Beacon. He explains how powerful it is, leading Weiss to respond "So you're basically saying I don't stand a chance." During the fight, she narrates about how she grew up with her sense of pride being tied to her family, and she intends to create her own sense of self that she can be proud of.
When you guys get to Volumes 4, 5, and 6, absolutely watch the character shorts! Volumes 4 and 6 each only have one character short, but Volume 5 has three.
I assumed the black birds in red and black trailers were qrow (watching over Ruby and watching the white fang) and the one in the yellow trailer was Raven secretly watching yang.
RIP Monty. He’s the creator of the show and the one that made these trailers. He passed after the 2nd season.
I watch alot of reaction RWBY channels, and i am always up to watch new ones, specially those who have never seen RWBY before and i get to see how you all fall in love of the show just as we did, so i am now your 380 subscriber :D see you on the next one

Blake which is black leaves a shadow version of herself behind. Weiss which is White uses glyph's. Ruby which is Red use speed. Yang which is Yellow is strength I think.
Yang is something like a berserker power. As she takes hits, her own strength increases.

Finally gonna go through the playlist. Monty made the first two trailers alone, proof of concept stuff. RT picked it up, hence the voicework and extra characters in the second pair. Incidentally, Ruby reloaded with gravity dust ammo, and Yang reloaded with fire dust ammo.

As a reminder: The white trailer is ALSO the story of how she got the scar that goes down her left eye.
The Forest in the Black Trailer is Red because its the Forever Fall forest, the leaves are forever a bright red color, and are falling and all year round with the colors to match just like the season of Autumn, or "Fall".

Definitely a great series to watch. They explain all the things you guys are asking about, Jutsu gradually. They also have little "stories of Remnant" that explain things like dust, aura, etc
if you enjoyed these trailers, you should watch a really old series of videos called "Dead Fantasy" which was made by the guy who was in charge of the RWBY show until his passing, Monty Oum. He made Dead Fantasy before RWBY.
12:01 i know this was awhile ago but in case your still confused, its pretty much like shadow stepping, making a fake her to launch herself in any direction (i know you knew that 2ed part but thats what a shadow step is, not just for her)
How much they say. The men completely forgot how to silently watch to the end and only then draw conclusions.
The reason Yang isn't killing those guys is 'cause her weapons don't fire shotgun shells. They fire pulses of raw kinetic energy.

The songs and trailers have meaning and not just that it shows u what they are capable of
There is a deeper meaning into the lore of the world of RWBY
the twins in yellow do appear in the show. its in the first season, the episode is called painting the town
The twins in the Yellow trailer don't appear in the show, but you do meet their mother in Volume 6 in Mistral - LIttle Miss Malachite.
The twin girls in the Yellow trailer are in the show, they are the Malechite twins they just dont make many appearances.
These were made almost a year before the show as a teaser for their new show
Also just wanted to add all the characters are based of fairy tails and folklore.

Yang - Goldilocks
The secondary main characters are gender bent versions of some too
Jaune - Joan of Arc
Nora - Thor
Pyrhha - Achilles
Ren - Mulan
Then professor Ozpin and his posse are all from Wizard of Oz
Ozpin - is well obviously Oz
Prof. Goodwitch - self explanatory as well
Ironwood - the tin man
And there are a few others that wont be revealed till later so I wont say the rest but they're kinda obvious when shown.
And the people that have animal features are called Faunus.

Thor crossed dressed after his hammer was stolen.
The ice giants took it and buried it, refusing to tell anyone unless Freya (a Norse Goddess) married their chief. She refused, so Thor disguised himself as her and went instead. After the wedding, the chief gave "Freya" the hammer to send home, and which point Thor dropped his disguise and killed everyone.
There's a lot more to the story than that (for instance Loki was there helping Thor the entire time and they got along about as well as you'd think), so you should look it up.
Professor Bartholomew Oobleck is based on the Dr. Seuss book Bartholomew and the Oobleck.
Professor Peter Port is based on Peter and the Wolf (hence him telling the students about how he captured a Beowolf).
Cardin Winchester is based on Henry Beaufort, who was a Cardinal and the Bishop of Winchester (he picked the Black Bishop piece in the initiation). Henry played a role in the conviction and subsequent execution of Joan of Arc.
Adam is based on the Beast from Beauty and the Beast, hence his emblem being, according to Monty Oum himself, a wilting rose.
The RWBY wiki actually has subpages for a lot of the characters called Behind the Scenes, which explain their allusions to fairy tales, classic books, folklore, etc. It's neat.

The reason people can take all the brutal blows and not bleed everywhere is because of their semblance. They generate a certain ability and a personal shield.

I mean yes, her eyes turn red when she's angry, but technically the reason they turn red is because she's activating her semblance. It just so happens that there is generally overlap.
RWBY doesn't just stand for the colors that the girls represent. It's the initials of their first names. R = Ruby Rose, W = Weiss Schnee, B = Blake Belladonna, Y = Yang Xiao Long. Put them together on a team and you got Team RWBY. Also they already have a video game made for them by Rooster Teeth. It's titled; RWBY: Grimm Eclipse, and it also features Team JNPR via DLC. Also you guys got a lot of catching up to do. There are 6 Volumes of RWBY out now, with a RWBY Volume 7 on the way. Also with each volume, the animation just gets better and better. Enjoy. ;)

If you are interested Dead Fantasy is a good one too. The original creator of RWBY(Monty Oum) did Dead Fantasy as well. It's six 'Episodes' it was meant to be nine but he died before he could finish

No problem, I watched this show over and over alot of times haha.
If you need more Monty Oum and loved his fight choreography. I would recommend Haloid (Characters from Halo and Metroid) and the unfinished work of Dead Fantasy 1-6 (Characters from games: Dead or Alive, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Ninja Gaiden). Just extras just to show the appreciation of Monty Oum's fight choreography.
Otherwise, most people recommend for all viewers who are new that episode 8 (which is about half of the show so far) before really involving into the series. So if you're leaning into that, maybe watch til episode 8 before committing into the series. Otherwise, have fun!
(Martin) We did a halo reaction to infinity, and Metroid is great, played the GC versions. Halo 1 and The entire Gears series hold a special place in my memory :)....

So the RWBY girls (and many of the other characters) are based on actual Fairy Tale / Folklore characters; Ruby is based on Little Red Riding Hood; Weiss Schnee = Snow White (her name literally means this in German), Blake Belladonna (Beauty & the Beast---YES both), Yang = Goldilocks.
Moreover, of all the girls, Weiss is the one most like a stereotypical "anime Magical girl", using her rapier like a wand to channel her glyphs with the different dust chambers in the mechanism of her sword.
That Choreo tho... If you guys would like to see/react to some of Monty's earlier work, check out the Dead Fantasy Series of shorts. I think there are 6 episodes. No real story. Just Monty showing off his animating prowess. Particularly with fight Choreography. You may even recognize some of style and moves in relation to RWBY.

Blake's semblance is called "Shadow". She can create "shadow clones" or copies of herself. The clones take the hit while she moves out of the way.
Yeah, It'susually used as kind of a short-range teleport while leaving the clone behind.
She can also use dust to give the clones an element.

- While the White, Black, and Yellow trailers are canon to the show, the Red trailer was made as a proof of concept and is only semi-canon. _Elements_ from it are canon, but the battle itself isn't (except maybe as a daydream of Ruby's 😉) That is also why the Grimm look different in the Red trailer.
- the battle vs the knight in the White trailer was a test her father forced to face to be able to go to Beacon (he wanted her to either not become a Huntress or to go to Atlas where he'd have an easier time influencing her). And as others have said, the punch that made her bleed gave her the scar you can see over her eye (My personal interpretation is that she relaxed her Aura a bit after dodging the sword, a rookie mistake, but then, she _is_ a rookie at this point)
- Yeah, Blake being a Faunus is a spoiler, but one that's revealed by the end of Volume 1. Not like Roc revealed something from volume 4 or 7 or whatever.
- the Train in the Black trailer belongs to the Schnee Dust Company (SDC), Weiss's family company (you can see the Schnee family symbol on a lot of the crates). The SDC and the faunus have a ... complicated relationship. And, as others have said, Adam's bloodthirstiness in regards to the train's crew was the last straw for Blake, leading to her departure.
- Yeah, that was Roman Torchwick hiring the goons we see in episode 1.
- throughout the club scene, we hear club-mixes of the songs from the other 3 trailers. and a club-mix version of Yang's theme begins as Junior comes out with the rocket launcher.
- The twins (and Junior) do show up in a Volume 2 episode. Also, the twins started off as early concept art for Ruby and Weiss.
- There actually are a few RWBY video games. RWBY Grimm Eclipse was released in 2016 on PC/Mac and the next year on PS4/XBOX1, another game, RWBY Arrowfell, is supposed to be in development, and there's been a couple RWBY mobile games as well

The choreography was great, went WAY downhill after Monty passed, in Vol. 4 and 5. And not an understandable amount (Monty was something special when it came to choreography), but in a laughable, omg this is truly awful, amount. Thankfully, in Vol. 6, they seemed to get people who know how to choreograph a decent fight and used segments from fights Monty choreographed.
GarikLoran I think a lot of there problems was working with a new system besides Monty passed away right after the second season he didn’t really work on season 3 and the fighting was great

Well it was clean when Monty Oum was still alive, lately season 6 or so they have been slipping, but season 7 is getting up there again. But there is a lot off shit going on, behind the scenes, at Rooster teeth animation studio.
There is an associated videogame for RWBY called RWBY: Grimm Eclipse for PS4.....re: "kids show", yeah, for Vol.1-2, you can safely show those to children. Vol.3 is when it gets dark and goes darker...kids can watch RWBY Chibi but the main show not so much.

"Best choreography out of all the shows I've seen." I'd agree... but then there's Red vs Blue. No matter how much I love RWBY's fights, RvB had even BETTER fights! It's just that with RWBY you get to see more original types of fights and fighting styles, which RvB couldn't, given how the weapons and combatants were limited to guns, fists, and humans. Blake's semblance was based on CT, and Ruby's was on Carolina, and the Meta was OG Yang but meaner and more menacing... and less talkative. If you haven't watched RvB PLEASE DO!
