    ❤ Please note: this video is a response to the many questions I get about fat loss. This video is not intended to limit our concept of health to merely our body weight and body composition. Health is multi-dimensional; for some fat loss will be relevant, for others not. We are all unique so please be kind and considerate when sharing in the comments. Thank you for being here!
    With love,

      @@TheScienceofSelfCare Thank you! I am actually wondering if there is an ideal time to eat carbs in the day for women. The reason I ask is because I do cardio every night and it usually is after I have dinner. So I’m not sure if it is best to try and not to have carbs in my dinner and only do in the morning and for lunch, or if having carbs with dinner matters. My goal is fat loss but also not depriving my muscles.

    This was a fantastic interview, and I immediately went and subscribed to Nick's channel! I have a weird question, maybe you or anyone else might have an idea. I lost 130 lbs and the only weird thing that happened during that time was... my nose was CONSTANTLY running when I was doing any exercise. When I reached my goal weight, it completely stopped. I used to joke that it was the fat melting and dripping out of my nose lol!!! But seriously -- does this happen to other people? I don't have allergies, it happened at all seasons of the year (it took over a year to lose all 130 lbs), I never struggled with nasal problems or respiratory problems before or since. But it was to an extreme degree. And no one has ever had an explanation for me!!

    • @TheScienceofSelfCare
      @TheScienceofSelfCare  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      That is SO interesting! Thank you for sharing! I am definitely going to ask Nic about this. It’s these quirky observations that I just love to speculate about/ investigate. 🥰🥰🥰
      So my crazy idea off of the top of my head:
      the fact that it only happened during exercise sessions while losing a lot of weight makes me think that there were perhaps compounds stored in your body fat that were causing histamine release when the fat exited your fat cells and was being used as fuel during your workouts. Our fat can store all sorts of things including some irritating compounds/toxins. (Check out this paper: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6101675/)
      To summarize: our fat stores can be a reservoir for irritating compounds and when they’re release during rapid weight loss, we can produce histamines in response, which can cause a runny nose.
      That’s my crazy idea but let me ask Nic! :)

    • @mockingbirdnightingale7169
      @mockingbirdnightingale7169 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@TheScienceofSelfCare That sounds like a reasonable explanation honestly. I was living in a pretty big calorie deficit so it's not like my body had a lot of food energy to play with. I was probably actually having to metabolize body fat in real time to get through my long day hikes. And even though it was just walking it probably was zone 2 largely. Now I'm a runner and I know all about zones and it is rare for me to even get into zone 1 while walking but back then I was really working hard to get up a small hill. So yeah for reference the exercise I was doing at the time was almost exclusively hill walking / day hiking but it was challenging for me. Especially when I was having to blow my nose on leaves or whatever i could find 😆😆😆

    nice to have NON TRIBALISM in a conversation and someone who isn't 'patch protecting' the 'cult' of which diet is the 'right' one eveyrone should be on. I started calorie counting and NUTS are so high in calories I've given them up. My weight didn't budge on a calorie controlled diet that was meant to be my ideal weight intake level, so I have to go lower - but then I don't feel I have energy to exercise! so I've resigned myself to just being strong and fit instead and maybe being a bit overweight. I'm very healthy regardless.

    What if your insulin never goes down?
    I have a flat blood sugar curve with high insulin and high insulin sensitivity, leading to blood sugar never rises more then 20-30 points after meals or glucose tolerance test. I do get frequent hypoglycemia (every day fasting, and post meal 30-45 minutes). No caloric deficit seems to result in fat loss, instead it seems of releasing of fat resources is majority immediately recovered by insulin. At one point i was at 800 calories (food photographed and weighed to get professionals to stop assuming im miscounting) and gaining weight. Im 5'11". I had no energy, kept falling asleep, HR dropping to 40s, and lost majority of gastric and intestinal motility (making it difficult to eat because there was no where for food to go.)
    100% genetics family on one side struggles with fasting & post meal hypoglycemia. Notably none on that side has ever had diabetes or been told they were pre diabetic.
    I can only use exercise to lose fat. 😅

    While I don’t doubt the effect increased protein has on insulin and weight loss, that’s difficult for people to do with hypercholesterolemia. My cholesterol levels are very sensitive to saturated fat consumption. My LDL levels are twice as high as what’s considered high when eating meat only once a day! I’ve found more success in weight loss and feel better with less meat, but perhaps that’s just how my body is built. I really think people have different dietary requirements with varying tolerances on the spectrum. Experiment with what works best for you.

    I'm only in the middle of this video ( talking about different types of fat) but just b4 this they were talking about genetics.
    I don't know if this gets covered later, but on another video, I heard that genetics plays a big part on how fat is stored and these differences are very important.
    Like women store fat evenly throughout their body and men store fat in their mid section and middle internal body parts which makes it very dangerous for men.
    Also different ethnic groups store fat more readily in and around the middle stomach organs.
    Asians/India people from that area store fat in the mid section easier than their Caucasian counter part in elderly men.
    I don't know the demographics of this channel but I thought some people would want to know. ✌️

    While all foods will increase insulin, carbohydrates spike higher and take longer to come down. Couple that with the fact that carbohydrates are sugar and do not satiate the body so you will be eating more throughout the day. Most Americans are eating a ton of carbie junk food which also contains fat. This is why we have an obesity epidemic in this Nation. Type II diabetes is at an all time high and cancers are spiking. I am on a predominantly meat based diet. I started it after having a hemorrhagic stroke in 2016. Ketogenic diets treat brain injuries. At 60 I have been on every diet known to mankind. Cutting out carbs has been the best thing for my health. I would ask that you interview Dr. Ben Bickman. He is a scientist that studies fat and its effects on the body. I don’t count anything and eat more than ever. Your body does not need carbs for anything. There are no essential carbs. Essential fatty acids, yes. No essential carbs
