    It's the circumference of the tire, not its overall height, especially mounted, that dictates vehicle speed and distance. Aired down could totally account for a 1" drop in height, I bet the spedo is still slightly off.

    All the videos I've watched of the F-250 appear to be advertisements for aftermarket stuff. I get it, they are trying to earn a living, and I'm sure all that makes it perform better. But I don't think they've done anything that they couldn't have done with a stock truck. Maybe the OEM tires would have struggled a bit on some of the loose stuff I guess. It would have been more useful for potential owners to try this stuff before adding everything...then we'd be able to see if the expensive costs are worth it.

      Everything I’ve seen them do is possible with my stock 2018 F250 4x4. I don’t have the camper in the back and my only mod has been putting on stock size KO2s. This past weekend we were up around Ouray and took the passes from Ironton to Silverton. So far the only limiting factor has been the turning radius. Pick decent lines and use 4x4 before you get into trouble and you are fine.

      I see your point about a standard FX4 with more aggressive tyres. TFL Truck wants too show how a stock FX4 can be specced to be tackle almost anything off road, while being good looking and individual as an everyday vehicle. A lot of people like to cutomize and all the alterations on the Super Tremor are functional.

      I am not convinced that 7.3 litre pushrod V8 needs an after market tune just to carry a wee camper up hills. When did you boys forget that your truck is not a 2.5 litre turbo diesel. Remember, IT IS A 7.3 Litre gas engine. 🤔

    You need to learn to use FORScan. It is a software dedicated to Ford vehicles that allows you to change operating parameters. You can run it on a computer or as an app and it will allow to you to address the individual control modules in the truck. You can calibrate the tire size through FORScan. As examples, you can make the engine temperature number appear above the dashboard indicator, program the number of blinks for the lane change indicator, etc.

    • @philtripe
      @philtripe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@GreghouseVanBouten its ok if its like 3.91 and 3.73 rear or something closer... its not ideal but ok to have a faster spinning rear gear ratio so that your rears slip... you dont really want to go the other way ... hat said, matching is best if you can afford it

    • @BeanoNoir
      @BeanoNoir 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@GreghouseVanBouten You can do anything you want. If you don't want excessive wear or snappy axle shafts and yokes, you match the ratios. But be careful not to over do it, as you are technically shaving down material on your pinion gears the higher mechanical ratio you run. It's a dance between wheel torque and durability. an F-250 F-350 SRW doesn't have an issue so much as the front is a full float dana 60, and the rear is a Sterling 10.5. You can find about any ratio you want for both of those differentials. Invest in under body protection first, before anything else. Rule of thumb is, if it's old Chevy, modern Ford or Dana axles, you'll be able to find any assortment axle ratio kit for cheap, likely from a decent brand like Yukon. You can also get a lunchbox locker for the front while you're at it. Go cable or E locker for the front, as an auto locker is a pain on road for the front. Toyotas have an okay selection as well, but don't count on it being cheap. Tacomas are currently the #1 mall crawler rig right now, if you haven't noticed all of them running around in full overlanding garb with pristine paint and road worn tires. Because of that, shops that cater to that customer charge more, because they can get away with it.

    I can tell you right now that you'll need more than a 10klb winch to pull that F250 out of a real bog. That camper adds more weight for sure. I got my F250 bogged down to the frame, and it took a 12klb winch on a 1500 Ram, tied to a sideways 2500 Chevy as an anchor to get me out backwards. And that 12k Warn winch was struggling for sure! Didn't have an option for a snatch block.

    While realizing that all the goodies added to both the F250 and the Gladiator sure make for two incredible looking vehicles, plus add some offroad capability and cred, I can't help but think that both vehicles would have covered the same ground in this video in their factory stock form with no problem. For the average guy, these vehicles are already pretty stiff priced, even with dealer discounts and factory incentives. Add all those goodies and yikes, not to mention the bite you'll take if you ever wish to trade it in. The dealership will just laugh at you if you argue it's worth more because of those goodies. Not saying they won't mark it up considerably on resale, but you won't see much of a return on that investment in your trade dollars. And come on guys, that 1500# camper is a pittance of a load on that F250. And, center of gravity with it's low profile is a non issue.

    So, say someone runs 35” tires and runs the tuner at 28” or something low. Then when they sell the truck, it will only have 80% of the actual miles... seems like something the consumer should not be able to play with

    • @PhilSowden

      Was just about to ask this question. Seems like a loop hole if the tune affects the odo as well.

    To be fair, did you guys swap the gears to a higher numerically ratio when you put the 37" tires on? Plus, like you said, you're carrying around extra weight. Do a a show on swapping the ring & pinions out.

      Not like a slim wallet or squarespace commercial they are trying to plug here, or something completely unrelated. They are testing a tune for specifically for the 7.3L which is needed for their application.

  • @Superdutychase
    @Superdutychase 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Why not? So what if its tuned, they aren't even running it hard. How about running a tuned truck up the ike at full throttle with the max weight it can tow on the back of it and watch to see if the temps don't climb...lol Now that's a good video guys! Tuned on a performance only tune since they're alot more aggressive (I'm a 5 star customer, 2019 f150 5.0 supercrew 4x4 TUNED)

      Considsring most 4 wheel trailers are light weight truck campers made for 1/2 ton and midsize trucks this F250 should have NO problem carrying this camper. Especially since I hope the suspension changes should have helped their payload a bit.

      Do an underbody inspection to see how much those skid plates actually cover. If they are Glass filled nylon plates, make sure they are thicker than 3/16 inch. You need fuel tank, transfer case, transmission, oil pan ,and radiator coverage.(if it hangs lower than the steel bumper) Do not attempt this with 20" wheels as you WILL curb rash them, and possibly even bust a bead. Biggest rims I would suggest are 18", in ideally stamped mild steel, or hunky chunky Alloy. Most 3/4 ton and up alloy rims are usually forged because of the weight they have to handle. Good tires are a good bet too. If you have the stock "All terrain" Tires, they probably aren't really anything more than a Good Year Wrangler AT or a Kumho AT. Both are pretty mild all terrains. The Falkens they are running in this video are about the most aggressive AT you can buy before going to a hybrid or Mud Terrain. Nitto makes a fine AT, it does wear faster, and so do Toyo and Dick Cepek. BFGs are always there if you happen to be over 45 years old as well 😁 . They are still great in the rocky bits with their hard compound, but tend to be mediocre, at best, in winter driving because of that hardness. In other words, when doing a contact sport, you always want to make sure you're wearing the right shoes, and a cup.
