Nerd Council reaction to another First Episode Friday show that Roc picked out. Here we go over a very popular and new show called RWBY from Rooster Teeth. We actually had a quick interview with Geoff Ramsey if you like to see it under our "AT&T Shape" VLOG in our channel feed.
We absolutely found this show interesting and unique! (Martin's) first impressions it has a similar animation style as a video game called Fear Effect which is kind of like a Cel-Shaded look. The main protagonist Ruby Rose is quite interesting, she plays this innocent teen in the first episode and quickly shows her moxy when she is provoked, her skills are limited but she has help from a few friends in battle that are more skilled then she is at the moment.

just so you know the entire first volume was animated by about 10 people with a fairly small budget

It's easier to just say the "Red, White, Black, and Yellow Trailers" because saying shorts can confuse new viewers with the volume 4 and onward character shorts.
I do agree, however, that those trailers should have been called "Volume 1 Character Shorts" or something.
Ruby was in the equivalent of high School, not middle school. She's fifteen and had two years left at Signal. Yang is seventeen and was headed to Beacon Academy. Ozpin, the head master of Beacon, let Ruby skip ahead two years and go to his university early. They are in college, not high school. Freshmen in college to be sure but still college students non the less.
YAS THANK U!!! I always thought of the Huntsmen academies as colleges simce it's the last education you can possibly get before finally heading out to work full time.

Cool... but don't over explain the series, let the story tell itself.
That said, I hope you stick with it, it's a decent ride, though volume one is the weakest - almost a prologue to the real story.
It´s a personal favourite of mine. Volume 1 I mean.

@@nerdcouncil Now I might be making this up, but I believe that it was actually done in a program/software used for fighting games. And the creator was way into fighting/dancing choreography, so it adds up.

@@johnyshadow Ahh makes sense. Kind of why I likened it to FEAR EFFECT on PS1, a very good game for those that like RE1 style of gameplay or dino crisis. I would have to look into it myself haha I'm not sure about it (Martin)
Agreed. Also, the sound quality is pretty crap, and the show volume is too low. The fact that you all talk over it the whole time only compounds the problem.

yeah don't keep EXPLAINING things. let your friends learn about the series on their own. It's a RWBY react not "react to my friends reactions of me telling them exactly what's going on"
Hey all. Always nice to see new reactors to this amazing show. First thing up though, you need to react to the trailers first. They are canon and important to the story and introduction of the main characters.
This is the first animation series by Roosterteeth, and in that sense a bit of an experiment. As a result, the RWBY team had limited resources for the first season (Monty Oum did the first trailer by himself), resulting in sometimes wonky animation and short episodes. It made up for it with amazing fight choreography, great story, relatable characters and one of the best soundtracks ever. The succes of the series meant improvements were made with every season.
Season one has a couple of episodes (chapters) that were cut up into two parts to fit the release schedule. Because these are short, it's best to watch them together in one go.
chapter 1, 2+3, 4+5, 6+7, 8, 9+10, 11+12, 13+14, 15, 16
For the sceptics, give it a chance until after chapter 8. If you still don't like it after that, you probably never will. :)
Thanks for the good info, we may have to watch trailer (Martin). Also I'm a fan of the art style, and the dialogue writing has that rooster teeth feel.

I always thought on how the plot would've played out if Ruby stayed at Signal Academy instead of skipping these two years.
Cinder & her crew would have gotten away with more. I wonder who would have been Weiss's team member & if they would have picked the chess piece that yang picked which led to them being in the same team. Everyone would have just been too different 🤔.

Looks like trailers are in our future. (Martin). Also good to know, MHA completely blocked us after multiple attempts so you never know. I took a pre-caution this time, and I got copyrighted for the intro music, but I can't even take it out without some extensive editing skills.

Sometimes it's not that easy. Idk how this stuff works through YT's broken bots, but some ppl have always struggled with RWBY blocks while others have no issues. Volume 2 seems to be the most problematic.
I suggest watching the 4 volume 1 trailers first.
If you guys continue with your RWBY watch you gotta watch the trailers. ^ - ^
But please continue watching. It gets soooo much better and the story gets very interesting.

I found this show only a year ago. It is my favorite show ever. The animation improves every year up to volume 6 at least...I recommend sticking with it. Just know the first volumes episodes are extremely short due to their budget at the time.

You said Ruby is in middle school and it's like they're skipping her into high school, but it's more like she's in high school and they're skipping her into college. I mean, Beacon entry age is 17, which is close to the age students enter college/university (17-18). While students enter high school as 15(ish) year olds, which is Ruby's age at this point.
It's a great show and the animation improves immensely. You can't learn much about the world of the characters in 15 min. I promise, these people are really good at world building and character developement.
Hopefully we will have another episode up soon, we just shot one.
I don't usually watch reactions but there's something about RWBY reactions that I like, I'm definitely gonna stick with you if you continue with them. Also the only thing that kinda throws me off is that you sometimes explain a lot of the stuff and might accidentally throw a spoiler in (not hating just mentioning that you should be more careful!) Hey guys, I would love to have you watch this show and Join its FNDM .. 😊 .. As Roc said, the Animation Improves IMMENSELY as the show progresses and the fight choreography is amazing. Also, the Music in the show is Top notch and is highlight by itself. If you go back and watch the Red, White, Black and Yellow trailers you will see just how Awesome it can be. Others have already told ya to watch the trailers but I have more to say.
Just so you know, the last episode of each volume (season) has an end-credits scene, remember that!
Also, each volume has an original soundtrack. Reacting to them is not necessary but some songs add to characters and the story, and it would be nice to get your thoughts on them. Lyric videos always help. FlyntofRWBY makes some of the best even tho he didn't do some for volume one or two.
This doesn't really matter yet, but ima just get it out of the way. So I know I told y'all.
RWBY has a mini series called World of Remnent (WoR). The videos all give you more info on the world and how things work.
Volume 2 has 4 of those videos. Those 4 are available on TH-cam, although one of them was not uploaded by Rooster Teeth. You should still watch all 4 of them when you get to Volume 2. They have no spoilers by the time you finish volume one.
Volume 3 also has 4 WoR's. They were all uploaded to TH-cam by Rooster Teeth. I suggest you watch them after the 6th episode in Volume 3 so you don't get any spoilers.
Volume 4 has 8 WoR's. 4 of them are on youtube and the other 4 are only on RoosterTeeth.com
By the time you get to Volume 4 those 8 vids have no spoilers.
In total there are 16 WoR's. I believe they stopped making them so there won't be any new ones.
Here is some more info:
Volume 4 has one character short to be watched right before starting that volume. Similarly Volume 5 has three character shorts and Volume 6 has one again. Volume 7 will have none.
Last thing.
RWBY also has another mini series called RWBY Chibi. It's a short episodes comedy series the came out after Volume 3 of the show proper. It was necessary to get most of us out of...sad times after that volume. Season one of chibi, should you choose to watch it, should be watched after Volume 3. Chibi season 2 after volume 4, and chibi season 3 after volume 5. That was the releass order, between seasons, and should be watched like that to avoid spoilers.
I know that was a lot sorry, but most of it isn't important until you get to the volume they are a part of. I suggest you save that info until you need it and if you have any questions ever I'm always here. Welcome to the FNDM (fandom).
(Characters are based off of fairy tales/nursery rhymes/mythology/historical figures and it's always fun to have reactors try to guess them. Some are hard so don't feel bad if you have to ask for the answer.)

One suggestion for the reaction: just enjoy the show, don't try to make a lot of jokes and comments while it's going on; I guarantee you'll miss things that you'll be asking/wondering about later. One reactor I watch reacts to the show as it's happening, so he rarely misses dialog, then goes back offline and rewatches the episode (sometimes several times) so he can comment and review it for the audience. It makes it clear to the audience that he didn't miss the jokes, or the flashbacks, or background action, or whatever else happens in the show. It really works out well for him, although it's just one person, so it's easier as there's no one else to interact with or schedule time with. Just a suggestion, it might be worth a try for you guys.
Edit: Yeah, on second thought, never mind. I can tell that's not going to happen. Different scenario.

Yo so I'm late but the show is known to have a very good original soundtrack or ost for short that sounds amazing and adds to the chartecters while listening to it is optional if you do listen to it will help you understand characters better also there very nice to listen to so that's a plus
So if you do want to do the ost i suggest waiting till the end of each season aswell i can provide you lyric vids you can use since some of the songs are fast paced so lyric vids are required

The shadow people were due to the limited budget. They're gone in volume two, and the animation keeps improving. I think they've changed engines a couple of times since the start.

once you watch the trailers...no, your eyes are not deceiving you; Yang shows different sides of herself when she's out & about alone and when she's around Ruby. Probably because she spent a good portion of time stepping in for the mother. So yeah. for all intents and purposes, Yang enters the show fully mature. though she tries very hard not to be. :)
Glad to see some new RWBY reactors. Few things that may help..the eidts where you are pulling the video off the screen and the cutting out of the "outro" , which is actually the shows intro scene, is extra work you do not need to do. RWBY encourages reactor channels, as such they allow reactors to air the episode uninterrupted and with the music as long as you contact them.
Next thing the guy in the middle, sorry don't know your name yet, how are they supposed to listen to and enjoy the show if you continue to talk over dialogue and jokes they may enjoy, about stuff that will get explained by the show in a few episodes. I know you want to be a part of the videos and it is your channel so it is your right but honestly it is very annoying to have someone explain during the episode. Perhaps a better format might be to have the 2 guys new to the show react to the episode and then you come in at the end with kind of a interview to see how much they retained from the current episode and what they think might happen in the next episode? just my 2 cents hope it doesnt come off too harsh.

Its a good show, it's a really really good show, I it looks iffy and the story is kinda slow but just hold on there's a bunch of a amazing stuff in it.

Great reaction but please react and stop explaining every second. Let the show tell you story. You will miss so much. Also the art style improves as the seasons go. Also if your going to explain everything over the show. Re watch every episode and don't talk to catch everything.

Awesome! love to see new channels reacting to this series! I know its probably been said in the comments below, but if you plan on making a series out of this I highly recommend you watch the "Red", "White", "Black", and "Yellow" trailers before continuing. Not only are they SUPER bada** (SERIOUSLY), but they give you a brief view on the fighting styles of the different characters and a glimpse into their backgrounds. The animation is kind of poor the first 2 seasons because the whole show was entirely animated by 1 person.
1) The Outro song is the opening song for the entire season, always shown on the first episode. So you could have reacted to it, every other reaction video had shown the song to it too.
2) It is considered a "Web Anime" or "American Anime", so technically, it is actually an "anime" and not a "cartoon".
3) Your comments about the details of characters and personalities are shown/hinted in the 4 RWBY (Red, White, Black, Yellow) trailers.
4) The blacked out characters are not drawn because of the funding of the show. The creator used more money from the first 4 RWBY trailers than the entirety of the first season. Plus the amount of people used in the first season severely lacks comparison to other volumes down the road.
5) Each character on RWBY is represented from a Fairy Tale, Mythological, Historical figure.
(Martin) Oh interesting, especially that the trailers had more funding. probably watch it. Ya it had that Anime feel, and as for the outro song we may, depends if we can get around copyright issues.
@@nerdcouncil: That's fair enough, but if you compare to other reaction videos from other people, you can have a better understanding of what you can and cannot do. Roosterteeth as we know allows a lot of things because it is free advertisement for them and make a ton on their merchandise, and of course, RWBY has a HUGE following behind it.
