  • Were looking at some of the Most Confusing, Weird, Illogical or just odd Nintendo 3Ds Ports. Things that make you go why? Why would you change that or why you you port this to the Nintendo 3ds console. Some of the games were looking at include Luigi's mansion 3D, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3ds, Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn and more.

The later ports make sense to go to 3DS despite the Switch being out because there was still an audience to support with content at that point, and porting games would be easier than making a bunch of brand new 3DS titles, freeing up more resources to make new stuff for Switch.
I mean Nintendo did still make some original games for the 3DS post Switch launch, but they were mostly deep into development anyway, were generally smaller scale, and there was a greater focus on the ports.

    • @GenerationZ313
      @GenerationZ313 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

Well the way I see it is that Nintendo themselves weren't quite sure if the switch was going to be very successful I mean I certainly didn't. So the 3DS ports were just there as backup in case the Nintendo switch failed.

@@GenerationZ313 definitely! About Luigi's Mansion: It was originally intended to be a stereoscopic 3D Title during development so it makes sense they ported it to the 3DS. It was just very late to the party. Especially as having a port of the original before the sequel came out on the same system in 2013 would've made a lot of sense...
Even more baffling concerning Hyrule Warriors 3D was that they kept updating the Wii U Version. Not one Character is unique to the 3DS Version. Sure, it has a little extra content in form of a little Extra at the end of the story yet other Adventure Maps but that's hardly a reason to buy it. (Though I bought it for the Compass Clock alone and never even started it so who am I to judge?)
Not that this matters at all given that Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition exists for the Switch now. And yes, it is a better game than Age of Calamity by far. But then again beating a game that cannot even have a good menu, when countless games in the same style by the same developer had, isn't anything to be proud of...
And about your suspicion it probably was just done for the sake of being done: I am sure Hyrule Warriors 3D owes its entire existence to Dynasty Warriors VS...
I will break a lance for motion controls here for OoT 3D and MM3D: Regardless of whether you're using the slingshot or the bow. This works better than it did ever before. (And to be transparent here I am used to the GC Ports which are already better than the N64 version in terms of precision.)
About overcorrection in MM3D: I like the changes to the boss fight with Gyorg as the original fight was basic as hell. Giant Link wrestling against Twinmold on the other hand I could've lived without. The Giant Eye Thing wasn't needed whatsoever though.
Another questionable change: That you can timewarp to any point in Time makes the time management that some sidequests require(d) null and void. It really hurts the pay-off for the Kafei Quest in my opinion.
(I know this point is very specific, but still:) Why does the Inverted Song of Time ("Hymn of Chronos" is a way better name btw) only double the amount of Time you have? If it was still tripling it the Two-Cycle Challenge would still be possible. It plain-out isn't in MM3D.)
Why the change with the Ice Arrows happened is actually known. They were a known clipping tool. But couldn't they work out another way to prevent that?
Concerning Mario Maker's absurd decision that you cannot search for Levels online:
I would've understood if they made the restriction that you have to download the levels instead of streaming them. That would've made sense. Yet it isn't the case.

To get the 3ds hyrule warriors content in the wii u version im pretty sure you had to own the 3ds copy and they gave you a code to redeem which gave you the characters only. Also Luigi's Mansion 2 was on 3DS, so a 3DS port of the first made more sense at the time. Otherwise you would play 1 on Switch, then downgrade to 3DS for 2, then back to Switch for 3.

For someone like me who primarily owns handhelds, the 3ds versions of these games where a great way to get easy access to them. Even if it was at the cost of some performance they were all still great editions despite not being equal graphically to what the most top of the line PC's and consoles could put out.
Instead of asking why didn't they exclude the 3ds versions at that play bases expense they should be asking why Nintendo hasn't ported those games to the switch as well after all these years. Especially since we're talking about primarily first party games.

I’ll give my two cents as someone who actually played through Xenoblade on 3DS. Is it the best way to play xenoblade? No. Is it a good way to play Xenoblade. Maybe.
What you have to remember is that the game came out when Xenoblade was very rare and if my memory serves me correct not yet available on the Wii U eshop. If you wanted to play the game you would have to pay steep prices for a second hand copy. As someone who needed to get a new 3DS anyways I was thrilled that I finally got the chance to play the game.

Fine, let me put it another way...
It's just a shell of its former self. The eshop is closing, and while some games are still enjoyable to play, those games can easily be emulated or there are better versions on the switch. I love the 3ds as much as any other person, but even I have to admit that it's not what it used to be.
Anyway why are we fighting (I know we're not fighting, just having a "debate") over this, who cares if it's dead or not, it's still a game console at the end of the day, and even though it will be dead really soon (with the closure of the eshop) let's just remember the good times we had with the 3ds. So I take back what I said, nothing is dead until it's forgotten, the virtual boy is dead, no one remembers that crap. This is why the wii isn't dead, people love that console, there's home brew and people made fan servers for Mario kart and smash bros., so let's just forget I called this system "dead".

I liked the additions made to Extra Epic Yarn, though I think an option to play the vanilla version would've been welcomed for veterans. The Ravel Abilities are implemented a bit sloppily, with them activating at the same time your Yarn Whip extends. Should've been a separate button, I feel. The worst part for me is the lack of multiplayer. I played Epic Yarn with all my friends growing up, but this port gutted it entirely. Prince Fluff, the game's original protagonist before it joined the Kirby series, has been reduced to an NPC who cameos in every stage. Ouch.
I wouldn't want to live in a world where KEEY never existed, but I would like it ported to the Switch with some additional changes.

Another downgrade on Mario Maker 3DS; they removed the unlockable sprite skins from clearing a number of levels, scanning your Amiibo, or playing exclusive levels uploaded online by Nintendo. Kinda puts a damper on making differently-themed levels based on the characters you could dress up as instead of being perpetually Mario all the time.
Xenoblade was fine for me after getting used to it, aside from the tiny nub that controls the camera on the 3DS, I've had next to no issues with it.
Hyrule Warriors is playable on the New 3DS, but I HIGHLY recommend not to play it with the 3D effect turned on. It gives the game way more slowdown and it becomes much more obvious in the victory animations at the end of missions as the animation and audio become totally out of sync.
Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater is another baffling port... the controls are made more convoluted to what we were used to on PS2 controls. A minor gripe is you can hear newly-recorded audio of the voice actors when teaching you the controls on the 3DS, the sound quality is notably different from the original dialog 20 years ago. Either way, the game became delisted and I presume hard-to-find nowadays.
Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing Transformed is a mixed bag, it's a decent competitor to Mario Kart 7 but the frame rate and image resolution keep it from being a decent recommendation. They gave up on giving it DLC after only one DLC pack of one character and race track, as the Steam version got various more characters
There's plenty more baffling ports the 3DS had that the WiiU or Switch could've gotten instead, but I guess the 3DS was on life-support being given enhanced/downgraded ports before the Switch inherited that job.

The 3DS received nothing but ports from Nintendo for the last few years of its life. I believe it's because they wanted to give 3DS owners who didn't want to upgrade right away stuff to buy and play. The Wii u also was selling terribly so they ported the more popular ones to 3DS at the time. Ports are easier to make than brand new games.

Nintendo during the Wii U/3DS era was so odd. To try and cut their losses, they kept doing these console level releases on the 3DS to prop up their profits. I really wonder if it worked at all. I have my doubts a game like Kirby’s Extra Epic Yarn blew up the sales charts.

Honestly with how poorly the Wii u sold I think Nintendo probably relied mostly on the previous gen ds and Wii sales supplemented with the lukewarm success of the 3ds to get though that generation

@@daddykarlmarx6183 Agreed. I thank my lucky stars Nintendo had the 3DS to fall back on. If they hadn’t, I’m not sure they would have made it to the Switch.

The Wii U was a failure financially, and the 3DS was their lifeline, not to mention the 3rd highest-selling console in Japan at the time. It's not surprising to me at all that they supported it for so long even while the Switch was coming.
Although it was a really bad decision for them to have no online for Mario Maker 3DS.
The rest seem fine; I would much rather that the "weird" ports are there rather than them not existing at all.

Yeah and it causes a lot of confusion for people who are trying to buy a 3ds and accessories online, like the "new" could just be them saying it's a new product or something, my friend just bought a new 3ds xl and they ended up buying a case meant for the 3ds xl

Luigi's Mansion 1 if played on New 3DS systems you can use the second stick.
Also for historical reasons, the original Luigi's Mansion was originally in 3D. So it actually makes sense why it was ported to the 3DS.

I completely agree with the controls on Luigi's mansion. It's fun but I'm currently stuck halfway though on a boss. It seems nearly impossible with the way the controls are. It sucks cause I really Wana beat it.

About Luigi's Mansion on 3ds, didn't you have to aim the vacuum with motion/gyro controls and not the D-Pad? That would be really weird if that was the case

    • @King_Luigi
      @King_Luigi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Did a quick search about that and... both were an option. (Either tilt the system up/down or use the D-pad.)
But if you had a Circle Pad Pro (or a New 3DS) then it could control like the original.

I think the two weirdest ports are ones not mentioned in this video which are metal gear solid 3 and street fighter 4. I haven't played the mgs3 one but it's a baffling port nonetheless and the 3ds was such an odd platform for a game like street fighter 4 but it is the game that got me into fighting games as a whole with touchscreen input shortcuts making the game more accessible to me. Since you're limited to 4 shortcuts I could just map the harder ones to the touchscreen and learn the easier ones.

New 3DS existed for basically half of the 3DS's lifetime.
It was not a small forgotten upgrade and was quite significant.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3DS was great and was my introduction to the franchise and became my favorite game of all time too.
So much so that I bought the Wii version after beating the 3DS version numerous times

The reason NSM2 wouldn't quite work on Mario Maker is because the enemies are 3-Dimensional.
The Wii U already wasn't capable of having 300 3D Goombas on-screen, so needless to say, it wasn't happening on 3DS.
"They could've remade the sprites in the style of NSMB2" true, but I don't see how that'd fix the resolution issue, they're still sprites on a low-res screen.
The 3D models tho (Mario, Bowser, etc) definitely could've been shaded a LOT better tho.

I understand why so many people dislike the Mario Maker 3DS port, but personally, I love it.
I never had a Wii U and the only Nintendo console I had at the time was a 3DS. I got Mario Maker on my 7th birthday and I loved it. It holds a special place in my heart because I played it so much and it was actually my first Mario game. I was however disappointed when I realized that none of my levels could be published online. Overall though, it was fun.
