What always amazes me about most of the simple tows you guys do is that no one else bothered to help these people out. I've pulled two of my neighbors out of snow this year alone, and had to dig my own truck out twice (tires were a little too bald haha). I grew up assuming everyone has tow ropes, shovels, and a chainsaw in their truck. Sill think what you guys do is awesome!

There's more to driving on sand than soft tyres.

I couldn't make out whether that was damage or some sort of cloud and water effect.

That any TRD Pro Tacoma comes out of the factory with 2wd is mind boggling.
I'm fairly certain you can't buy a TRD Offroad or TRD pro without 4wd
TRD pro didn't exist in that year model. TRD offroad package was available in a pre runner configuration.
That was a 2wd SR5 Off Road. Not a pro. Weird that they used to make a 2wd Off abroad package but it's there.
A lot of desert racers are 2wd.
They're meant for real drivers that use momentum to attack obstacles. Also you should have a bit more tire for less surface pressure.

I really like the Morvair light set-up with the undercarriage and side LEDs.
I notice e left rear inside light was not working... but the other lights are really cool looking as you have noted.
The undercarriage lights are called "rock lights". They're useful when crawling over rough terrain at night.
Hey Matt: how about a stylized map of Sand Hallow, and the general area you service? I keep hearing the same locations among your posts but have no idea how in the world your service area is situatated

Hey Mat careful with that winch line!!! I was doing the same exact thing you did while reeling it in and my glove got caught and crushed my hand before I could release the button!!! Nearly lost 2 of my fingers!!!! Always use the hook strap to put pressure on it don't grab the hook!!

80 to 90 percent of ANY machines capabilities are in the operator. No technical wizardry can replace real world experience. Sorry kids, I know it's a tough pill to swallow but when you see that old guy driving past you in a forty year old vehicle, maybe consider consulting him as to what works best in the conditions you are wheeling in. His knowledge and wisdom are priceless. And he's probably happy to share what he knows!
Matt, get you one of those ensolite camping pads or a foam pool floaty to lay on on that hot concrete.. that's what I do!!

A sheet of cardboard will work. It's free and I'm sure they have a ton of it laying around at the shop.

Living in a desert my whole life and being an off roader I've been gotten stuck and also made it through some crazy stuff both many times.. I would agree with your titles that these new trucks are not built like they used to be but at the same time disagree that mostly it is not the trucks but these days but the drivers that don't know how to drive in the conditions.
Yeah I think the truck gets bought and adds a false sense of off road competency to its driver. I mean, it’s a Rebel, right? It should get me through anything! All the electronic BS in the world won’t make up for real seat time.
Hey man, ITS 4WD, I can go anyplace. Plus these 4WD trucks today are on street tires, not off road tires

I've gone to a place "only 4x4s could go" in a small FWD 1.0 coupe with asphalt tires. I don't consider myself a good driver at all, but I reckon bad drivers do make things worse.
over here you barely find paths where you could drive offroad. Most offroad worthy locations I know are paths in between fields - they are kept in such a good condition that you can drive them at 40 to 60 mph in a normal street car. I guess I would get stuck in actual offroad conditions pretty quickly

So many great fans! I wanna be in the room when the insurance companies notice towing claims are up 1000% in southern Utah and they're all for the same company! 😅
I wonder how that works. I would've thought if you drive your car a couple miles off the road they would try and say they can't cover it because you're taking a car where it's not really intended to be for your own amusement. I always figured most of these people are paying for the recovery out of their own pocket.
@@glazedandconfused4756 some insurance companies have limits of distance from roadways. And then some want the asset recovered as to not have total loss claims!

You all are the greatest work team! And someone must have sold them the stickers separate on that Taco as it should have been 4WD. Odd no one mentioned to them to get off-road tires and air down in the sand🙌🏾
All my shackle pins have been tighten down with wrench. I never take them off and it stopped thieves from stealing them. I use soft shackles on them when I self recover or recover someone else. I love soft shackles!!
If only one D ring was missing it likely rattled off instead of being stolen. Same happened to me before I learned to tighten them down.
@@TheSimpleGamer42 I live Houston Texas they stole all 4 shackles and my receiver hitch at the stadium. Guess some dopehead needed a fix.
A wrench and some high-strength Loctite ought to deter the thieves, and prevent them from vibrating loose.
@@straybullitt Nobody has stolen them for 3 years now with just wrench tight LOL
I use grade 8 bolts and stand on a breaker bar, I still have all my hitch balls in place. Oh the breaker bar is a great attitude adjustment tool, lol.

You need a second channel. 2WD trucks and passenger cars in places they shouldn't be.
I don't understand why the Yota TRD Prerunner is 2wd.
Its super common for real prerunners to be 2wd
Front end weight of the 4x4 components makes a bad jumper. They come down front first.
Pre-Runners are all 2wd.
My 4X4 TRD with a 5 spd has the electrically lockable rear diff and an override for the clutch lockout so you can start in gear or move it with the starter.
@@SurvivalistMedia jumping won’t do ya much good if you can’t make it to the jump spot... that’s just my opinion
@@AustinH7 Your opinion makes sense in regards to these street truck pre-runners. Real pre-runners are high hp with giant tires that typically moving too fast to ever get stuck, all the Baja 500/1000 winners in over the last decade are all 2WD. But regular street trucks that are "Pre-Runner" are just a trim for 2WD trucks that are made to look like 4WD. Not really meant to be used in that way.

That first bit in Beaver Dam is my mom's backyard. Endless stream of folks getting stuck down there. PSA " river access by hooved mammals only" & "no little Jamaica here".
If signs are put up, they are promptly run over by people trying to get stuck. Also fences are a no go that close to the river.

Between the rock lights on the Morvair and what I'm assuming is better lighting or better camera the night rescues have greatly improved.

I got stuck in a "driveway" concrete truck fully loaded. Guy only put two inches of stone over a farm field he bought to build a house on. Down she went half way down a half mile long driveway. "Oh yeah I didn't get all the stone for the driveway yet..." Looked good on the surface.
Love the headlights of that new 5 series.

For your application I would go "Old School too". I had a '64 Willis Overland Wagon with and old Flat head Engine that could pull almost any thing. It wasn't very fast and it was bad at chewing up front Drive shafts if you got the wheels a little up in the air. But she was fun.
Sandhollow is the gift that keeps on giving.
