So glad to find your video! Often homeschool videos seem to feature families with very young children, so it is great to hear from a family with older kids. My oldest two (also boys) are 10 and 13. I have 3 more younger kids, but it is nice to hear about how school goes for your guys. I totally understand how lunch break can s t r e t c h!!! Happens all the time!
I agree, I like seeing what other homeschoolers schedules are like. Every year I type up our "ideal" schedule and then tweak it as we get into the first couple weeks.
We have a very similar schedule. Morning Basket, Individual work and then our group subjects. We mainly do homeschool book work 4 days per week and a 5th day for field trips or co op.
Thanks for sharing. We just started with the homeschool planner online and it's been awesome. Makes such a big difference when they can see everything they need to do and can check off as they go. This is my first year with a high schooler so it helps me keep track of everything too!!
I do quiet time as well in the morning. We go for a walk at 9 a.m. We have breakfast. So we start school at 10:30. I use Sonlight, so we have a Read Aloud, than we do some math facts review, than work on language arts and formal math lesson before lunch. After lunch we do science, history and other stuff and we finish by 3pm. We do independent work at the end of the day because I have noticed it goes a bit quicker!! LOL School is essentially done at 3pm, but independent work is really the end of the day and so I just notice work gets done without so much lollygagging so to speak when it's at the end of the school day. However, math when some lessons are done independently ( we use MUS) I make sure it's done earlier in the day so as not to be tired at the end of the day. I have a middle school student.
Great video! We did the same thing with math this year. :). There are videos on TH-cam with fun songs to help with memorizing the presidents, and capitals.
Our schedule is very similar: memory work, individual work (math first), lunch happens, then group work. I let the kinders (twins) leave the room during group work a lot because they’re obnoxious and disruptive and I don’t always find it necessary for them to be there.
Thank you for sharing your routine. I'll be homeschooling my two boys starting this year and it's helpful for me to hear how others "flow" their days. And it was so reassuring to hear that you also have to remind your boys to do their daily hygiene. I felt like I may be the only one having to do this EVERYDAY! It often feels like Ground Hog's Day in my house. :)
Yay! I am so happy to watch another video! Great tips! Tackling the hardest, most challenging stuff first is such a great strategy. There is a book out there called , Eat the Frog by Brian Tracy. It highlights this very idea of tackling the thing we dread the most first! I have done this with our homeschool. Revolutionary!! 😊
Hey Shandiin! I actually read that book almost two years ago and completely forgot about that until you mentioned it! I should definitely pull it out for a refresher! :)
Hi, from the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. I have just stumbled upon your channel & love it. We have just started homeschooling our 8 yro Son. Lots of adventures ahead 🙏🏻. keep the videos coming 😁
This is what I need to hear as I begin this journey. I am planning to start with Math as well with my eldest girls and maybe group work later. Thank you for the tips❤️🌼
Awe thank you! YES!! We moved in April and my dad has been with us since then due to some health issues. All should be back to "normal" soon and I plan to record! Any preferred topics of interest? ;)
@@mo_wilkinson wishing your dad good health! I just discovered your channel, then realized it’s been a bit since you last posted, but am so happy to hear that you’ll be back. Homeschool is a big interest for me, but I really enjoyed any of the videos you posted 😊
Thank you for being so “real”....as moms we struggle with the image the world thinks we should be and some moms began to live or project a “perfect mom” image. Thank you & God bless:-)
Oh my goodness. I’ve been thinking I’m going to have to reminder my 11-year-old daughter to do all those normal morning routine things for the rest of her life too 😂 Thanks for the recommendation to eat the frog first. I’m going to use your video for proof that it works if I get pushback on that one. 🙏
Homeschool TH-cam here 😍 new sub. I love seeing other people’s routines so I can stream line our routine even more 👍. I am not a morning person either Coke Zero every morning 😂😂. We are finishing a school room this year in our basement ☺️. We are doing the good and the beautiful this year for LA too.
Thank you for this video! I am just starting out and it helps!! I have a question though. Can you share your cards that you made to go over with them everyday? I am doing The Good and the Beautiful too so I will get their cards. You mentioned you were doing the president's in order but can you share the others? I think this is a great idea and want to do the same thing. Thank you in advance!♥️
I’m glad to hear you deal with the same problem with boys and their self grooming and dressing! I have 3 boys (11,9,8)... I kept thinking that I had failed to teach them to properly be self aware of those things since I still have to remind them daily. (My sister has 2 girls (5,8) and they have it down with no reminders)... must be a boy thing 😁
I think a big prereq to go the home schooling route is to have a home that's more than a 1000 sq ft. Just out of curiosity...which part of the country are you in?
We homeschooled for a year in our 400 sq ft camper while building our home and it worked well for us! I think if you set the tone for positivity and fun, you can school anywhere! We're in Louisiana :)
I have a super random question. I'm just really curious. Don't know when you got your tattoo but do you have any regrets about getting it? Do you wonder if you'll like it in twenty years or when you're like 70 or something? I've been trying to understand people's rationale for tattoos. They are like the most permanent thing you can do to your body. I change my mind about what clothes I like every few months, so I wonder if you have thought about how you might not like it in the future.
That’s a common question people get that have tattoos. I can only speak for myself, but yes, I did consider that and it didn’t affect my decision. I waited a little over nine years to get my sleeve (I wanted one at age 24) and figured if I still wanted it for almost a decade, then it was time to commit! I’ve never regretted it. All of my tattoos tell a story and are very personal to me. Not everyone chooses tattoos for that reason, but it’s mine personally. I love mine and will definitely get more. ☺️
New sub! Your channel is awesome, I'm so glad I found it! We are doing Life of Fred with my 1st grade boy and we're flying through them. Do you feel like it works well as a stand-alone math curriculum in the later years? Would love to hear your thoughts.
My oldest will be 14 next month and I still have to remind HER of hygiene habits daily 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ I tried leaving it up to her, but then she would smell to high Heaven
You will have to remind your boys to get up, brush their teeth, and yes, use deodorant until they have girlfriends who they want to keep. I have four boys and that is when they started not needed to be told. Note: It is also why men fall apart and are generally unkempt without a woman in there lives. (Mostly)

You cracked me up with the reminding the kids part! LOL. You are NOT alone!😂
The struggle is real! lol
Yeah I'm with you on constantly having to remind then to brush their teeth and hair.
The struggle!! Lol

So smart Julie!

Hi Christina! Yes, VERY similar! :)

This is our first year using it too and we're enjoying it!

I love how bright and sunny your classroom is.
Space Cat Thank you! ☺️
I love starting school with prayer.
That is so sweet 🥺 I will start doing this too.

Lisa Schwab haha glad you can relate! ☺️
New subie! I am a homeschool mom to:) Thanks for sharing!
Hi Shawna! So glad to have you here! :)

I have an 11 year old boy who does not care for math either. We do math first in the day also! It makes the day so much more pleasant. :)
Yes!! I completely agree ☺️

Thanks for watching!

Great share thanks
haha! I have 3 kids and I have to constantly remind them as well to make their beds, take showers, brush their teeth etc..
Thanks for sharing this! We are new to homeschooling this year so it helps me a lot to see other's routines and schedules! Just subscribed!
How exciting Julia! I'm sure you will love it :)
Maureen Wilkinson thank you! We are a few weeks in and so far I do love it!
My 6 yo daughter said, "mom that's you!" When you brought up reminding the kids. So funny! You aren't alone.
That's so funny!
I love that you start school with prayer. Goodness knows, we all could use a prayer when math starts bringing the tears.
Haha yes!! 🙌🏽
You are def not the only mom that has to remind them. Lol my kids are the same age and I constantly have to remind them.
Is there any chance you’ll be making anymore homeschool videos? You’re so upbeat and relatable!
Awe thank you! YES!! We moved in April and my dad has been with us since then due to some health issues. All should be back to "normal" soon and I plan to record! Any preferred topics of interest? ;)

Love your channel! Im diving into homeschooling, and all your videos have been so helpful!! Where did you get your chalk board?
Yes on the reminders 😒😩🤦🏻😂

How do you handle lazy pre teens? 😇 I just can’t get my big boys out of bed
I have an 8yo girl and I'm constantly having to remind her to do all that also!! 😂
And do you plan to homeschool through high school

RealHousewifeRachel Thank you! I believe you found my video on the full LOF review ;) so glad you enjoy!! ☺️
Yes, they will eventually care...until then you will remind them or their stench will remind you. Haha
It’s A Merry Life 🤣🤣
my 9yro girl also needs step by step instructions of what she needs to do or she doesn't do them.
I like the flow of your day. Do you guys fall off the wagon sometimes and just have blah days? We definitely do hehe
love this, are you on FB or IG?
Yes! @mo_wilkinson on IG ;)
I still have to tell my 11 (almost 12) year old girl to do ALL those things... 😔
Mine are about to be 3, 8, and 10. The only one I don't have to remind to brush teeth, get ready etc. is my 3 year old haha 😂
Great Vid!
HAHA!! Let's be honest...sometimes I have to even remind myself!
Make your son's a visual schedule. That will help
📽1
When they start getting into girls they will care about hygiene lol.
Haha! You're right!
My oldest will be 14 next month and I still have to remind HER of hygiene habits daily 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ I tried leaving it up to her, but then she would smell to high Heaven

I think we're going to have to remind our boys of good self hygiene until they're in their 20s...lol
Oh man, I think you’re right! 🤣
Let them stink and see what they do. Teeth? Uh uh. Must make them brush and floss.
Haha!!
