I'm mostly watching this for the heck of it, but I definitely have 0 passion for where I'm at now. So one day, either when my mortgage is paid off, or do start my own business. The mortgage is all I have left to pay off 😊

I lost my job two months ago and started helping a friend with her business. That led to new skills that I didn't know I'd enjoy so much. Like you said, you become obsessed with it. I wake up excited to improve these skills and get working on them. I'm always thinking about how I can get better too.
I do have a little income and my husband works so this is the perfect time to grow my own freelance business. I am continuing to pay off debt, even if its just a little bit at a time.
I'm also helping another friend with her non-profit business, and with the same skills.
I've enrolled in an amazing online course that will help me grow and keep me accountable as well.
I know my situation isn't ideal but sometimes things happen unexpectedly, then life gives you new opportunities.
I love the advice you give Sorelle. ❤

I’m about to quit my job and put in my 2 weeks this coming Monday. I hate my job and am so excited to take a 3 month break, travel, have free time to really discover what I’m passionate about and purpose is. I’m not sure what will happen after 3 months, if I’ll work at a different company or try to work for myself. But I know everything is rigged in my favor and what is meant to be is already mine.

Sorelle, I don’t know how, but I keep feeling you can read my mind and bring out the video I need now. I was thinking of leaving my job, because I’m not happy and want to focus on my filmmaking, but it’s not sustainable and me and my mum would struggle. This gave me the motivation to keep going and focus on my filmmaking until I get to a stage where I can support myself and my mum. Thank you. Really, a massive thank you. This was the kick up the bum knocking sense into me I needed. X

I finished my full time job just 4 days ago and have (in the last 4 days) earned 3 times my usual salary. But I followed lots of your advice. I built a buffer, I worked nights and weekends for 2 years to build clients, I treated my full time job as a university course and used it to build my skills ( I absorbed everything I could and made the most of their training offers) - then I made the jump. So far, I have amazed myself and feel so full of pride. I am tired, but its working. I was also very careful not to burn bridges and that has already paid off in the form of being hired back by my employer to work in a freelance capacity. Just 4 days...

You mentioned that life is a series of sprints and at times you have to work overtime (opportunities presenting, things aligning). It would be interesting to hear what exactly do you sacrifice during these sprints? Also, what would you never ever sacrifice? And if you sacrifice some of the things for a while, then how are you still able to stay productive?

I remember when my father started his business and he kept telling me to do so too after I graduated, I didn't want to hear it. 8 years post graduation, I'm not working in the field that I studied in (long story there) and I've been working at a company that I'm disliking more and more every day.
This year I was able to invest (small investment) in my business, and I'm doing it on the side (3-5 hours after my 6-3 job), it's still on the ground, because I have a looonggg way to go, but the idea of quitting to start something that I don't even know will work is something I never considered, and I can't save up enough money to able to take care of basic expenses and invest in my business, so I am doing it slowly but surely while keeping my current job.

      Intriguing to read this, now.
I was talking about this, earlier this morning, regarding tired healthcare workers, from both the professional’s and patient’s side of things; with my dear friend, whom I met when I had surgery, to solve 8yrs. of being bedridden/housebound, last year - as she was my CNA.
      She works nights AND weekends.
She’s been immensely depressed, both personally and professionally.
I encouraged her, to begin making TH-cam videos.
      Which, she has been.
It’s her birthday, in a few days. She shared with me, her father bought her a laptop and she FINALLY got internet - so she can begin focusing more, on making her videos.
This way, also, she’ll be able to develop a stable income - for when she moves to be with her partner, whom lives in India.
      I’m really excited, for her.

    • @XOChristianaNicole
      @XOChristianaNicole 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Here’s a an idea, I offered my friend, in the healthcare field..
As One whom has had many endearing experiences, with professionals, during my own trials and tribulations - I’ve learned a lot, about life, human connections, empathy, and compassion.
Perhaps, if you’re an artist, of some kind..
You could film yourself creating your art, while doing a voice over, of you doing story times, regarding your experiences and perspectives, worming in the healthcare field.
I’m sure you have a valuable perspective, people would love to hear.
That way, you can do what you love - while utilizing your past skills, also.
Hell, even if it’s, simply, filming you making those bracelets.
I pray you found this supportive.
      Wising you, all the best.

Great video. I recently started a pretty good full-time job AND my passion project at around the same time, and it's been such a cognitive dissonance to do both - I feel like I'm pulled in 2 opposing directions - the day job gives me security & stability, but the project has potential massive upside, and makes me feel way more fulfilled than I've ever been. Head over heart, heart over head, weighing the trade-offs daily is taking its toll!

Thanks for making a video about this, it's very timely! You can't imagine how inspiring your videos are! What I love most about your approach is the philosophy of full responsibility for your own life. I have quit my job multiple times in my life to pursue my own projects (making feature films, moving overseas, starting a youtube channel). But I learned new skills each time and retained my ability to get a new job in a matter of weeks or months. Having a fat emergency fund stash definitely helped (and I wouldn't do it without one!)! It was difficult each time, but I don't regret it. I believe that quitting and starting is a valuable skill on its own, the skill of being flexible and adapting quickly. I quit my real job in 2018. I didn't have a plan at the time but needed a change due to workplace and personal stresses. I had a bit of rental income coming in and enough revenue from small side-jobs to keep me afloat - I did things like freelance computer service, copy/printing for a couple local businesses and used my truck/trailer for moving and small property maintenance jobs. I wasn't making much but felt better managing my own time instead of structuring my life around an employer's hours.
I was soon making enough income to live a basic comfortable life, while keeping lots of free time for myself to explore new hobbies and consider new career options. This year (2021) I started a small business doing property maintenance. Now I have a comfortable income from my own business and I am learning about investing and managing my money wisely

All I have to say is that THIS is the video that I need right now. In last couple of months, there is idea that is growing inside me and I want to bring it out, but I don't know how and how much time and resources I need to make my idea to be full time job. I don't want to leave my current job, but I want to start, beside my job, a new thing and see if I will make it in few years. I don't wanna bring myself to the point where I will be waiting for perfect opportunity and miss all of that. You explained everything that need to be explained and show people that they don't need to jump straight in something right away, it needs time to sort things out and with some kind of planning it should be fine. Your videos are not bombastic and clickbait. You are like, down to earth person which could we all meet in like, everyday situations and places, with experience behind you and to show us all that you went thru all of the problems and hard stuff so we can learn and see how to recognize them, how to react and how to fight problems because it's not easy road. Now, at start of my road, this is the video which gives me that little push that I really need to start something that I love, to seek out new opportunities, to find myself and to show myself that I can do it. And make it. Thank you!

I own my business. I left a decent job in a fit of pride, not wanting to be fired by a person I didn’t respect. I had no plan and I have a family to support. It’s incredibly scary and I’ve had to take a couple of part time jobs. I’ve had work stolen from me, I’ve sold my stuff to pay rent (last month). And, I fail constantly. Daily. I would not recommend this to anyone. However, as crazy as it seems I don’t know that I can ever surrender and go back to a 9 to 5. I might have to for a short time at some point to feed my family but I know now that it’s possible to work for myself so I’ll not be satisfied with anything less.

Hey, I am a freelance photographer/graphic designer who signed a 1-year 9-5 contract a few months ago. I kept thinking that I need a "proper" job, although my freelance earnings were at a decent level. I just realised what I am doing - I am now into a 1-year sprint, as I do both - my full-time job and my freelance and getting a double income. Yes, I wake up at 6am and work during weekends, but I am looking forward to the end of my contract: I will get out of it with new skills, savings and a strong motivation to push my business to a new level to have more freedom and free time. Looking forward to the start of the course in a week!

I was doing the hustle hard method for a long time and after experiencing massive burnout (Nov 2020 - Feb 2021) and becoming so unwell that i couldn't attend my full-time work or work on my part-time business i knew i had to make some changes. In March 2021 i left my full-time job and switched to part-time hours, i sold almost everything i had and moved into a self-contained van to minimise my largest expense, rent. I now work part-time for an amazing local charity with a lot of flexibility to manage my own time and can work digitally for the most part allowing me the freedom to build my own business while still making sure i have some steady income to live off.
Really enjoying this channel to be reassured that i am not alone in my desire for freedom and autonomy. Thank you for sharing your tips Sorelle ✌🏽

Good one Sorelle. Zero funds in this world certainly has a lot of resistance. It functions as a trap owing to our alienation from Nature. Wildcraft is one way out. To learn to live without money is a great skill. The social contract supporting money is ephemeral. One twist in the code and we're all broke, unless land metal and Wildcraft are in place and solid. All the same, I have desires, work to accomplish before I'm done. I value your wisdom in navigating the unreal money made real by our belief in it, plus all the authoritarian clamps that blind us to our bodies, communties, and our world. The machine is so violent cause it's out of touch with heart and belly sense, has no Wildcraft. It's based on the belief that humans are separate from Nature. Yeah, right.

I quit my job at the beginning of the year to focus on my trading business and nothing went to plan! It's been a challenging year and I've had to live off of my assets, I'm quite lucky to have had a supportive partner and free rent though. I've learnt so much and as hard as it has been I still prefer it over having a job but that stress of paying bills and basics definitely can be debilitating and I've ended up with gut issues from the stress. It definitely does affect your creativity and makes you feel a sense of urgency in achieving your goals which can lead to reckless decisions at times. Anyone considering it should definitely make sure they have enough money coming in to at least cover their basic necessities without any issues.

What I found quickly is that these bills don't care about my dreams lol I still plan to work on my business, but I want to do it smarter next time. Like you mentioned I want to have the security until my business is making enough consistently because not having that money made me desperate, which killed all my drive to create.

I hate my job and the rotating shifts, so yeah, I've been considering quitting it for quite a while. I am actually tired of feeling miserable just to pay the bills. But I also have to be realistic. Considering my stuttering and my hearing incapacity (80%), I'm certain it'll be even harder than normal to be self-employed. My dream and my goal is to become a writer, to write inspiring and motivational stories and poetry with a twist...
That being said, it's always good to watch your videos and to learn from you. You're an inspiration and a motivation to many.
    Wish you all the best!

It was Marco Pierre White that snapped me back to reality when he said "well most of us don't have that luxury" I think he was responding to a cook that didn't work for a year because wanted to "find his passion" or something. Look for the circumstances you want, don't look for an "escape."

I am a business owner. Before I was a consultant but I burned out to the point I couldn’t talk or get up from bed or take a walk or even eat normally. I knew it was about to happen so I saved up during the whole time I worked. I’ve lived on that saving buffer for two years and now I’m slowly building an income from my passion. But I cannot work normal hours and probably never should if I want to keep being able to eat and walk. That’s why I want to find ways to work on my passion and selling in a way that I can choose my hours and not work 8 hour days. I know it means I won’t make as much or can fully sprint but it’s the only way for me. That’s why knowing finances and how to sell is so important to me. Thanks Sorelle!
