I would be interested in her take on hormone replacement therapy for women. I’m 67 and did not realize the role that estrogen plays in heart disease, osteoporosis, cognitive decline, etc. until I went through menopause. Now supposedly I’m too old to take it. Great interview, thank you!
@@d.wilbur5164 supposedly the risk for complications is higher if HRT is started more than 10 years after menopause symptoms start, so different doctors may be more or less cautious than others in recommending it
You're not too old--doctors don't have the education; it's really hard to find one that doesn't see HRT as just a "value added" product and only know what Google (the advanced form of "chinese telephone") tells them.
That's a really interesting/scary point of extending lifespan but also increasing the bad health span, that's pretty much what we already do today. That said I know and love a number of people that suffer from serious chronic health problems and their quality of life is still certainly worth living. Not sure they'd feel that was for another 100 years but maybe.
Yes! I really appreciate her practical focus on extending healthspan, over just lifespan. I personally have little desire to live to 150 if many of those years would be in compromised health. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 🧡
A swirling caldron of information. I will have to see this more than once. I am no sort of TH-cam premium customer so they interrupt your interview every 5 minutes to sell nonsense. They don't do this to music videos. I think they've figured out it's a bad idea to interrupt Christopher Hitchens when he's on a riff. They should give this the same consideration. Also loved the kitty @ 46:12. Thank you.
Haha thank you 🧙♀️Hopefully the timestamps in the description box can make this swirling caldron a little more digestible? ✨still working on how to structure these videos! And interesting point about the ads.. I wish I had Christopher Hitchen’s voice! x
Totally agree with not taking unnecessary supplements. I have b5 toxicity and it’s the worst thing. Lots of neurological problems all from a vitamin that’s everywhere.
Thank you for sharing! Though I don’t shy away from medicine altogether, this cautious approach is one I have adopted more in my own life after an oral contraceptive gave me a life threatening blood clot at the age of 19! Luckily I was able to catch it in time. Conversations like this remind me that our bodies are a delicate web of so many biochemical interactions we barely understand. xo
This was great , thank you! Given how important ovaries are, I was wondering if she had any advice for how we can support the health of our ovaries at different life phases. Ie, if ovarian function is problematic (irregular periods, infertility, exaggerated menopausal symptoms), what can we do to support the ovaries? Diet and exercise is what I have gathered would be her advice. But what about birth control pills? They don't allow you to ovulate. Is this good or bad? What about egg donation, is that harmful to ovarian health? What about fertility treatments like clomid, good or bad? Are there any specific foods or supplements that can support ovarian health?
Thank you so much! I have done a lot of experimenting with ashwagandha in the past. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work for my body because I am sensitive to some nightshades. When I take ashwagandha for extended periods, it wreaks havoc on my digestive system. But I think it can be really helpful for others who do not experience this sensitivity!! Do your take ashwagandha yourself? *I will consider an ABX test of something else though. :) X Robin
I’m super curious what her data has shown concerning taking supplements. Also curious to know what she personally enjoys doing to perform self care. Great interview!
I’d be curious about this as well! I personally have a few supplements that I take and love and notice a difference with. But I try to be incredibly selective. Her comment here has made me reflect :) thanks for sharing!
Hi Robin: Please take a look at what the 7-day Adventists, as they are the longest lived group in the USA. The largest group lives near you in Loma Linda California. Here is Dr Lin Liu, an MD there talking about their Diet.... Great interview ! Thanks James
Thank you, very interesting video! It's fascinating how many things we still don't know. I'm wondering if research is done on families that are known to live to very old age? I'd normally assume it would be down to genetics/DNA, but that could also mean their bioactive peptides are optimal vs. someone with other genes? And if so, rather than a pill/drug, maybe the beneficial effect could be turned on with something like CRISPR?
I'm far more concerned with healthspan than lifespan. I do think they go together, if you focus on health first. I want the shortest end-of-lifespan possible, whenever it comes. Allulose is a natural sugar that increases GLP-1. I think inulin may also have a mild effect.
I started following your channel from the video about eating broccoli sprouts. I was impressed and would like to know if you could share what changes you have noticed from consuming them consistently over a long period, both in terms of health and youthful skin.
SO much time talking about yourself. SO much time talking around your subject. I'm getting old trying to wade through it. Ok bioactive peptides, maybe from the from the hypothalamus, are doing something... Vasopressin, oxytocin are maybe involved.... female reproductive system is involved.... ovaries are signal centers, produce peptides? aging seen as a pandemic.... promotion for more research.... there are lots of kinds of dogs.... rather extend health than lifespan.... diet & exercise are best regulators we've got.... supplements can hinder....
Thanks for sharing your honest feedback! I’m still figuring out how to structure these videos. I’ll take your thoughts into account for the future. :) x Robin
also.... can't take seriously correlations without evidence of causation. Does exercise make people healthy, or do healthy people just enjoy exercise more? We may never know this as we can't break the feedback loop.... so, we don't know. This changes my perspective on people like this guest who claim that we do. You might as well blame social networks as correlation is about the same. I know, maybe it's not your place as interviewer to edit your guests.. pet peeve of mine.

Who said you're too old to start HRT? Please check with another GYN if your current dr said this. You're never too old.

@@d.wilbur5164you can indeed be older than recommended for HRT treatment of menopause! After 60 the risks far outweigh the benefits.
Very interesting interview!
Thank you for bringing the newest honest information on human health ❤
This is very useful and interesting. I hope they get a huge grant and can research more important things on women's bodies and aging 🎉❤

Thank you so much for this interview! Dr. Garrison has been my hero for a couple of years already
So cool to hear! Out of curiosity: how did you first discover Dr. Garrison and her work?

I would love to know what her diet consists of and does she have an exercise regimen that she does on a scheduled basis?
I would also add, don't take medication unless you really need it. Maybe there is a lifestyle intervention that can replace that medication
Thank you for sharing!
